OK so leave phone unconnected then load file in odin. Let it do its checks. Connect you phone and wait for roughly 5secs and then it should flash.
Good Luck
Thanks.. I tried that but it didn't work.. any other suggestions? Thanks.. really appreciate your expertise

OK are you in odin mode by powering down and then holding-power,home, volume down and then volume up?
If so try a few times, first time with the above instructions doesn't always work (in my experience) but usually repeating on the second or third will result in success.
Good Luck
Please keep in mind that flashing a wrong firmware can end badly. Especially using a wrong Bootloader csn result in a paperweight. And Odin flashables include a bootloader.
I don't know what the result will be if the phone is just a different variant, but you should always be careful with that. What you are doing might not be free of risks, thats what I mean.
I wouldn't recommend doing what you are doing. Odin failing is usually a bad sign.

Hi and thanks for this. I did try a few more times but with the same result. Any suggestions? The phone in its current format really doesn't work at all well for me...
You could also try a different USB cable or a different USB port.
Have you installed the Samsung drivers for your device?
Trying to switch variants sounds pretty risky to me. perhaps it's a blessing that you've not yet been successful.
It might be cheaper/better for you to sell your current phone and get a 925F on eBay?

I connected it to KIES and it wont reconize it so I tried ODIN, donwloaded the original IS firmware, run it and it gaves my an error message. I run again nothing happen and turn it off... then when I turn the phone again I get Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select Recovery mode in KIES & try again. I do connect it to Kies but still it wont reconize it, I tried everyhting with odin but nothing yet... I only get FAIL!

well, okay first of all.. i think your phone is ROOTED that's why you cannot receive any firmware updates and you cannot connect to Kies.
so what you need to do is to download a firmware over at sammobile.com and then unzip the file, you will then get a .tar file.. you then use odin. connect your phone while it is on download mode and check if odin recognizes your phone. in PDA, click on the .tar that you had from the extraction then click on start.
your flash via odin may be a result from an incomplete download.
cheers

Hey Guys thanks for the reply... I am not sure what firmware to donwload... I am located in latin america Costa Rica, Carrier ICE... I just need an unlocked phone. I am able to get in to Download. And I also try to download the original stock firmware but when I put it in PDA I get an FAIL. I am not sure if its the correct firmware... can Someone please help me with that I really appreciate all of the help! Really!
Also when I go to Kievs and type update the firwmare I put the serial number and the model and I accept the agreement and then I get a pop message, saying something in Japan or chinese I dont know what it says but I soon as I click ok... it closes the update
Bump!
On connecting your phone to KIES, does it install the phone drivers?
Also, ensure you're installing a firmware for your own device. ie. not installing i9100G firmware on an international i9100 /P/M/T. or vice versa.
Next make sure your phone has adequate charge before going into download mode. Even if its soft-bricked, it will still charge.
Also, connect your phone to a USB port directly on the computer. Not via a hub or a USB port on your keyboard or something.

If u want to use Odin than uninstall kies is a must as its tsr program will interrupt Odin processes. U just need to download correct & match firmware from samsung-updates.com or sammobile.com, then repeat the flashing but just use Odin v1.85 as its most compatible w/ s2. Don't tick anything else from Odin before click start button except auto reboot, one packages & PDA section (browse ur firmware file). & Odin doesn't care if ur phone rooted or unrooted. It will does a full wipe if u flash a f/w by Odin, so rooted phone will lost its root.

Help please
Also I have the international version of the s2 if that makes any difference.
It's probably something really obvious/simple that's not happening here. Com port issue says it's an issue with the USB ports on the PC you're using. I suggest you find one of the many 'Odin won't work' threads we have on here every week; there's a set of troubleshooting steps you need to try, I suggest you find that list of steps & keep trying them.

I actually found another cable and tried it earlier. Surprisingly, Odin worked...sort of, it moved further ahead of the steps. Though I couldn't recall what it said, and after that one time where it got further ahead in Odin. The process has actually been stuck at Setup Connection .
WOOHOO
After a 6 hour battle. I finally got this stubborn computer and phone to work together. It turns out that in order for it to work was to do the following:
1. Rebooting the phone back into download mode
2. Plug it into a fresh port/fresh computer
3. Open Odin
4. Plug in your phone.
5. Watch the magic happen before your eyes (My actual installation only took 2:49)
The stock rom has been completely installed. Now I'm just waiting for the samsung logo to disappear and finally turn on. I hope this doesn't get stuck as well....
After going into recovery mode and wiping out all of my data. I was able to turn on my phone completely after only 30 seconds of loading. Thanks for reading and I hope these tips will help someone in the future who was in the same position as I was.
Hello everyone,
I know this is not a new question/topic but I've searced too much and couldn't find the working solution.. ): There are too much posts too much answers over google and i tried most of them but they didn't work for me.. I just need simple and short anwers like all of you. Thanks!
I am using Cyanogenmod 10.2-20131102-SNAPSHOT-M1-i9300 on my SGS3 I9300 (intl) and my device had about 500 mb free space. I was on facebook and suddenly my phone restarted and freezed at the samsung boot logo.. ): I can't reach recovery mod.. TWRP boot screen is freezing.. I can only reach download mode.
I have searched on google a lot of forums. I tried to turn back stock rom with odin on different versions but it always gave failed answers. I also tried recover with kies and another kies installed computer but it didn't create any solution..
I tried soft reset, hard reset, "pit" things but they didn't help me..
I tried "GT-I9300XXUGMJ9_KOR_FACTORY" and odin said "Re-Partition operation failed."

You won't get any solution/answer by yourself. its an SDS and no other options else than taking it to service center..

Thank you for reply. Do you know is it (SDS) in warranty or not? Because I saw that clean/stock/unrooted devices had the same problem..
SDS is covered by warranty .
But warranty is void with root and custom roms or indicators of such .
Likewise warranty is not worldwide so it looks like you buy a new motherboard or pay for a service repair .
Its all in the faqs and guides .
Hi Guys, I've been going through these forums for days and have tried so many things, but I still can't un-brick this phone, I'm pretty sure its a soft brick, because I can still get into download mode, but if I try to start the phone normally, I just get a white screen now when I enter download mode, it says "downloading do not turn off target" now when I plug it into the pc, odin sees it ok, but I have tried uploading new stock firmware, its my friends phone, and as far as I know its not rooted, now when I tried flashing a new stock firmware, it failed becase of something to do with the partition, so I read through these forums and found a thread about uploading a new pit file, which I did, and that failed as well, so I need hepl please guys, how screwed is this phone?? its an international Galaxy S3 i9300 on O2
first of all, how did u brick it lol

Go try the rescue firmware (search in general forum) but probable that the emmc is corrupt/damaged. If the rescue firmware won't flash then you'll need a new motherboard.

right, Blackstard, its my friends phone, and something happened while it was doing a firmware update, not sure what, eith got turned off just got stuck I think, she was probably to impatient to let it finish
Mrao, GT-I9300_mx_20120329 pit file and I9300XXUGND3_I9300H3GGND1_I9300NEUGND1_HOME.tar from sam mobile pit file was from in here I think
Right Boomboomer, I have tried the recovery firmwares, there were two of them and I tried them both, but it just fails at the pit file and says it cant format the partition, is this the end? or is there anything else I can try?
This is what comes up in Odin

Sounds like the emmc chip is damaged.
If you can get a z3x box there is a thread which describes how to resurrect a corrupt chip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/epairsamsung-s3-i9300-note2-n7100-dead-t2647558
But even that won't help a dead emmc chip.
Hi everyone,
My head is spinning from what's just happened. My phone mysteriously decided to crash on me after being a little slow and unresponsive recently. I'm running CM11 M5 on my phone, I found this is the most stable of the roms for me. The unusual thing about this crash was that it rebooted with a fuzzy, static-like screen, so I tried to reboot into the Cyanogen bootloader thingy and it just brings up the crash screen. I tried to reboot into Odin Mode, hooked up the phone to my computer and tried to reinstall a new ROM. First I tried with Odin 3.07 with a ROM I loaded onto it last month (I9300XXUGNA5_I9300AUTGNA1_I9300XXUGMK6_HOME.tar.md5), but the Odin program on the computer crashes each time. I also tried with an updated version of Odin, v1.85 and also Odin Auto. I had an issue last month, looked around and fixed it by downloading this ROM just mentioned, but this time, no joy. I've tried with another that I just downloaded (root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.tar.md5) and the same thing happens. At one point, I received a message on different attempts where the Odin program would spit back at me this:

So, how do I proceed from this point? I don't know enough to understand what the problem is with this, maybe something to do with the PIT mapping? I feel like I've covered every possible avenue that I can see posted online, I'm really not sure if there is anyone else with this problem, where the Odin program is so volatile. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, I suffer without my phone.

<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..

Try the above rescue firmware as suggested above make sure you know what you are doing before flashing.. Exactly same advice if that doesn't work service required partition corrupt..Also I noticed the op above also flashed wrong root file for I9300 which didn't help.

Hardware issue, either damaged or corrupt emmc chip.

Yeah, that was a desperate attempt at trying another root file which was recommended in another post. I initially used:
I9300XXUGNA5_I9300AUTGNA1_I9300XXUGMK6_HOME.tar.md5
and this worked fine last month, but now I'm back to square one again. Any ideas on other PIT files or root files I can download which might do the trick?
Thanks for your comments so far, you're all a bunch of wizards...
