1st you must update your firmware: try OTA-update or, if it fails, download your newest firmware from sammobile.com and flash it with Odin. Control, whether IMEI is correct and you can make calls.
2nd root with CF-autoroot. Install TWRP-recovery.
3rd install any custom ROM.

Hi all,
I have a rooted (through Odin desktop version) Galaxy S3 I9300 with the following:
AP: I9300XXBLH1
CP: I9300CELH1
CSC: I9300PHNBLH1
I have been trying to flash the Jellybean OTA firmware that was posted yesterday on:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867672
However when I try to flash with CWM it breaks off.
When I try this with Odin Mobile Pro I get:
"The kernel image on your device does not match the signature check in OTA ZIP. Disable the check (may prevent the device from booting)?"
I guess I have to update the kernel image somehow in order to install this OTA as was also mentioned in the thread with the Jellybean firmware:
http://samsung-updates.com/fw/Samsung-Updates.com-GT-I9300_BTU_1_20120806161432_al03it6wa2.zip
However it's impossible to download this file, have tried with 4 different browsers on 2 desktops and 2 browsers on my phone but no luck (I get dummy zip file, referred back to the same page or html file download).
Any tips on how to update the base/kernel rom so I can safely install the Jellybean OTA?
Thanks,
Vincent

Hi,
I just tried to flash XXBLG8 with CWM (source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799267) but when doing *#1234# I get exactly the same versions as before:

CP: I9300CELH1
CSC: I9300PHNBLH1
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Cheers,

Correct, but I tried to install the full rom directly and it failed (see my first post of the thread), so I figured I had to upgrade the kernel and modem first..
I have the feeling I am missing an obvious step here, :silly:

Step 1 - flash CF kernel which is appropriate to ur baseband with Odin
Step 2- Flash cutom rom what ever u want
Step 3 - Flash Gapps..
Thats all :good:
You can flash CWM and then the custom ROM now itself, without upgrading to ICS. Just make sure you flash the correct rooted kernel for your baseband version. Don't directly flash any CWM or use ROM manager. Good luck!

My details
Baseband version - I9100BUKI1
Kernal Version - 2.6.35.7-I9100BUKJ3-CL647431 [email protected]#2
Build number - GINGERBREAD.BUKJ3
So can anyone give me correct CWM recovery to my S2 ? (I just want to flash kitkat rom.. )
And you can't search for this why exactly ? You've been here more than long enough to know how things work.
Flash Gustavo's kernel first and then follow instructions on the omni thread for flashing as a first time user.
Search around and you will find everything here itself.
I'd suggest flashing the latest stock rom via Odin, ms1 I believe. Then flash philz kernel. Then boot into recovery, (while your new rom cwm zips are on your SD card) format system, preload, data and cache. Then flash the omni rom zip, and the correct gapps, and any other mods you would like.

Hi Guys,
I've just put in a new motherboard as my old one eventually died and it's current details are:
Model: GT-i9100
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband: I9100XXLPH
Build Number: IML74K.XXLPH
There is an update available which I assume is an update for JellyBean 4.1.
How/What is the best route to get this phone from it's current ROM to CM12.1?
Am I correct in thinking I should update it to Jellybean 4.1 then flash a pit file (I91001GB_6GB.pit) with CWM (CWM-KitKatCompatible-i9100.zip) and then just wipe the storage & install CM12.1 via CWM?

BE CAREFUL!!! 4.0.3 IS AFFECTED BY BRICK BUG!!!
If you want to avoid this bug then flash cm12.1 follow this steps in line
1. Flash any 4.1.2 stock rom via odin (you possibility hard BRICK device if you skip this step)
__________________________________________
Follow abc steps if you want to re-partition your device
If you done this steps you can skip 2 and 3
1a. Tick re-partition box in odin and pick your favorite pit file
1b. Put your KitKat kernel in pda section
1c. Press start.. Btw you should start praying too. Re-partitioning is a risky operation.
1d. Wait for recovery and skip to 4th step
_______________________________________
2. Flash any cwm/twrp supported kernel for your stock rom via odin or 3e recovery. (Ex: Apolo 14.15b)
3. Flash any KitKat supported kernel via your recovery (Ex: Apolo 7.3)
4. Flash cm12.1 and gapps
And you're done!
First boot takes up to 15 minutes you have to wait

What is step 2 and 3 for... surely the partitioning will have already done this via CWM-KitKatCompatible-i9100.zip that I got from http://galaxys2root.com/cwmtwrp-recovery/.
Can I not just:
1) Upgrade OTA (to 4.1.2)
2) Flash a PIT file via Odin with CWM-KitKatCompatible i9100.zip as the recovery.
3) Flash CM12.1
4) Flash GApps

I don't trust ota. Because I never updated stock rom via ota since my galaxy ace days But I highly recommend odin way.
Steps 2-3-4 is OK. You can do this way
Don't forget to full wipe before you flash cm12.1

It doesn't matter upgrading Baseband from one to another? XXLPH is my current one.
Could I install the following:
