Just curious as to what other folks are getting for actual screen on battery time, as in, what do you think you would get in constant screen on usage?
I don't suffer from really bad battery drain, I think I could get a couple of days of light use from it.... but it does fair chomp the battery in use.
I reckon I could completely drain the battery in 3 - 4 hours of constant use of say web browsing, the odd game, texting etc, and am just wondering how that measures up with others; with talk of this device having iphone 4 levels of battery life, my last daily driver was said iphone, and that device managed about 50% longer screen on time, so it doesn't quite match that, but some are saying theirs is better?
I don't have the brightness cranked or anything, and I'm not exactly unhappy, but it probably matches my Incredible S for battery life, and both phones are perhaps slightly better than the Nexus One or Desire, which I didn't think were amazing in that department...

Speaking of battery life while browsing,
http://blog.gsmarena.com/showdown-s...ng-battery-life-championship-not-so-brightly/
Keep in mind the screen is a great deal larger than the iphone 4.
3h of intranet browsing is max for me

I also got about 3-4 hours with brightness set to 20%. I originally wonder if it's my problem only, as most of you say the battery can easily last for more than 1 day.
In my case, most of the battery is used by the display, given I used each about 1.5 hour before and after work during travel (with display turned on). So 3 hours of display on + some phone call and sms, that will drain the whole battery for me within one day. I think I need to buy a 2nd battery when it is available in Hong Kong.

Yeah same here. Display takes almost 50%. I have automatic brightness set on. I could of course set it to minimum brightness and it would decrese the battery consumption but I think it is ridiculous that I first buy a phone which is praised for its bright display and then I turn it to the darkest. Completely stupid. I tried that quickly and even my old Desire looked better then.
But then I read results like this:

And I just keep wondering that wtf is wrong with my phone.

Exactly. I want my phone can have this battery life too.
Same juice hungry Screen here. :-( I never use automatic brightness either. It's set to a really low brightness, byt it's still chewing away on the battery like there's no tomorrow.

To shorthand it for everyone, the SGS2 came in fourth out of four when using web scripts until the battery dies utilizing the stock browser. Results are:
Web browsing battery life test:
Apple iPhone 4 – 7:40 h
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc – 5:25 h
Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II – 4:59 h (Opera Mobile browser)
LG Optimus Black – 4:30 h
Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II – 4:22 h (stock browser)
Samsung I9000 Galaxy S – 4:06 h
So since the SGS sucked more, I guess it's the Amoled screen doing them in. They should have used black web pages and the SGS2 would have won.
Actually, if you think about it, the SGS2 is pushing more pixels and has a dual-core processor with hardware acceleration to feed. So at least beating the SGS shows some progress.
Thanks for the comments guys. Good to know it's not just me. It'd be nice to get the same as the arc... So maybe there is room for improvement, but all those who say it can match the iphone are living in dreamland! Saying that, I'll still take the bigger screen, ta! However, certainly reviews like techradars are a little misleading imo.

It'll be interesting to see how the iPhone 5 performs with a bigger screen and dual core processors. At least we don't have to send our phones back to the mother ship to get the batteries replaced when they discharge for $150. Come to think of it, with a pocket full of extra batteries, we'd be able to go 24/7 with a couple of pit stops.

Luckily, the battery is so light that possibly having 1-2 extra batteries won't feel any weight inside the bag. If Samsung can release a "battery" direct charger (instead of charging through the phone itself), it will probably make my life easier.
Anyway, though the battery life is not as good as I originally expect, I still consider this phone as my best phone, EVER.

not really, the SGS2 has less pixels than the iphone 4 in that test, for example. and the iphone 4 also is hardware accelerated for browser and all UI elements, so its kinda a close match. smaller screen, but more pixels, but SGS2 has larger battery and AMOLED, so really its matched up.
Galaxy S2 Battery RESPONSE
Hey Guys,
I sold my iphone 4 to purchase the galaxy s2, never owned an Android phone before, I posted a post on the forum about rooting methods for the S2. Before I purchased the phone i did research on batter life and I read most users could do a full day or close to 2 days without charged. They said it had a better battery than the iphone 4 this was the decisive factor which lead me to buy the phone. To come to this post and read that the pone battery last only 4 hours for browsing this is childs play. I feel somewhat cheated and deceived.
Has anyone in the forum here achieved the 24 hour battery best while using the phone in full capacity ? How is this acceptable to you guys, 4 hours ? This is unacceptable.
Thanks

Yes, I too read of the great battery life of this phone - but not on here - but on reviews from the likes of techradar etc. Very deceiving. That said, I can get through a typical day quite easily on a charge, but it's never going to take on the iphone on battery life no matter what they say.
That said, I think (hope) the situation will improve with more mature firmware.
It is a shame, but for me, its not a dealbreaker, especially as I am always near a power source.

most iPhones do not truly multitask, so they do not waste power. it is also a walled garden, with fewer freedoms, and fewer possibilities to mess up admittedly highly tuned and optimized power management scheme. Remember it is one OS on one piece of hardware, with every component tested and tuned to near-perfection.
and yes, if you set your SGS2 browser at 100% brightness, auto-enable Flash (that will waste power on all those moving ads etc that you are not even looking at), turn on music in the background streaming it to your Bluetooth headphones, enable Gmail sync, Exchange sync, Facebook, GVoice, GTalk, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Chat, AIM, Twitter, etc, and browse (read mostly black text on mostly white backgrounds) for 2-4 hours, your battery will drain.

Hello,
Can you or have you used the sgs2 for 24 hours or more of heavy useage? Can you provide testimony for those who feel limited to the 4 hours of browsing others experience. In respect to your prior post, using your sgs2 surfing with flash OFF, twitter OFF, exchange sync, OFF,Google Voice OFF, BlueTooth OFF, Can you get a full 24 hours usage out of the phone ?

I think the difference may be in scrolling. It doesn't sound like the test included scrolling of web pages - just loading. And I suspect that the super smooth scrolling you get on the SII gives those dual cores a good workout.
Hi
I have a question regarding the battery life on the prime.
ASUS advertise up to 12 hours on their website...
I'd expect to get at least half that with normal use..
How long does your battery life last with normal use?
Like ebook/pdf reading, some browsing, some youtubing and maybe some
light gaming?
I dont have much running on mine, i always try to kill backround processes.
I always have it on low brightness and turn the wifi off when not in use.
I usually dont make it much longer that 4 hours with light use... maybe 5 hours.
I use mine mostly for pdf/ebook reading. A little browsing/youtubing here
and there...
Is this normal or do I have a defective unit that I should replace?
Other than this I have no problems with the prime.

My wife and I get about 8 hours heavy use. Video, nook & browsing.
With similar/more usage than what you describe, I get much more than advertised...at 70% right now on performance mode at 7 hours at full brightness with wifi never sleeping. Keep in mind their 12 hours was playing video the whole time. I'm ridiculously impressed so far.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA
I can't tell you exactly how much I get, because I never got down to under 20%. To be honest I mostly use it with the dock, watching video and browsing outisde (+IPS) on never ran into battery issues after 2-4 hours.
So I never every until now worried about the battery, it was just there.
it really does last quite well, im used to charging my phone up every night and i cant get this thing to drain quickly, i wanted to do some full drain cycles on the battery and it actually took hours and hours to empty it.
you wont be disappointed!
Honestly, coming from an Apple employee, it kicks the iPad's ass not only at battery life, but at charging too. This thing charges in just about the same time it takes to charge an iPhone.
Wow.. 8+ hours... I dont see that happening on my unit.
I think ill try a factory reset and if that doesnt help
I think i'll have to return it for a new one.
Thanks everybody for your comments
I get about 16 to 1 day and 6 hours with the dock (That's using it very wildly, meaning not sparingly).
I surf alot, watch videos, play games, test settings.
I use IPS+ sometimes only but most of the time I have my brightness level on about 70%
Cheers!
Well, just did a factory reset, down 6% already after ~25minutes.
I think i'll see if the store will let me return it because of
unsatisfactory battery life
I get like 6 hours on screen time generally....pretty bad. Probably a lot of bugs to work out with the tegra 3 still, hopefully Asus is working on it. I do not even do anything that intensive, just web browsing, chatting, taking notes, don't even watch videos or play games too often. Battery life would probably plummet if I played games.

Wow.
With the screen on?
Could you possibly take a screenshot of the battery statistics?
I would really appreciate it so i could have something to compare to.
Or even anybody with similar results on their prime?
16,5 hours since charged, and i've got
2h40m Screentime
3h24m WIFI on
61% charged
Usage: Watching a movie, surfing, playing around with the system;-)
Fully charged at 1pm yesterday, after flashing Primulous from cwm touch, i have been benchmarking, browsing, took about 10 min of 1080p video, running wifi analyzers to configure repeater in my house, left on overnight, on balanced mode. Woke up at 5am, have been youtubing, browsing. Its 8:30 and battery just hit 20%
I AM IMPRESSED to say the least, battery life is so good due to running "minimal" when flashing Primulous, wasn't quite this good when on stock, with bloated apps
I have just about every tab on the market in the past 2 years. iPad, iPad2, Transformer w/dock, Acer, HTC Flyer, Kindle Fire, Galaxy tab 7, galaxy tab 10.1 and now the Prime w/dock. The Prime battery outlasts all of them except the gTab for me. I get about 2 days between charges prior to the dock and about 3 with the dock. Stats right now are at 70% tablet 92% dock with 10h 36m on batter and 2 hours of screen on.
With WiFi running at 10h and taking up 81%of the battery. I switched it off this morning to see if I get an improvement since I dont use it and I definitely see a HUGE improvement.
I've always had issues with leaving my WiFi on connected all the time. Lasts about 4-6 hours with WiFi on all the time. Now that I have it on JUST when the screen is on, it lasts about the good 6-9 hours. Anyone having this issue too?

With web browsing, ebook reading, and some YouTube I get 12-14 hours when my screen is set to "power saver" performance mode and with the screen at about 25% brightness. If I have the Prime plugged into the keyboard dock I get 15-18 hours depending on what I am doing.
First thing. Don't kill background tasks. Unless your Prime is seriously suffering performance issues you should ignore any background task that is running. Compulsively killing tasks will actually drain your battery faster. Do you have a lot of apps syncing? Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc? If so turn off the ones you don't use often or at least set them to update no faster than once an hour. Also, set the WiFi to turn off when the screen is off, this will improve standy battery significantly.
If you keep getting battery drain, before you return the Prime do a factory reset and see if that solves the battery drain. There could be some system process that isn't ending correctly and keeping the Prime awake. Factory resets are wonders at solving this kind of glitch.
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to ask some general questions on how you like the HTC evo 4G LTE (That is a mouthful..) anyways hope you can help.
1. What is the general battery life? The stats say 7.5 hours of talking, but I don't know how accurate that is...
2. I have read all the positive reviews, but I am more interested in the negative. So where does it get a negative mark in?
Any other info you would like to share about your experience would be helpful!
Thanks.

Battery lasts 12 hours easy with moderate use.. ymmv depending on how much screen on time you have but the battery is better by far than all previous EVO phones.
The only negative I can really think of personally is that the multitasking behaves funny sometimes. I notice re-accessing an app from the multitasking screen sometimes restarts it which it shouldn't do but I'm sure they can fix that with an update.
Overall I absolutely love this phone. I have owned android phones since the launch day of the T-Mobile G1 and this is by far the best phone experience I have ever had.

1. With moderate use, you should easily get through an entire day. I've taken my phone off the charger around 7:30 am two days in a row now, and it doesn't get juiced again until midnight. First night I had 20%+ left, last night I had 8% left after 14-15 hours of use. Yesterday, usage included: calls, texts, corporate email sync set to push, internet browsing, a few photos, listening to a few music tracks, a LOT of downloaded album art (the HTC Music app took care of a lot of missing art for me), Google Maps, and some light SNESoid and Draw Something.
2. So far my only complaint is the clock/weather widget places me in a different city about an hour west of me about 1/3 of the time I check it. A bit odd.
Hey all! Is the Z Ultra still worth buying today? It has one of the best displays around, its design is not matched and it is half the price than when it was released which is around 300$ now.
But here is my dilema, at 300$ there are small tablets like the galaxy tab S 8.4 and others with great screens and battery life to compete. With that said my biggest concern which led me to consider other devices is the mixed review I got on battery life. But there is no great place to ask except ZU veterans
IS IT THAT BAD?? I do reading and watch occasional videos with average of 4hrs of screen on time with 3g/4g constantly browsing and downloading/uploading. Can't it handel that?
Are the days of the Z Ultra over or does it have some fight in it to compete?? I am all ears to listen to what you all got to say.

Some wi-fi usage and web browsing. However, this was done whilst the screen was at full brightness.
I'd say Kitkat was better for battery life. Should you be patient, Lolipop 5.1 will be released for the Xperia Z Ultra sometime in February.
Bugs and stability/performance and battery should all be improved.

Normally with every device i have used, i havent been able too see anything while outside. If i turn the brightness up, i can read and see everything fine. The phone has the latest android lollipop, and does have a good display with some still very good specs, i havent found anything that does not run perfectly. With lollipop, this thing just flys. My battery life is around 5 hours with very heavy usage, that is because i am always watching videos, or playing games, searching the web, etc. With light to medium usage this lasts me easily all day and then sone. I have unlimited 4g LTE and stream movies all the time, it works great.

Ive been asking around and am getting roughly the same answers. 5-6hrs on heavy usage which is good news for me, and with some tweaks and mods things will get even better I hear, which makes it that much great. With the visibility issue, if setting the brightness at maximum will do the trick, then i have no complaints. I rarely use it in bright daylight but I don't want to squint and stress my eyes when I do. thanks again!

Hey guys, I've been looking into this extended battery for my Alpha since I barely get 9 hours use from my phone (mostly listening to music through Soundcloud for about 4 hours and a ton of browsing reddit/various forums about 2 hours a day). Lots of people told me to go for a larger phone with a larger battery capacity but I don't like holding bricks in my pocket so I went for the Galaxy Alpha and mostly happy with the performance minus the battery life.
Looking into it, I've found the extended battery kit on Expansys (Cant link since this is like my first post here)
So far that's the only place in the UK that I could find that sells the kit, and would like to know if anyone else has seen it elsewhere. I've never ordered from Expansys before, usually stick to Amazon when I can so just want to confirm they are reputable before I order.
Also want to know if anyone has had first hand experience with the kit itself, how much extra juice does this deliver, and how much longer does it take to charge up? Already read through the "official" numbers, and it seems like it will be good. I remember doing the same for my Galaxy S2 before I bought this phone and that goes for about 15 hours for a day now (gave it to my sister).
Thanks in advance for any answers!

I didn't really think that the battery life was terrible but I ordered one of those extended battery thing for more grip.
Now, the phone is still very sizeable, and actually it is now the perfect size for me.
The slight thickness it gains increased the phone's presence in my hand greatly.
About the battery life with the kit, I used to get about 12 hours with the original battery and now, I get about 1.5 Days or so with ~4 hours of SoT. It varies greatly if I just surf the net, listen to music, vs. I play games, etc...
So in general, I can go about 2 days without charging and that is GREAT IMO. (S5 that I used for a bit had similar battery life I would say..)
I say get one when you can, as you really do'nt know when they are going to run out of the stock.
will the extended battery work with wireless charging back cover ?
