Too many missing features for the OnePlus 2. - OnePlus 2 General

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the OP2 is missing the following..
- QHD display
- NFC
- USB 3.1 support
- Rapid Charge
- Wireless Charging
- SD Slot
- Removable Battery
- CyanogenMod
- FM radio?
Personally having a hard time understanding the hype here. And it'll cost $425 with tax for decent size storage and 4GB of RAM.

nfc is the deal breaker for me but i'll still get it, just to mess around w/it

I'm still excited for this phone and as for your missing features, here are my views
- QHD display - Thankfully it doesn't have. QHD is a battery drainer and seriously who watch a QHD movie on a smartphone. On day to day use no one notice a difference.
- NFC - yes its lacking. but i have hardly ever used NFC before. and google wallet is still limited to US (even there it's underdeveloped)
- USB 3.1 support - yup its lacking
- Rapid Charge - honestly gonna miss this feature.
- Wireless Charging - nah usb c makes up for it (kind of)
- SD Slot - 64gb will be enough for me so no complains
- Removable Battery - 1080p display, 3300mah battery should be enough to get me through day. for emergencies I have 10000mah power bank
- CyanogenMod - I'm a iPhone guy as of now, planning to move to android. so never used Cyanogen Mod. But I have read that Oxygen OS is close to stock android. so it's a good thing (I guess)
- FM radio? - having this would have it awesome but even without radio 64gb is more then enough for good media library.
Just hoping to get an invite now to enjoy android device

NFC is a deal breaker for me. In Denmark they have already rolled out mobile payment to a lot of stores and it's not slowing down. I'm really surprised that they left it out. How much can it really cost?

Although it is missing a lot of features, but I still want to buy.

If you think about those features... Would you really miss them? And weigh them in with the number of improvements...

Biggest thing for me is the rapid charging. No nfc that's ok
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rapid charging is important. After seeing what my friends note 4 can do I really like it.

not worried about nfc only used it for sending pics anyway.

QHD, SD Slot and Removable battery (and even the Wireless charging) are not "missing", it is you who expected them and they are not there.
Also it was old news that CyanogenOS will not be on the OP2, but still hopes for CM 12.1 +

exactly, I mean really that stuff is not a big deal what people make it to be. NFC really just slide your card or use paypal, use Bluetooth to send your pics. Quick charging might get put in a kernel. As for the type c they really should've went all the way with that. For what we get for 389 I am very happy

Cyanogen shouldn't be on your "missing" list.

just wondering why nobody is talking about the real bummer, even here on XDA?
here it comes:
search for custom roms for dual sim devices, no matter whether google search or xda search, result close to zero.
honestly speaking that's a no go for me, never ever shall i trade in my perfectly tuned phone and user experience for a naked OS with almost none of the features i want and partly "NEED"
i started a discussion on the topic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-2/general/discussion-custom-roms-dual-sim-devices-t3168136

Yeah, apparently the necessary hardware is missing as in there is no power controller that could handle any sort of fast charging in the device

I wonder how fast it will achieve full charge, with such a big battery... I love my OPO as the charging is really great especially sometimes when I can juice up for 30 mins only. But I've read somewhere that OPO doesn't have quick charge too?

I consider the lack of Waterproof ability to be the most significant missing feature about the OP2.

Has that been confirmed? This wouldn't be the first device to support QC2.0 without any mention from the company, presumably because they're not including a charging brick that supports it.

SGSII Help *moving over from 4s*

So, after being an iPhone user for a while, I've finally talked myself in to making the plunge and going for android and the SGSII seems to be the best handset available at the moment. I just have a few general questions that I would like answers from you guys who know.
Firstly, when rooting and flashing ROM's does it matter if you have a white or a black version? I still havnt decided which one to get but if this is the case id prob go with whichever one is supported more.
Secondly, battery life. Can you guys give me some real life battery stats? My iPhone 4s usually goes 12 hours then it needs charged. This would normally have around 5/6 hours of actual usage and thats with brightness set to virtually nonexistant in the settings. Would the SGSII be equal to or not far off that? I've seen theres an extended battery pack available too, does that make a huge difference?
Thanks

For rooting / custom rooms black or white doesn't matter. Important is model no. like i9100 international version or AT&T version etc. most roms and customization support i9100 international version.
I have both. SGS2 and iPhone 4s. Battery life is almost similar. On standby sgs2 gives me more time. but no big difference in practical use as per my requirements. SGS2 will last a day at least if you are a heavy user like me.

Well I'll be buying my SGSII from o2-UK. Not quite sure what version it will be. The Apps i used the most are messages apps. like Whatsapp and on the iPhone it drains battery for fun!
I was originally going to go for the Galaxy Nexus. But after seeing it in the plastic/glass it wasn't as nice as I'd expected.
I'd get the Galaxy Nexus over the Galaxy SII. Just my 2 cents.
Welcome to the land of freedom and variety!
No, colour doesnt matter, both have the same hardware, the ONLY diff is the physical housing.
Battery life should be around the same as a 4S, i can get a full day and ahalf with moderate use and around 10hours with heavy usage.

I dont think it warrants the extra money, here in the UK the SGSII with o2 is £449.99 but the Galaxy Nexus is £529.99

It will be a i9100 if you get it from O2 UK.
I get between 4 and 7 hours of screen on time, upto a few days of standby time, might only lose 3-10% ish over a 9h sleeping night (when i forget to plug my phone in) (idle usage will also depend if the phone is being woken up all the time, theres a great app called better battery stats - see sig - to help find out whats causing the problems)
The big factors are:
* Type of usage, 3D gaming will use more power than texting
* Data usage, wifi uses less power than 3G
I would get the 2000mAh battery, better life, not much thicker (though it does mess with some cases), and as its an official battery you know its not fake.
I would get the nexus myself, ICS + updates from google = win.
Though the SGS2 has one of the best non nexus dev communities (imo of cause).
In general, read lots of guides if you are going to mess around with your £300 slab of electronics

As long as the USB stick is fat32 (limits file size to 2GB).
Yeh, it sounds awesome, but I have never found the need, 32GB SD card ftw! (Also MHL adaptor, when my computer was in for repairs, I plugged my phone into my monitor, headphones plugged into phone, and used it as a media player, FTW! Shame we cant do USBOTG and MHL at the same time)
The nexus is more expensive, and not really "faster" than the SGS2, the only thing is a stock ICS look.
I was going to flog my SGS2 to move to the nexus, but then by bank balance told me to stop being a twit and use a ICS theme while I wait

Whats USBOTG and MHL? Im a complete an utter noob so sorry if I sound stupid
I wouldn't leave my GS2 for a Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus has awful batt life, crap camera, weaker GPU and no memory card slot.
USG-OTG (On The Go) is the feature you are talking about, where you plug in a usb stick.
MHL is the tech used by the GS2 to do HDMI via the USB Port. Hopefuly someone can better explain MHL than i just did though, lol.

Ah I get it now!
Is 'screen on time' with Android how much you actually used your phone?
As for the battery-life I have more good news for you.
If you choose to install a custom-ROM later, you have the possibility of literally boosting your battery-life. MIUI+UC+UV=....well, my personal best was not charging the phone for three days and still have more than 60% on moderate usage.
And the second thing is the SAMOLED+ screen. While it has its downsides, the upsides make it clearly a winner when compared to a LCD. The contrast and brightness are high enough to make me use a low brightness-settings most of the time and still see everything, even if it's bright outside. This results in a better battery-life too.

Buy a 16gb micro sd or a 32gb sd remembering the phone has 16gb internal memory too (give or take customizations) and put all your films on your phone no need for anything else apart from a player app such as rockplayer or vital player to play back pretty much any format of video including xvid/divx and mkv with or without subtitles

I don't know, I have a 32gb card in there and I like to be able to add extra storage occasionally... Also adds to the convenience... I don't always have my usb cable for the phone but I generally carry a usb stick. Its plugged into the sgs2 adaptor so I always have that too. Good to "steal" stuff off of mates pc's without needing drivers to be installed...

You get about 4-7h screen on time, aka using it, how you spread that out over days is up to you!
Idle drain is very low as long as the phone manages to deep sleep, aka you dont have any rouge apps.

I was planning to get a zultra but was wondering if a new version might be announced soon. Zultra was announced last June. Is there any news at all... Nothing showing up in google

No idea, but the ZU2 will probably pop up this summer. I haven't seen any leaks or anything though, so I have no idea what so ever.
Most likely, new versions of gadgets will be announced this June-July onwards.. So this is not the time to buy any gadgets!
If you really want to get the ZU or any other phone out there, I would suggest waiting till October or the actual release date so the prices of the predecessor would drop down. In this case, the ZU..
It would really piss you off if you buy the ZU for example $600 and then finding out that the ZU2 will popup next month and the original ZU would drop down to $400!

Just a week of using and I really love it . Very very impressed with what sony has done on the software side and the build quality is so good.. Holding in the hand and looking at it is just a pleasure. The last sony device I used was P990i. . It was a master peice of hardware that was failed but by the software.
There is no news about a new version anywhere. Would be disappointed if sony decides to drop this line. Nothing much change for next version but would love to see some new features...
- Decrease the Bezel as much as possible.
- Wireless charging.
- Camera needs a big improvement.
-Screen needs to be more brighter.
-Make the powerbutton more accessible.
-USb 3 port ( faster charging)
-larger capacity battery
-Weight reduction
-Some more sensors like pedometer

most of those are mutually exclusive, the phone will charge at a shade under 2000mA untill the battery warms up so you should be able to charge in just over 1.5 hours (if you break your phone battery by using a higher rated charger (or usb3 and root) and doing this, don't blame me). Agree on the camera, although with a little reading you can get some good pics off of it.

Kind of disappointing numbers from MKBHD, who's reporting less battery life than the 1+1, along with slow charging. His unit will be a month out of date by the time the 1+2 actually starts shipping, so there's hope (not sure how realistic) that further polishing of OxygenOS will improve the autonomy.

It's not USB-C Type 3.1. The connector is USB-C, but still using USB 2.0 tech. It just like Nokia tablet, it does not give you faster transfer speed like USB 3.0. Same as Apple's lightning connector ... old USB 2.0 tech lol
Opt has much worse battery life
Src: https://youtu.be/91av8wCH7CI
I guess that battery life is a bit worst because of OxygenOS.
I just test OxygenOS yesterday and the biggest issue I have had with it is the full package of Google crap pre-installed in this ROM.
I always install "pico" or "mini" package of GAPPS, so I setup my newly install ROM in like 5 mins.
I spent about 20-30mins on the OxygenOS and during that time GAPPS was still installing itself! Just horrible
So, I´m pretty sure that the most of the battery drain is due to full GAPPS package
I have 3 day battery life on my O+O if I do just Viber during a day - Temasek ROM + TK pico GAPPS
My guess is O+T will have at least same battery life once there will be different ROM with "smaller" GAPPS :good:

Apparently advantages of USB Type C port will be unleashed with Android M, Search Google for "Android M to support USB Type-C for faster charging" Fast charging for USB type C will be available in Android M. Does this mean we will need to upgrade the cable the O+2 ships with I don't know, but things might get better with Android M.

Should i buy Moto Z in todays market for 285$ is it worth it ?

I got this amazing offer on moto Z more than 50% off. Should i buy it. i read alot of reviews that battery life sucks or volte problem or Bluetooth or wifi problems i am just really confused. Should i just buy a mid tier phone with mid tier secs and forget the flagship of 2016.
I paid 400$ for it when I encountered a 50% reduction in August(it costs 800$ in Croatia) and I can tell you this:
If you don't care about battery life(which is logically not great since it's a 2650 mAh with a 1440p screen, but you do get a 5.2mm thin body),this phone can't be beaten by anything under 400$(I am the type of person who buys a phone and gets bored of it within a month, yet I still adore this device). The battery also charges from 0 to 100% in an hour and you can buy a battery mod if you really need a lot of juice on the go.
what other problems are you facing ?
how much screen on time are you getting ? are there any other problems ?

With a custom rom(and a full black theme) the on-screen time is a lot higher. Honestly, I don't count that much but I get through a regular day without issues(listen to music on my way to college, take a few pics here and there, go through the web, chat, play non-intensive games, listen to music on the way back). It definitely helps that the battery charges fast.
Agree with above, just got mine 1 week ago for similar price. Obviously still tinkering but my opinion so far :
- If you are okay with bad battery life (max 4 hours SoT with stock rom & careful usage for me), it's a definite buy with that price.
- Mediocre camera can be fixed by using Google Camera HDR+ port for Snapdragon 820. It is recently ported and we can hope for better port in the future.
- If you are afraid of AMOLED burn in, there are many options to prevent it. Personally, I am using Tiles + Edge Gesture for non-root user.
- Major drawback is battery life, it can be fixed to some extent with custom rom & full dark theme as mentioned above. Or, try to find bargain for battery power pack. But, I just found out that using power pack will cause Doze never kick in, so battery drain is high. Seems installing NapTime to force doze while charging did the trick for me but still testing.
At that price if you don't want it let us know where to get it. With the Turbo Power adding just $79 if you really want very long battery life or the $49 for a slim Power Pack for long battery life you still have a good deal. It's a way to charge your phone differently it might make you a Z fan. I think mods are awesome and the battery mod can prolong the life and health of the internal battery using efficiency mode.

Ditch nexus 9 or try with a custom rom?

Hi, I've been using n9 (16gb wifi only model) for the last 2 years and I pretty much enjoyed the experience with it but the battery is starting to annoy me a bit.
It lasts less than half day using only kindle app, browsing, and maybe watching some videos. But the worst part is the time spent in charging the device, like 4-5 hours aprox. I also tried using an external battery but when I'm using the tablet while charging it just maintains the same percentage, it doesn't charge.
Looking for alternatives I saw that I can get close to 150€ if I sell it now but I'm not sure if it's a low price as for 2017 or is a good price, and also if I could get a decent device with only those 150€. In the same store that offers me those 150€ I've seen iPads and some android tablets close to 200-250€.
The other alternative is to try with custom roms like Lineage or Slim and see if that improves the performance just enough for not having to be charging the device every single day.
What would you do?
Thx in advance.

You're always going to have to charge a tablet every night if you're using it a decent amount during the day. Any tablet.
Custom ROMs help the performance, a ton. Slim gets good battery life. Honestly the best battery life I've gotten on N9 is on the last build of Dirty Unicorns. They stopped at 7.1 though. Not a big deal except for security patches. I'm running AICP right now. Tons of features, but I'm noticing a little more battery drain than slim.
I can't speak for iPads because I don't use them. Just because of the limitations on playing your own media (movies transferred from PC) and certain casting situations, or downloading things (torrents and such). Mine is mostly for media consumption, and most of what I do can't be done on an iPad.
That said, I've heard they are great if they can do whatever it is you want to do with a tablet.
I don't think mine takes as long to charge as yours. Maybe try a better charger. I changed the daughterboard on mine (contains the USB port) and it charges faster now. That's not what I changed it for though. Mine was starting to fail to read my USB stick, and that fixed it. But an added bonus was better charging. They're only like $10 (us) and only took about 20 minutes to change. Couple screws and a couple ribbon cables.
USB otg sticks are a great way to add additional storage. I have a 64 GB one and it's great. It's micro USB on one side, and USB 3.0 on the other so I can transfer movies onto the stick from my PC really fast.
Sorry for going on so long, hope it was at least slightly helpful.

Really appreciate long answers :good:, you've given me a lot of ROM options and even hardware replace options. I think I'm going with Slim rom and I'll buy a new charger and see if that's the problem, because I think most of the things I do with tablet can be done with airplane mode and just having downloaded the content previously on usb stick (already have a otg adapter). Thank you very much
