I am also interested to prevent the screen turning on when receiving sms or email..it gets annoying especially during meetings where i put the phone on the table and the room is dark during presentations.

to stop the screen coming on for sms i've installed sms popup. you then switch off notifications in the standard sms app an let sms popup handle incoming sms messages and it has an option for leaving the screen off.
I've exactly the same problem, screen turning ON when receiving mail, exchange account!!!
Any solution????
sorry to bump this but has anyone got a solution ?
it's very annoying to receive an email and then find that my screen has turned on and then find that i've magically phoned someone, all while my phone is in my pocket. :-(
i'm surprised that there's not an option to stop the screen turning on ...
Bumping again - this is a major pain in the rump.
Like others, I have a feeling that this didn't happen before KE7.
bumping - had my phone for so long and only now after reading this thread noticed the issue
I have the same issue, though I am using NoLED with the lock screen.
So an email comes in, the phone screen flashes on and then the screen goes black with the email icon per NoLED settings. The flash on only happens with email and not with text messages or whatsapp notices.
This is weird indeed and I haven't been able to find a setting to solve this. This happens with the stock email app or the gmail app.

PLS HELP! Text messages not working when connected to Wifi - going crazy

Hello Everyone,
I understand the concept that Text messages are not related to wifi as it uses the service provider network but I got a strange problem that is killing me and I can't return my phone unless they see the problem so I'm hoping that someone on this thread can assist me.
I have the Galaxy S3, signal strength is good and wifi as well. I reset it to stock and have not installed anything. When I'm connected to wifi I will not get text messages. I will only get text messages if I send a text message out and then I'll receive the text messages.....sometimes a bunch as if they were buffered. I will also get them if I disconnect from wifi immediately. This happens 80% of the time and it's driving me crazy. I have good signal and this only happens when connected to my wifi.....can it somehow be related to my router....it really beats me as I'm out of ideas.
Please help me out.
Thank you very much in advance

Data is disabled on phone when MMS is received

Hey all,
My wife's GS4, NK1, rooted, has this weird issue with Google Hangouts where, if someone sends her an MMS, the data shuts off.
So if I send her a picture, she gets a notification that there is an MMS waiting, but as soon as the notice pops up, data shuts off. Or if she's in a group conversation, every time someone replies using MMS, her data shuts off.
This only seems to happen with Hangouts, as I tried EvolveSMS and it can receive MMS just fine.
I have tried clearing the cache in Hangouts, uninstalling the app, checking and unchecking options in settings, but nothing seems to fix it. Has anyone seen this issue? Do you know how to fix it? As you can imagine, searching "hangouts turns off data when receive mms" on google is less than helpful (as are other versions of that search).
Thank you for your time!
Bump...
Still looking for a solution to this.
same
I have the same problem and ive been struggling to find any solution. Ill let you know if i find anything but this is super annoying.

[Q] How to stop notification sounds when in a phone call?

Question: How do i turn off notifications during a phone call? I cant seem to find that as an option anywhere. I text a lot and need it to do business so i need to have notifications on, but when im in a phone call, it goes off like crazy and really distracts me from listening to the callers. Is there a work around this? or do i simply just need to mute my phone? Help please!

Viber turns on automatically

Hi.
Just switched to N5 and noticed that viber keeps turning on by itself. I looked in the viber settings but couldnt find anything that will prevent form turning on when i receive a text.
Does anyone know the solution?
