I'm getting a warranty, Verizon S4 replacement today and I'd like to know the current programs for rooting. The last one I used was Saferoot. It worked well and is that the current most owners use?
Kit Kat question- do you have to return back to stock to get the update? I still have the Odin files just in case.
What is the current discovery? On my S3 I used TWRP and was very satisfied. What is the equal, if there is one, for the S4?
In my S3 I really like the Kit Kang JB 4, is there a compliment to that one. I'm not a huge modifier and was quite happy on my last S4 with the exposed framework set of programs. The one thing I miss is that lock screen circle of icons.
Thanks

Thanks, I know that. i was hoping to get others experiences not just to shave some reading time. The S4 is no way as easy as the S3 so I don't want to makes mistakes. I want to learn from the group
Thanks

Well I'll just say that your most likely not going to get an MDK S4, which means Safestrap will be your only recovery choice.
Like he said above check out a sticky that was made regarding what you can and can't do.
Unfortunately... There isnt going to be any kit Kat roms for you until TW for Verizon S4 comes out.

Guys thanks for the responses. Can you please answer, if possible, the questions I re-pasted above. My main concern is if I have to return to stock for the Kit Kat upgrade
Thanks
When it becomes available, yes, you most likely will have to return to stock everything.

Yes if you want to take the ota from Verizon to get kit Kat you'll need to be on stock. You'd have to remove xposed and get your phone all bloated back up for Verizon to allow the update. Most times it can be easier just to use Odin and get it back to stock. That's just my opinion.

Sounds like the plan. Thanks!!
If you're OK with just stock and xposed then you'll be good as I said before you're replacement s4 is most likely going to come with the updated bootloader that won't allow you run any AOSP roms.

I am rooted and on ToxicSwamp MJ4.. I do not care about tripping Knox. I would like to know if there is a stable KitKat and if so how do I get there from here. Do I need to go back to just plain stock rooted MJ4 or is it stock unrooted MJ4? And do I use unrooted recovery or TWRP? And bootloader. .. and Kernal? Things are changing so quickly it seems and I'm getting further and further behind. As you can tell I'm also more and more confused.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Please try to excuse the noob-ness of it all.
Thanks
J

Check out the kitkatkiller thread. Go back a page or 2 from the end. Micmars has a good write up there that should help. Kitkatkiller is currently a test version but it is very reliable and I personally haven't had any issues. Be sure to thank those guys over there. It goes a long ways

I would also highly recommend Freeza's fre3 ROM, found in development section. A few minor tweaks and OUTSTANDING battery life.
Good luck!

Not another "when will we get root" thread........
You will get it, when you get it.
But then, you may never get it.........
Why do people take the OTA then wonder about root.
If it's that important, be patient.......
I agree. What's the rush to update only to be stuck? We live in an instant gratification society anymore. Wait to update. There is nothing of significance in the update that you need it right away.
Verizon is really trying to clamp down on tethering. Foxfire is broke in the update... The most Verizon app requests root privileges to track tethering on unlimited plans. Stay away from updates until those in the know give you the go ahead.

right so why wait? Why not Downgrade to MK2 then flash any system img capable of MK2 install safestrap then re-upgrade the right way? Look under the development section we have a 20+ page spread on how to do it properly. This will give you root and access to a butt load of new 4.4.2 ROMs. It will also give you root you'll just have to deal with this method for time being i doubt it will change anytime soon. It works fine if you havent upgraded yet put on the breaks and do not upgrade your bootloaders. All you really need to upgrade is your AP and CP with hlos. Then switching between 4.4 and 4.3 is cake. Right now I've got 4.4.2 Custom ROM on my stock slot and a 4.3 gDux 1.1 on 1st slot and an AOSP ROM on my 2nd slot. Ive got a variety literally goes 4.4.2 to 4.3 to 4.2.2 AOSP and I couldnt be happier in terms of what I can throw on an use with my phone.
Actually Firefox just updated and now works on 4.4.2

It'll help if you provide us more information on what you're currently running. Are you on MJ4, NAB, NC5? Can you provide a snapshot of your settings page and of the update notification.
Our answer will depend on what you're currently running.
Well it looks like im running NAB. 4.4.2 kit kat and as for the update message I havent gotten for a bit but its a over the air update I believe.

If you want to take the ota your phone must be official under device status..... so more than likely you will need to use Odin to return to stock which you can just use Odin to flash nc5 and you are update now ...

I have been looking for three days and still no luck so I thought I would ask the best... Anybody know if there is a root method for UVU1FOF6 (5.1.1)? I am wary to try and do anything seein as how this is my replacement S5 since my other was stolen in June. This one came with this build and I can't find any literature on this build. Somebody please help because now that this has 5.1.1 it blocks my tethering and so I am limited to hotspot (which I am desperately trying to figure out a way to hide its usage or get my tethering back) and its my only interwebz option since I live in BFE... Any help will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!
As of right now there is no unlimited hotspot available for 5.1.1. You can try to down grade to dob1 and try twisted rom 5.0(it leaks but not much) or kitkat.
You may be able to downgrade to 5.0 using odin... there are a few threads about how to flash 5.0 using odin so i would start there...
and this thread contains an optional tether addon zip file, not sure if its unlimited but its an option http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...t/how-to-update-to-g900tof6-5-1-1-pc-t3141404
The only reason I say to hide my usage is idk if it's built into the mod or what but my buddy has a nexus I believe and his mod just doesn't fully register what he's actually using (we easily used 20 gb and it only registered like 129 kb and I like that idea (who wouldn't) but yeah I figured I had to roll back... I was just hopi g there was another way... *grumble*
