GT-I9300 Unusual Version of "Not Registered To Network" - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

PLEASE HELP!!!!
I have read as many posts/forums that I can find on XDA (plus or minus a few I may have missed) and I have not found something matching my situation. While there are many revolving a missing, corrupted or invalid IMEI, this does not seem to be my case, at least according to my phone.
I am new to rooting, posting on XDA, and unlocking a phone
The beginning:
I had a locked, unrooted GT-I9300. Out of nowhere, I start getting "not registered on network." I had already decided to go with a different carrier/network and purchase a different phone. (The phone was on a contract that I did not continue after it expired. ) Circumstances necessitated that I keep this phone and just use a different carrier. I figured I would have to fix the "not registered on network", unlock the sim, and root the phone (not necessarily in that order.) I looked up several different articles , both through XDA and Google, that talk about the "not registered on network."
What I have done:
None of the non-root methods worked for my phone. According to the phone, I still have my original IMEI and S#. At this point I decided to root my phone. I have TWRP recovery and am currently running on the original stock ROM as I didn't want to risk corrupting (maybe further corrupting) my IMEI, etc. I will list full phone status below. After rooting, I tried to use GalaxSim unlock app (an older version than what is at the Play Store, due to it not being available in my country due to laws.) It states that my IMEI, S#, etc are: undefined. It also says it is unable to read my nv data.
I am afraid to try any of the nv data fixes with out double checking first, as according to my phone my IMEI and S# are correct.
Full Phone Stats:

ROM upgrade changes IMEI?

I’ve been sent as a gift from my friend in Spain a new i-mate windows mobile pocket pc phone edition – HTC Himalayas Model PH10B. It did not come with a SIM card.
On starting for the first time (booting in English) it then immediately went on to “personalize” itself (in Spanish) and seemed to set to Vodafone (with a spanish CDS number and airtel.es I think for ISP services)?
I obviously want to use it with a UK network SIM card (I would prefer to use my contract O2 SIM)
I installed Outlook 2002 from the companion CD (ver 1.0 sept 2003), then downloaded and installed ActivSync 3.8. The device connects no problem to my desktop computer (winXP) via USB and my Outlook Contacts etc synchronize to the device OK.
I used the xda2ulock.exe v2.2 tool which now tells me that everything is "unlocked".
I tried to flash upgrade the ROM using O2 xdaII ROM’s with no success. I also tried to flash/upgrade the ROM to version: 1.72.00wwe and Radio version: 1.14.00 by downloading RUU172126WWE_imate.exe and RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1.exe from the Club i-mate web site. The main ROM refused to upgrade, (I tried twice) stalling with the Country ID error message and leaving the device in the Serial/USB bootloader v1.06 grey screen. Fortunately the Extended ROM (RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1.exe) recovered the device so that I now at least have: -
ROM version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM date: 02/02/04
Radio version: 1.10.00
Protocol version: 1337.18
ExtROM version: 1.72.800
and an i-mate screen.
Device Data returns the following information: -
U S B 3 2 - 1 . 6 6 . 0 0 W W E - P H 1 0 - C D L - W W E - 1 . 7 2 . 8 0 0 - 1 . 1 0 . 0 0
Using a Vodafone UK SIM card, the phone send/receives texts, connects to the Internet and detects all other UK Networks when searching manually. However, it will not receive or send any phone calls, even though the signal strength indicator shows all thermometer bars (4) OK and the “G” icon appears next to Vodafone UK under “connectivity”. (The device just doesn’t want to know my O2 SIM card – won’t do anything!)
Now I discover that when dialing *#06# the IMEI number shown (which matches Settings/System/Device Information/Identity) is not the same IMEI number as shown on the packaging label and the silver label inside the device behind the battery!
Has my friend been sold a “stolen” device with a Spanish blocked IMEI number which has been re-packaged as if new? Have I caused the problem by trying to flash/upgrade the ROM? Can I find out if the IMEI has been blocked in Spain (I have tried UK Networks who say they can’t trace and report on what Spanish networks may have done)?
I-mate technical support (Milton Keynes) suggests the best they could do is arrange to reload the Spanish Vodafone software, and they would charge me for that privilege, if and when they might be able to organize it!
You can imagine that I feel embarrassed to relay these problems to my friend in Spain whose integrity is unquestionable, yet I can see no other alternative unless someone on the forum can help?
Has anyone got any ideas?
its impossible installing a new rom does not change the imei number there are also no known ways to change imei on xda2
Thanks for info gazzaman2k.
i-mate tech support also said its impossible to have the software showing one IMEI number whereas the hardware shows another - but I'm afraid that's IS exactly what I've got!
I wonder which IMEI number is right? The number on the packing box and silver label inside the device behind the battery, or the other number according to Start/Settings/System/Device Information/Identity?
Does it matter anyway?
it its working fine then whats to worry? lol

Read the post. The guy can't make calls.
nholtom, Its possbile for a device to get an IMEI change if it goes off for repair and gets a new motherboard. But in that case they would change the sticker under the battery. Maybe that happened but they forgot to change the sticker?
Its unlikely to be blocked as stolen as if that happened in Spain, then it should work outside of that country. However it has to be said its behaving as though it is barred as stolen. Maybe it was originally a UK device and had a lost/stolen bar over here - and then sent to spain where it would work normally.
Looks like you'll need to speak to your friend in Spain. Very odd if the imei under the battery and via the settings don't match.
JD
Thank you jdee246 - yes that could be it.
Perhaps my friend managed to buy it at a discounted price if it had been a repair job, (it is after all a very expensive gift at full retail)!
If that's right, it seems that the real IMEI number would be the one that is shown through the software and NOT the one as shown on the labels.
I guess I will have to contact him and ask if he could check with Spanish Vodafone to see if the number has been blocked.
One other possibility might be what is listed on the following web page?
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=PPSIM_VODA1&asource=108654
Anyway - thanks for giving it some thought
Update on progress - or lack of it :-(
My friend in Spain confirms he bought it new "unlocked" from any network and his receipt shows the same IMEI number as on the box and inside label. However, as previously posted *#06# returns a different IMEI number which Vodafone UK now tells me is blacklisted! They can't understand how that has happened or why, if it is blocked, how I can still send and receive SMS messages and surf the net from the device by using a Vodafone UK Data/Voice or Vodafone Voice SIM card.
However, although I can text and surf with a Vodafone SIM card in, when phoning from the device, all one hears are three short beeps and then disconnection. If phoning to the device from another mobile or landline, one never hears a ring tone. My contract O2 SIM card won't even register on any network when I put this in the device!
At the moment I've given up trying to upgrade the ROM, (I do at least have a working pocket pc), but I really would still like to be able to get the phone working!
Are there any experts out there who'd like to hazard a guess at what I can do next?
What about this one

[Q] [I9070] Unable to call/receive calls and send/receive messages.

Hello everyone. Today I was in the middle of sms conversation and suddenly I realised that my phone lost it's ability to send messages as well as calling/receving calls.
Here is info about my phone:
Model/firmware:
Currently flashed rom: I9070XXLQB_I9070OXXLQB_HOME.tar.md5
Model number: GT-I9070
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I9070XXLQB
Kernel version: 3.0.31-66490; [email protected] #2; SMP PREEMPT Tue Feb 15:52:28; KST 2013
Build number: JZQ54K.I9070XXLQB
Network information:
Network: T-Mobile.pl
Signal strenght: -79 dBm 17 asu
Mobile network type: EDGE
Servise state: In service
Mobile network state: Connected
My phone number: unknown
Offline mode is obviously off.
APN matches network.
*#06# shows correct IMEI.
I searched an answer on xda and did everything that you advised (flashing another rom, factory resets, swapping SIM card, removing battery for 15 mins, etc.). Only thing that I haven't done is flashing modem, because I don't know if I can flash it on i9070.
Ask anything, I propably forgot to tell you about something.
Bump.
Please help me guys, I'm very desperate.
Is the phone number unknown so you won't display it in forum ? I wouldn't think it should say unkown. Also, maybe check the smsc number and make sure its right.
Sent from my USCC-US760 using xda app-developers app
Try flashing modem.bin or whole new firmware once again of Samsung through Odin...hope it helps you...
@custom-tisto
It literally says unknown. SMSC number is also correct.
@Shrihari007
I had tested few roms from sammobile.com. It didn't help
And just to make it clear- phone works perfectly fine, except of any sort of "phone" service. I'm worried that it could mean some kind of hardware problem

[Q] Won't recognize SIM

Hello, I bought a Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 Unlocked/International Version from amazon and got a new SIM card for it. I tried the SIM in another phone and it works perfectly, however, this phone does not seem to recognize it and if I try to make a call I get the message "mobile network not available.
I thought the phone might be locked, but I ran a check and it seems to be fully unlocked. This is what I get:
Network Lock: [OFF]
Network Subset Lock: [OFF]
SP Lock: [OFF]
CP Lock: [OFF]
If I go to phone settings, phone number and network show up as unknown, network type: GPRS, network state: disconnected, service state: out of service, no roaming.
My IMEI seems to be fine, I have a 15 digit number that does not appear to be blacklisted (did an online check). The phone is brand new, in its original box and sealed. I got it 2 days ago so I have not done anything to it, software update is not possible because of failed connection. Model number is GT-I9100, Android version is 2.3.5, Build Number GINGERBREAD.XXKI3.
I tried to find a solution online but all I get is that it might be a hardware problem. I was wondering if there is anything I could do to make the phone work (or something I might be doing wrong), or if I should just go ahead and return it and get a new one. Thanks in advance!

Can't call or text but I can use internet

I got a custom rom and it was working just fine but i didnt like the style of the rom so i went back to stock rom and found out i cant call or text.
When i go to my settings it says:
Network: Searching for Service
Service state: Out of service
Mobile network state: Disconnected
My phone number: Unknown
MIN: Unknown
PRL version:0
ERI version:0
My IMEI is fine.
SCH-R530M
I have been trying to get a response but no one helps me.
It's because you are asking in the wrong forum, read the sticky on American models.

Galaxy Note4 SM-N910C cert fail only emergency calls

Hey there!
From one day to another my phone stopped working. I did NOT modified in any way, always used offical firmwires.
It says only emergency calls, and when i call someone it says "not registered on network".
I did soft reset/hard reset and also firmwire update, no success. Tried every single soultion in settings (setting only GSM ect ect).
It can
-see the sim card (others too, also sims are working fine in other phones)
-has signal all the time
-see every other phone network (when i try to choose any it says the same "not registered on network" message)
-IMEI and SN number exist not empty or null
I bought it from a supermarket years ago out of the box, factory SIM free, not reported stolen, have my IMEI number when i type *#06#, BUT when i enter the service mode (*#0011#) it says:
CS: reg_denied
MM state: nocellavailabe
PS: reg_denied
GMM state: GMM_noservice
IMEI CERT: FAIL
Support net block : 1
What can be the problem and how could i fix without taking it to a service shop? Any idea/post appreciated.
got a similar problem . i can't register on network and on 0011 i get:
CS: reg_denied
MM state: Attempting ToUpdate
PS: reg_denied
GMM state: LimitedService
IMEI CERT: PASS
Support net block : 1

Sent it to Samsung service and they repleaced the motherboard and a few other stuff, but the main problem was that. I have no other info about this issue, working since then.
What about the IMEI?

IMEI number, other serial numbers pretty much stayed the same, never lost them. The only thing changed is the date of manufactoring since it has a new motherboard. It was free tho, I managed to get extended warranty, motherboard + service charge overall can go up to 100-150€ /don't take it as a fact/.
Service mode looks this now:
CS: reg_roam (roaming at the moment since on holiday)
MM state: NormalSrv
PS: reg_roam
GMM state: Registered
IMEI CERT: PASS
Support net block : 1
