Hi for the past week I've noticed that the charger wire that came with the samsung fast charger gets really hot on both ends (USB and Micro USB ends) it gets hot to a point where if you hold the end for 5 seconds you'd want to take your fingers off. The metal part of both ends are even hotter. This over time causes the battery/phone to get warmer and warmer and eventually to around 40 degrees.
I had another wire which I bought a few months ago (some griffin data cable) and tried using that. That wire just gets warm on both ends and seems okay as it doesn't get as hot as the original samsung wire, and the phone doesn't get hot either (stays around 33degrees battery).
When using the griffin wire it still shows Fast Charging and seems to charge just as fast.
Should I stick to using this griffin wire and can I use any wire with the Fast Charger? Also could I possibly have a dodgy Fast charger? I only noticed this a week ago after reading problems about accelerometers not working etc and I am not sure if It always got this hot from the day I got the phone/charger.
Also if I continue to use the original wire what would be the safest temp to let the battery go to before I should just get rid of the wire, I've only seen it hit 40degrees which i've then just turned off the charger.
Thanks for your time.
EDIT: Since I am in India at the moment and will be going back to the UK in under a week should I just buy a Fast Charger from Amazon with the UK plug pins, would the Qualcomm http://www.amazon.co.uk/Auzest-Qual...95391&sr=8-5&keywords=samsung+fast+charger+s6 work just as fast as the original samsung fast chargers or should I just get a Samsung one from a Samsung store in the UK (I suppose it will cost a lot more though)

My ss galaxy tab 7.7 is just abount 3 mos old and I'm very happy with it. My only concern is I have already busted 3 chargers. Is it the low quality of the chargers or is there something wrong with my Tab. Thanks
I just got mine few days ago and the charger gets very hot, even smells like plastic. But it was the same with my old P1000, they get hot, they smell like burning but keeps working Maybe the voltage at you home (wall plug socket) is not consistent?
strange thing about stock charger
I bought an cheep USB extention for my 6800 stock charger.
Now it does notget hot at all,
Also I have a 4 OUTLET switching charger thatworks well with the tab.
I picked it up at a place called xscargo.
Alternet chargers
I have also found that chargers that are for chargeing usb batterys are also hi-output
And very good for chargeing tabs.
I have tryed the ones for iphone battery packs and thay are very good for the 6800.
I use my stock charger on a surge protected power strip. It does not get unusually hot or smell like plastic. Maybe I have luck or it is the surge protection.
so i think i have the most weird droid razr out there. in order for me to charge my droid razr i have to take two wires wrap them around the battery terminals and connect the to a special made charger ( usb or wall charger with a hot and ground wire sticking out). the phone does not say it is charging when i do so but after connected for awhile the phone holds charge just like a regular charger. also when i try pluging a regular charger into the phone to charge it it says its charged a 100% but the phone will not keep charge and eventually cut off. if the phone dies it will only come on witht the special method. if using a regular charger the phone displays and battery with a question mark inside it. i figured that it has something to do with the two connecters on the board that touch the battery connector. not the battery terminals but the two prongs inbetween the terminals. i have not found a actual fix for this problem and the phone is such a good phone its worth doing this to get it to work. if anybody has any ideas on how to permanently fix this so i can go back to using the regular charger i would like to here it but until then the challenge is still unaccepted let me know what you think
well i am wondering about how hot the turbo charger gets. i got my nexus second hand and don't have the original motorola turbo charger. i tried putting my samsung fast charger to it and it got extremely hot. hot enough to smell like burnt electronics if i smelled the actual wall plug. its output is 1.7a or 2.0a
i also have used a old htc wall plug to charge and it got pretty warm. not anywhere near as bad as the samsung. it has output of 1.0a
i just ordered a charger off ebay and hope i don't have the same problem. it isnt motorola but it asked what phone u were using it on when i bought it and i selected the google nexus 6

My phone gets warm with the fast charger, but not hot. Definitely not hot enough to smell like burnt electronics.

No its the charger that gets hot enough to smell like that. The phone feels a little warm but noting out of the ordinary. I'm trying to figure out if I am gunna damage the charger or cause a electrical problem. Trying to figure out the best alternative to the stock charger

There are a bunch of qualcomm certified quick chargers on Amazon in that price range. I see nothing in that ebay listing specs you linked to that even indicate it is a quick charger. Look into Tronsmmart or Aukey for example.
I'm using Aukey and working well
I know I've never used a charger that got super hot. The phone of course but the charger itself? Nope.
You should not use a charger that is getting as hot as that. If you aren't careful, you are going to set fire to your house.
It's not unexpected for a charger to get warm. I mean, it IS basically acting like a resistor so that you're not pumping house current directly into the Micro-USB port. But if the charger is getting that HOT that it actually has that electronics burning smell.... yea, i wouldn't touch that even with my second cousin's neighbor's friends 5 year old phone that hardly works anymore (metaphorically speaking...).
My charger wire doesn't register the first time and you have to unplug and re-plug it back in for it to say fast charging, so enough of that and I tried two other cables. One is a Sony charger cable, and the other is a very old htc wire from who knows, i believe the mytouch 4g slide? LOL which is 2011 I think, they both registered fast charging the first time. And the wire doesn't get hot at all at the microusb end to plug into the phone like the included samsung one, just the adaptive charging block. Anyone else experience this?
Yep I did as well just replace the wire, I don't think the provided wire can handle the current that is needed to charge the bigger batteries in note 5/s6 edge plus unlike the s6 and s6 edge, I got one from amazon and now fast charging is registered everything I plug up
Now my original cables and others i used to use all shows up with slow charging now. Like 5 hours from low battery

Started having this issue about a week ago... Haven't tried a different USB yet... I'm in school currently, so I guess I'll try a different USB when I get back home today.

My husbands phone was doing that, then it started to bug out like we were taking the plug in and out over and over again when it wasn't even plugged in. Now it doesn't charge with any wire. It also keeps opening VR gear and popping up a "not charging" notification. Here's the kicker, this is his second edge + with the same issues. We got it at Best Buy. Verizon is now sending us a refurbished phone.
We spend 600 bucks on the new phone and 8 weeks later have to get a refurb. I think they effed up with the USB connection or fast charging stuff. ?

Samsung's own wire just sucks, their block is good, but you just gotta use a third party wire, at least in my case, the original samsung one gets way too hot, while third party ones are not even warm to the touch at the connector end plugged into the phone
It keeps making the vr gear app go bonkers. Now my phone is doing it. This pops up every 2 seconds or a black screen with a tiny X on the bottom. Have to keep a cord plugged in just to type this reply or the phone goes bizerk. 3 of them now that we've gone thru and using the new chargers from each. Now we both will have refurbs. I loved samsung for years but this is crazy.
I had the exact issue. charging would take 6 hours + oculous would not work, just go black when connected.
I went to the samsung repair center in Los Angeles and they said the issue required a motherboard replacement to be resolved. They told me to RMA it or go to Verizon to get a replacement under warranty. I went to verizon for my replacement.
I own 2 Note 2's the first one burnt while charging, it still works., but obviously does not charge anymore.
I replaced it with another one which also got very hot while in charge and had an electrical butning smell, but i got to it quicker and it is still in working order and able to charge, alrhough very slowly ie 5% an hour.
Is this a common fault with Note 2's ?
Also the battery will deplete in less than 4 hours from full charge just on standby using stock rom.
Am i unlucky or am i doing something to kill my phone.
Any opinions or advice greatfully received
No, this is not normal so perhaps it's a problem with the phone. To rule out the charger and USB cable, you might want to swap those, too, and retest.
I thought so. How widespread is this ?
I have 2 that have done the same thing.
I have tried different chargers and most of them dont work with my 2nd RMN2
I have not heard of this problem before. Either there is a problem with the phone itself, or (more likely, since more than one phone is affected) something is not right with your electricity mains supply. Do you have a surge protector/voltage regulator device/adapter?
Almost every charger should work maybe the output of the other charger were too low (and device uses up more than charged)
I got myself another charger (from Samsung with 5V 2A) because my old charger burnt out >_<
