I know it's an Edge, that's I told the OP to go to the Edge forum and linked to it
Originally it was in the 'normal' S6 forum but it looks like it's been moved by Mods since me initial reply

Are you on XWKE2?
Its driving me nuts seeing this topic repeatedly posted with no real answer if all owners experience it, or if the volume codes fix the issue.
I have the same volume issues with headphones connected and answering calls... can barely hear anything while on subway etc...
Hopefully the voodoo sound feature will be ported to SGS II soon...

I'm on KE1
yes, anytime I am in a mall or anywhere will back ground wind... it is very hard to hear the other person....
on a side not, kies keeps telling me there is an update available... each time I run it, I get some dll error... hence me browsing the forums right now!
Is this a third firmware update?
I have the same issue. Can't hear anything with headphones and without them the sound is very muffled, as if there is no treble. My N95 could go so loud that it hurt!
I'm on XWKE2. Any suggestions?

Hi, this is my first post. I have similar issue. I have no problem in a room with low noise but when I'm outside or in a noisy room I barely hear the voice.
if the problem only with headphones then try using Voodoo Louder from the android market. that worked for me. i never had any problem with the headset volume on my sgs2.

My phone is unlocked[T- mobile galaxy s 2], I Have tried every GSM carrier[att pre paid, t- mobile pre paid,h20, Simple mobile, Real att, real t- mobile. (by real I mean contract) , Thought was network issues. It wasn't. Well, I gave up. Called Samsung and shipped my phone for repair. They were quick. from shipment to repair took less than own week and half. UPS second day ship and UPS second receive that four days plus three days repair. Well, the issue is gone!. They fixed the problem. What they did was raise all the sound volume Bars by default to 100 percent. I can tell this by going via volume settings. Now I'm scared of trying Any Rom coz I don't want to lose this settings. My phone was shipped back with original stock rom. Unrooted. Just rooted back. that's how far I'm willing to go , But then again ICS rom is spitting distance based on the news on my hears. don't know what to do. I hope Samsung can Distribute THIS ics ROM . with default volume up. Or hope xda can send a memo to their rom agents to default volume up. Its 20 million users out there in the galaxy two world. Crying for help. with this particular problem. Yes it's not hardware problem . its software problem. Proven.
Hi XDAers,
I believe since rooting (it might have occurred some time after) my Samsung Galaxy SII GT9100, I am not able to use my speakerphone as the other party to the call can't hear me. This problem is the same whether I use the regular phone, Skype, Viber or any other communication program. I have no problems with the mic when the phone is not on speakerphone, and I can use any recording application successfully.
I originally rooted my phone, flashed LighteningROM, went back to my service providers ROM (though rooted), and just today switched to CM9. I'm not sure exactly when the problem started occurring, but it was AFTER flashing to LighteningROM and before flashing to CM9. Is there any way to debug the error? Could it be due to flashing a bad radio or the like?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Speakerphone uses the top mic, not the bottom. Is the top mic clear and uncovered that you can see? If so, it may either be a hardware issue with the upper mic, or the rubber housing on the upper mic in the internals of the phone may not be seated properly, and is blocking sound to it.

The top mic seems to be uncovered. I believe I once read that Sound Recorder and applications alike use the top mic as well? If this is the case, why is the mic working in these applications?

Wasn't my intention to "get you" - hope you didn't take it the wrong way! I've just flashed back to stock ROM, but the problem persists. It appears people CAN hear me, however I am so low, they say it's worse than if I whisper with speakerphone off. Looks like it has to go back?

When I said "you got me", it's another way of saying "I don't know". I took no offense.
And yup, if you don't wanna mess with opening up the phone yourself, and you still have warranty, I'd flash back to stock, reset the flash counter, and send it in.

Did you ever get this working with your S2? I'm having the exact same problem. I flashed the stock 4.1.2 Jellybean via Odin and my stats are as follows:
Kernel: 3.0.31-Siyah-s2-v6.0b5+
ROM: I9100XWLSW
ROM Codename: REL
Radio Version: I9100XXMS2
Should I try flashing a different stock ROM? Does each one bring a different radio that may make a difference? Thanks.

Have you tried another ROM, restore backup etc. In short, what measures have you taken on your own to troubleshoot this problem.
- yes, the phone uses another means/ Mic when you are using loud speaker

Unfortunatly i was out of the country when it happened so i was never able to claim warranty on the phone or anything so i've had to live with it.
I have tried everything i can think of to try and fix it. Different ROMS, diferent kernals, different modems. nothing has fixed it.
One thing to note, is that when i have headphones in, the mic is fine. Would the be some trickery i could pull to make the phone always use the loudspeaker microphone, even when in handset mode.
current rom is paranoid android 1.99 w/ dorimanx kernal.
i think that lower mic is used when speaker is off , but in speaker phone it uses the the upper mic.

Sorry about that.
Your own case looks like a definite hardware issue. Too bad you are out of country but if you can still visit any Samsung service center, you might be lucky. Those guys are always very nice and helpful to customers in my country even if you are out of warranty.

I've not flashed a newer ROM to see if is that yet as its my wife's phone and I've not had time to back it up before I flash.
I have the same phone and not had this problem
I've also posted in the neat ROM thread and no one has had the same issue
So if there is two mics do you think it could be broken

Since its your woman's phone and you can't probably flash a new ROM at this moment, fine.
I'll say, let's assume it's as hardware issue.
I'll advise flash back your stock original or officially update firmware, And just send it to service center for repairs like normal warranty claim.
Good luck

Hello s2 users!
just wanted to say i have a really big problem and i really hope that someone can help me!!!!
today i bought my I9100 from a friend. the phone is from germany and it is like 4 months old
well when i was testing it (just to be sure it works) it worked flawlessly, i mean it was very awesome and i couldn't believe it worked so great
so i bought it and when i arrived home i formatted the external sd he gave me (2gb) and i restored the system to be as a new phone
after the restore process i installed viber, whatsapp, skype and an app called MagicUnlock that i had on my previous phone
after talking like 30 minutes, the audio just stopped. the speaker stop working in any possible way just no sound anywhere
but the audio works while headphones connected i mean when i connect the headphones, after 1-2 min the speaker works but not the headphones
i said about magicunlock app because it doesn't work (i'm pretty sure s2 has proximity sensor) but i can deal without that, i only said to know if it has a connexion
and when i extraqct headphones audio on speaker works for another 1-2 min then stops and have to make the process again
well now the speaker works without the headphones connected ( it is working for like 30 min) and hope i dont have the problem again but is there anyone who can give ANY answer to that what could be the problem? my friend is saying it could be because i restored the phone but i dont think it could...
SRY MY BAD ENGLISH
Could be
Best thing to find out all phone working corectly is reflash stock room again from here

That is no excuse for lack of common sense.
Plus its the exact same any other forum anywhere on the net for any subject. The topic title is supposed to be descriptive of topic so that people browsing forum can see at a glance what topic is about rather then just generic vauge "need urgent help".
I´m using this fantastic rom, but i have one annoying problem...
When I plug my headset (original from sansumg) the notification sound still plays through the phone speaker. Also i noticed that when i plug it, it doesnt show the headseat icon near the 4g icon.
You didn't mention your phone, but is it this rom?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/rom-s7-edge-rom-v1-1-t3356699
If so, there does not seem to be anything within in the rom that would cause this as other members reported it worked for them and surely would have made others complain if it was an issue. Have you tested other headphones? If so, and they work in other devices then you will probably need to reflash or try another rom.

Sorry, my mistake.. but u´re right, that is the rom. I have a S7 flat!
The headphone is working because it plays normally the sound. It is just the notification sound that is being played through the phone speakers. I did try other headphones and the results are the same
