Hi,
I am using a rooted S6 Edge (SM-G925FQ)
On location settings , I have enabled wifi, mobile and GPS.
If I am outside, and the phone has GPS coverage, it shows correct location.
If I am inside, and no wifi is available (off), it shows very incorrect location information. (out of my country borders, even 500-600km away)
So it seems that the phone does not show correct location when it uses mobile network.
However, from same location and same settings, my old S5 and S3 show correct location (through mobile network)
is this a known problem with S6 ?
How can I solve this issue ?

I sometimes get the same problem with my stock unrooted phone. I haven't found a way to solve it.

Have you tried using the fast GPS app from the play store?
I have the same problem on a stock s6 no edge with package disabler and it's very annoying

what should we do ?
would it help if I post a support ticket to Samsung ?
thx.
so what do you think about this ?
if I enable wifi, GPS works fine.
but without wifi, I hardly get correct location.

Hello,
The weather (my location) was working correctly initially. Then I installed SPB Mobile shell 3.5 but uninstalled it later. And now the weather (only my location) is not working.
If I add a city explicitly then it shows the correct weather for all the city. Only My Location is not working.
I checked that my google maps is working properly.
Is there a registry entry which was changed by SPB Mobile shell? this is just my guess.
Please help.
have u enabled my location google??

Yes, I have enabled the "Location Service Settings" in Settings -> Locations. Is this what you were asking?
Also my Google maps is working perfectly Ok...
One more thinkg I noticed yesterday was my location (Weather) updates corectly when connected to wifi, but does not work on 3G or Edge.
All this started after uninstalling the SPB Mobile Shell
Can someone please help !!
Try updating weather outside of the building, maybe it needed some GPS info and couldn't find it if you are inside. If that doesn't work am afraid you need to hard reset.
yeah i have the same problem. everything that uses gps works fine but my location weather and my location in peep they just say that data is unavailable.
i live in puerto rico but the my tmo service is from usa.
Does anyone have a solution for this issue?
Hello!
I did try searching the forums on this site and others but haven't found others discussing the exact same problem so here goes.
On my Galaxy S2, if I open Google Maps, my location shows my location incorrectly. I can understand without GPS it won't be exact, but I'm seeing my location as being at least a few blocks away no matter where I am. Same thing if I'm connected to Wifi, should that help or not? I used to own an old Windows Mobile 6.1 phone and before I would turn the GPS on, Google Maps would be off by a few feet, maybe a block or so. I was with Bell (CDMA) and I'm still with Bell (GSM).
"Why don't you just enable GPS and forget about it", you'll say. My problem is that I need more accurrate locations without GPS. I use a Cerberus which will allow me to connect remotely to the phone to get it's location if it's lost or stolen. If the phone is on, no problem, Cerberus will enable GPS in the background and I'll get the location accurately.
If the phone battery has died (which won't take long with the S2), I need to use the "Location History" to find the last known location (which won't have been retreived using GPS since I don't keep it on all day long).
1. Does anyone else have a problem retrieving semi-accurate location without GPS?
2. Why would I have accurate(ish) location with my old Windows phone and not with my Galaxy?
Thanks in advance!
Ala

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has experienced problems with GPS and google maps attempting to locate current location? With both options under settings ≥ location services enabled for GPS and using my WiFi at home I am unable to retrieve my current location it just says your current location is temporarily unavailable, so though id see if anyone else has the same issue.
Im using 10.1.C.0.370 firmware.

Hey man, I have the WiFi version and I noticed that the stock Navigation app sometimes has problems finding my location compated to my Samsung phone. I was on the road last week traveling between France and Germany and on some occasions I had to use phone to get directions because the tablet would simply not get any GPS signal. On other occasion it would work. It seems to be pretty random. I'll post if I find more about this.
Hi thanks for the info, ive been messing around with it some more since i made this thread and this morning i was finally able to get a GPS signal and get google maps to zoom in on my current location but i had to go into settings > location services and disable Google's location service and turn off my wifi so it was just the GPS running. But after doing so i re-enabled the settings and turned WiFi back on and it worked fine lol.
maybe its just a bug in the software i don't know but your right it does seem spotty at the best of times.

Ive seen this as well. I also noticed the weather widget never updates location despite being set to auto refresh.
Just got my Z2 and I'm practicing in offline/unregistered mode because I plan to use the phone without Internet during a trip abroad. Got OsmAnd installed with maps etc.
Problem is, I can't enable GPS without agreeing to some data collection on me:
The device will download information about your current location to improve the performance

"The device"? Is this some SONY crap, or Google's Android? How will performance be improved?
How do I disable this if I don't want my location sent to some random server? If I Disagree, GPS stays disabled.

In the Location menu in settings, set Location mode to "Device only", you'll notice if you select "High Accuracy", not only does it say it'll use Wi-Fi and mobile networks to determine location, it'll also have the notice about data usage pop up, Device only means it will solely use GPS to determine location.
Probably to help get the initial fix for your position?

Imagine High Accuracy mode as A-GPS, using data networks to download GPS coordinates as well as getting your location from IP address location and network proximaty etc
Device only wont use any data networks or cellular information either, try it out anyway, take your sim card out and turn wifi off and go for a walk, see if it works.
It just downloads agps data which helps, making the gps fix much faster. Since this download may charge your service fee, you get the warning. Its nothing about Sony, every phone with gps does that.

Hi, I have very inaccurate location based on the cell tower triangulation (in building), it shows me my location to be almost 100 m away outside of the building. (my friends with G2 and S3 has got correct location in the building , when they are on the same place as me).
Please do you have any tip, how to fix it? Or there is nothing I can do with it? (only to buy a new mobile)

cell tower location is always inaccurate. your friends were probably using wifi location. in settings, these two are together called battery saving location. just turn on your wifi and you'll have the right location displayed, you don't need to be connected to the wifi network, you just need any kind of internet connection

Well actually we have both switched wifi off (and we turned off the GPS in location menu). and we have the same net provider. I have even downloaded antennas program, and put it on the both mobiles, they are at the same place and both shows a different location.

GPS is very poor on the G2 Mini, that's probably why.

lol if you turn gps off, your phone just shows the last location it remembers.. also, it is possible that one of you has turned an option on, which enables for the phone to look up wifi location even when wifi is turned off

yep, that would be the reason - their GPS can fix the location even in the building, so the last location is from the building... Thank you for your tips, I will not any more waste your time... Another lesson is learned, next time, when I buy a mobile, I will run a GPS test to be able to return it within 14 days of protection period...
