Hey everyone
note that this is my first post so I can't post it in any dev threads so I must post it here, sorry.
Today, I tried to install custom firmware onto my YPGS1 (US version with capacitive touch home button). The firmware I am trying to install is http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-6-samsung-s-wifi-3-6-cyanogenmod-10-t3046129, cyanogenmod 10 for the 3.6. I followed the instructions but got a completed 0 success 1 failed thread. (using Odin3 1.85, the version designated in the original thread for the rom. I've tried other versions and they don't detect the player) I tried twice and decided to just stop but I couldn't get out of download mode, so I force rebooted (I think i just held down the power button, but I might've taken out the battery) and now when I turn it on its stuck at a "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again" screen with a phone with 2 dots to the left going to a yellow error triangle and then a computer screen. The good news is that it appears to still be in download mode, but I still can't install a rom. I've tried a different usb cable, different usb port, completely different computer, and tried multiple different roms. I get the same issue.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everybody. I bought a fascinate from CL, which was soft-bricked, thinking I could fix it. Guy told me it froze updating to 2.3. It had been stock the whole time. Phone would not boot at all, no display, only four bottom buttons would light up on touch. No dl mode, recovery, or anything.
Odin somehow would still recognize the phone (comm port turns yellow) but fails during flashing of modem. I tried all stock .tar packages with atlas pit too. I tried to flash superclean with no modem, Odin said success, but phone did not do anything.
Now, I moved on to Heimdall to flash. I successfully flashed stock 2.2. When reboot command was sent, I heard the verizon startup sound, but still nothing on display. I waited a little until the phone vibrated when touchwiz force closed. Then, I locked/unlocked screen with power button and the display came back! Yay, I thought until I saw no internal storage, cannot install app, blah, blah.
Now, every time I turn off the phone, it returns to bricked state. Odin still fails, only Heimdall one click unbrick can successfully restart the phone, but again the display is off until it finishes loading and i can lock/unlock the screen.
Sooo, am I just stuck with no internal storage and cannot ever turn it off or does anyone have another suggestion? Thanks for hanging in there and reading all of this too.
So it seems that the phone powers on into dl mode, maybe? The screen is blank but Odin will see it when I plug it in the computer. This is no key combos or usb, just power button.
It also connects right back to Odin if the flash says success. The phone will reboot (I guess, no display), then Odin beeps and com port added again.
Sorry for double post, just thought that was weird.

follow the steps in section 5 of my guide in general section.
I was using your guide from the beginning. I tried both the Froyo and Gingerbread but Odin fails at the modem.bin every time.
Tried all usb ports, reinstalled drivers, rebooted computer...
The heimdall one click is the only thing that kind of works. Are there any other heimdall packages to try?
I am new here so I dont know if this is the right section. I have a galaxy note i717 that was originally for at&t but it is unlocked. I tried to install clockworkmod using odin 1.85 with a tutorial I found online. Now when I turn it on it says Firmware upgrade encountered a issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again. I tried going into download mode by pressing the volume down and power button and then pressing volume up at the screen but I just get the same message. When I turn it on I feel a little vibration though so I dont think it is hard bricked but I dont know too much about this so please help. What I did is this.
enabled usb debugging and then rebooted the phone into download mode
connected it to odin 1.85 and selected pda, opened cwm-i717.tar.md5 and disabled auto restart and the other thing that was important to disable
clicked start, it said complete so I unplugged it and took out the battery and rebooted
and then I got this screen
after I did some research I downloaded a official tar.md5 for it that was like 700mb or somthing and tried to flash that
i couldn't go into download mode but i just connected it at the error screen, it showed up in odin and I said start, again making sure the right things were disabled, it said it flashed it fine and it passed. When I rebooted I got the exact same message as before.
please help, I have tried everything I could think of and I have been searching the internet for several hours and still havn't found anything. This is my first ever post on any forum so I'm sorry if it is in the wrong place. Thanks
Hello,
Some threads with similar issues are already around, but I didn't find one with the same problem as me.
What I was doing when the issue happened:
I was trying to install cyanogenmod from the isntaller method (apk isntalled on the phone, application running on windows that installs it automatically). At certain point, it rebooted the device and the cyanogenmod logo was on the screen. After a while, the program gave an error "'We couldn't talk to your phone' - Samsung devices ONLY", which is described in their wiki. So the pc lost connection to the phone.
What I did:
1 - Since I had installed the clockwork recovery and tested it before, I thought "hey, no problem. I'll hust recover this S*it". So I disconnected the SIII from the PC and tried to enter recovery mode pressing "volume ip + home + power". While I have these pressed, the phone in in an infinite loop on the initial screen showing the brand and model. When I release them, it goes straight to the cyanogenmod blue creepy robot just there staring.
2 - Since that didn't work out since I now don't have a recovery mode and I don't have any functioning rom either, I found several tutorials for using Odin and reflashing and or repartitioning. PROBLEM: Odin seems to recognize the phone (com port), I click on the option and... FAIL!
2.1 - What I have tried: Different Odin versions (1.83 and 3.09), stock drivers from Kies, Zadig drivers.
So. There you go. I pretty much exhausted everything I could get from my head and interpret from google. So, No recovery, no ROM, fail at odin.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Remove kies from the pc reinstall drivers and flash a cwm recovery. From there flash a custom rom in recovery from ext sd. Odin 3.04 is good. I would keep trying to get into recovery though. Do you have that red mark in the corner on Sammy splash screen?
Yesterday I glanced over to my Samsung Galaxy S3 to see the startup logo (as below) just stuck on my screen. The one that says "Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300".
Here's as much useful info about my phone as I can think of:
I have never tried to root my phone, or do any other modding to it
I bought it second hand from a friend, who says they have not done anything of the sort either. I did a fresh install of what I think was Android 4.3 when I got it
I live in the UK and I think the phone is from the UK too, originally tied to a provider but is now unlocked.
I obviously attempted to reboot the phone. I held down the power button and after quite a few seconds the screen went black, then I let go and instantly the same startup logo reappeared. I tried again, without releasing the power button this time, same result.
I tried plugging in the charger, held down the power button, and it then went to a sort-of charging screen. There was a little grey icon on the battery, appearing as though it was not charging.
It wasn't showing the usual charging animation, rather a different one with a greyed battery icon. Holding down the power button on this screen performed the same as with the original logo screen, it just looped.
Here's what I then tried, in order:
removing the battery for 5, 10, 30 minutes. No luck.
leaving it at the startup screen for 30 minutes. No luck
gently tapping the side of the phone, in case the power button was stuck. No luck.
entering RECOVERY MODE and CLEARING CACHE PARTITION. No luck.
entering RECOVERY MODE and WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET. No luck.
downloaded Kies and connected phone to PC via USB. Kies recognised that the phone was connected but it would stick at the "connecting" screen. I tried multiple USB cables and multiple USB ports, both front and rear of PC. No luck.
I then downloaded Odin and attempted to 'flash' (not good with the terminology, excuse any mistakes I make) my phone using various firmwares I found on the internet. I tried the md5 file both in the PDA and PHONE boxes. I kept downloading "BTU" firmwares(?), read that's what I want somewhere. The file name is "I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_I9300XXUGMK6_HOME.tar.md5". However I kept encountering various errors, ranging from "there is no PIT partition", to "can't open the serial(com) port". Basically it would always fail.
I tried 5 different versions of Odin - 3.10, 3.9, 3.7, 3.04, 1.85. No luck, same errors.
I then tried uninstalling Kies, ending all processes related to it, and retrying Odin. Still no luck, getting the same serial(com) port error.
I then tried to use a "GT-9300.pit" file that I found online, in the PIT section of Odin. No luck
MY CURRENT SITUATION:
Having tried all of the above, my phone no longer enters recovery mode. When I boot my phone it goes to the following firmware upgrade error screen saying "Firmware upgrade encounteerd an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
It allows me to enter DOWNLOAD MODE, but not RECOVERY MODE. It loops in the same behaviour as previous screens. Even when on charge it shows this screen now.
I have tried my best to include everything I can so I can get more appropriate help. I do not have any experience with phones and I have tried everything I can by myself, hopefully someone here can help!
Long story,if you know what is Teamviewer i can help you. It would take long time to troubleshoot what you did wrong. Best thing would be to start from scratch.

Thank you so much for your offer to help!
I do know what Teamviewer is! I've used it for many years
I also have Skype and a webcam (for showing the phone), so that would be very useful too..
Ok,we don,t need Skype. It's not important for me to see the phone. I will tell you what to prepare, what to download so we can be fast and productive

I looked at the 5 threads that were suggested as soon as I typed in the subject. Cool feature!!!
So my wife's S3 Tab is stuck in a bootloop. I tried wiping cache and factory reset. Didn't work. I have not enabled developer mode and I can't now as it is stuck in a bootloop (duh me!).
I tried to flash stock firmware using Odin 3.14 and I got a fail.
Now the tab is flashing this message. Blue screen and white text.
"An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software"
How can I fix this? Please help!

Hello. As far as I know, if you do not have OEM Unlocking enabled, you cannot flash anything through ODIN.
However, you should be able to flash stuff in the green screen you are in.
Download the *proper* stock firmware from sammobile.
By proper, I mean, if your tab has no sim then download for T820
and if it does Download for T825. Then download with the proper CSC code. (it is basically the region you bought the tab from. Look it up).
Download and flash with ODIN 3.14. You can flash stock roms from the Error screen you're in. Also be sure that you're flashing everything properly and have the proper drivers by following everything here: https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-to/use-odin-flash-samsung-galaxy-stock-firmware-0182037/
press the thanks button on the bottom right of my post if i helped. Means a lot
