Hi,
I was wandering if anyone could have a list or even better a screenshot of the contents of the SD Card, supplied with the phone, when the phone has nothing installed or changed (Out of the box condition).
I am about to reset the factory defaults, but i guess this would only affect the internal memory, and if i wipe out all of the data from the sd card i could probably delete something importnat, this is why i need this information.
Thanks in advnace.
I believe that the sd card is empty out of the box and the phone will recreate folders on the sd card when you start it up after reformat. You are correct that you will lose your personal settings if you delete sd card contents. If you don't care about personal settings and want to make the phone like out of the box, then I think you can just wipe everything. I don't know what you're trying to fix, but you could do a selective backup of the data you want to restore with Titanium Backup. Like messages, phonebook, pics, call log, voice mail, apps. Then make a copy of the backup on your pc, and put it back on sd card once it's reformatted and do restore. I would also make a copy of the entire sd card before reformatting.
Yeah that is correct, the memory card is empty, however the phone will recreate the folders, you may however need to recreate the Music Folder but Im not too sure as when my memory card failed, I was using a custom rom. however make your backup via titnanium or my preferred method, MyBackup Root, then back up all contents of the sd card on your computer, once you formatted your sd then just insert it back into the phone, wait a while and then mount to the pc to see whats there and whats not
Out of box sd is formatted and blank, phone creates folders it needs. Have deleted many of these by trial and error and phone just recreates them on reboot.

I encrypted all my files on my external SD card.
I then wiped and installed a new ROM.
Now i cannot read the files on my SD card.
Is this because it was all encrypted under the old ROM?
As far as I know the phone creates a unique key for the encryption, so you couldn't read the sd card in another phone. By changing the Rom you've effectively changed phone, so the sd card is locked.
Either format the card, if you don't need the data, or restore an earlier nandroid (if that will recreate the key) to access the card again if you need the data.
Hello,
I have a Samsung galaxy s2 with 4.1.2.
The external SD card (and only that) was encrypted.
I did a factory default and now it mounts the external sd card but it doesn't ask for the password. I can see the name of the files but not access them.
How can I access my data ? I know the password, it's the same phone. The automotically backup to google account was on, but I don't know it it backup up the key or something.
Anyway, I am a big fan of Linux (I am using ONLY Linux for more de 10 years) and Android, but if I lost my data from the external sd card this Android OS is a mess, it's even a big danger for a the user.
Why:
- this is not encryption. The external card should be unencryptable even after the os reinstall, factory defaults etc if the pin password is known and the same hardware is used (this should not benecessarily).
So tell me please that I can access my data !
Thank you
Dear,
I've encrypted my phone and SD card with a password, then I've restore factory mode my phone.
After that, my SD card appear as blank and needs to be formatted.
How can i access it and restore data?
Noe: I do have the password but dunno how to use it!!!
Thanks
Hello,
I made factory reset but didn't decrypt SD card before. SD card was ejected before reset, so I have all the datas, but cannot open them.
I tried with the procedure I found on internet:
- saving the encrypted data
- format the SD card
- encrypt of it
- copy of the saved content back to the SD
- decrypt
It didn't change anything.
Is there any chance that I may recover my photos and videos if I don't have any backup?
Best regards.
