I just noticed the description on the S3 i9300 device page says it has wireless charging - does it secretly pack this feature?
Nope. It doesn't have this feature only if you add it yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyC37pHCVgE
I thought so! Maybe the description should be updated.

You need to purchase a Qi wireless charging receiver which needs to be placed at the back of the battery. It will be thin enough to fit between your battery and back cover.
Now if you placed the phone on a wireless charging pad the phone starts charging wirelessly.
I have used this on my phone.

Ok so I know many people are waiting on wireless charging. My question is, is wireless charging already here just sitting under our nose?
I haven't found any threads talking about this, so I apologize if I am wrong, but the NFC antennae is built into the battery. Could this also be the wireless charging ability unleashed by a powermat?
From: http://www.itproportal.com/2012/03/23/update-duracell-powermats-wicc-power-matters-alliance/
"Duracell Powermat's key message is that adding wireless charging is now easier than ever before. The wireless charging functionality could be built directly in the battery, as a WiCC card inserted by the manufacturer in the phone or available as an off the shelf after market accessory."
They have also shown their WICC card in the S2, so we know they are pals with Samsung. Also, Powermat has kept saying "coming this summer" for their new line of products. Perhaps the "delay" with the wireless charge kit for the S3 is actually a delay on the part of Powermat getting their new product line.
So I ask, once again...If you set the device on a powermat as is...does it charge?
No comments to this? I thought someone would at least have a powermat to squelch any thought of this I had.

That's a fantastic question and would love to know myself.
I suspect the two pins to the left of the battery are for the wireless expansion. You could be right through.
Any update on this?
These are going really CHEAP http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360471423929&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123
ADC
it could be on the optional back cover , the two pins are for the connections , also there are claims that it can charge further away then sticking it on the dock or charging mat , i find it quite pointless if charging has to stationary , i rather just plug it in into my charger
The two pins next to the battery seems a good shout. Means Samsung can sell compatibility battery doors.
Anyone got a schematic and know how to follow the PCB wiring to see if the pins feed the charging circuit?

No, NFC is not used for wireless battery charging.
It's already been discussed and modded using a Palm Touchstone here:

Anybody see any wireless charging receivers yet? like the patch one? I am not sure I feel like adding the bulk of the full back plate to the phone. I have never tried these and wonder if the work as well.

Samsung is rolling out a wireless charger for the note 3, you would only have to change the back cover of the phone with one that supports wireless charging.

Wireless charging pad and back cover both in stock here:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...s+Charging+Pad
I have purchased from TigerDirect - many years ago - and they were reliable then. I presume the same is true now... They are I the US and have been in business a long time... I just ordered two charging docks from them.
Note: I have already ordered the wireless charging back cover from Verizon because I actually prefer OEM products and wanted to make sure it was from Verizon as I have the Verizon phone so I know it will be true OEM and work flawlessly...
There are already two other threads discussing wireless charging that could answer you questions:

Hello all,
I had the nexus 4 before and moved to galaxy s3
So I have the new device for like a week now.
When I had the nexus 4 I used to charge it wirelessly with this charger:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Qi-Wireless...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item5d44f9545c
when putting the s3 on top of the charger It doesn't charge.
Am I missing something?
Should I enable anything on the s3 in order it to charge?
Please advise,
Thanks.

Never seen them on General or Q&A in this forum .
A 10 second Google search shows I9300 wireless charging with a purchased receiver that is fitted on top of the battery .
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Qi-Wirele...msung-Galaxy-S3-S4-SIV-Note3-UK-/161202421437
Does not come with the receiver out of the box.
It goes between the battery and the battery cover, you can see the contacts next to the battery.

Does the charger acknowledge the presence of the phone? I once had an issue with the contacts of the charging coil not lining up with the phone's receptacles. I could hear a *beep* when placing my phone on the charger, confirming my charger was communicating with the charge coil, but the phone didn't start charging. Peeling the charge coil from the back cover and realigning it with the receptacles fixed the issue.
The S3 does not come with the "receiver" you have to purchase one, and as JerseyFF stated it goes between the battery and the back cover.
Search ebay, I'm sure you will find them.
I have been wireless charging my S3 for the last year...
Hi all,
I'm posting this in case anyone else purchases this gear and thinks they can use it like the original battery that comes with the Note 3.
There is another post in this forum that talked about a 50% off code until June, so I bought this:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EB-K800BUWESTA
Even with shipping/tax, it only came out to ~$31. I thought great deal.
It arrived and I noticed that you can't use it like you would the original Note 3 battery where I stuck a Qi-enabled sticker on it and could use it to wirelessly charge my spare battery when the main one runs down, figured I'd just buy another Qi-enabling sticker.
Thing showed up and it's NOT Qi-compatible. Meaning, it has no contacts on it that let me attach a Qi sticker. Not sure if it's by design that way but just thought I'd provide a heads up in case anyone else is looking to buy this.

There is two ways to do this,
1 modify the unit to support qi by adding a receiver inside.
2 use a USB receiver or a USB dongle.

1. Are you planning on opening up the battery to do this? Sounds like a lot of work and possibly ruining the battery if you screw it up
2. If you use a USB receiver, aren't you then completely ignoring the point of having wireless charging? I don't think I understand #2 completely.

1 you can open the battery charger that come with the battery and put a qi receiver inside, the battery charger then can be placed on a home transmitter.
2 connect a USB qi receiver through the USB port on the battery charger.
If you actuall want just the battery with qi built in, it's only available for the S3, S4 and note 2, if it's not qi, but supports wireless charging, other batteries are available for older phones models.
Hi guys. I bought my G3 few months ago. Its not a new one, I bought it as second hand but condition is 99,99%.
As the information I got from the seller its D855 Vodafone - International.
So my question is as those images i shot on my back case is this true that my phone can use with a Qi charging pad right away now or not?
Because after searching through the net, I didn't find any information about Qi charging relate to G3 Vodafone.
The receiver on my back case has 4 pins (as I know 2 is for NFC, and the other 2 will be for Qi charging).
The problem is I went to other shop (not really a shop, this guy just shipped items from China), he was selling some Qi charging pad. I put on 1 pad there but nothing happen, try many angles but still the same.
So whats the problem, my phone or his pad?
And here my back case. Thanks for your feed back and sorry for my bad English:
Yes, it should work.
If it doesn't work with the Chinese charger it's because the charger...

Make sure the golden square hits the ones on the back of the phone
Is there anyway i can get qi wireless charging on my f400s by buying a back cover which supports qi?
Qi works out of the box
Yes your G3 should be Qi compatible out of the box...I have a Panasonic, and Nokia Qi Charger, and they start working about 2 seconds after I place them on the charge pad.
Just FYI, the G4 on the other hand isn't Qi Compatible out of the Box...Go figure, I guess Quick Charge 2.0 is the better standard...=(
