On my Nexus 9, in the Google Play Store, when I try to watch the demo video for any app, it will only play about 1 second of the video. Anyone else have this problem? Please reply either way. I would like to know if its working for anyone else.
Thanks!
Same for me. I first thought it was WiFi sucking, but its too consistent, its a bug on n9, works fine on my nexus 5.
Thanks. I thought the same thing and I have also tested on the same WiFi with my Nexus 5, both running Android 5.0.1 and it works on Nexus 5. Anyone know if this has been reported?
Ditto. Nexus 7 on Lollipop. Same issue. Tried all the normal debugging methods with the play store and video players.

Ditto on Nexus 9 here also.
I have the issue on my Shield Tablet running 5.0.1
I went into the developer options and unticked use Nuplayer, rebooted, that got it working for a while before it stopped again.
Ticking and unticking that box now has no effect.
Nexus 9 on 5.0.1
I see I am not the only one that has this issue. I did notice that if you hit the settings icon lower right corner of the screen. You have an option to select quality which doesn't seem to stick. But it also has a youtube link that if you tap, takes you to the youtube app and plays the video just fine through the youtube app itself.
Also when listening to music through the google play music app, when it has an option to play the music video, the same thing happens .
I have tried messing with the NuPlayer and AwesomePlayer, rebooting etc. and can only get 1 video to play before its back to not playing again.
I saw that a similar issue was reported to google where no videos could be played but this seems different? Can anyone confirm if its the same or different? and/or if google is working on a fix?
Exact same issue here on Nexus 9. Videos play for about half a second then stop. This happens in Google Play store previews, and Google Music videos. I have tried everything, including restarts, clearing cache, deleting/reinstalling all related apps, adjusting Nuplayer setting, and even factory reset. My Nexus 5 has no problems, so it's clearly a Nexus 9 bug. I tried contacting Google and they gave me the typical 'turn your tablet off by holding the power button for a whooooole 2 seconds....' response. I'm a long time Nexus fan, but I do get tired of these bugs.
Anyone found a solution?
It's not just a Nexus 9 problem, I'd already posted it doesn't work on my Shield tablet and I upgraded my old N7 2012 to 5.0.2 yesterday and it doesn't work on that either.
I don't think there is any solution sadly.
Just uninstall latest youtube update from playstore and it will work fine again.
Stupid google didn't fix this issue yet.
Wow, uninstalling youtube updates actually did work! Thanks!
Worked for me too, thank you
Yup Really puzzles me why google didn't fix this yet.
My back cover was also flexing a bit around middle and upper right (when looking from the back side). That was a pretty easy fix. Now its solid as a rock. If anyone has that problem I could upload a fix on youtube.
Besides above problems, I absolutely love this device.. Imo it's hand down the best android tablet to date, despite these flaws.
If you upgrade to YouTube v10, this will also fox the problem.
If you don't see the update in the Play Store you can download it from APK Mirror.

Yes, I can confirm this. Installed latest YouTube update from the Play Store (10.03), now demo videos play fine.
Sent from my Nexus 9
Sooo, I got Assistant on my G5 and it's making me very angry. I can no longer use OK Google to play music from my Play Music library. It always just searches and plays the command as a song from the radio portion of the app. Even if I specify "Play the album ___", it looks up the album name as a song. I can even say "Play songname from library" and it ignores the "from library" portion.
Anyone else run into this? It has completely ruined my commute and hands-free driving.
Not sure if this is a bug or a very dumb decision.
How did you got the assisstant already?

It is already available in select countries (and languages) for Marshmallow and Nougat.

It's a bug. We and many other got the same problem so wait for Google to release fix via Play services or Google app.
Sorry for the thread ressurection but I have been having this issue since I bought an original pixel XL two weeks ago. My wife's pixel was also fine but last night she noticed that it would completely ignore what was in the library and attempt to stream it instead. My Nexus 6p (Oreo) did not exhibit this problem either.
This is so frustrating. Like the OP, ruins the handsfree experience. I have spoke with tech support several times but suggest I send feedback (which I have). I'm hoping others are having this issue too.
searching this site for this exact problem. no matter what device now when you say ok google play Metallica - and justice for all or any album which is in my library it automatically will play the song on youtube or the radio stations in play music (you can choose which to open in the settings)
what is going on how can we change this??
Is anyone else having issues streaming with Google Play Movies & TV? I have the Mate 10 Pro and playing movies stutters every 5 seconds or so. I've also noticed the phone can reboot sporadically. Tried to watch a movie the other day and it rebooted 5 times.
Only in Play Movies & TV, all other streaming services are fine. Also, this issue persists even if the movie has been downloaded so it's not a bandwidth issue.
Cheers,
Kris
Update:
Huawei just pushed an update which included improvements to video playback in the changelog. After installing it, I no longer have issues with Google Play Movies.
Yes. I got my Mate 10 (not pro) today and have exactly the same issue. Any ideas?

I spent some with Google support yesterday. Tried all of their solutions including playing movies in the YouTube app as an alternative and nothing worked.
They recommended I contact Huawei.
Will do. Cheers. Damn...
Hi, just steamed a movie and didn't have any issues.

Do you have the regular or the pro? Which app are you streaming with?

I've got a Mate 10 Pro and used the Google Play Movies app.
What country are you in and what firmware are you rocking? I'll take this info to Huawei.

It might do. I'm in Australia running BLA-L09 8.0.0.118(C34). So we've both got the 128GB/6GB variants but different software. I'll be sure to let Huawei know yous is fine. Thanks :good:
Happy days!!! Huawei just pushed an update which included improvements to video playback in the changelog. After installing it, I no longer have issues with Google Play Movies.
Problem with rebooting stays
Same problems with rebooting while playing Google movies, Okko movies. No problems with Netflix.
Google support (and call back, and chat) could not solve the issue and advised to contact Huawei.
Tried steps:
Turning off automatic time zone;
Turning on automatic time zone;
Resetting the phone;
Removing updates for Play Movies;
Removing updates for Google play services;
Reinstalling Play Movies;
Reinstalling updates for both play movies and play services;
Restarting the phone;
Clearing cache and data for play movies and play services;
Checking that phone has enough space, deleting unused files and apps;
Deleting and re-downloading the movie;
Adjusting to different screen ration (1:16 to 1:18 for Huawei Mate 10, for instance);
Turning phone in airplane mode;
Turning off Bluetooth;
Turning off sim cards;
Turning off nfc.
I'm looking for a solution for a video playback problem my LG-H930DS (SEA) has after the 8.0 Oreo update. When I start the phone everything is working well, but after a few minutes of normal usage the built-in videoplayer cannot play video recordings made by the phone itself. It says "Cannot play video - This file type is not supported" Then I have to restart the phone to get it working again. But it fails nearly every day. I wouldn't mind this failing because I can choose a different app to play the gallery videos, but the problem is that Snap-chat videos fail to play as well when this happens, until next restart. That's the bug I cannot have. Also when the phone gets into the state of not playing videos, the ringtones and alarm clock make no sound.
To start the problem I only have to open a few random web pages in chrome, open the gallery a few times, play some videos , and in a few minutes of this usage video playback crashes. MX player, VLC and youtube still work though.
I have done a lot of troubleshooting for this problem:
Full restore of the phone
Flashed different firmwares, H930DS20b, H930DS20d, and the european variant H93020d
Tried with no apps installed, other then preinstalled ones
Tried it in safe mode
But the problem always remains.
I always use the same google account. And after upgrading to 8.0 the problem does not seem to start until I restart the phone for the first time, after that it's constantly failing. Don't know if it starts when the memory gets close to full or not, but nothing else is failing on the phone.
I have now downgraded my phone to the Android Nougat 7.1.2 (H930DS10d) and this problem is not there, no matter how hard I try to replicate it.
I can only find one link on google where this problem is reported. (problem #6)
I have contacted LG Support, and they had never heard about this, and wanted me to send my phone in for repairs. But I'm not willing to pay for shipping from Europe to Asia, if this is just a software problem.
Is someone else getting this problem, or does know a fix or a workaround for it? Or is there a way for me to view the errors the phone is running into?
Sorry for the long post, hope someone is willing to read it and give me a little help
I finally found out what the problem is. It's actually just media files in the storage I use every day. These files only contain audio, but have the extension .ts. Video playback on the phone fails because the gallery is trying to create thumbnails of them to display. The workaround for the problem was to place a .nomedia file in the folder containing those files, to hide them from the gallery. After that the problem stopped. I've been using these files for years, and it has never been a problem until Android 8.
have you tried some other video player?
stock one is quite basic and thin.
Hi, yes I do use another players, but the gallery is failing video plaback in snapchat and stopping ringtones and alarms from working aswell, without using the stock player.
Same problem here with LG V30
I have the same problem with my phone I have the T-Mobile V30 and I have the same issue. I figured out not to take videos in 4k [email protected] works fine. But the moment I create a video at 4k it either starts playing and stops midway with sound continuing to play with frozen picture or it just says it doesn't support the video.
I've been using LG phones ever since the G2 and never had any other phone or any problems with them. This one though is getting really annoying.
I hate these Q&A format threads with a passion. I wish people would just open regular threads...

Have you tried other video players like VLC, MXPlayer?
Yes sir I did many players and VLC is always on all my devices and it also gets stuck. I'll try the .nomedia file and see how that works
And I have a problem with the smoothness of video playback in gallery, whether it's a bluray movie in mp4/mkv FHD format, or from camera in FHD or in 4k is always on Android 8.0 I have a delicate jam, how would he lose single frames every 0.7sec ~ 0 , 25sec. I came back for testing on 7.1.2 and it is perfectly smooth always, as soon as I updated to 8.0 version 20d or the latest 21h there are jam ... how b was an oreo error, quite a few friends did not catch up with this problem, I'm a perfectionist and I look at every detail whether it's a video or sound, that's why I chose the highest model of the phone.
LG releases more patches (already 4) and as soon as it appears oreo are staples. You can see that this is a pfroblem with support for video caps because MX Player also has micro jams on the hardware codec.
Interestingly, youtube is fluid.
I only hope that the Android Pie will be improved.
I'm having the same problem as well please let me know when you will find the solution to this problem of smoothness of video
At first it was running smooth AF but after some time i noticed the problem after 1 day of use.
Reseting the phone didnt work.
