I want to disable the stock notification panel on my s3 mini, 4.1.2 rooted. Instead of it, I'd like to use a 3rd party app, which suits better my needs.
I've read something here on xda about editing the "tw_status_bar_expanded.xml" file within the SystemUI.apk (that thread was discontinued/closed) but I don't now what editor should I use to do this (I've tried two but without success - the error was something like "could not edit a binary file"). Does someone know how to do this? Or there is a simpler method to disable the notification panel?
All the best!

I love the notification toggles... but hate the fact that Samsung forgot to put in any method to customize these!!
So instead, I'd like to use one of many apps in the Market to give me notification toggles (Wigetsoid or Notification Toggle in the Play Store comes to mind). That way I can customize them exactly as I like...
BUT... the original touchwiz will still be there.
Is there a simple method to remove that bar, such as perhaps removing an APK, or editing a non-compiled config file somewhere?
I'm currently rooted using Blazer's ROM (1.6), and I'd rather not suggest for him to remove it from the ROM as I'm sure there are a lot of people perfectly happy with the way it is.
If anyone has an easy method to remove it, please speak up

This is a great tutorial.
Rocking T2 on the S3 (V)
I've searched and found a lot of info on modifying the notification bar, but have been unable to find anything that tells me how to make an app that modifies the actual notification window. Does anyone know where I would look for the APIs/code to do this? I'd prefer my app not require rooting to do this, but if that;s the only way, that's OK.
I'd like to do this in Android 4.1/4.2.
Hey everybody,
So I got Cyanogenmod 11 (the latest nightly) on my Nexus 5, and I use Nova Launcher Prime.
What I am trying to do right now is to get rid of the navigation buttons at the bottom completely (instead I use Pie Control)
So far I am using the expanded desktop mode, however, that doesn't work nearly as good as I hoped it would.
The problems are that a transparent NavBar appears quite often, when I use the keyboard they reappear and take space.
So far I tried to solve it with different launchers (but without success).
I tried to use apps like ultimate dynamic NavBar or GMD auto hide softkeys. All they do is put another layer of Navigation Buttons on top of the already existing Nav Bar (no idea why that happens).
I also tried to use Full!screen, and that worked pretty nicely, but the problem was that it always also disabled the status bar (which I want to keep).
I am that far and out of ideas, anyone who could help me?
Many thanks in advance
Open your root Browser and navigate to System > build.prop . Open the file, scroll all the way down and add this line: qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 OR remove this line if existing: qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
I do not guarantee for the first method^^ If none of them works or this is to difficult download "SoftkeyEnabler" from the Play Store (you can disable them with this app).

The first method works well on Nexus 5
What is the filename and path for the S5 phone apk? I want to theme my friends phone apk for him.
Also, how are you guys getting rid of S=Finder from the pulldown?
i think all the apk files should list under system/app folder and to get rid of S-Finder from pulldown, just install Xposed G-Touchwiz.
You didn't give us enough information to really know what you want.
There are several phone packages e.g. the dialer and the in call screen
/system/priv-app/SecTeleService.apk
/system/priv-app/InCallUI.apk
For S-Finder, you didn't tell us if you meant removing it from the user defined set of Quick Notification toggles.. or permanently remove it. Or if you meant the quick search window. Lots of threads on all of those, so a forum search is always the best place to go first.

Hi Guys, My phone has any annoying camera shortcut on the lockscreen I keep swiping accidentally, I would like to remove it, my phone is a Nubia running lollipop, its a customised UI so xposed apps/root apps that can change the lockscreen don't work for me.
I have decompiled the systemUI and found the areas where the shortcut is, but I cannot get rid of it, adding visibility gone to the line did nothing, removing the line completely gave a crash and trying to make the camera shortcut have the same target as the unlock also made it crash.
Anyone provide any help?
this file is called "keyguard_bottom_area.xml

this is called lockscreen_host_view.xml
