If I'm not in the right forum here feel free to let me know mods, but is anyone else finding that their included Micro USB cable is falling apart, mine is already deteriorating around the Micro connector to the point I can see the metal inner cable. Worth checking as mine is only 2 weeks old.
Any Verizon employees out there care to say what they think I need to do on this one? Anyone else?

I'd go to Verizon and ask for a replacement. The only usb cable of mine that has ever happened to is an Apple cable, and thats because I take it everywhere.
Yea... I'd try taking it to Verizon, and try to get it replaced. Even if you get them to, I'd still recommend buying a cheap cable off ebay (China ftw) lolz. Always nice to have a spare around!
Hi,
I recently replaced my usb flex cable, and my signal has been very weak ever since. I have tried loosening the screws and removing the small wire (aerial) and putting it back on, but my signal is still very very poor. Has anyone else had this problem after disassembly?
It may not be relevant but i'll mention it anyway. The screwdriver I used had a slight magnetic charge, just enough to pick up the screws. Could this have damaged something?
I'm on O2 UK and have tried other O2 aims, but to no avail. I have also tried my sim in other phones and signal improves greatly. I noticed it instantly after reassembling the phone so whatever has changed, happened during the course of replacing the usb flex cable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing the signal to be so consistently weak? Would it be worth replacing the wire antenna?
I have taken this apart and put it back together countless times, trying to see if there was a loose connection etc, but have had no luck so far. I even put a bit of folded tinfoil between the usb flex cable and the contact under the battery to try and help the connection. I've completely run out of ideas.

I think you just disrupt the antenna. Sending it to a customer service repairs should be a good choice

As I bought it from Ebay IE, I have no warranty, so will have to pay to have it repaired. i was hoping to have a go myself, however there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of information out there regarding this problem. I have found a replacement antenna for £3 so I might try that, however I'm not sure that is the problem as the antenna looks in good condition and was only disconnected briefly.
Edit: Oh and thanks for the reply
send it to service center...

I'll probably have to take it to my local electronic repair shop as it is not under warranty. i was really hoping to avoid this as I'm not sure what they will charge :-/

Thanks, but it wasn't an app that caused the change, so I am reluctant to use an app to try and work around a proper fix.
Having read awful reviews for my local repair shop, I have just purchased a replacement antenna to try and repair it myself. It cost £3.00 so I'll fit it as soon as it arrives. If that doesn't work I will HAVE to take it to be repaired :-(

I had same problem as you.
After changing USB flex PCB my network signal just vanished.
Fortunately I found solution for my problem.
Problem was in slightly different PCBs and after unsoldering one SMD element my phone is back with strong signal.
Anyway here are the pictures:

Original PCB is upper one

Thank you!
This worked like a charm!!! Thank you so much for your post! Save me so much money.....

I have the same problem...
How did you remove the SMD?
Magnetic screwdriver
Just FYI, magnetic screwdrivers do not cause any damage to electronic circuits and are generally safe to use.

Soldering iron with really pointy tip
Top man.......
Usb port broke so replaced it and had a very weak signal. after hours of checking everything, flashing roms, taking phone apart, 3 different usb boards and a massive headache. I followed your guide and now have strong signal again. Was nearlly at a point where phone was going to be scrapped. Thankyou

You are a life saver! I was about to trash my S2. I got it used with usb and sound problems for about 130 euro. Swapped parts but had crappy signal. The signal was bad before to which I also bought new antenna. Network signal never worked properly since acquiring the phone 2 weeks ago. Swapping modems never helped.
I still have the old USB board and it looks like exactly like the one I replaced. Thinking of the same thing you just did. Now my question to you, why didn't you remove the other SMD to make the boards match? I might try removing both on the old to compare signal levels.
Your info should be stickied!
Thanks again!
Tried that Trick but now I dont have any more signal at all...nowhere!
So I got this strange problem where my phone stopped charging. I tried diffrent cables, adapters, charging it while being off, charging it via the computer and even tried to adjust the little lip in the micro usb port. Is the charging board dead? If it is, will a replacement be expensive?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
Well dude I think your assumption is right.
It might be the charging circuit only which may be dead.
Because as you told that you have tried diffrent cabels and chargers but still your charging is not working which means that the usb micro port through which we charge and connect our phone to computer is damaged and should be replaced .
There are many possible reason of damaging usb port like you may have drop your phone or by using faulty cabels and chargers or if u have rooted your phone then there is possibility of changing the voltage of current to more than 1000 Mhz etc etc.
You should try to flashed a complete stock rom by downloading from sammobile or directly using kies to update or re-flash your phone
you can try that may it may help you.

Nah, it won't turn on because the battery is empty.. I don't have a spare so it seems buying a new board is my only hope..
I saw there are loads of micro usb connectors on ebay. If I solder a new one on. Might that help?

You can try micro usb port which is available on ebay but it would be extremely very dangerous until and unless you know what you are doing.
My suggestion is to give your phone to the samsung care and tell then to repair it.
If your phone is in warranty then they will do it for free. You just need to provide them a copy of bill at the time you purchased s3.
Press THANKS if I helped you

Hey, I ran into a funny/dumb situation. I was on a trip and broke my micro usb port on the S3 and it was crucial for me to use the phone that couple of days (it was drained) so I found out that I can pin the wires from a regular USB cable (+ and -) out of my laptop to my battery while it was in the phone so it worked for a few times i got the charge. But then after the 5th(ish) charging the phone is not switching on... Yeah, I know, I probably fried my main board on the S3. The question is, is it worth to get it fixed? I really liked that phone though, I was not planning to change it until the S6 came out or something. Is it just waste of money and I should look out for a newer one or can fix it for a reasonable price?
Could you suggest something guys? Would really appreciate your help.
Thanks.
New motherboard is more expensive than a second hand phone would be.
My charging port is fake, sometimes it doesn't load and sometimes the PC doesn't recognize it until I connect it several times.
I want to buy a new connector, but an original one and a copy appear on Ali.
Something appears in the comments that you could have problems with the signal.
anyone know anything else about it?
Wouldn't it matter if I buy the copy?
Please go for original if possible, don't buy a copy, it will create more problems in the near future. Go to a service center to get it replaced.

You're right, better to be safe
Unfortunatelly I've same issues like Arielxander, my connector seems to become worse - my phone is already 4 years old.
I'd like to change the charging PCB.
Does anyone know where I can get a good spare in Europe (Austria)? What I have to take care for? Do all spares support fast charging?
Thanks in advance
I do have one of these fake but never used it. thanks for the info better throw it away.
