Downgrade OF1 to OC1 theories - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I've been able to downgrade firmware in the past by removing knox from the odin flashable tar file except for now I think samfirmware.com didnt sign the OC1 boot image when I go to flash through odin it hangs on boot.img then fails and gives me an error that says secure check failed. I've done some research and seem to find this error means the boot.img isn't signed. Would it be possible to flash any boot.img that I made unsecure meaning always root in terminal. To root OF1 firmware
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app

Nope. qfuse or similar was blown.

I've done it, I will be able to downgrade from OF1 to OC1 then root from there doing this all from my new raspberry pi 2 model b running raspbian. All i have to do is remove knox bootloader and flash boot.img, recovery.img, system.img.ext4, userdata.img, and cache.img with heimdall. did a test by just flashing the oc1 boot.img and was successful without tripping knox then flashed boot.img for OF1 firmware and phone boot back to the stock OF1 rom. will keep everyone updated it might be a little hard with only 2.9 GBs to work with (thanks raspberry pi sdcard-_-) im waiting on my 2.5 ssd to usb adapter(china)

I could make an Odin package later tonight that will accomplish this as well if you believe users will use it.

Anybody with OF1 bootloader willing to test?
The Odin package I have is the exact same as Exroid method with Heimdall.
Only a little but simpler for those that don't like commandline and prefer to use Odin.

I am. Tired of not having root.

Heimdall is obsolete, use Rwilco tutorial to create your own odin flashable tar. heimdall is garbage.

Heimdall is very useful in its own way.
And making our own odin flashable tar has already been done just hasn't been working.
Still looking at possibilities but doesn't look good.

Thats sad... Its a problem when you never had root in OC version and a rollback to OC is not possible. I would like just to install Cyanogenmod but i could not figure out a way so far to install a recovery mod to flash it.

Corrupted Bootloader?

I've been having issues with my phone stopping at the Samsung screen when I do a gattery pull. It has gotten to be more and more often. I've wiped and formatted everything but the story is the same: when I install a ROM it works the first boot. After that it gets hung on the Samsung Screen.
What can I do?
Need more info. What base are you on for starters.

mdk is the only other base you can run a custom recovery. So you must be loki'd on it. Have you tried reinstalling a clean mdk image thru odin and resetting up from scratch??

Can I download the MDK .tar and put it in ODIN? I cannot find any information on doing this and don't want to make anything worse (if that's possible).

I would think so if that is the base of the phone and I'm sure a mdk tar is somewhere in this forum to be DL
Provided your bootloader is MDK, I would attempt to find a no-wipe MDK odin tar and flash that. That way you won't lose data. If that works you are in the clear. Search around the forums and you should find a no-wipe here.

Speaking to the T-Mobile rep this morning the update evidently fixes a bunch of issues using SMS and MMS via the WiFi calling feature. My phone has issues with some people not being able to send SMS to me, and sometimes mine don't get sent. Only sometimes....odd.
Being a noob... is there a way to extract the files necessary to just update the firmware, without losing root and custom ROM?

I got tired of waiting for the bootloader file so what I did was install the full tar with pc odin .this will break root , to regain root I flashed the ne6 kernal , rooted with towelroot and then flashed the nk2 kernel. the kernel files and towelroot link can be found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-s5-firmware-knox-0x0-t2909352

Hey guys, my Boot.Img is not the bootloader that you are looking for. It is just the boot.img which is the kernel. That is why i created my tut on how to root when you have the latest complete firmware on your phone. Mobile odin will not flash certain files. Go to my thread and follow the steps and you will have all the files installed on to your phone and have root..
I flashed the full update via mobile odin which flashes everything but the bootloader. I've tried flashing yur boot file in pc odin like you said but it never sticks. I've done it twice.

please reread my other thread above yours about my boot.img is not the bootloader.tar that you are trying to install. It is just Boot.img which is only the kernel.
You will have to do either 1 of 2 things,
1- pull the files from the full stock nk2 and create your own bootloader.tar.md5 file
or
2- flash the full nk2 with PC ODIN 3.09 on your computer and then use my method to achieve root.
Ok, is there an easy way to make a boatloader tar?

yeah have a computer with linux and pull the files and create a folder and then use linux command lines to zip- pack- and create a tar.md5.
there might be other ways to do this, Search the forums and internet on exact process,
Okay my problem was that I didn't realize your tutorial was if you installed via pc Odin. Followed your directions and I'm good now. Only thing is when I opened up supersu it crashed, rebooted and then it worked however I never got the question on disabling know. Is there a way to check that it's still disabled?

have you installed a custom recovery or custom rom on your phone, if you have you might have all ready tripped knox and that is prolly why you did not get the prompt for disabling knox.

[Q] flashing bootloader from recovery?

so i have been trying to flash aboot.mbm from recovery,
i created my update zip and it seems to pass, but does not update the bootloader.
i tried everything i could think of (assert, package_extract, dd, write_raw_image) none of them fail in recovery but the actual bootloader doesn't update.
so now i'm wondering if that's even possible or it absolutely has to be done with odin.
any info would help.
I am fairly certain you can only flash bootloader using Odin.
I don't remember seeing any update.zip file to flash them on this device.

I pulled the stock OTA i received and was looking at the updater-script:
assert(package_extract_file("aboot.mbn", "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot"));
tried that as well and got the same result with twrp and philz, says passed but doesn't actually flash. is it a matter of signing the update.zip or is it the recovery that has access to the protected partition?
also this is just a learning experiment for me, don't want to be wasting any of the devs valuable time, but i do appreciate all the help.
edit: i do not use my G900T as a daily driver and do not mind it being a guinea pig for any experiment anyone would like to try, you can just let me know and ill be happy to help.

yes i have added all the partitions, i took them from the TAR (aboot.mbm rpm.mbn sbl1.mbn sdi.mbn and tz.mbn).
i got all the commands from the stock OTA and still got that it flashed successfully, but it really doesn't allow me to write them that way.

Stop Lollipop update in reboot?

My S4 was rooted on KitKat and working just fine. I used the Odin App to downgrade, root, and go back to NK1, so no custom recovery.
I should have frozen the update popup but I was going to do the update using Flashfire so I could keep root. in the process of downloading the Rooted Lollipop rom and apparently I accidentally clicked the update button when the popup caught me by surprise. I got the case off and the battery out just as it was booting up to install the update! AH! Is there any way to stop it now? Or am I screwed?
Thanks for the help!
Have you tried an ODIN image? If you've been snooping around recoveries, Safestrap would've been a good option to make a nandroid. Other than that, I'd be out of ideas. AFAIK download mode should be able to be accessed.

you may have to flash nc5 full wipe tar and the pit file in surges thread and then root via towelroot and then flashfire the rooted oc1 rom.

[ROM] OF6 FULL tar.md5 file Odin Flashable only

i managed to get the OF6 sprint full rom file through kies.
this is only to be flashed using odin in the ap slot.
you will probably lose root and your custom recovery.
you may be able to root it and restore the data . That up to you to try.
This is the Sprint version Only!
here is the link: if someone wants to provide a mirror that would be appreciated.
Disabling 'Reactivation Lock' from 'Security' in the settings allowed me to root and add a custom recovery (TWRP).

no you dont have to update and no it isnt necessary. but if you are on stock OA6 I would take to guess that this rom is 5 months newer with improvements in alot of areas. they claim its for factory reset protection (so someone cant steal your phone and just factory reset it and it theirs now) and for reactivation protection (same thing so noone can reactivate the phone and make it theirs)
if i was on straight stock i would update. if i was on a stock rooted i would either try and root it or wait for someone to root the tar file and make it flashable through recovery.
thats my take on it.
cool... thanks. I like the security features, but at the same time I may wait till the new Moar comes out to do the work.

Yes. In fact, I did a full rom install, with nand erase all (after a bad flash), and I still went back to OA6 and OD3 stock deodexed roms.
Flashing TWRP from Odin works fine after flashing OF6 or OD3. I also used the CF one click root method, and that also worked for me.
Everything I did was in Odin 3.10.6.
Chainfires auto root makes odin complains about the recovery and shows 'fuse>3', which (I assume) means I've already burnt thru three of the 400+ fuses in the phone (kernel, recovery and probably rooting). I've tried odin 3.10.6 and the version that comes with chainfires auto root. Towelroot v3 says my phone isn't supported, even when using the command mod options.
I'll boot back into Windowz and try this a few more times. I don't see/know how joshdv rooted his phone...
edit: let's add insult to injury. I can't downgrade the firmware/OS to OA6, says it fails OS version.

Depends how long you're willing to wait and if you want to keep the warranty bit untripped.
If it doesn't matter, you can still flash custom recovery in odin and any one of the pre-rooted custom or stock roms that will run on the lollipop bootloader.
