So here is where I'm @:
Until a few days ago I had a custom ROM (cm12.1) running on my S3 I9300 International. I encrypted it weeks ago.
So now I decided to decrypt it. I did this by heading to the settings = Backup & reset and tapping the Factory reset option at the bottom of the screen.
What happened is that my phone rebooted and got stuck in the startup of TWRP recovery (so the TWRP logo keeps blinking, it doesn't get me into recovery).
So now my phone doesn't do anything. I only can get into downloading mode. Downloading mode says the following:
Odin mode
Product name: GT-I9300
Custom binary download: Yes (3 counts)
System status: Custom
So I downloaded Odin and started it. Odin sees my phone. I tried to install some stock firmware (don't know if this is the right solution), but it failed.
What can I do to get my phone operational again?
I really need some help. The did read the forums. But I'm no pro and i don't know what to do.

Explain in details how did Odin fail!
Sent from my Q10101 using XDA Free mobile app
I started Odin3 v3.10 and plugged in my phone. In box AP I added the md5 file (I9300XXUGOC1_I9300TNLGOC1_I9300BOUGNB1_HOME.tar.md5) and in the options menu I checked auto reboot and F. Reset Time. And hit the Start button.
After a couple of minutes Odin said something like FAILS.

Hi
You requested a screenshot about the Odin procedure. So I restarted Odin and retried to install the firmware, so that I could take some screenshots. It did PASS! this time. I have no clue why it failed last time.
When the phone rebooted after the Odin install, it gave a message that the partition was bad. So the phone did a reboot and fixed the errors. And now the phone works.
I installed a dutch T-Mobile firmware Android 4.3. So now I only have to root the phone to and install a custom ROM (ArchiDroid) once again.
I wanna thank you for replying and trying to help me. Much appreciated. What is you're opinion on what was wrong with my phone? What would be the technology name about the error

Who knows, so many things could have gone wrong. I never encrypted my phone so maybe you did something wrong when decrypting. As far as Odin's issue, there are number of things that could go wrong. Important thin is that it works now[emoji106][emoji481]

Hi all, I hope you guys can help as I'm coming up blank here after days of trying to fix this.
First, yes I read this thread and a few people were reporting the same problem but the solution was always to flash a stock firmware with odin.
Right now my wife's phone is stuck in a boot loop, she doesn't do anything out of the ordinary with it, I rooted it when she first got it 3 months ago and then flashed a stock kernel to get rid of the yellow triangle and it has worked perfectly until last week when she told me it was stuck at the galaxy s2 logo. No problem I though, I'll just flash a stock rom with odin and all will be well.
Well it didn't work out that way, I've flashed the original firmware, an ICS leak, Villainrom 1.1 and XXKI3 multiple times, with and without pit file + re-partition. I've flashed the old bootloader and I've tried a few custom kernels as well, and multiple combinations of the above. Nothing is getting it past the boot loop. The only result I've had that is any different to how I started is with an ICS build I got a screen saying kernel panic upload (or something like that, I don't have that rom flashed at the moment). When I connect at this time odin recognises the phone so I guess it's in download mode.
I can't get into recovery mode so I can't do a factory reset, when I press vol-up, home and power I get a blank screen for a moment followed by the same boot loop. I can get into download mode and odin is reporting successful on every flash. When I flash a custom rom or kernel I get the yellow triangle, it goes away when I flash a stock rom or kernel.
According to my wife just before the crash android market reported updates available and she installed them. I don't know if that's related or not but she says when she went back to the phone it had hung so she turned off the phone, upon turning it on it was stuck in boot (the big animated purple S part of the boot) so she removed the battery and since then it doesn't get past the initial galaxy S2 screen, sometimes, depending on which kernel it's on, the galaxy screen goes blank for a second or two and then the logo comes back.
I've really tried everything I can think to try, warranty isn't really an option as I'm in Saudi Arabia and I've been told it will take 3 months to get the phone back, also I can't easily access a jig, I'd have to make one and I'm not too confident in my ability to do that.
If anyone has any ideas at this point please help, I can't think of anything else I can do here.
tl;dr random boot loop, tried flashing everything I can find, no recovery mode but download mode works fine, help!

Flash a full wipe firmware and see if that helps, if you need one there is a link at the bottom of my insecure kernel thread.
Thanks Odia,
I just flashed the firmware at the bottom of your thread, I9100XWKE7_CL215725_REV02_user_low. Tried it twice for good measure.
Unfortunately nothing has changed on the phone, still can't get into recovery or past the galaxy s2 logo.

Have you tried with repartition and update bootloader ticked?
I didn't tick either of those this time but I have ticked repartition with a different firmware that came with a pit file. Do I need a pit file or can I tick repartition without it?

You need a pit file, use the 1 from the other firmware.
Ok, I just tried XWKE7 again with a pit file with re-partition ticked. Also tried flashing the old bootloader again with update bootloader ticked.
No change I'm afraid.

Most strange, look like your off to service
That's most unfortunate, I'm in Saudi Arabia and they have quoted 3 months to get the phone back under warranty although in reality I'd be lucky to get it back at all.
Are my options really exhausted or is there anything extreme I can try?
I ended up making a jig and took it for warranty repair and they were able to do it locally, it only took a few days.
The curious thing is even though I repartitioned several times using two different pit files the sdcard partition was still intact.
I'm pretty sure I was doing it right and the yellow triangle was coming and going as I was flashing stock and custom kernels so the flashes were taking.
I don't speak Arabic so I couldn't ask how they fixed it but what do you think was the problem? I was very surprised to find the data intact, it even had the same stock ROM that I flashed before I took it for service still installed.
Anyway thanks for your help in this thread odia.

Hi all!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which I since a week cannot start. It get stuck on the black/white samsung logo. I cannot enter recovery mode, nothing happens when releasing the power button after pressing volumeup+home+power buttons. I can however reach download mode. I'm not sure what caused this problem, one day I just couldn't start it. I read on forums that many similar problems seem to have occurred when upgrading android but I'm not sure this is the case here (unless the phone made an automatic update while I was asleep). I'm not sure what version of android I'm running, but I'm pretty sure it is at least the ICS.
I would like to hard reset my phone if possible. It seems to be easiest through the recovery mode which I cannot get into.. I read things about Odin, connecting the phone to the computer and downloading android to the phone but haven't quite grasped it. Could anyone explain this option for me or point me in the right direction? Are there other options?
I would appreciate any help, especially since my 1-year warranty expired a month ago!
Best regards,
Marcus

Sounds like the symptoms of a NAND RW corruption. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
Hi Marcus,
I had the same problem few days back.
If it's not broken by you trying something fancy, the best solution is to take it to service centre. If you have rooted your device, had installed some custom firmware or are not willing to visit the service centre for some other reason, please read ahead.
All I did was,
Installed USB connectivity drivers through Kies.
Installed ODIN 1.83
Ensured that Kies or any of its processes are not running in background.
Downloaded the official SGS2 firmware
Flashed the firmware through ODIN.
It took around 10 minutes for the full process and I was having my mobile up and running. Using ODIN sounds scary initially if you haven't used it. I have slowly started gaining confidence in it after using it a few times.
Please note that though the process is well proven to be safe, there is still an amount of risk involved.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Download a siyah kernel(like v4.0.1) .tar file and flash through odin.
See if that makes it boot/lets you into recovery.

both when trying to flash the recovery package and the kernel. Any clues?
mananbdesai: where do I find the "official SGS2 firmware"?
theunderlining: is it enough just to flash a new kernel or do I afterwards need to flash ROM too?

A couple of things..ensure KIES is not running on your computer in the background. If possible delete it completely. Also ensure your phone is connected to a USB port directly on the computer and not via a hub or to a USB port on a keyboard or something. Odin is a finicky s/w..so..
Also, try different versions. If v1.85 doesn't work try v3.4

Lol at underlining. if you flash a custom kernel like siyah, you'll be rooted and get CWM. Using that you can install a custom ROM.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
And youll be safe from the 4.0.4 brickbug if you flash siyah.
You flash a kernel for various reasons like it has emmc cap disabled, you can tweak it etc.
You can flash siyah kernel and stop there.Or you can move onto a custom rom.
Whatever, when its done-backup your efs and make a nand backup.
And yesterday I was downgrading my wifes phone onto 4.0.3.I was using odin and kept getting "failed".After 3 attempts I realised I hadnt put the phone into download mode..........how stupids that......lol
hi there, just wondering, after Flashing the stock firmware through ODIN, do you lose everything in your phone? i need to get all the notes that I have in my phone (notes from the samsung stock apps). I dont have any external sd card in the phone. thanks in advance for the reply.

Hi there sir,
Has the problem solved ? Care to share the solution ?
Thanks.
i had the same exact problem, i tried flashing with odin n stock firmware but stuck in NAND write start, i didnt try flashing with PIT & repartition though, i couldnt be bothered anymore, so i took it to samsung service plaza, they told me the problem is in the main PCB (hardware issue), so all they did was replace that n it got fixed! i didnt pay because it's still under contract/ carrier warranty

I had a similar problem, stuck at boot with Biftor v12, which happened after I tried to update SuperSU binary through CWM/TWRP. I don't know why it stuck at boot and why it wouldn't reboot to Recovery. Download mode was still working, so I had no choice but to flash new kernel through ODIN and see if it works.
So if your symptoms sound similar to mine, here's what I did to be able to boot again:
I REPEAT, SIMILAR TO MINE. MY SOLUTION MIGHT NOT NECESSARILY APPLY TO YOURS.
1. Download a suitable kernel in tar.md5 format. I used PhilZ-cwm6 v4.93.6 for XWLSN firmware (see OP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270)
2. Download ODIN, if you don't have it, found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539
3. Once installed, boot your phone in Download mode by pressing Vol Down+Home+Power together until you see a warning dialog. Press Vol UP to get into download mode.
4. Make sure ODIN is running, and NO KIES processes are running.
5. Connect your phone with USB cable to your PC.
6. In ODIN, you should see a COM port with yellow background.
7. Click the PDA button ONLY.
8. Select the kernel file you downloaded.
9. Press Start and nothing else.
10. If everything went as expected, your phone should reboot after a while with a working Recovery.
Only do the steps if you are absolutely sure. This worked for me, and I hope it gives some tips for your problem as well.

Hi Flash-IS-Bright
I have the exact same problem with SuperSU on my rooted Galaxy S2. I updated the SuperSU app, and when I opened it, it recommended me to update the binary, I selected the CWM/TWRP option and then my phone tried to reboot but is now stuck. It can only access download mode.
In doing the process above, you only flashed the kernel? Did this totally work? And all your apps/messages were left intact on your phone?
Any help is appreciated.

when ur updating the binary u should always choose the 'Normal' thing instead of the 'CWM/TWRP' one ma8
if u flash a kernel it will not delete anything on ur phone, all u have to do is to select the right kernel like 'Philz' for example (if ur on a stock JB firmware) and flash the same through 'ODIN' and reboot ur phone

Thanks for your help. I've originally had Jeboo 1.2 kernel on my phone and tried to reflash that again through Odin. It passed, however I'm still encountering the same problem of the bootloop.
Would flashing a different kernel help? I'm on stock JB firmware but with a Jeboo kernel. I am happy to try another kernel (if that would not brick my phone)
Do you have any other suggestions to help me solve this?
Again thanks for your help

You could try flashing hawkerpaul's kernel wiper first and then install another stock kernel like PhilZ or Apollo, and see if that helps.
Neat Rom lite, suddenly struck in boot loop after 1 month of operation.
Dear All,
I have installed the "I9100XWLSZ_NeatROM_Lite_v5.0.1" custom rom and after 1 month of successful usage, today suddenly the phone was dead.(probably due to autoupdates over wifi) . I tried to reboot, but didnt. Tried to restart but got stuck in the logo screen with yellow triangle.
Tried to enter recovery mode, but no use. Only download mode is possible.
Tried to flash the stock rom using odin, but no use, Nand write failed.
Can somebody help me how to come out of this situation. Shall I install a different kernal and see?
Regards,
Maka11
Been unlocked and rooted forever, had tons of ROMs loaded no issues at all. I sold my Note2 and in a rush went to flash it back to stock with Odin 3.07 and used this: ( KIES_HOME_I605VRAMC3_I605VZWAMC3_1098177_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 ) and followed this tutorial:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qtbEevn1VA&feature=youtu.be
I got into the boot loop like he did on the video but I can't get out of it. tried using the pit file he mentioned and that did not work and I tried to start over but no joy.
I was coming from a ParanoidAndroid 3.99 RC2. (4.3 if I recall).
There is no data on the phone, so I don't care how I get there I just need to be as close back to stock as I can get it, even if I lose root just want it working so I can give it to the person who bought it.
Thanks so much in advance. There appear to be a lot of options in terms of going back to stock but I am not sure what firmware/bootloader version that was on my phone, so rather than risk digging a bigger hole, I thought I would reach out.
I can get into Download without issue but that is it.
Odin mode shows SCH-I605
Custom Binary Download - NO
Current Binary - Samsung Official
System Status - Custom.
I try not to bug you all and have always been able to dig out of problems but I am low on time and don't want to try a solution that is not particular to my situation and make it worse.
Thanks so much guys, I appreciate it.

Use the pit file and the KIES VRAMC3 that you already have to go back. Wait until the process is done and Odin reboots your phone and says PASS. When it reboots your phone and says PASS, pull the battery, boot into recovery, wipe data and factory reset then wipe cache and reboot. Should be good to.

Duh, thanks dude, I appreciate it was silly and easy my bad.
do you
did you download the verizon software you get when you plug in your note 2 to your pc if so there is a repair mode put your phone into download mode and start it then you will need the pit file as for some reason when i have done this it boot loops but when its finished you will have a stock note2
The title should explain some of my problem. I have not met the owner of this device, he did something to his device and messed it up, he gave it to my friend, who couldn't fix it, and then gave it to me to fix. I have NO IDEA what they have done, what software version is was originally on, and what they tried to do to fix it. The owner doesn't know himself.
It won't boot up, depending on what firmware I decide to use, it either boots to the Samsung logo and gets stuck there, or says "Fireware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
It does have Odin installed an I've used versions 3.0.9 and 3.0.7 and 3.0.6. I have used the following firmware packages:
I605VRUEMJ9_I605VZWEMJ9_I605VRUEMJ9_HOME.tar.md5

I am worried I may have destroyed the device, I used the re-partition option multiple times with different combinations of firmware packages and Odin versions.
Odin on the phone says:
Product name: Sch-i605 (duh)
Custom Binary Download: no
Current binary: Samsung Official
System Status: official
(then in gray, don't know if that means anything)
Knox warranty void: 0 (Does this mean that he did the 4.3 update? or does this mean he flashed a rooted version of 4.3?)
Ap swrev: A2
Can you guys help me or is this to obscure? ( or did me re partitioning the device ruin my chances?)
Oh yes, I can't boot into recovery mode either, any ideas why?
At no point did you mention what the problem was or what the device is doing.

*facepalm* I'm so stupid....
Depending on what firmware I decide to use, it either boots to the Samsung logo and stays there, or says "Fireware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
Like I said, Odin is installed and I can't boot into recovery.
So sorry!
I'm having real issues trying to get a stock ROM on my Virgin Mobile S3 (GT-I9300) and I'm hoping you guys can help me. I've looked absolutely everywhere for a solution but so far nothing has worked.
OK so a little history about the problem:
Using phone as normal, and then randomly turns off. Turn it back on and I get the two Samsung splash screens loop booting constantly. I boot into recovery mode and do a factory reset - same problem. Clear the cache - same problem. Send phone back to Virgin and they tell me I've rooted and installed a custom ROM which I absolutely have not but they have a screenshot with the custom counter showing '1'.
I've no idea how this is possible, but I would have remembered if I'd installed a custom ROM. Anyway, they send it back because I'm not going to fork out £100 for them to flash it.
So...lots of research later, I download the latest Odin (3.09), find the most likely stock ROM that will work with my phone (Carrier is Virgin Mobile UK). I find this ROM on SamMobile: I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_BTU. Cannot for the life of me find an actual Virgin rom so this apparently should be fine as it's a generic EU build.
Fine, so I apply it using the AP selection in Odin, connect phone, it goes through and applies fine "PASS" etc.. and phone reboots automatically.
Now, it just sits at the Samsung splash screen (the static white text) and doesn't go any further. I've left it upwards of 10 minutes but no dice. So look online and find threads that suggest booting to recovery and doing a factory reset will do the trick. So try that (Power+volume up+home) and same problem - static splash screen. Balls.
So now I don't know what to do. I either need to try an actual Virgin ROM which doesn't seem to exist(?!) or my phone is truely bricked and I'll finally have a good reason to destroy the thing.
Can anyone let me know what the next steps should be? I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance.
I found the s3 to be a pain when doing a reset. Basically do it twice. Wipe, flash, wipe then boot. As far as I know btu is correct but virmin mobile used to rent their airspace from tmobile who are now half ee. Such a minefield..

When you say 'wipe' do you mean factory reset via recovery mode? Because I'm not able to access that. All I can get to is Download Manager to use with Odin...
I thought you said you could access recovery and you had cleared cache. In that case you are buggered. If it goes through the flashing phase and reboots but you still cannot get into recovery then you have 3 options..
1. Flash another rom but no lower than 4.3. Carrier shouldn't matter.
2. Full on flash with pit file (dangerous and can perma brick).
3. Return the phone under warranty and state that the flash counter also clocks official flashes too, samsung should know this as they make the phone.. staff need training if they say otherwise.

Try the rescue firmware from general forum, follow the instructions exactly as it includes a pit.
It sounds like nand failure, so it's possible that you won't be able to fix it.

Apologies for not being clearer, before sending it back to Virgin for the warranty repair I could access the recovery mode fine, when I got it back I couldn't - whether that was caused by the flashing of the firmware or something Virgin did I don't know unfortunately.

Thanks for the tip - I've flashed the stock recovery and I can now get into recovery mode! Looks slightly different but I can now access the factory reset/wipe cache options so that's some improvement.
I'm just downloading the stock international ROM as per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/fix-s3-to-factory-unroot-stock-recovery-t2323847 but it's going to take a few hours. Thanks so much for your advice so far i'll report back once the download completes.
No joy
I can however get into download mode and recovery mode now. Is there anything else I can try? Is it possible I can get a custom recovery image on there and flash it with something other than the stock rom?
I've got a feeling you're correct and it could be a hardware fault. Virgin say I can pay £100 to get it fixed, if they have to replace the entire phone that would prove it wasn't 'tampering' that caused it so I could potentially get my money back I guess, if I complained. I think that might be my only option now.
Ok I just booted into recovery mode and I was greeted with this error:
Any ideas what this could mean?

I say this to people who have this sort of problem but I mention the dreaded word and they tend to ignore it but will tell you what to try anyway.
Install Kies 3 for android 4.3 (there I said it Kies) on the top menu bar click Tools then Firmware Upgrade and Installation
Follow the on screen instructions, this process will wipe the phone and install the most up to date original carrier / phone firmware, after this the phone should work and you can then root, flash roms etc , it may work for you so try it, don't just dismiss it because it refers to the use of Kies

Unfortunately I've already tried Kies, and it doesn't recognise the device when in recovery mode.

Make sure you are using the USB cable supplied with the phone and it is connected direct to your PC USB port, ideally the ones on the back but don't connect through any multi USB port connectors.
The USB cables and how you connect can make a difference
