Just received the telephone the day before yesterday. Tried to get my HRM to couple to the device, to no avail. Looking into the problem with ANT+ tester, I discovered ANT HAL is completely missing (the ANT HAL service is present though)! WTF?
Sony advertises this phone as being ANT+ capable, but clearly it's not (yet!). I've contacted Sony about this, and are awaiting for their reply...

I'm about to buy this phone but the missing ANT+ support is stopping me to do so.
It is obvious that ANT+ support on Z5 series is missing. Neither the tech specs on the sony product page show ANT+ under connectivity nor the device list of the ANT+ consortium (http://www.thisisant.com/directory/) lists the Xperia Z5 devices. All previous Xperia devices were shown immediately after the release day on this list.
For me this looks like Sony has dropped ANT+ support. Maybe they try to make pressure on Garmin to lower the license cost for ANT+. Who knows.

That would be disturbing. But a bit strange though, since ANT+ tester shows full ANT+ hardware and ANT HAL service etc. being present in the phone.
Reply from Sony on my enquiry was of course to throw back more questions to me and giving stupid advice like "repair your phone with out PC Companion software". When I checked this suggestion, just out of curiosity, the Z5 series wasn't even supported in this software, can you imagine? Fail, fail, fail.
Yeah looks like they crippled/removed ANT+ support in the last minute before release, maybe they missed to pay the license I really hope ANT+ support will be added with the next update.

Well, here in the Netherlands I don't even get replies from the Sony reps anymore. I've been exchanging FB messages with support, but all they do is refer to this stupid PC Companion software, which obviously can't solve the problem (especially since my Z5c is going completely crazy when I try to connect it to Win10 through USB. It's impossible to get a stable connection with the computer)...
As a "solution" I've now bought a dual-band HRM strap (Bluetooth and ANT+ capable) which set me back another 60 euros. Still better than having to wait for Sony to fix the problem they've created themselves, because that can take a long while, if ever!

no update from sony yet, no ANT+ dedicated services installed by default
Surely the z5c is equipped with ANT+ h/w, just for whatever reason Sony haven't activated it into the current firmware... Correct? Or the device totally not equipped for ANT+?

I hope Z5 line is ANT+ equipped as per official specs but not enabled yet due to certification process not completed (as devices still not visible on thisisant website)
I have return mine today and asked for replacement (white unit)

Guys, everything you need to connect ANT+ device is here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dsi.ant.service.socket
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dsi.ant.plugins.antplus
and basic app to check if it works (assuming you have ANT+ device connected) is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dsi.ant.hrmon_antplus
AFAIR the same situation was with Z3C. I installed two first apps and connected my old Garmin HRM. With Endomondo (free) is working like a charm. You need only to activate in Endomondo options.

One of the features I'm looking to use on the Xperia Z Ultra is ANT+ wireless sensors for cycling. The specs for this phone state that this is a feature yet my new phone does not seem to have ANT+. Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks

Check the Play Market.
Yeah, I've tried installing the ANT+ radio service from the Play market but it will not work. I have an Xperia Active with ANT+ and it works perfectly and is easy to setup new connections.

I'm having the exact same problem... when I open mapmyride I can only see the sensor for BT Heatrate straps but nothing for Ant+
Specs for the new Xperia Z1 indicate that it also has ANT+. Hopefully Sony will enable this on our phones soon.

Hi Guys,
I'm also an avid cyclist using Garmin Ant+ heartbelt direct to my trusty old wornout Xperia S and also Xperia Ion too.
Many say BT4.0 LE still has cutoff issues, and Ant+ batt last forever in heartbelt.....
I understand from speaking to shops that the LTE version has Ant+, but many said the 3G version does not. The SnapDragon 800 does have Ant+ feature in chip, there was some debate if 3G version uses this chip. Sony really should fully enable these by firmware if possible.
PS: The bluetooth signal needs to be switched on to enable Ant+.
Hope any of you could provide your experience of workability or lack off, thanks.
Bump. Still no ANT+ after the .526 update.
If anyone with a new C6833 4G phone is able to test ANT+ functionality for me it would be greatly appreciated.
After seeing Xperia C4,Xperia C5 Ultra and now Xperia M5 got android 5.1 update out of the nowhere should we expect it on M4 soon?
Those phones should skip 5.1 and go directly ti 6.0 but Sony changed their minds...
Only M4 left on 5.0 for now...
Keep in mind that c4, c5 and m5 use same mediatek chipset so once 5.1 came for c4 it was matter of time to appear also for c5 and m5. Our M4 aqua uses qualcomm chipset so i do not expect 5.1 for it. It should be easier for sony to get 6.0 working on the qualcomm than on mediatek so i think that we will get directly 6.0 while c4, c5 and m5 will get it later than us and that's why sony released 5.1 for these models to calm down the owners. We will see.

Where did you get this information from?
Official the S6 and S6 edge will get 6.0 february/march. And for the M4 it says first quarter, so it's more likely end of march or second quarter
Never seen any real date for any Sony Xperia phones and marshmallow, so a month time for M4 is very unlikely. First of they need to roll it on z5 series, then the rest of the z series. And lastly on other Xperia models... I hope we get 6.0 before summer.

Also, people can get very anxious about UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE, but have you seen what's in these updates? Barely anything, from what I can see. Even the major updates from 5.0 to 6.0. How much of it is visible to the consumer?
Bug fixes (don't care)
developer tools (don't care, not releveant),
driver updates (don't care)
oh and they fixed the sound toggles that they broke in 5.0 that nobody liked. Wow, thanks!

When Android 10.0 comes out call me. Maybe there'll be something new.
In M4's case, we will get a possibility to use SD card as a phone memory, and considering the lack of space this phone has, marshmallow is a big thing...

In XperiFirm i see that there is a new firmware released for Denmark, Nordic and Baltic (E2303) 26.1.A3.93. Going by the number looks like the firmware could be 5.1.
has any one got the update, can any one confirm.
It's not 5.1. It is still 5.0, but my phone got 300mb extra free space. They have removed something. Haven't found what it is yet.
My FW is 26.1.A.3.92. Upgraded this morning through Xperia companion.

And I'm a consumer. Of course I get to evaluate the $300 products I buy and their support. "crappy post" doesn't make sense.

If it isn't relevant to you, why comment? There are always bug fixes and security fixes that do matter to a lot of people, whether you include yourself in that group or not is a moot point.

Why did I comment? Go back to the first post. The first post talks about ETAs for arrival of the next major Android update. The entire point of my comment, which you've apparently missed, was that I'm not convinced by anything I've read about the update that is a significant improvement from the customer standpoint, so I'm relaxed about the ETA. My point is valid, even if it's different to your's, or just because you don't understand. Moot that. There's nothing more useful for me in this thread so it's my final comment to you.
Does the Poco F1 have NFC (at least in europe)??? I read somewhere that it doesnt have NFC, which would suck, since Google Pay just started here in Germany...
As far as we've seen specs, they all indicate it doesn't come with NFC, I guess it's a small trade they made for a cheaper phone (small for me since I don't use it)
No NFC. Read the reviews from Android Authority and GSMArena. The Verge also covered the phone.
I don't mind since there are no other SD845 phones under $399. They had to cut corners. NFC and IP cert are usually on the chopping block as far as features go...
No it does not have nfc
People in India don't need NFC. Because we barely use it. In the last five years I never used NFC. Maybe for Europe people their transport system has payments with NFC so they'll face an issue.

I never use NFC for payment. But using NFC for sending files (android beam) or transferring file from old phone to new one (if both support NFC) are pretty neat!
I am still confused. Many places say it doesn't have it but some websites (XDA included) state it does. Could someone verify?
Maybe its possible to Upgrade NFC with a NFC enabled Back Cover. WE need a tear down Video already!
The specs given initially on XDA included NFC. But it handy seems this was not correct - the post has been ammended to state "no NFC", consistent with other reports and hands-on videos I've seen.
I've never come across an external NFC device for any phone. Would be a handy device to have, though it would presumably occupy the usb-c, which in itself would be a PITA
Someone on another forum raised an interesting idea. There were the initial ideas that the F1 might have NFC. It was suggested that either the European version might have NFC or even that all versions might have NFC but that it might not be enabled in the Indian ROM.
To check this, if anyone has an F1, could they please install DevCheck from XDA or Play and just check on the hardware page to verify that NFC hardware is not present.
Thanks a million

Hi Sanjay, that's the case on my Hong Kong / international version too - i think naff47 is asking about the European version (if that's different from the international one - highly doubtful I'd have thought). I read from someone in the Netherlands that it had launched there (it's available on import from China pretty much everywhere), but haven't seen this confirmed.

Not too sure if there is any other manufacturing facility for our phone
Plus I don't think NFC will add that much to the cost that they will put it in selectively.
The only way to use NFC with the F1 is by getting Samsung S3 Fronier smart watch. That will connect to the F1 and the watch has NFC. I tested it and it works great. You need to use Magisk hide if you're rooted,
There is no NFC built into the Poco.

Who is gonna spend that much and that also in country like India.
but in India we use Mostly Paytm, PhonePe, BHIM UPI etc. apps which are UPI based apps so We don't need NFC must Have.
UPI is the standard way from Indian Government to Pay Digitally even with Low End Phones, and this phone is made accordingly!
I am planning to buy this phone but one thing I have to be sure is if it has Ant+ support.
Can someone install ant+ tester in googplay and make the test? All lines must be 'ok' and green.
Thanks in advance.
Here is the results
It's a bit tricky. One need to download the little service programs to understand if the phone really has the ant+ sensor.
Or else, i don't know where else to look for this information.
What one plus says it works with a dongle and it was dropped with the Android 11 update the plugins can be downloaded through the tester
As you might all know , Not all Snapdragon 8 Gen2 come with same Bluetooth/ Wi-Fi hardware modem
Some are fast connect 6900 " Wi-Fi 6e" some with fast connect 7800 " Wi-Fi 7" and others use other modems with only Wi-Fi 6 like Vevo & IQ phones
can we know which Modem that S23 Ultra uses , may be by looking into drivers or system dumb of its software ?
Well searching online, according to Qualcomm themselves, the gen 2 for galaxy will have both. According to other sources the S22 Ultra is the one that has Fast Connect 7800, but at the same time I cant find a source that says the S23 Ultra supports Wifi 7. I tried checking on my phone with multiple apps, and secret Samsung codes however I cant find the Bluetooth or Wifi modem.

Yup that is the point , why they put Fast connect 7800 in it and increase cost if they didn't enable WiFi 7 , they could have used only the 6900 model like they did with the S23+ & normal S23, that is why I think that all 3 models have Fast connect 6900 and the mentioning of 7800 was a typo in the article

It has Qualcomm Fastconnect 7800

I can only speak to the WiFi 6/6e part of this and I can tell you that my S23U connects to 6/6e as well as my wife's S22U. Matter of fact, my Z Fold 3 worked fine on 6/6e both.
I can confirm us version contains fastconnect 7800 under wcn7851. Basic support for wifi 7 is there, but the full capabilities likely won't be realized in android 13. Current patches for android 14 show progress for wifi-7 and relevant drivers.
Samsung does have a history of disabling features if they're unstable or caused by hardware defects.
On Qualcomm's devices finder page, it is mentioned that S23U uses 7800, S23 and S23+ use 6900
According to Xiaomi's official information, it is mentioned that after WIFI7 is not open, OTA updates will be open, and I think the same will be the case for Samsung.

Qualcomm website isn't accurate , last year they said the same about the S22 series , but it was discovered that the Wi-Fi ship in S22 ultra was Broadcom not Qualcomm and the only device that have Qualcomm was the normal S22 ,
I know that this year is different & in their website they are mentioning the US version of the S23U not the world wide Version and there is not a single source mentioning that the global version is Using Qualcomm latest tech till now, and from years of experience with Samsung products not all versions have same motherboard components , even Screens and Memory chips sometimes are different between versions
Sure it doesn't matter at this stage , it's full potential is anyway not fully unlocked but it is good to know that your device maybe be better future proofed
