Hey community,
i own a Sony z3c running cm12 .
Problem is that there is a crack in the screen in the upper left end making the first 80px from the top inaccessible via Touchscreen. Is there any possibility to run the device with a custom resolution which displays the GUI with an offset of 80px from the top? Currently i am unable to access the statusbar, which is a big downer.
Hope you guys have an idea.
Cheers

You can change the DPI and resolution on some phones, but it will still display in full screen, so that won't help you. What you can do is use an app like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.friedflow.statusbarexpander
I use Pie controls and have this set up to expand my notifications that way as I have the Nexus 6 and although I CAN reach the top, it's much easier just to trigger it with a mod so I don't have to adjust my hand so much and have less potential to drop it.
i know that there are apps to pull down the statusbar via button but with that i still have problems with other fullscreen apps. Also dropping the DPI to a level i could access the statusbar the phone would became nearly unusable...
Lowering the DPI doesn't make the screen shrink in that manner. I'm afraid you're kinda out of luck without replacing the screen.
okay, i actually found what i was looking for.
wm overscan {LEFT,TOP,BOTTOM,RIGHT} offers exactly the functionality i was looking for
Code:
wm overscan 0,80,00
gives the manageable GUI an offset of 80px from the top... everything working fine now.
Interesting find. Thanks for sharing. Glad all is well now.

Hello all,
I am about to get my mitts on an Ameo with Project Dual on and like using RealVGA on my Uni so looking forward to it on the big screen however as we all know some progs just will not take to working under VGA. In another thread that I started in Hack & Dev hacking in the hires string using reshacker was suggested but some programs still use QVGA for the touchscreen mapping so all the inputs are somewhere up in one corner or another for example.
My idea is this, would it be possible to have a wrapper or something similar that forces the screen back to 192dpi while running a non VGA happy app then hops back to 96dpi when you exit. This could help with a lot of apps from some of the GPS stuff to old games that people still like to play.
Is this possible or am I asking to much of the Windows Mobile platform
unfortunatly when changing the resolution, it has to soft reset, so I dont think this would be possible.
Another possible solution?
OK if we can't change the screens DPI on the go another thought is this . . .
At present some apps mainly games (although there must be a few applications like GPS or such with similar issues) can display the graphics at fullscreen 96dpi but the touchscreen only accepts input from the top left of your screen which is basically a QVGA 320x240 sized box as they were only ever programmed for that type of screen, I have attached a quick layout drawing to give the idea (the same thing would happen if the app is in portrait as well)
This leads to the problem that you have to guess where everything is in relation to the display which is not much use really, my idea is if we could hijack the input on the screen and translate the 96dpi x,y co-ords to the apps native 192dpi co-ords (halfing them should work I guess) so as far as the app is concerned it's back on a regular screen and everyone wins
If this is a possible way round it we just need a program similar to Hou Ming's (a.k.a. the Mad Programmer) Force-Hires tool to list which apps we want to fix and when it runs away we go
The final version is out and it doesn't work with the 96 DPI on the athena. The tabs are missing in the settings list, which isn't a problem but the tabs have no icons on the home screen. This program looks really useful and I am hoping we can find a way to make it work.
Mods please don't move this thread, it is device specific and I believe the issue would be overlooked in the main thread in the general forums.
Working great over here at 96 DPI! I've installed the final version (2.0.0 build 3275) And so far I haven't seen any drawbacks. Works very smooth, animations without hasitation and a few nice new features.

Hi
The tabs can be Replaced in 192 DPI if you using spb weather or phone suite or diary then switch back to 96 DPI, but Home tab you cannot do anything.
Tab settings list still missing in 96 DPI.
See my screen shots and see my previous post.
A blogger on ZDNet reviewed SPB on an Athena, and said it worked well.

Good find however I believe he is ignoring the problems with the 96 DPI. Look at his screen shot the list of tabs are missing. And he has no screen shots of the home plugin, which I thought was a big feature of this application.
Thanks sabes143, I forgot to move the information about 192 DPI in this thread.

I agree. It is completely useless. It is impossible to get the tabs working or showing anything meaningful and impossible to get the other menus to stay on the homepage. I would steer clear.
No joy here either with 2.0. No tabs. Today screen plugin is totally useless without them.
Too bad, there are some pieces of it I like!
I saw this posted in the development forum: Password for dat files that are really zip files: b0fm18zq Maybe this will help make the icons show up on the tabs...
Their forums also note that they don;t support RealVGA - that could be the problem (and if it is, that is really shortsighted on their part)...
same problem here,
mobile shell works fine with RealVGA and the 192 dpi setting
but is pretty useless with 92 or 128 dpi activated.
besides the today plugin not working:
in the spb menu (right softkey by default) the icons of all my custom programs look totally crappy, and next to each icon half of the icon of another program is visible.
I have the same issues, except that on my today screen, there are three other icons appearing next to all the icons.
I don't like having so many gestures to go access my applications. Currently my setup is far better than spb mobile. This is what I have:
1.I have date and time on the task bar so what I can see it everywhere. In addition, I have the big clock on my today screen provided by spb time. This lets be have fuller function than spb mobile.
2. I have spb phone suite on my today screen. This is better than what spb mobile offers because in addition to what spb mobile offers, I also havethe ability to switch on/off bluetooth, wifi etc.
3. I use SBSH weather watch today plugin, which of better than spb mobile's weather program because it shows more info, occupies less space, and has much more comprehensive weather stations for smaller towns.
4. I use ilauncher to launch programs. It is much easier and effortsless to configure and customise the icons for all dpi. I also get the safe mode reset capability.
5. I use today agenda to show my calendar and tasklist on my today screen. This is better than pocket informant IMHO because each item takes only one line, so more items could be shown on less space on today screen.
All items are visible at once on my today screen, without any need to swipe any fingers, which is a fun thing to do for just the first few seconds, but is really annoying after that for me.
Don't know, but even i don't like the way it behaves.
Its quite jerky when it does the so called "Animation" when you open contacts or any sub screen.
Its far better to use spb pocket plus or even resco today plugin and get the basic things you need right on your today screen.
Though, its something good to play around for a few days ... but then eventually it boils down to performance. It the device is not snappy, no matter what you do, it will not satisfy ...
Let's give 'em a call!

Has anybody tried to contact SPB Softwarehouse and gave them a version of the TrueVGA to test it with their software? I would think we are a large community with a voice!
Just wanted to congratulate you guys on a great app.
I have a Galaxy Mega 6.3 i9205 which has a resolution of 1280x720 but unfortunately a default 240 dpi.
Most parts of various themes working correctly, its just a few items are not correctly aligned.
From experience, the 240 dpi causes problems with other launchers and changing to 320 dpi fixes those launchers but makes the rest of the interface far too big and breaks some of the menus.
I was wondering if there was a way to adjust some of the themes manually or anything else I could do?
Much appreciated.

Hi, it's hard to say as Themer is designed to look what phone it's on, in this case the Mega isn't fully supported. The advice we could give would to to maybe try changing the resolution as well, but we can't guarantee this will work and that you should try it at your own risk.

This is why I created a similar thread a few days ago. Themer does not play well with non-stock DPI. If widgets and other graphics could be placed relative to the display margins/center (instead of absolute pixels), they should render correctly regardless of DPI.

Zooper already does render things like this. Try out something like Simple Sea or Pro UI. I rebuild these themes so that the anchor points for objects are relative to the side of the screen they are on. IE Top Center, Top Left, Top Right, Center, Center Left, Center Right, Bottom Center, Bottom Left, Bottom Right.
The only things that you will likely have issue with are when Zooper adds spacing, so layers such as Regular Text thats curved, Series based layers, and Progress bars that have spacing splits. Also Regular and Rich Text, that is set to an anchor of left or right, but also has a text alignment of Center, will be off by a bit. These are all as you are saying based on absolute pixel. Everything else in Zooper is based off of DIP (device independent pixels, http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html#density-independence)
There is NO WAY to fix these issues without breaking every Zooper widget, be it stand alone or in Themer, that was produced before your suggested change.
We do not support non-stock DPI. So if you want to use non-stock then you are going to have to do a little leg work on your own to fix the themes on your device.

Themer for Xperia U
I have an Xperia U ST25i and i have trying to install themer on it....while i can install it. I cannot access the themes.
I know that you currently do not support Xperia U for this app.. but i just wanted to know if there is a work around to this by changing the Dpi of my screen and if so, could you point me in a direction where i can get further information. Thanks
This would be a great addition for those roms who change the default dpi. In my installation of slimkat most themes are simply unusable,

Full Xperia U support is on its way. You can try modifying the DPI and resolution, but we'd recommend just waiting a few more weeks, it will be worth the wait

Hello. This is probably a first, but i want to ask if anyone knows how i could resize everything on my phone, so that its a bit smaller? Lets say the statusbar is a bit thinner, then the icons on the bottom of the screen are smaller. I've seen my friend do it once, it creates the illusion of a bigger display screen, i don't know how he did it though. So far i'm using [THIS] rom.
Is this possible on the xperia go?
Basically if it were a windows computer, to do this you'd change the resolution to a bigger one, as on lets say 800x600 the icons would be big, everything would be big, and if you change it to 1280x720 it would all shrink a bit.
Add this line to /system/build.prop (a few ROMs already have it, likely set to 240, in which case obviously just change the number):
ro.sf.lcd_density=200
200/210 is the setting I'm most comfortable with (sufficiently small but keyboard still usable).
Keep in mind that a few apps like Sony's launcher don't work well with DPI changes...

Hi Guys,
I scaled my interface to small, and everything looks smaller now (better). But the size of the notifications when i pull down the notification bar looks super huge and is not affected by the overall scale of the system.
Is there any way to reduce the size of this notifications?
ROOT?
do you have root access?

I know your pain brother. Default dpi/scaling looks like a phone for 90year old with mega eyesight issues + steps to lower it to a good looking system are too steep, so you can have either Large or tiny option. View mode setting has zero effect on size of notifications in respect of incoming notifications and notifications appearing in in quick toggle area. Text Size @ Small makes them notifications look bit better but not ideal considering its a qhd screen..
Try going for small in both of these settings. At first View Mode/Text Size set to small seemed to tiny to handle, but I got used to it already. I would rather have small and crisp text than that default large out of place crap..
No i dont have root, but what happens if i do have root?

You are right, i went with small on both settings, and it does feel a bit better. Thanks for the recommendation! I must admit in some apps text is extremely tiny though (like whatsapp). But well i guess thats better than those giant notifications that annoy me all the time
But on my mate 9 it works for Notification also. Only on my new Mate 10 it is not applying. I hope for a fix in the next Updates.

What do you mean by "it" ? View mode ?
Its just that on mate 10 (alp-l29 8.0.0.115 (C185):
x. View mode options have zero effect on size of notifications, however,
x. Text size options does change the size of notifications, however only Text size - small looks good, however it makes other areas in phone uber-tiny..bearable but no the perfect solution..

No, you are wrong. Text size does change the size of notifications. View mode is the setting that's not working properly since it has no effect on size of notifications no matter what of 3 size options you chose.
See the screenshot I made comparing 3 different sizes of Text size, which clearly show that size of notification does change depending on the chose size of "Text size".
If View mode would work properly, meaning its options would have affect on notification size than Text size - normal could be used, but unfortunately that's not the case, so in order to have decent looking phone Text Size and View mode should both be set to Small.

so what?!
Manual change of DPI does not give you any better results than View Mode - Small, Text Size - Small. Even the slightest change of DPI from "423" (423 is what the system sets with the mentioned settings (View Mode - Small, Text Size - Small)) messes up the whole system - for example, font in Chrome and Whatsapp jumps like crazy even @ 420 which is a small step down, so in short - messing just with DPI in development options will not give you more eye candy/more decent looking system than View Mode - Small, Text Size - Small.
I get it. In all my mobile phones I have used xposed with the appsettings module, we will have to pray for xposed to arrive soon in oreo in order to be able to touch the interface of the system. Huawei must offer better tools for the density of notifications but I do not think it will fix it
Lowering the dpi also or increasing the dp in the developer options did not change the notifications size also. I was having the mate 9 and it was working perfectly for me in this regard. There should be some update to fix this issue.

Set mine to 492. I noticed the notification contents to shift down when I set it to 493 or higher.
I set it to view mode normal and text size small and put dpi in developer settings to 392. It looks like as it should have been standard. Anyways, now I have to change dpi after every reboot .
