Hmmm the Nexus 6P comes with a qfuse. It will be activated if you unlock bootloader. You can lock your bootloader back, but you cannot restore the qfuse. Qfuse is a hardware, once trip cannot revert back. Once QFuse is tripped, no more warranty.
Check the attached pic which shows qfuse in the bootloader.
read below forum for more discussion on this:
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/97415852-post1515.html
What is qfuse:
Qfuses are one-time-programmable (OTP) elements that are used to enable and disable security and debug features of the MSM7xxx device. The Qfuses are implemented as anarray of one-bit fuse blocks. The Qfuse banks are used for two purposes — providing non-volatile, immutable storage of data, and configuration of hardware features. For immutabledata storage, the Qfuses are read via a shadow register which contains the actual valuestored and includes error correction. For configuration, each Qfuse is associated with a one-time write register. The value of each Qfuse is sensed at powerup and stored in a register. Blowing Qfuses is done byplacing a value to a register and applying current to the fuse. The fuse registers areaccessible through JTAG and software readable address locations.

That's not cool
Maybe the qfuse is part of the "save fingerprint partition".
Wow, on a Nexus that's a disgrace.
Oh well, I'm not really sure why we still need a lot of that.
The only reason I really needed root anymore was for bypassing tethering, but most don't worry about that with shared data.

Yea, but short of physical malfunctions like you mentioned they could potentially argue that the software change impacted your device via indirect methods.

good luck in explaining that act to an offshore customer service rep who barely speaks/understands english. Also besides USA there are other countries and people live there and use android/Nexus phones.
Who cares, I have never returned a nexus device because it got broked coz I is dumb can't use ADB durrrr hurrr durrr.
Honestly 99% of use won't give two ****s, preparing a nexus your self is easy enough once parts are available, most users just want root and are aware this process could cause damage regardless.
Who's scared of a Qfuse really ? I bet someone figures how to write back to it just for fun anyway.
Remember Samsung's KNOX . . . fat lot of good that was can't bypass that they said . . .
Just had an online chat with Google regarding warranty status. Yes it is void while boot loader is unlocked, but if re-locked it is back in warranty again.

so google doesn't check the status of the qfuse?
Doesnt seem to no. Just that the boot loader is locked!
I also asked about the fingerprint scanner and rooted devices. Wernt a able to give me any info, but at least they were honest about it.
I also have never had to return a nexus. Nexus 4 5 6. And 7(2013) models. If I did. I would play stupid. It's worked on my other phones I have had to return.
That's amazing! Contact google and you get two different answers!

My N6 with a bad battery disagrees with you, if N6 has efuse I would have been out of luck with Moto in replacing it under warranty, you can't replace a sealed bad battery with ADB.
Definitely want to get a concrete answer on this. I was planning on unlocking the bootloader right when I got the phone but now I'm skeptical. If this really will void the warranty, **** Google. It's a nexus. We should be able to do whatever we want to.

They are diligently working to ensure that any and/or all form of warranty is tracked and voided for people who choose to opt out of their bull**** stock software package.
Granted....I can see where they are coming from...there are lots of idiots out there--more so than not...and that could get costly quickly dealing with unwarranted warranty repairs....buuuuuut, it's damn near impossible to brick a device (short of flashing the wrong phone's radio...and they could even do something to prevent that...use that crypto-signing for OUR benefit instead of theirs).....so.....I guess they are going to force us into a trade-off situation. We get what we want but they get something to insure it's worth the risk.
My only concern is will it void all warranty? Insurance? Only for "Software issues" that render the device useless? Who is the judge of that? Me or some partially retarded Sprint lacky who has no idea of what is going on besides what this database tells him to do? If I crack the screen am I still screwed on insurance? If i am using a rooted stock ROM and the standard baseband does something to screw up my phone am I still screwed?

You'll still be able to get insurance. You can throw your phone at a wall and it will be covered (at your cost- $84/year + $100 deductible). Asurion makes money of insuring these phones, even if they have to replace a few here and there, its still a profitable business.
Has anyone managed to get theirs phone repaired after unlocking the bootloader through sony website?
Also everyone says that you lose warranty when you unlock the bootloader via sony website. On ythe website http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
I found this text:
Please note that you MAY void the warranty of your phone and/or any warranty from your operator if you unlock the boot loader. Sony Ericsson can then no longer guarantee the full functionality of your phone, and will not be responsible for any unsigned custom software being flashed to the phone after the boot loader is unlocked. Certain functions in your phone might cease to work, and performance might not be ideal.
Well it says that it may void the warranty.......so there is a possibility that they would repair the phone even if it's unlocked - I'm talking about hardware repairs.
I did. Well, it wasn't repaired, but that was probably because they didn't recognize the problem (burned in screen).
On the repair ticket they said 'Modified software' but they didn't charge me anything.

its better when you re-lock bootloader back then they will repair phone without problems
Technically they can see missing DRM certificate, if you unlock using official way. Not that they will specifically look for it but it does show when they connect it to program they use in service.

I'm in Poland - they seem to have a deal with a a company called Regenersis.
http://translate.google.com/transla...f=1&u=http://www.regenersis.pl/CustsS_17.aspx
It is a "phone repairing" company.
So Regenersis is an official service center for many mobile companies in Poland including Sony. The closest office would be in Warsaw.
I used to have a wildfire S before and this question came up in that form too, so I'll give the same response here.
Unlocking your bootloader DOES NOT void your warranty.
' Sony Ericsson can then no longer guarantee the full functionality of your phone, and will not be responsible for any unsigned custom software being flashed to the phone after the boot loader is unlocked. Certain functions in your phone might cease to work, and performance might not be ideal. You might also damage your phone permanently. In the worst case, unlocking the boot loader will cause physical injuries or material damage, for example, due to the phone overheating.'
I.e. -- If you OC your phone or install a modded kernel which screws with the hardware and breaks it it isn't their responsibility
The warranty remains though, obviously the proviso is that you don't flash a custom ROM or anything, but even then the main thing is that if you break something and re-flash stock they probably wont know tbh.
So (broken record style) No, unlocking your bootloader DOESNT void your warranty, breaking your phone by OCing it too much or screwing with it in that matter does render them non-liable for it, if your phone had a fault which was not due to custom ROMs or anything though and was in fact a sony issue warranty is maintained.
Edit: Matter of fact, within the EU they CAN'T void your warranty for pre-existing faults.
I wish people wouldn't make assertions as to the law without properly reading T&C first & some basic knowledge on EU warranty regulations.
Sorry about thr massive edit delay, apparently there's a 5 minute gap i need to observe lest I try to sell [email protected]
Send my Xperia S in at the end of June for the yellow tints problem. Waited two weeks and Sony replied that they wouldn't repair the phone because of "illegal unlock"?? The phone is factory unlocked. Tried to discuss this issue on http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/34135, and 1 day later my account with sonymobile was suspended. Just feel so disappointed with Sony's customer service.
Wow.
What was your user name over there?
Have you unlocked your bootloader or sent it in rooted or something like that?
If that's the case, it's normal that they didn't touch it as you lost your warranty if you unlocked your bootloader. If you rooted it, you should have restored it before sending, because technically, rooting voids your warrantytoo.
Maybe you bought it used and the previous owner unlocked the bootloader and didn't tell you?
ditto (well i unlocked the bootloader, with a code provided by SONY, which is hardly illegal, but I guess they're really playing the voided warranty issue on this)

Had got the same problem with yellow tints, but my phone wasn't unlocked and has been repaired by Sony in two weeks.
If you had unlocked your phone even with the Sony method it's indicate that warranty is avoid in this case.
Interesting...with an unlocked bootloader it still shouldn't have been an issue. Your warranty is in theory still intact, just with CPU modifications and such afterwords that can void it (overclocking and such with custom kernels). In the terms it just says "may" so they avoid liability if you break it yourself. It appears in this case (and the other one posted above) they decided to throw that out the window and just say "meh, sorry, today, because it's cold and didn't sleep well, its your fault."
You didn't by any chance have Doom's kernel on when you sent it in?
It's almost like every center changes their interpretation of a voided warranty depending on the weather or if they just feel like it .
I wouldn't associate your account being blocked as Sony's fault though, as you picked a username that appears to be picked by bashing your head on the keyboard . It was probably what they thought was a spam account?
If you formatted the device then reflashed it with a stock GB firmware would anyone be able to tell that it had been unlocked ever?

Sony really need to sort themselves out, been going backwards and forwards for weeks. Latest issue is they are now claiming I purchased my phone in another country, it was supplied by my carrier.
Been a Sony fan since x10, but they are getting worse with cs. The phones are better, but they really need to train their staff.
My phone is not foreign, how the hell would they know in the first place? They've never seen the phone and I have never been asked for an imei number.
This is a joke now.

We over in the HTC forums have the same prob, unlock the bootloader then you lose all warranty on your phone. We have faulty WiFi antenna on the One X, the contacts don't connect the antenna correctly, HTC say that if you unlocked your bootloader you can't get the antenna fixed, no one can say how unlocking a bootloader and WiFi antenna can be connected in any way, but HTC are being dogs about it. As for the yellow tints, they are a common problem across the bord, it's only the glue sticking the screen and the glass, play some games, give your phone a good use to heat it up and you will find that, the yellow tints go after a week or so
It's odd to see that it seems all/most mobile manufactures some what lack customer service.

haha, that's interesting. I got that username because they said my normally used one has been taken. I've never done any CPU overclocking/mod, or never had any customer kernel installed. I don't know their "illegal unlock" means network unlock or software unlock. The phone was sent back to the repair centre with original GB software.
Here is the feedback from Sony UK's repair center, if this can help. I can guarantee the phone is working properly with photo evidence. I don't know why see put Display broken rather than "yellow tints".etc. Now the phone sounds totally dead at the Sony repair center.
Perhaps they tested it for so long it's run out of battery!

That is correct - some have said (those that know more than I) that tripping knox blows a Q FUSE which as I understand it is a phyisical attribute on the phone not a software attribute - - to UNDO that would be impossible without a soldering iron of somekind -)(joking) but there are tons of QFUSES avaialble from what I have read - and it seems that Samsung and maybe even the carrier tech staff have a way of "Reassigning" the QFUSE or someting - as many phones taken back for repairs are returned with Knox reset to 0.
I may be completely wrong in the way I am describing this - as I am not developer and have only read a bunch about it - much of which was way over my head - but that is my interpreation of how it works (on a very simple level)
For the record, I ran Triangle Away on my TMO S5 without any issue. I'm not sure if it worked as I have not checked.. but it did not brick my phone.
Also, this is the first I've heard of this KNOX chip and hardware tampering system. It is very possible to construct a loop that is designed to blow a fuse; thus triggering a desired software effect. HOWEVER, its still software which means that (in theory) its still possible to work around. If all of this is true, it will only be a matter of time before we have a work around.

There is currently no way to reset the Knox Warranty flag on a G900T (and most other models) once it has been set to 0x1. Triangle away does not work. Tons of threads on XDA about this, and much more discussion can be found with a simple Google search.

Triangle away will not reset your Knox flag.
The flag can be reset in theory and has actually has been reset under controlled conditions in Development threads. But don't expect an end user solution to materialize anytime soon. For all practical purposes, a Knox flag is irreversible.
Sending a 0x1 phone to Samsung for warranty service will inevitably get it returned as unrepairable i.e. a refused warranty claim. If you live in the EU you can argue with them as their are stronger consumer protection laws ostensibly preventing them from refusing a claim unless they can demonstrate that your root damaged the phone.
For anyone elsewhere, it's more effective to claim warranty through your carrier. Many carriers don't care about Knox.

my friend just took a GS5 back to tmobile because he basiclly bicked it and was to impatient to drop iot off at my house to fix it. They gave him a new one no questions asked and knox was tripped ..Its like they dont even care .. If you have premium handset protection it dont even matter if you trip knox . I think they would rather get a knox tripped phone rather than one that has a cracked screen ..The sales people up there only know how to do one thngand that is a factory reset to solve any and all problems .LOL.The last thing tmobile wants to do is keep you from having a phone.
T-Mobile does not check if Knox was tripped. They don't know how to check it anyways. Just make sure that if they ask, do not give an impression that the phone is rooted.
I bricked my phone & brought back to Sprint & got a new one without a problem... Thank God!

Some info in this thread is false, but this user explains it correctly. Triangle away is not about the Knox counter but about the Flash counter, which counts if your phone has been flashed. And on some devices it counts how many times you've flashed. I've attached a screenshot to clarify
The OP question, if triangle away works wasn't answered that i saw. I boldly tried it, with TriangeAway version 3.26 on an international SM-G900F with Polish Lollipop rom ...BNL9 version. The phone was Odin flashed with official Polish firmware to upgrade to 5.0 lollipop and then rooted with CF autoroot. And on this device TriangleAway worked! Flash counters were reset to official. Knox still tripped of course.
Nice Thread. I have some more questions about this topic. I have a S5 with Phoenix ROM.
I don't care about knox or warranty, but for cosmetic issues I would like to have this SEAndroid Enforcing Thingy go away. So may I ask what part of the system reports This message. And what does SEAndroid mean? If this is some kind of certificate or other property? How will the phone know if, for example, Android 5.3 comes out? Or will that use an old kernel the phone already knows?
What are the chances someone makes a custom kernel that is SEAndroid Enforcing?

Triangle away will not remove it. Only way to remove it is to run 100% stock kernel
Could not someone edit the text to Kernel ready for CPUSPEEDENFORCING? Or Kernel Is too smart for the phone? P.S. Your answer was already given. I asked something else.
In an effort to reclaim the thread and keep it going (as for a question that I have as well), what is the hardware effect that the QFUSE breaking causes? My Knox was tripped before I received the phone, and the only noticeable flaw I have (not sure if it is Knox related because I received the phone by a trade) is that within my back camera pictures, I have three black spots that look like burns (snapshot attached). Could someone help me out?
I was told Nexus devices warranties aren't voided, is this true? Just not 100% if I want to keep my N9 but I wanna root it to see if it can satisfy what I need it for
"But if you restore the factory Image and relock the bootloader they will never know... effectively restoring your warranty." - Is this true? From a Nexus 7 thread
Thanks!
When u unlock your bootloader .. its says it "may" void warranty. Undortuantley i am unsure of what that "may" means. But as far as i know unlocking bootloader wont void your warranty. But correct me if im wrong.
It's a nexus, no warranty void when unlocking/locking rooting/unrooting.
This is how nexus worked since the beginning.
If they change this, nexus would sell probably not at all anymore because it would be like every other tablet/phone beside the stock android.
So no, no warranty void. Period
HTC's documentation in the box makes it clear that unlocking voids the warranty. It looks like a blanket policy, but there's no other info to the contrary.

Yeah, so that's why it says "May".
Buy from HTC, lose warranty with unlock.

It doesn't say anything about being unable to return after unlocking. I'd just relock and put it back to stock, though Google or their service company (?) would likely do the same anyway.

Yeah, so that's why it says "May".
Buy from HTC, lose warranty with unlock.
Buy from Play, no such problem.
I just unlocked and rooted mine. I'm feeling underwhelmed for $400 though, and I'm considering a return under Googles:

I doubt there's different warranty information in a mass produced box, regardless of where you ordered. But if you have it in writing, you're safe. I expect most people here aren't too worried about their warranty, but I prefer to know the actual policy rather than hope for the best.

Basically the same as me. I paid $608 AUD for my black 32gb one and I just feel like its probably not worth it...
You can always relock the BL with fastboot OEM lock and like magic it's locked again

After locking mine again (for warranty return), it flashes "This is a development device not intended for production use" in red letters at the top of the screen during boot... I guess I'm about to find out if it voids the warranty.

Maybe you could relfash the stock ROM and relock it?

Yep, that's exactly what I just did. Thanks! I did a little more searching and found a few others making that suggestion. I followed this process for a manual flash (after the flash-all script failed), then `fastboot oem lock` before rebooting. I no longer see the "development device" message!

No problem, its a Nexus so there is always a way to fix it by flashing.
