View app instant cpu usage on Android 6.0 Marshmallow - Nexus 9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i have recently upgraded to factory marshmallow image. Performance was awesome on the first minutes (no apps installed). But then, after all apps from the playstore were installed, performance got considerably worse.
As I was used to do on previous android versions, I enabled cpu usage overlay on developer options, only to realize it now only shows android ui process on the list.
As I noticed that other cpu monitoring tools were only displaying themselves, I'm guessing it's something related to the new permission system.
So here's the question. Is there any way to grant an app, or even the system ui, access to other apps cpu usage info???
Is there any other way to track which app is draining the performance, without having to uninstall one by one (I have around 150 apps installed)?
Model: volantisg (lte), black, 32gb.
Thank you.

usefull apps to use with your kindle

ok just got this kindle hd 7 and been tweaking since day one. i got twrp with cm10.1 running on it. some apps that have help my kindle are:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.selfip.unet.developer_options
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.pmw
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify
developer option, system tuner, and greenify is all you need to may kindle fly.
developer option app: turn off all animation scales
system turner: freeze Google system apps, stop startup apps, tweaks
greenify: hibernate most all apps
before i had about 90-100mb free ram when first boot. now i get over 300mb free ram after boot. makes kindle a bit more responsive imo. and freezing those google apps will make your wakelocks go away and should increase battery life significantly. Google search is a big battery hog and needs to be put to sleep.

Optimizing my android (May have gotten water over my head?)

So, I recently got my first android and I've been fairly obsessed with getting it to run as smooth as possible, with as little battery drain as possible. Removing all bloat, and all unnecessary apps/services etc. Now I find myself with half my apps being related to optimization, and I am wondering if this might have some reversed effects. I do appologize for the long read, I hope this thread will clarify some things for more than just me!
My setup so far on my LG G2 D802:
Stock KitKat 4.4.2 - DorimanX newest beta kernel (STweaks, Synapse)
Viper4android - Sound quality is ALOT better, buzz/hissing sound gone.
Greenify - I use it mainly on social apps, to prevent wakelocks. Also used on stuff I don't use and cpu/ram consuming apps I don't use that often
DisableService - Used mainly on social apps and I have disabled about 20 system services (Mainly wearable, game, log, and ad stuff)
Xposed Installer: Xprivacy, BootManager, Cool Tool, Greenify, Secure Settings(Mainly for Llama), Wakelock Terminator.
Trickstermod - Using to modify IO and kernel (Running deadline/interactive(Highly modified))
Wakelock Detector
Titanium Backup
SuperSu
CPU Monitor Advanced Pro
All in all 17 apps just for optimizing, it feels a bit much? Does these app drain battery? Any tips?

[Q] Android System Draining Battery with High CPU Time

I am using a OnePlus One on Exodus ROM and have noticed that the "Android System" is draining my battery, with very high CPU use time. The problem has persisted with every ROM I have tried, including Cyanogen 12S and CyanogenMod 12.1. It also persists regardless of kernel. I am currently using the AK Kernel, but the same problem happens even with the stock kernel. I used the SystemPanel app to determine which process is using the CPU (hence draining my battery) and it seems to be a process called "system". Does anyone know why this problem is occuring? Your help is much appreciated.
Screenshots are attached. Thanks again for your help.
Uninstall apps one by one until the cpu usage goes down, (enable show cpu usage in development)
Or wipe everything, and install your apps one each day until you receive problems

I tried that last night and it didn't work. The system process had a CPU time of over 2 hours today, and when I use the SystemPanel app to monitor usage, it always seems to be using CPU. Please help!
EDIT: I looked at another CPU monitor and realized that that the following processes are consistently eating CPU: Android System, Settings Storage, Phone, ANT HAL Service, and LocationServices. I'm really not sure why this is. Again, your help is *much* appreciated!

BAD Nougat RAM management (all devices with pure android)

Hi eveyone,
Title tells you everything. Why i made this conclusion? Because android nougat system uses all your RAM in vain.(I would like to mention that Linux os is famous for its low ram usage and fast ui so, google, why android is using so much RAM?) . Any installed app data which are stored on your Ram on a boot, so why apps are slowly opening,Why they are reloading everytime when switching back to that app? All apps which are running in multitasking mode(recents apps) when switching between apps , app is reloading but not switching to the last opened moment. Also there are some other bad behaviour like when youre updating your apps through google play store. If you switch to another app , google play app stops doing update process. These problems gets pixel and nexus devices and all devices which uses ROMs based on aosp or lineage.
I'm on a purenexus(aosp) rom and My device (kenzo)uses 1.8/1.8 GB of ram. It's a real problem. Comparing samsung galaxy s8 vs pixel device you can see what i'm talking about. (Youtube link is below) Why OEMs gets better results with their own UI and kernel customizations? Atleast, Can we get better Ram management on android o with stock kernel? I'm not talking about apple's iOS which is better in multitasking in any way..
https://youtu.be/UK8K-lhDFVw
I would like to get your opinion and suggestions how to improve RAM management on nougat. Atleast prove me that you don't have these my mentioned problems (please tell me your using ROM name, kernel and other mods you use).
Tried a lot ROMS but after some days of usage they end with poor ui performance with bad ram management behaviour..
Some saintly person with infinite knowledge is coming here to tell you that "free ram is wasted ram".
He won't care if your phone lags, apps reload and ui is unresponsive. He'll just repeat his favorite phrase.
"Free ram is wasted ram."
Let's see the first Saint's comment.
Oh and btw..
I'm facing the exact same problem. And I'm very pissed off with these saintly people repeating their favorite phrase. No solution found so far. Use greenify on as many apps as you can. It'll cause the problem to be a little more bearable.

Use custom kernel.
Also lately play services started hogging ram so I disabled some of the services :

Third if you have social media apps running they are the culprit, my gfs s7e lagged with Facebook, Instagram, viber, whatsapp etc.
Greenify solved the issue.

LOL so true, I was just thinking the same ? They'll say free ram is wasted but that's not true for a multitasker, like me, because I like to use 4 apps and be able to switch amongst them without reloading(I have 2GB variant)
Anyway, checkout my screenshot, I use greenify + 512mb zram(ElementalX kernel default settings)
P.s I'm on XenonHD
Never had such issue on any nougat rom. I use Resurrection remix 5.8.2 and Agni Kernel. Use Zram in kernel Auditor to boost performance little bit. I always have 700 to 800 free ram on 2g variant.
I set my LMK to 9-32-64-100-156-214 and I swear i can switch around with browser, facebook, message and gallery without reload anything . I'm on 2gb Kenzo with franco kernel
guys, use privacy guard / appops , and disable background working of unnecessary apps like
Solution: Root; tweak
A little bit of my story: Galaxy Tab S. What laptop (tablet - in the old days, laptops were great with that much ram, weren't they?) with 3 gb ram won't let you multitask?! When it was Kitkat, it was, well, alright. I upgraded to Marshmallow, and I was not able to multitask. Marshmallow on Galaxy J5 Prime leaves 800 MB without cache and over 1.2 GB without cache, out of 3 GB. Similar with Marshmallow/Tab S (+ overheating processor!). I mean what the ****? Is that planned obsolescence?
And now I am here, typing from Tab S, with: 5 tabs open in Chrome, 2 tabs in Xodo, Settings, Play Store, ES File Explorer, Task Bar (Braden Farmer) [at the least] - having changed to Lineage OS 14.1 (no good. by default), rooted and learnt about Low Memory Killer (in Deathly Adiutor); tweaked it and I have less than 300 MB free ram with cache and less than 875 MB free without cache. Yay! (Btw, the overheating problem is solved too by underclocking - to save battery and avoid overheating!) [I have spent at least two days testing out different OS and possibility-of-root and features.] So, this paragraph is my 2 cents.
Would like to hear from you if your problem is solved.
[PS: J5 Prime is still under warranty, and is used for basic functionalities - no problem there as of yet.]
I'm currently running RR nougat with randon kernel
The ram management is great i can swith fb ,youtube, chorme, mess without loading, but in long term the phone start slow, hang and battery drop super fast ( 5H SOT)
So i have to force 3 app running background to keep battery longer and stay away from lag.
Any ideas to keep great ram and free - lag ?!?
Tks in advance
Any idea

Runaway process - How to identify?

So I currently own an unrootable nougat phone () and suspect I have malware. Using a CPU manager, I can identify 1-2 cores constantly at full usage. Nothing suspect in developer options > running processes (WHO'S IDEA AT -GOOGLE- WAS IT TO LIST APPS BY MEMORY USAGE AND NOT CPU USAGE? THESE ASSHOLES) Malwarebytes and google play app report no malware. None of the CPU-by-app tracking apps work on nougat since the changes to /proc. Outside of a manufacturer reset, what can I do?
