Moto g too laggy on MC5 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I played MC5 on my moto g 1st and I even tried to improve it by using gltools and everything but it seems to lag alot because frame rate drops and that annoyed me alot as I want a constant 30-35fps without dropping to show lag and I even using the game option file and that didn't help and that if you run 16bit rendering it won't work, I really like this game but lag is the issue that kills it

[Q] overheating

Please help..I am really getting hopless and disappointed at this phone..I am using lite'ning rom and before that the original rom i am still experiencing extreme overheating when playing games like Asphalt, What am I supposed to do what's wrong?
i'd really appreciate if someone could help.
Are you charging at the same time?
What is the surrounding air temp?
Are you overclocking?
Have you tried a different kernel?
Have you tried another battery?
I would expect it to get quite hot playing games like that for an extensive time,.....
How long?
What is your actual battery temp?

Where did you get ashphalt from? the reason i ask is because i think i saw it in the samsung apps store as S1 only.
And how hot is it actually getting?
Are you charging while playing?
Thank you all for your concern. I am not charging. Original battery with temp around 39'c. No change to the rom (lite'ning). Will changing the kernel resolve the problem? Games are all from Gameloft fir GS2. The phone gets really hot that I can not hold it!!!!
Isn't Asphalt just one of those games that doesnt fully support the dual-core cpu? I think it is the same problem with Gangstar:Miami Vacation. The game runs both cores at 100% which makes your SGS2 VERY hot.
I'd advice not to play any of those games, that are not updated for dual-core CPUs
I had the same problem mate with lite'ning/stock rom 2.3.3. Changed rom to Batista70 and heat issues deduced significantly, also changed kernel. Try changing both custom rom & kernel to find best combo for your phone use.

I had this issue while playing "Medieval Castle Defense", but not on "Asphalt".
Too much undervolting especially on the higher frequencies can cause overheating while running resource hungry app and games. [Says Tegrak himself! ]
If 39 degree is what you call too hot, my battery sometimes reaches that temp while surfing using hspa.
I experienced the same temps a while ago playing Asphalt 6 but i changed the settings SETCPU and from then on I have only top temps at about 40 maximum.

Xperia Ultra for gaming

Since a few people have got the phone already I was wondering what their gaming experience has been like.
With the screen and processor/GPU this may be not just the best gaming phone but perhaps the best portable gaming device out there.
Which games use the Ultra's hardware to the fullest? Are there any Android games with 1080p ?
SG deadzone, Asphalt 7, need for speed, minio rush ..................... Work great, smooth without lag. Visual so reality. Only the sound from the device not good. Better use headset.

Dead Trigger works like a charm too though im not sure if it is 1080p not that i think anyone can tell
With graphics setting on high, everything is fluid but the 3000mah battery only lasted me about 3hrs of gameplay on low brightness (0%)
and the screen makes gaming awesome too
TDKR (Batman) looks great every time I play.
There are ZU gaming videos on YouTube.

Whatabout emulators? Does the software home/back icons interfere with the virtual buttons that sometimes get pretty close to the edge of the screen?

I have no idea. Search YouTube for something like "Nexus 4 emulator games". Why the Nexus 4? It has on-screen buttons. Either way, if they don't disappear while gaming and it bothers you, you can choose to wait (if you decide to get the ZU) until the ZU gets root. You'll then be able to quickly toggle the buttons on and off.
Hmm, if you toggle it off, how would you be able to "quit" your apps since the back button is missing? For my current note 2, if the app freezes or something goes funky, I can hit the hardware button and force the device back to the main screen, so I'm not sure how that works for onscreen buttons since I've never owned a device with no home button.
I confirm game performance are sick. There is no lag at all.
Do you remember that part on "Iron man" when on first startup there is lag (you know that moment). Here on Xperia Z Ultra there is no lag at all....I guess adreno 330 is good gpu.

CM10.1 has a feature that's called "Expanded desktop" which hides the status and navbar. You can enable/disable this by pressing and holding the power button (like you do when you want to power off/reboot your phone), and you'll get the option there. This is available system wide, so it's always an option to enable them again no matter where you are (games etc.). That's a custom ROM though, and i'm sure there is a similar mod for the Xposed framework (100% speculation), so you don't have to flash a ROM, but being rooted will be enough.
Ah thanks for the clarification. I've always been weary of custom roms due to bugs (camera not working, GPS feature broke, can't make calls, etc) but that's for another discussion.
What are the best emulators to use?

Depends which system you're emulating. Which ones you have in mind
most games are actually 1080p already smooth even for Adreno 320, you can tell by taking a screenshots and having a look at the pixels
- Shadowgun deadzone, 1080p + AA, 60fps on Adreno 320
- Modern Combat 4, 1080p, 60fps on Adreno 320
- Temple Run 2, 1080p, 60fps on Adreno 320
- Asphalt 7, 1080p, 60fps on Adreno 320
- Need for Speed Most wanted, 1080p, 60fps on Adreno 320
- FrontLine commando, D-Day, 1080p, very smooth on Adreno 320
- Fast and Furious 6, 1080p, very smooth on Adreno 320
- Ripetide GP 2, scalable from ingame options, variable smoothness on Adreno 320
- Beach buggy blitz, scalable from ingame options, variable smoothness on Adreno 320
- Iron Man 3 runs in sub 1080p, like 720p scaled up, variable smoothness on Adreno 320
- Real Reacing 3 sub 1080p as well, variable to average smoothness on Adreno 320
on Adreno 320 all the above games run liquid smooth already with the exception of Beach buggy blitz, Ripetidge GP2, IronMan 3 and Real Racing which seems to jump between 20fps and 60fps, these are the best games to test the new powers of Adreno 330
lots of info and pixel screenshots from my posts here

Important is not to see what about already existing games. Using a Nexus 7 with custom kernel and none of those games are lagy. The 330 is yet to have show it's power as there is no game using 100% of it now a day. Need to see upcoming games and upcoming custom kernels as well. This device is really promising, only lack as for any device is the time the battery last while playing. Almost time the only solution is to play while plug to the wall, but it kill the battery.
Are there any upcoming games which are likely to put the 330 to full use?

Actually no, and I am happy about it. Would feel really bad if just after put my hands on the latest phone with latest GPU, the GPU would already be at its limits. But with time everything come.
cytus
Anybody tried playing cytus on ZU while putting it on a table? Had a lot of misses when I have to press two notes together as though my finger wasn't detected.

Just wait until we get JB 4.3. The Snapdragon 800 supports OpenGL 3.0, which is one of the new features in 4.3. Games will look even better.

Galaxy S3 heats up really fast when playing certain games

My S3 heats up really fast when playing Clash of Clans... 5-10 min of gameplay.. and the bottom part of the phones gets really hot... somewhere around 50c or more
i can play other much more resource extensive games like brave frontier or Knight and Squires or sometimes watching movies for hours and the phone barely Heats up
btw.. what's on the bottom part of the phone that's causing the heat ? the ARM SoC ?
i kept changing between different ROMS and kernels... but same issue
It's the CPU, your game is probably coded to use all four cores at the same time -others may only use one.

You're right, whoe SoC is at the bottom, you just have to deal with it, i mean, phones don't have coolers
Also, it's way smaller heating than on S2, it's SoC was at the top by the camera, and the camera cover was metal, and when it heated up it could be so hot it just burned and your finger stuck to it, so, be happy, our S3 is 'cooler' than many other phones (atleast what i know).
Cheers.
Ok thanks guys... wow that 50+ c isn't considered hot
so are they any apps that can dynamically adjust clockspeed based on the Apps/games launched ?
No problem with playing game for me also..yea it can get hot sometimes when playing *heavy* games but in general its ok

Buy another phone, not Huawei their Kirin processors are not good. They somehow perform well in benchmarks but they are a lot worse in real life than snapdragon or exynos (and of course apple)
I benchmarked many games... Maximum 10 min of gaming then there is thermal throttling because it gets too hot. Then fps drops 1/3 at least.
Just tested pubg on HDR setting and anti aliasing enabled. It starts with 40fps but after 5 min drops to 15-25fps and also lags, unplayable.
Even normal games with not so good graphics get fps drops after 10-15min like Sonic. Common Huawei, my sister is playing Sonic on a 250€ Samsung A5 2017
Look at the screenshots, it starts with 40fps but many lags and frame drops. After a couple minutes it drops to constant 20fps. The other shows CPU usage but that is not working obviously. Somehow it gets an average of 30fps but that's bs. It is not playable.
Yeah.. Same with me when i switch to HD settings of pubG it lags little bit.. But when i switch on HDR it become unplayable. I will upgrade to one plus soon.
Thanks
if you got root then disable the power genius app and restart. this app slows phone down to prevent overheat. i tested this with pubg and asphalt 8 at 60fps. constant 60 FPS even after 30 mins of gaming. with HDR i get constant 40-45.
PS: the phone will get warm because of 12 GPU cores so be in a cool room while playing.
same here. using m10p and lagging on PubG even on High settings. But it improved on the latest firmware (BLA-L29 C636 B138)
PUBG lagg on Mate 10 Pro not because of Kirin. It laggs because PUBG is not optimized game at all. Same for people that play PUBG throu their desktop computers. I watched my friend playing PUBG on his 2k PC and still gettin' FPS dropped and lagg. Although Mate gets hot after 10 till 20 minutes of gaming.
Interesting to read this, I have a Note 8 atm and I play a lot of PUBG, I'm about to trade my Note 8 in for a Mate 10 Pro (Don't judge) as I'm a little bored of my phone now and annoyed of the poor battery life and awful mono speaker. The Mate 10 Pro ticks more boxes for what I require, so I'm hoping a software update will fix the FPS.
I don't play PubG but I do however play the recently released Asphalt 9 which as far as I know is pretty intensive and get minimal heat and it runs smooth for well over a hour, I don't notice any FPS drop, I haven't checked statistically what it's running at while playing but if the drop was severe then I'd definitely notice it

Thanks for this info, sounds like I should expect similar to what I get at the moment then, maybe an improvement once the update comes out to boost the GPU.
I used to play Shadow Fight 3. Till the release of update 142 it worked flawlessly, even on longer playing sessions....then,dunno what brains of Huawei did,it became unplayable.

Sounds to me that they like bringing out these new features, meaning these new features are "let's break something that worked perfectly before"...that's the gist I've got off these forums.....I'm hoping I'm not going to regret my decision now I've ordered the Mate 10 Pro
Exactly. That was my thought too.
But I'm keeping it cuz of job and unrivaled battery life. As a business phone it's flawless.

One of the main reason I'm moving to the Mate 10 Pro is for battery life, it'll be nice to have a phone that can last a whole day with heavy use, my last phone that did that was iPhone 6s Plus.

Fps drop bcause of overheat. the cpu and gpu will reduce the speed when reach certain temp to prevent soc chip die....if u are gamer, use smartphone cooler or buy rog phone

The power genius app, is it an app? Can u elaborate more on this? Need root to do this?

Gaming Lag

Recently I have started lagging while gaming and it was surprising since I was getting same fps as when I did lag.
Usually it starts good but after 5-10 minutes* it starts lagging and games are unplayable.
