I mean that, my minimum brightness is 20 I want to reduce it to 5

Sounds basically unusable, but different strokes for different folks and all that. What's wrong with using an app method? You might try and adapt this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576356 keeping in mind that where the stuff is at might be different depending on the phone and update you're on. Keep in mind you'll probably have issues installing apps at that brightness. Have seen it before when people are using methods to lower the brightness beyond normal - the install button is greyed out.

Yea, messing with Smali is difficult for beginners and many non beginners. Heh Using an app will make life much easier and much easier to revert settings if needed.

I use settings of 3 mins to dim backlight, 5 mins screen turns off.
I get what your saying though, you'd like some kind of backlight profile app so that you dont have to change the settings everytime right?
Now I want this too and its all your fault..............
Im off hunting, I'll let you know if I find anything......
Ive got a hunch that lumos might be capable of this but I tried it a few months and had some trouble installing it.....
Like I said, Ill let you know if I find anything...........
Didnt find anything.............. sorry......
Might be worth putting in a request in the themes and apps section..
Shouldnt be too difficult for a dev to create a little app to switch between backlight profiles, might even be possible with mortscript but I have no idea about these things.......

Find an application for this. Search the forum for application name KeepAwake. This should do the job. Better yet, here is the link for the original post to the application:

Screen to full brightness while charging?

I haven't been able to come up with a way to set my screen to full brightness while charging, and haven't found a solution with a search. I want it up as bright as it will go when the phone is in my car mount and plugged in, and I normally keep the brightness below 50% to save battery. It's a pain to switch the display setting each time I get in and out of the truck. I have Tasker, but I haven't been able to come with a way to do what I want with it yet, unless I'm missing something. Ideally, I'd have it automatically go to 100% with no timeout or dim when I plugged the phone in. Any suggestions?
I suggest getting a new phone.

Thanks, that's lots of help. But to be honest, if I was looking to get pointers from a prick, I'd still own an iPhone.

Just swipe the notification bar at the top of the screen left and right to change the brightness, no need to go to display settings.
I am on Fenny's ics rom and in developer settings it has stay awake while charging but it was in Tasks rom also I just can't remember where.
Edit...I just searched play store market for screen control and seen a paid app called screebl it has settings for brightness in portrait and landscape (slider controls) and also a box to tick to disable while docked. I am thinking you could set it up with those options.

You see, now THAT is a useful bit of advice; I didn't know about using that gesture. Thanks for that, I know I'll get a lot of use out of that info now, no more trying to navigate to settings when I walk out into the sun. However, I would like to find a way for the screen to go to full brightness when I plug it in.

I'm on Tasks ROM; the stay awake setting I can do, but if I'm not mistaken it will still dim the screen after a bit, won't it?
Yea just hold you're finger on the furthest right of the notification bar after you plug it in. only takes a second.

EXCELLENT!!! Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you, sir, I owe you a beer.
Your welcome. Will be using it myself. Having fun figuring out how to post links.

Nice find thanks for sharing.
That app works perfectly. Thanks OP for starting this thread. I have always manually adjusted, so it's nice to skip the steps....and thanks to adfurgerson for the link!!
And fyi, I don't know if it's my phone, but no matter how I swipe the notification bar to adjust brightness, it never goes to 100% brightness. I always check in settings afterwards, and it's at about 95%. Maybe I've been doing it wrong, but with the above mentioned app, I no longer need to wonder.

Just know that even if you're running the charging app mentioned above, if you're using the phone while charging, and its getting hot, the phone will dim the screen as needed, for protection.

Even as I'm posting in this thread, my screen is dimming/brightening every 10 seconds or so. Is this phone just not cut out for full bright while charging?

Is your auto-brightness turned on?
I'd be a lot happier with auto-brightness if I had more control over it, like if I could set the baseline for it to adjust from, and maybe change the adjustment frequency.

I never use auto...what I'm referring to is the phone's overheating protection. My phone is charging right now and it feels warm around the edge and just under the back camera lens. I'm sitting pretty close to a warm fireplace. I'm sure if I were outside (45F) the screen wouldn't be dimming.

[Q] [MOD REQUEST] Lower Minimum Brightness/Volume

At night even at 0% brightness I find the phone too bright and would like a way to lower it. I also think the minimum volume level is too loud to be comfortable in a quiet room and would like a method to lower that as well. My last request is a technique to seperate ringtone and notification volume levels. If any of these are actually possible through MODs without hobbled fixes by apps in the Play Store, I would love it! I'm running a modded stock non-deodexed ROM with unlocked bootloader and ROOT. Please help and thanks!

to lower the autobrightness values, everything is in /system/framework/framework-res.apk - res/values/arrays.xml

Thanks for the reply! Will modifying these values enable the phone to go lower than the stock 0% brightness? I don't use auto brightness and keep my DNA at 0% brightness most of the time, only going higher in sunlight.

I don't know if you'll consider this a "hobbled app" fix, but I've been using Power Toggles to substitute for my CM habit.
You can adjust notification and ringtone volumes from the notification drawer that way.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it out and while it does have separate sliders for the two volumes, it does NOT actually work. The two volumes are still tied together in practice. After ICS I think I've read its linked at a system or kernel level and I was hoping someone might work on a fix to address this. Also, referring to "hobbled" app fixes, I saw an app that used a workaround by switching to a custom ringtone to adjust that volume separately but was hoping for a streamlined system built in mod so that I don't have any extraneous apps or screens to delve into to adjust settings. I like minimalistic and debloat anything I dont use. Thanks again for the feedback.
i agree 100% with the sound being too loud, which has been an issue since ICS on even the Rezound...so i think their whole upgrade of the newer OS's made the volume louder. the rezound, on lowest sound level, was 20%..that's ridiculous, it should be half that, or around like 5%. even changing volume steps never worked because there was no lower volume.

how to get a lower brightness?

I want to reduce the minimal brightness from 20 to 10. Now I use the app YAAB, but can this easier?
I set in build.prop ro.lcd_min_brightness=10 and find this in /sys/class/backlight/panel/brightness correctly, but see no effect

Sorry, I gave too few info: I wonna stay on TW-base and there's only the slider, which doesn't make lower brightness than 20 (with the edits, I mentioned).
CM-, AOKP-roms offer manual adjustment and with that I got lower brightness.
I use this app when I'm reading something at night:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pt.bbarao.nightmode
You may invert color to turn whites into black and reduce screen consumption, w/o installing or tweaking anything
I use black themes and I can adjust brightness lower than 20 by an app. My question is&was: how can I simply adjust it by system-value?

Thanks for the suggestion, good tip
I'm running the recent SlimKat (OmniRom-based) now. But I don't get brightness lower than 20 by settings, too, even if I set in build.prop ro.lcd_min_brightness=5 and in brightness-settings 0lux /0%. Strange...
I found this xposed module, 'screen filter', works great!
Hello, I use this application called screen filter, hope you serve https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor
@bruno.filter: I use it, too. Slim and easy. @Joker87: I avoid xposed atm, because almost every discussion with dev's about any bug begins with 'if you use it, sorry...'

Brightness fixer app?

I bought a Honor8 a few days ago and while its a great phone, one of the best that was in my hand really, but truly annoys me that the brightess falls randomly.
As i read the threads about this problem it made me sad that as it seems Huawei doesn't really solves the problem, maybe they doesn't care about it, or just cant solve it, who knows...
I tried to search apps for brightness rate fix, or something like that, but didn't find a solution yet.
Maybe someone could write an app for this? Somekind of a background app that you set up a brightness rate and when it falls it automaticly takes it back to the level that fixed?
It would be better than nothing really.
If I understand correctly, you need an app that could adjust brightness based on the available light. And your complain is that stock EMUI doesn't manages it efficiently.
Well no problem, you can use Tasker to achieve this. Even though Tasker is paid, it is well worth the money. If you go with Tasker, reply here and I will send you a profile that could manage your brightness levels more efficiently.

Sorry, my english is not the best.
Not really, it's nothing to do with the available light or tasking. I do NOT use auto brightness, NEVER, so it should be on a fix rate until i manually adjust to another rate.
But when you start Chrome -for example- the system takes the screen's brightness down by ~20%. Sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it do every 3 minutes when you use chrome. You can take it back in the system MANUALLY, but it'll take it down again randomly, nobody knows why.
So the app i would need that for example: i fix the screen brightness rate to 100% in the app.
Then when the system takes it off the brightness to ~80% -> the app detects it, and automatically takes it back to the rate i fixed in the app before. And should do it in the background without a question or anything.
