Playlist Gone (GT-S7582)(CM11) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every time I connect my phone to my computer via USB even after I've disconnected my phone, the following 2 things happen (that I can tell): My ringtone goes back to "Default" (i'm using a custom one which is saved on the SD memory) and my music playlist (the only one i have) goes empty. No music file is missing, they're just removed from the playlist, and they, too, are on my SD memory.
What can i do to fix or circumvent the issue?
The problem is not that it happens while the phone is hooked on the computer, but that it persists AFTER i disconnect it. In other words, after disconnecting the phone, i have to manually rebuild my playlists and change the ringtone again. Is there a way for me to transfer data between PC and phone without having to "reconfigure" the phone after the process? Or better yet a way to use the USB normally without the "reconfiguring" having to take place?
Hope you give me a rply masters
Thank you

[Q] Windows complains about SD Card

Whenever I do a USB file transfer to my phone, Windows complains that there may be a problem with some files and offers to scan and fix the device. Should I let it, or just keep ignoring it?
Running CM7 on the phone and Windows7 on the pc, but it's been doing this for a while, even back on CommRom.
The reason it does that's is because either a) thereis a problem with the SD catftot b) you ate not ejecting it properly from your computer whenever you connect your phone to the PC. Most of the time the latter is the issue. You should let it run but also eject your device properly so you don't mess it up later

So I learned a very interesting tidbit about a year ago. The problem with flash memory is that if the power is disconnected during a WRITE operation, it will kill it (almost definitely). However, if you are only doing a READ operation (copy from device to computer, reading a TXT file, etc), then it is safe to pull the drive at any time.
The long and short of it is that After you have copied files to your phone, Windows continues to write excess data in the background, even after the file transfer dialog has gone away. And on my old mp3 player (Cowon S9) this led to many tears for a lot of people.
So always always always tell your family members who don't know the difference b/t WRITE and READ to simply ALWAYS "safely remove" their flash media.
Thanks folx, I'll let Windows have its way with the card next time it wants to.

help! pc no longer recognising phone :(

can anyone help? my pc is no longer recognising the phone when it's connected by usb.
i just want to be able to add/remove some music files and backup my photos, but the pc just says "searching phone".
i've tried manually deleting some music using astro, which has messed thigns up even further, because the music files are gone, but the music player app still thinks they're there
i think im going to do a total restore if i can get the thing connetced so that i can backup my photos :S
frustrating...i bought this phone because i had so many issues with my old htc, and now i'm getting issues again already with this phone
when i first got it a couple of weeks ago it was flawless, smooth, eerthing was great, except battery.....but already things are going wrong
so, after much research, i have managed to get the pc to recognise the phone to an extent by clearing data on mtpapp
problem is, even with a virtually empty phone, it's taking around 20 minutes after connection before the internal storage is recognised.
and even then, it is basically inaccessible still
i can "see" all the files in explorer, but as soon as i go to copy things to or from the phone, it gets part way through the process then freezes up completely so that i need to restart windows explorer
is there no way to make the phone have a siple drag and drop interface that actually works? christ, even my wildfire s was easier than this!

[Q] Disappearing music

Hi.
I have strange problem. After connecting my razr to PC, there is a 50% chance that my music will disappear from SD card. That happened again today. Is this some bug in app or in firmware?
Music sync is disabled in MDM, and nothing else will disappear from the memory card. 2.3.6 nonefigsretail
Do you mean that your music player no longer sees any music? Or you've used a file explorer to browse the files on your Razr and the music files are actually gone?
Is the USB Connection set to "mass storage" or Media Device? If it's mass storage, then you won't have access to the internal nor external SD card within your phone until you disconnect or switch to media device.
I've noticed with Media Device, things are not always available. For example, if I go into the phone directly while connected to my PC and I delete files, it won't show up in windows explorer unless I disconnect and connect back. I believe it has to do with the synching not having completed yet.
I guess when you mean "disappear" do you mean it's physically deleted from your phone where it's not there anymore after you disconnect?
Player see only empty info, that there are all albums, but music catalog is empty.
No, all the music simply disappearing from the card. Before connecting the phone to the computer, I checked the contents of the folder with the music and there were 4 GB of data. Connection option was set as "charge only", but somehow my computer sees it and run MDM. After checking is there maybe ICS (yeah, right) and removing from PC the entire contents disappeared.
Ed. Ok, ICS leak installed, so I think the problem is solved in some way.

Problem transferring files via USB

Hey guys,
So I'm trying to transfer all my music from my Prime onto a desktop, but every so often the file copy/transfer will stop and I have to start it again, copying the files which haven't already been copied. This is nothing new to me, it happens when I would transfer a large amount of data in one go like when transferring movies from my external hard drive - after a while the transfer will stop. I'm seeking help for this now because it's starting to get frustrating, as it means I can't leave the computer because I have to keep starting the process again.
Does anyone know why this happens, and what can be done to stop it? Is there some kind of time-out function in the Prime that stops things when it's been idle for a certain period of time?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
I had the same problems with the USB (copying from/to USB stick) and also noticed it SD cards. See also my thread [Q] Bugs in file manager app.
Somehow either Android or the ASUS internal storage device can't handle large data transfers...

Z5 Compact - Slow USB file access on Windows 10

On two different Windows 10 computers at home, I've had a bit of struggle trying to access the storage on my Z5C (running Nougat .376 UK firmware). I was trying to copy over some new music to the 200GB Sandisk microSD card, but Windows would continually hang and eventually give up even on just browsing folders. I could unplug the phone and try again but with no success. I popped out the microSD card and put it in an adapter and there wasn't any issue copying files over.
Anyone else ever notice Windows having difficulties accessing files on the phone? For what it's worth, I've almost always done firmware updates via Xperia Companion over USB without any problems, so it seems to be specifically related to file transfer/browsing.

make sure the screen doesn't turn off, enable developer options and check do not turn off display on charge
(i feel like MTP gets capped out at 20MB/s or something....from external SD --> internal bus rate??) for really really big transfers 8GB+, I usually remove my SD and use the SD reader, it should be OK if you have a good USB reader that can read the full speed of your card.
Sounds like a new USB cord is needed.
NeoBeum this is not really required to transfer files
*make sure the screen doesn't turn off, enable developer options and check do not turn off display on charge*
genuine?
try sd insight from play store see if ur sdcard is genuine
To all:
Is there a reason why not allowing the screen to sleep would help with file transfer speed back to a PC?
I've tried a couple different USB cables with similar results.
Card is genuine and as mentioned it transfers at full speed when using a SD card adapter and plugging in directly to the PC.

& @doclloyd
not really, no (don't really need to enable always on screen), but if some users have problems, i just recommend to do that so they can walk away from the tx, and come back without the screen turning off
the z5c has a tendency to temporarily turn off MTP when the display sleeps, you'll be able to tell, because the files on the PC - will contain 0 data, but still appear in the destination
at the moment i'm looking at MTP Host and the other USB services on the phone to see if it will behave better with battery optimisation disabled
edit: if the phone locks @ sleep, it will disable MTP, I have never successfully transferred while my phone locks itself, smartlock can be another workaround for this, unlock with PC

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try next time I need to copy files over to the phone (usually new music) and see what happens.
