Pretty happy with this! With a good screen protector/skin i think i should be fine for the rare times it is dropped.
Happy? They're both awful ...
Just backs up my reasoning for a good hard case and glass screen protector. We'll have to see if otterbox makes one for this.
That video *ONLY* proves two things.
1) The chances that your phone will be damaged, and the amount of said damage, are equally proportionate to the height your phone falls from.
2) Gravity does indeed work.

I agree, but it's time to get on the jumbo train me thinks. All the top spec'd devices are biggies. I love the size of my iPhone 6, and before that I had the similarly sized GS3. I ordered a 6P to give it a try. It may very well be a failed experiment in the end, but at least I'll know first hand what I can tolerate in terms of size.

because this phone cost literally 50% of what I pay in rent so yes tempered screen protector and case are already on their way.
I'm actually impressed here. The only thing that scratches Glass is something harder. Metal isn't doing it in general without significant force. It's softer. Silica, sand and dirt, is death. That's why you always keep your pockets clean. Dropping it on asphalt or concrete is the worst situation as even if you don't crack it the chance of silica grinding into the glass to scratch or chip it is great. The added force factor and cracking or outright shattering is increased in chance.
These phones held up pretty well being dropped on asphalt. I pancaked my N5 onto a sidewalk screen down at about waist height (I'm 6'2") and it shattered. I had gotten lucky in the past and it landed on sides or back with little consequence.

It's amazing what these devices can, and can't, take.
Had my n5 run over by a tractor at the golf course. Just 1 front wheel, but was face down in the short grass. All ok, but I did notice the flash points down a bit further than it used to.
Also left it on the back of a golf cart. And of course it stayed on for about 370 yards only to fall off face down right at the beginning of the crushed granite cart path. That left a nice deep 1/4 inch gash in the screen, but fortunately was off the viewable area.
Had a few other drops on hardwood floors, but it's still holding up pretty well for 2+ years old - no case or screen protector.

Yeah.. Mine is just now starting to look a little worn for various reasons. The panel is nice again since brand new. But previous to that sidewalk screen flop it still looked mint. It's pretty much all down to keeping dirt out of your pockets and not wiping dirt off since that can also grind it in. Always blow it off carefully.

Yeah I'm not sure why anyone would spend money on a pretty aluminum phone if they are just going to put a pick plastic case over it.

I was very disappointed to see the matte finish wear off after only a few weeks on my HTC one x. With this one I'm thinking that the back may be a scratch magnet. Anyone have significant scratching on the back yet?
in pouch all the time, no chance to scratch it
Carry mine naked (the phone not me) and not a single mark on it yet. It may be to soon to tell but so far so good..
I panicked when I realized that my keys were in the same pocket as my phone. But not a scratch yet.

No scratches on the body, but like the guy before me I accidently dropped my phone into my pocket with keys, I got a couple small little nicks on the bezel but you can only see them on an angle. I'm going to see if I can polish them out. I googled it and saw that a normal kitchen sponge with the one rough side gets them out, Also heard toothpaste and just ordered some aluminum polish.
Other people only noticed when I show them, and my GF said I have severe OCD because the nicks are so tiny. She is right. It's not really noticeable to anyone but me, but it's driving me insane!

If the thing is going to looked chipped to hell in a month from normal use, I'll just return it now. My s3 started to chip the silver rim and I got rid of it immedaitely. I can't stand something that looks like crap for no reason whatsoever, actual damage is one thing but come on....

If it's a dummy version, it's clearly made with less resilient materials. The dummy model at my local Walmart looks terrible while the real phone at my local AT&T store is flawless.

This isn't one of those times. The buttons on the dummy phone are not usable, it's ridiculously light, and the feel is somewhat different. The real phone was sturdier and had functional buttons, of course. They were both set out on the same day in each store and the dummy looks terrible now while the real phone looks perfect. It's a pretty decent indicator of the dummy phone being made with cheaper materials.

I just don't believe that HTC would have spent the time to assemble a phone that isn't going to be functional since it apparently takes a lot of time to assemble the aluminum body for the HTC One.

No scratches on the aluminium surface but the beats audio red logo and writing have almost disappeared. White 'audio' writing still there.
I dropped my One on hardwood and it rolled over onto a brick ramp (I was at the entrance to a restaurant) and skidded down it on its back. There are some deep scratches on the back and scuffs, but it's okay. Definitely want to put a case on it if you plan on using it out on the street

The matte finish wears off much more easily because the material was plastic. Microscopically, a matte finish is just an unpolished, jagged surface. Since it's plastic, it's not hard enough to be able to withstand the forces exerted on it when rubbed by your pocket/hand/table long enough so it gets polished over time (check out a computer mouse that's been used for a long time). This is completely different than scratching or chipping, which is a complete removal or deformation of the material. The nice thing about plastic is that because it's soft, it's much easier for hairline scratches to "heal" over time as the surface gets rubbed on.
The aluminum back will definitely maintain the matte finish better than plastic because it is a harder material. Drawback is that since it's harder, it's also more brittle so it's more subject to chips/nicks and hairline scratches will stick around forever.
TL : DR Material properties are a *****. The matte finish (it's actually a bead blasted finish) will stick around for awhile as long as your hands/table/pockets aren't made of sandpaper or things harder than aluminum.

Haven't broken the screen but the frame of this phone is crap coming from Motorola. It's hit the ground twice from less than 3 feet and has 3 rather large dents in the housing. Once was falling off the seat in my car to a rubber all season floor mat which shouldn't do crap but left a dent. I'll give samsung the nod on internal hardware but the chassis is awful. A friend of mine dropped his from about waist high onto the edge and shattered his screen.

I have a pretty extensive history with Motorola and have come to the same conclusion. I had my phone on my bed and accidentally dropped my belt on the top right corner of the phone and it left a noticeable indention. I immediately went out and bought a case for the phone even though I've never worried about one with any previous phone.

I carry my new phones around like they're a newborn child, won't put it in a pocket that has anything else in it or near the desk/nightstand edges. It's all about minimizing risks - like not trying to carry too many things at once.
With that being said, there's a 100% chance I'll drop this phone at some point. My GS3 survived a couple major drops with a few small dents in the corner .... as much as I like the look/feel of the GS4 a million times more than the GS3, I feel like the reduced bezel size and straight/rigid edges won't be as durable.
Get a case guys!

Of course like I said... haven't dropped it. I plan on picking up that Neo Hybrid as well, its gorgeous! :good::highfive:
So, I've been reading all the news on the 6P---cracking glass, "flexible" backs, easy scratches. I normally carry my phones in my back pocket and never intend sitting with it there. However, I'm sure there have been a few occasions when I've sat and very quickly notice it's there and removed it. Well, tonight I was admiring my little graphite and noticed what appeared to be a very slight bend. I couldn't believe it---thought it was an optical illusion so I set it down on my desk and then saw it. My phone no longer was flat against the desk top. A very slight wobble had developed.
WTF.
I've had soooo many phones and never had this happen before. I had the Nexus 6 and still have the iphone 6s Plus. So, I'm not stranger to big phones. I haven't treated this phone any differently. Every phone has been in a case too. Currently, I'm using a ringke case on my 6P. I guess I'll keep it and just baby the **** out of it. I was able to gently bend it back, but now I'm concerned all the news is true. Cheap chinese crap.

I think there's a lesson to be learned here.
After seeing the bend thread I tried my iPhone 6 + and my Nexus 6, the former I've had since only March and don't use as my daily driver, both phones when flat on the table will wobble when you press them, in fact the iphone is actually noticeably bent. I think slight bends have been happening for years we just haven't noticed them.

I agree with you on "slight bends have been happening for years we just haven't noticed" Just checked on my iPhone6+ and yeah it doesn't sit flat on may table (check the table and the table is flat). I have never put it in my back pocket, but I'm pretty sure the constant pressure from being in a back pocket would speed up the "bending" process even more so if the pants are tight.

Wow, just been to carphone warehouse and had a look at a demo unit, and give it a gentle flex when nobody was looking, and it "went" around the buttons just like everyone else's, so not impressed now, gorgeous looking phone, but I have a 4 year old, and she would ruin that phone. Just to be fair I also had a good go at trying to bend my Note 3, and it didn't budge. I'm shocked the 6p was so soft! Wish LG would hurry up and release the v10 in the UK so I can have a go at that one too.

That demo unit has probably had every person, including strong people, trying to bend it now that there a tool posting FUD videos. I wouldn't trust it. Mine is extremely solid, can't budge it with modest effort. Obviously I'm not going to try with all my strength, that would be idiotic.

Yup, with the additional length of this phone, even in deep front pockets, I've caught myself having to stop when sitting to readjust as the phone catches a bit on my hip. Pulled out the phone several times to notice it looks slightly tweaked. Laying down on the table it rocks. Push just ever so slightly on the two corners that wobble and it straightens out.
It's clearly got some flexing but if it's not a permanent bend, nor impacts the functionality of the phone, what's the big deal? Just tweak it if it bothers you.
This phone is tough I don't know why people are claiming it is bending or breaking easily.
Last night I dropped my phone from face height onto concrete. A loud bang as it hit the ground and the Sim card came flying out. I assumed it was dead.
Picked up the phone and no broken glass anywhere. Not even a scratch.
Popped the sim back in and it is working fine.
Only two little chips in the paint job on one corner of the phone from that brutal drop. Posted pics of the little cosmetic damage on top right of phone.
Tested camera and no issues. Can't believe this huge screen and the camera glass survived a five+ foot drop onto concrete in the rain!
Sorry photo quality is lacking. I had to use my wife's iPhone to take the pics
mine folded in half then did a back spin and blew up into a million pieces, this was after a lighter was put to the screen accidentally just before i dropped it
On a serious note, good to see that it can withstand a bit of damage! I have mine in a case and a glass screen protector so hopefully im covered

mine folded in half then did a back spin and blew up into a million pieces, this was after a lighter was put to the screen accidentally just before i dropped it

For the same reason you just claimed it's tough. There's lucky, unlucky, and somewhere in between. One thing I've learned about the internet is no one likes the middle option. Either the phone is durable, or the phone is trash, but never the middle. Things are assumed based on one event on either side of the spectrum.
That's good to see actually but I'm still too worried to use it without a case. It looks like it was a corner drop too, those are the worst!
Still rockin' that serial number sticker though... heh.

That's how you know it's real
I've dropped mine three times so far.
Twice onto carpet and once onto floorboards probably from about two feet each time.
Haven't got a mark..
Not saying its indestructible but its definitely not delicate
So you're telling me you dropped you phone and it didn't shatter the gorilla glass, or bent in half as a result.
This will surely drive those people freaking out about the quality of the build nuts. Lol

I've dropped mine 3-4 times from 1m. Back glass has a crack in the middle now not visible very good but the glass panel in the back definetely splitted in 2. No influence on function and it holds in olace for now...

I smell a conspiracy, I bet you're secretly being paid by Huawei and or Google to counteract all the recent bending & shattering hysteria ?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
To be honest I really think it's media fueled hysteria. They should just check the numbers and statistics. If it's 1 in 10000 devices then it's just nohing...

All the cool kids keep the stickers on the phone. It's like the nerd equivalent of keeping the sticker on your baseball hat.
you are in good luck, i will put on a case as soon as i get mine
But interwebs sez fone desentigrates on contakt.
I think since the front glass is recessed a bit it would take a big drop directly on the glass to shatter. So basically you have to be unlucky
I dropped mine yesterday onto the kitchen floor from at least 4 feet, probably higher. No damage at all, not even a scratch. I have a case and screen protector on order, but they haven't arrived yet.
It seems like I drop every phone I get before I can get a case on it.

This happened to me once. I had a Nexus 5 and MotoX 2013. Was testing them to decide which I liked best. I was using the twist to launch feature showing off to some friends and the Moto slipped from my hands as I was saying something about how grippy it was. Little did I know, the case I ordered was delivered that day and was sitting in my mailbox. MotoX was fine just dinged on the corner.
Since then I've gotten all my cases before the phones arrived. My 6P. Hasn't been naked since I unboxed it. I just slide part of the case open when I sim swap lol

Are you sure your gorilla glass 4 on your visor didnt spontaneously break right after? I mean right after you dropped it but then decided to place it on the table. When you walked away you didnt hear it crack on its own?
While placing my 6P flat on my desk I noticed it isn't siting flat. I can push on the top left corner and it raises the bottom right corner. Anyone else notice any sort of bending / warping? does it with or without case.
Phone still works but makes me question the build quality. Guess I'm too used to Moto's durability..

I have a SLIGHT warp on the bottom right of the phone. I called Huawei about it and they said it was covered by the manufacturer warranty. In my case it's not really that bad so I have no reason to RMA. But I will should it get worse. So far it hasn't.

It's been discussed in other bend treads.
Seems like all of them are like that. You can make it straight by pushing it opposite way.
Happens to me after keeping the phone in front jeans pocket.
Happened when tried to take a spigen case off.

Well you might have some luck with that, be very very careful doing that. That's a quick way to get a cracked screen. I know Gorilla Glass has a lot of flex in it and isn't the most brittle thing in the world, but it's still glass. Just my two cents, I haven't had this issue, but I will be keeping an eye on it as well.

I have done it at least 10 times now
I push very gently, no way the screen can crack with this little force GG4 is much more flexible tha n GG3 so should be OK

That is the main reason I'm thinking of returning mine. My first 6P bent around the power button. My replacement has been fine, I've kept it in the speck case Google sells, but still a phone( metal or not) shouldn't warp from being used or being stored in the front pocket. Should we really be having to un-warp our phones? It's not normal.

My 6P is perfectly flat when face down on a granite countertop with no case.
If this was the iPhone that bent like this, alot of the android fan boys would be up in arms saying how much apple sucks, but since it's android we are willing to unbend our phones. Doesn't make alot of sense
I know it doesn't.
But comparing the way iPhone bent to Nexus is a bit different. Iphone bent quite badly. To be honest if my screen protector didn't peel on one side when I took my phone out of the pocket I would never thought to check if its bent lol
It does not affect everyday use by any way. Nor you can see it.
Note: it was first couple of hours since protector was applied that's why it peeled. Doesn't happen anymore
Saying that all are like that I meant they all prone to that slight body movement.

exactly. enough said.
This is unacceptable, and we shouldn't be okay with it, or accepting it.
I mean it's a great looking phone, but by no means is the build quailty great. Kinda of like IKEA stuff, looks good, but not really that strong.
i noticed mine had a slight torque to it. it hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it. i'm thinking one week before the protect expires i'll be buying a $79 N6P.

My OnePlus One is also warped like this, in fact I have had 2 OPOs, and both have done this.

I'm not saying I have an issue! Nowhere do I say that. The previous 6P I had was bent around the power button, which I took photos of in another thread on this forum. I'm saying that alot of folks are complaining About the softness of the metal , which I have experienced first hand, which is also why I use the speck case now and I'm saying that it's not right that this phone is so soft. Check the other threads and you will see my photos.

I don't know if my OPO was slightly bend. Never looked for it and never checked.
That's what I meant before, most people don't even know their phone is slightly bend cause they don't look for it. They don't notice it since it does not affect everyday use
