So I've been trying to play around with my new VZW V10.
There's no OEM Unlock Option in the developer tools - not surprising.
However, I can't even get to boot into the stock bootloader?
This is my first LG Device, but neither VOL UP + POW worked or "adb reboot bootloader" Both instances go straight into the red screen.
Any other VZW V10 users have better luck than me?
I got a Verizon V10 today too, do you think at least we can get the root access?
So for now it appears that only the T-Mobile one can unlock the bootloader and install TWRP and SuperSU for root. If it can't happen on the Verizon V10, then I'll be keeping th Note 4 Dev a bit longer, or change over to T-Mobile as I'm getting tired of Verizon locking up all their new phones.

That's probably because VZW has disabled fastboot mode altogether. The lack of the OEM unlock option indicates they don't want you unlocking the bootloader. Unless someone creates a pre-rooted system image than be flashed via download mode, this is pretty much a brick wall
If you do obtain root it will probably be difficult to keep root once MM drops. I am pretty sure you won't be able to downgrade back to lollipop either.
Given VZW history, does any of this really surprise anyone.......the handwriting has been on the wall since they patched the Loki exploit on the Samsung S4.
Trust me make the jump to T mobile. I was a Verizon customer for over 15 years still had 2 lines unlimited data. They were going to raise me to 60 a month just for the data. Made the jump to T mobile and having looked back. Verizon didn't even call me or nothing. What a joke
also all I can get into is download mode.

T-Mobile has improved their network a lot in the last few years. If you don't get coverage than that is understandable a phone carrier is only as good as the service you get. Where I live i tend to get faster speeds than VZW and At&t.
A Stagefright exploit or a new version of the low effort root from the G4 is your best bet. Once you get root, you may be able to branch out and get the rest uncovered.

T-Mobile now has the second best coverage next to Verizon, but they are catching up fast. Considered the fastest improving network and America's fastest LTE. They're goal is is to cover 100% of the US with LTE, and according to reports they have plenty of money to do it. T-Mobile is sinking Sprint and AT&T. Voice quality is great now. They use VOLTE and HD voice. Check this out http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage.html
I used to be a Verizon customer no doubt their network is the best, however they charge to much and restrict phones. I been with Tmo 2years and never looked back.

Blah blah we get it. T-Mobile gets all the unlocked love. But most the people interested in this thread dont need to be reminded of that fact. We're with vzw either because of coverage or unlimited data usage. If the grass truely was greener on the other side I promise u we would have switched already and this thread never would have existed.

To get into download mode, with power off, hold volume up and plug usb cable in. After it starts you can let volume go. Cable connected to pc. It's like the g3 and g4. Recovery mode is power and volume down. This is how I do it.

Cool thanks! I'm new to LG, I've thought fastboot and download mode were the same thing with two different names! Crazy to me that we can't even get into fastboot mode.
Hopefully the people smarter than me are interested in this phone

I was using T-mobile up until a year ago along side my vzw. The fast data was slowed after a little usage and call quality was horrible. Calls would drop too often. They only have good coverage around large cities. You can stop with your PR rep BS because Tmobile is not that great of a service.

Hello All-
I have Att i777 sim unlocked, and it is now on Tmobile svc.
Im not too sure about the APN settings I should put in there to make

Does anyone have any tips for me?
Thank you!

You're only going to get their 2G data network cause the chipset in our phone doesn't support their 42MBPS HSPA network.
Okay, thanks!
No big deal for me. I have 10mbps at home and T1 at office. Dont really need a fast phone.
Stupid att and their bull**** shnianigans. I told them they better fix their act up. Bull**** customer service reps that all say "I can only do so much" yadda yadda yadda... Guess what, I finally got my free phone from ATT (i777 out of contract) and canceled service immediately after and went to tmobile. I dont really give a rats ass about speed either. Reception is way better in my area which is all I need. I have a company cell phone for travel. Im still paying less for my phone and my wifes brand new phone with unlimited everything when compared to ATT and their piss poor service for the one line.
I plan to convert the whole company eventually as well. Which is going to be even funnier because one rep told me "Good luck trying that"... (I work for SONY)
See, the issue is, people get big and rich and think they are so bad ass and they think no one can touch them... This is what happened at my work. Now I have a better position, and I am still sticking to my roots. Let this be a lesson to everyone. Im just a stupid ass no body that gets business done
root that phone!

Pshhhhh that **** was rooted & sim unlocked before the fedex driver left my driveway. I was planning this since nov last year just waiting to get back from japan. Now AOKP on T-Mobile...and I'm getting att spam mail ever since lol
Hey friend, I have a magicsim adapter and have both AT&T and T-Mobile. I've had no problems with the following for working data and voice (not tried mms).
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1976
Also, fair warning, if you're roaming in AT&T's network (which is practically everywhere I go since T-mo sucks), you won't have a data connection of any sort. You can tell which network you're actually on if you go into "About phone -> Status"
Why even bother using T-Mobile if I don't mind asking. Ever since At&t backed out on buying T-Mobile, I don't see the point of even using them as a carrier, yes I know at&t sold them bandwidth for roaming on their network so your service will get better. But why T-Mobile?

ok so i flashed cyanogen mod on my phone, everything running cool, even ran galaxy unlock pro (paid 5 bucks) to unlock my phone. it unlocked alls is technically peachy, except with my t-mobile sim card it keeps saying emergyency calls only. i have 3 different apn's to choose from(all tmobile) but each time i select one and return to the home screen nothing changes.

wanna unlock ? do this
i777UCKH7-CL503881-No-BL file google it 276mb zipped
single file unzipped with mfc logo 512mb
turn phone off
install kies to pc reboot pc
plug usb to pc then with phone off hold vol up and down at same time while plugging in usb ..download mode comes on screen
press vol up
now right click the mfc logo 512mb unzipped file
run as admin
app comes up on screen if no yellow connected icon appears in one of the blanks just unplug usb replug back in
see yellow connect icon ?
make sure phone battery 40-70% charged
now hit run sit back and wait
you will uploaded to a no bootloader rom with cwm recovery and root already done
when reboots your good to go rooted if bootloop enter recovery wipe cache and system ..do not do the wipes if your on custom kernals n junk I hear errors and emmc brick idk if it applies to 2.3.4 but do at own risk if you come from a custom kernel u will have to make sure it all is not custom I guess
now find the helroz galaxy s unlock apk google its on xda somewhere
verify you have root and go to market and download busybox let it load then install I advise after install to reboo phone
now with busy box a rooted phone and 2.3.4 you can download the helroz galaxy s unlock app should have purple menus
its not in store anymore eu have to find the apk online transfer to phone and uncheck the install from other sources in settings
now run it click back up efs
then click unlock
be patient and do not have a sim in while doing this
this will hang maybe for 30sec or so even if it says unresponsive it the wait for app opton itwill eventually do its work and be done or auto reboot your phone after words go back to app and click the done 3rd button
reboot again and verify your unlocked
just did it myself but I acc did a odin root app before I member this 1st file is perooted so now I don't have yellow triangle but it says 1 custom binary I try with cwm to go to aokp and use triangle away but didn't work so fear of issue I just left it alone no more triangle now after reverting back to stock 2.3.4 unrooted but whatever don't care to go jerking it around

where did you get your phone from? I have an at&t phone that just went out of contract, got the unlock code from them and popped in a tmo sim. I can only get edge connection like everyone is stating in this thread. Is there a separate modem file that you flashed? Is it possible to flash a different modem file to access tmo's 3g and up networks?
Hello Community,
I recently purchased a used HTC Droid DNA on eBay. The user couldn't tell me very much about the phone beyond describing it's exterior condition to me. I didn't have to play with this phone for very long before I realized what a pleasurable device this would be to use, especially for someone upgrading from a Motorola Bionic. HOWEVER, it also wasn't very long into my usual customizations that I realized, that like my Bionic early on, doing anything fun on this phone is a son-of-a-*****.
I want to eventually root this phone, flash Cyanogenmod, and then flash it to Pageplus Cellular, but first things first. I really don't want to wait 5 days for a AT&T SIM card to get here from Minnesota or wherever, so does anyone know of a way I can tell if this device is already unlocked? Perhaps someone knows of an application or some other software than can tell me, or maybe there is something in the phone's settings? Anything at all would be nice.
Thank you,
Jack2402 =)
If you boot into the boot loader (turn off device and hold power and vol down) it should say s on or s off. That's the best way to tell, you are looking for s off. Moonshine will get you unlocked and s off though really easily

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you telling me how to unlock saftey? Isn't that different from unlocking the SIM so I can flash it Pageplus? Or am I confused. Forgive me, I've rooted several phones and I've flashed one phone but I've never had to unlock one because I usually purchase them from sellers who already know there're unlocked.

It's sim unlocked. Your best bet is to wait for your sim to arrive put it in and just change the apn settings to match page plus to get mms. Once you do that you should be good to go.
As for flashing and rooting it's actually easy thanks to beaups and the moonshine process he created for getting s off.
Head over to the development section and it's stickeyed
Run moonshine and follow the easy steps and you will get an s off phone and unlocked bootloader. After that load a custom recovery and then back up with a nandroid backup and flash any rom or kernel of your choosing.

Actually, for the last year or so, every LTE device that I've been aware of from VZW has come SIM unlocked, included DNA and Iphone 5. I think VZW isn't too afraid of people leaving, and if they do, they have a nasty ETF they can hit you with. And ding your credit if you don't pay it. And if you already have bad credit, then VZW already has a hefty deposit. So, yeah.

It's not quite that easy to get mms working. Verizon's stock ROM uses a whitelist for APN types and will not allow a MMS APN at all, you can enter the settings but they will be lost and MMS will NOT work, spent 2 hours on the phone with AT&T support working on this very issue.
If you're going to use the DNA on a GSM carrier for daily use, it's best to flash something like NOS M7 GSM version as this will allow the proper APN to be set up and mms will work. Once I switched to a ROM meant for GSM carriers, I have found MMS to be 100% reliable.

Yeah, I see. No, what I meant about the AT&T SIM card was that people use differing carrier SIMs to find out if their phone is unlocked. I didn't want to wait on eBay to send me an AT&T SIM to see if my Verizon is unlocked.

You will need to do some digging to find a guide (or pay for a service) to flash it to PagePlus. The ability to flash from Verizon to PagePlus is unrelated to the locked status of the SIM slot. I believe you will only get 3G on PagePlus, as well.
Yes, the SIM slot is unlocked for use on GSM carriers, but that won't matter if you're looking to flash to PagePlus.

Hello forum-goers! It seems that I am at a crossroad right now. I have been researching switching to T-mobile for the past few months now (I was sold on the Wi-Fi calling feature). I just had a few questions before doing so.
1) Would you guys recommend switching over to T-Mo now or should I wait for the new, new to to switch over (I haven't owned an HTC since the Touch Pro 2 and the One is a pretty sweet device).
2) Does anyone have the insurance/JUMP program, I am pretty clumsy with my phone so I have the insurance with Sprint on my current Samsung Galaxy S II? Would you recommend getting a different type of insurance (like SquareTrade)?
3) Does anyone have any experience using this device in the SF Bay Area? I have heard plenty of good news, but it's mostly in different states.
4) I was flashing ROMs on the Touch Pro 2 (Windows Mobile 6.x) and the E4GT is my first Android phone, what is the learning curve with HTC Android devices?
I don't have much to add but I will say WiFi calling is great to have considering T Mobile's poor building penetration. Sending and receiving text is not an issue but when having an actual phone conversation the other party can't hear you to a few seconds after you said it and the whole conversation sometimes become awkward and confusing deciding who needs to speak next, but its serves its purpose.
As far as the jump program goes its really not a bad idea as long as you get approve for no money down on the original headset or else it really makes jump seems like a bit of a rip off considering you could sell the phone yourself outright and not lose out on the initial deposit you made on the phone.

i just switched from sprint to T-Mobile and havent looked back once. was worth the 180 ETF. I really really wanted to stay with sprint but their service just kept getting worse and worse as they "upgraded" towers. I do have the jump program and i dont see why you want to use a different insurance. its ten bucks for full insurance (sprint was 11 or 12 now i think) plus it allows you to upgrade every 6 months if you wanted to. I have the ONE and i really dont see myself upgrading anytime unless something amazing comes out. The phone really is fantastic.
I'm in NJ so no experience in SF.
Flashing is pretty simple once you do the initial setup which there is self contained programs here in forums that can help simplify that for you. right now im still on stock because i really like the wifi calling and most other roms beyond 4.2.1 dont support it yet. hopefully in the next month the update will be out.
hope this helps a bit.

I ended up pulling the trigger and so far the experience is great.
Stock, out-the-box the device is fantastic, I've never seen something so fluid without some tweaking done to it.
The service in my house is a bit similar to Sprint but WiFi calling negates that. When traveling around I get 4GLTE pretty much every where I go. I have yet to try it in my work environment, but since that is in SF I'm sure I won't have any problems. The only thing is, I signed up for the 2 GB plan. I've never really tracked my data usage since Sprint was unlimited, so I'll just have to wait and see if that is enough.
I am still reading up on how to flash the device, it's a completely different process from my old E4GT. But I am definitely excited to be onto something new and can't wait until I am able to figure out the whole process.
Thank you both for responding to my questions!

No kernel needed. I assume you're going to get the T-mobile One and not keep the S4 right? Then yeah, no kernel needed. I am using the $30/month 100 min/5G-4G Data. Since for prepaid, t-mobile wifi calling still eats minutes......I've swapped to using Groove IP + Google Voice for all my needs. Ported my old Sprint # To Google Voice for $20.00 and have been happy ever since.
Just have to make sure to setup Google Voice app to get all SMS's and call or chat with T-mobile CS to turn off T-Mobile voicemail, as prepaid cannot forward to google voice properly as post paid.
All in all, I'm very happy with T-mobile, and will never, ever miss sprint. Ever.

No kernel needed. I assume you're going to get the T-mobile One and not keep the S4 right? Then yeah, no kernel needed. Just root, install twrp/cwm and flash any rom you want from the international XDA section. Its what I've done (except I have the att model unlocked to tmobile) and it works great. You can even flash the Google play edition roms too.

Thanks for the reply I'm still debating on getting a tmo s4 or a tmo htc one but my current s4 laggs alot so the htc one seems like the better phone. Also how's the battery life?

I'm also considering moving to tmobile 99% chance I will. I currently have a sprint s4 so how would you flash the international roms? Just flash it then flash a kernel like on the S4 or just flash the rom. Thanks.

Coming from the Sprint GS 2 E4GT, flashing seemed so easy, with all the videos from QBKing77, the thorough guides on how to flash the phone, even the super easy one-clicks, flashing was a cake walk. After reading guides on how to flash the HTC One, I thought that I was going to end up bricking my phone.
Luckily I was able to find some videos from Flow Wolf and QBKing77 which basically walks you through the steps on Unlocking the Bootloader, obtaining root, and flashing the recovery. From there, flashing the ROM works just like it does on Samsung devices, with the exception of having to flash the kernel separately.
Last night I flashed TrickDroid 5.6.0 due to many people saying that you are still able to maintain WiFi Calling. So far, I'm loving it!

I've never had the S4 so I cant compare it to that. Its not great, but It will get you through the day fine.
I picked this phone up for $50. The first thing I did before buying it was check the IMEI. Swappa said it was ready for activation and not blacklisted. I check most of the stickies and Q&As, but I just want to make sure I don't jump the gun and do something stupid. So I guess this is where my questions fall into place.
1. I want to activate this on Metro PCS, Is this even possible? I have an Exhibit on their network but it takes a full sized SIM. If so, what do I need and how?
2. I want to unlock the bootloader and the SIM slot. Some people have said the Verizon s4 is already SIM unlocked but I honestly couldn't find a straight answer, and since the SIM card I have for my Exhibit is full sized, I can't test it.
Actually, I guess those were my only questions. If you need any additional information from me about the phone just let me know. The last phone I messed with was an Xperia Play and by the looks of it, it's much easier to work with compared to the s4.

For one you cannot unlock the bootloader. For $50 though I would take it.

Why am I not able to unlock the bootloader?
There is no method available and Verizon will not do it.

You can use it on metropcs by simply inserting the sim and putting in the APN settings, but beware that you "as is" the phone has lte/cdma option or gsm/umts or global. For lte on tmobile network, you have to select lte/cdma BUT you only get LTE, no 2G or 3G, so basically no calls, just data , as if it were a tablet. With the other 2 modes, (one may work better than the other) you can get HSPA+ and 2G, etc. voice calls work fine and data works (assuming apn settings are correct), but you will not get LTE.
there's possibly a way to unlock more bands and options, through the method in this link ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059 ) but besides root you need a custom ROM. I have root, but I'm trying to figure out if I can do a custom ROM on 4.4.2. i know we cannot unlock the bootloader, but it seems some people do have custom ROMs, but not sure if I can get there (safestrap? flashing through odin?).
They use safestrap for anything above MDK and can only use compatible roms. MDK is the only version that can have a custom recivery and could flash ROMs like CM 12.

Thanks. could you link to the link for safestrap? when you talk about compatible roms, is that only stock ROMs with small modifications?

Most ROMs are yeah TW based and have mods.

I have 4G LTE on my s4 along with voice and text. Is there any need for me to try and enable more bands at this point?
(I cut down my sim to a micro so now it fits)

How do I tell if I'm on 'MDK'? The guy I got it from barely did anything with the phone.
Enabling more bands would help to get better reception, but if it's working goof enough for you. ..then maybe no need
GO into settings and see which baseband you are on if it says anything but MDK for the last 3 you cannot install a custom recovery.
Go to settings - About device and put the last three letters of the Baseband. If it is MDK, you are FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
If not, you are in a jail.

Looks like FNC5 if I'm doing this correctly.
Guess that means I'm in digital prison.
Yep. Atleast you can root and use safestrap.

Well for $50 I figured why not. Plus it's an upgrade from my old exhibit.
What's so special about MDK and why aren't we able to revert back to it?

Alright so I'll bring my phone to church, have reveren Samsung baptize it so it can become a born again virgin.
Fool proof.
It's just a firmware right? I figured someone would have cracked the code since this phone is a few years old now
Well, MDK is THE ONLY firmware that can use the Loki Doki exploit to unlock the bootloader. But thanks to Knox and Verizon, THERE IS NO WAY TO DOWNGRADE BACK. Since then, we have only been able to find root and no bootloader unlock.
I just got it today from T-Mobile, it's got some issues with switching network status. When I lose signal I lose data even after it connects to LTE towers. I have to toggle airplane mode just to get data back. It doesn't like switching back to 5G. I had to change from default display scaling just to download an APK in google chrome.
For the record it has not had an update yet at the time of posting.
After I unlock the bootloader I'll get started on getting us TWRP on at least the T-Mobile Variant.
If you could do that it would be awesome. I was thinking of root. I wonder if we could do the magisk boot patch if we can unlock the bootloader.....
I got as far as GIT into the N100 debloater and network unlock script; but was unable to remount any system partitions as RW no matter what I tried

TWRP would be absolutely amazing. I'm actually getting this phone from T-Mobile as we speak, so this would be a lovely step forward in modifications.
Has anyone found somewhere on their site to download the factory images? It could be too new but it is a bit odd.....
Just got mine today, I guess this will be the last Nord with snapdragon.
GPS seems wonky especially in certain indoor settings like shopping malls. Pokémon Go is virtually unplayable right now at my local shopping mall due to this.
I just had an idea. T-Mobile allows 5 temporary unlocks per year. I wonder if this would allow the bootloader unlock to be toggled off.

If you've been with Tmo for awhile, they might unlock for you if it's been on the network 40 days. I went through Twitter DMs to talk to them about my 6T and they had no problem with doing it. Going to try with this one too

I'm still looking for the rom too, nothing for now
Update: I've moved to a fully paid N200 5G since I'm now back on Metro by T-Mobile. I only need to wait 6 months for a full unlock request, which is miles better than 2 years. And I actually own the phone now as well. Can't wait for TWRP and Magisk to be available!
Edit: It was only $64 tax included
Just wondering, is it possible for this guy to unlock it? I saw a few people request the n200 but didn't see if it was completed.

I bought mine from Metro but asked him anyway. He tried to unlock it with my T-Mobile SIM in, but no dice.
I've been using Shizuku to fulfill my root needs until we get Magisk. I use Shizuku for DarQ and Termux. Works lovely especially since I don't need a computer to start it (Wireless debugging)
Hmm need to read up on Shizuku. May do some of the things I want as well.
Had a bad echo show up on my end of a speakerphone call tonight, turned speaker off and was still there. Was loud enough to end the call, this may be a deal breaker for me. I use speaker phone a lot.
