I come to you today a little sad and depressed. I live in Pittsburgh and its blue skies here today, 73 degrees.
Naturally I'm out and about taking pictures.
Quick background, I love cameras. Love the S6 active, but there were times I wish I had more manual settings ( all the time).
Enter the LG V10. Loved the presentation, advertisements, heck I love manual video mode. But I'm a little disturbed by the quality.
I'm one of those people that zoom in, not necessarily to critique but to enjoy the delicacies that my eye cannot normally see.
Day1 of the LG V10, I dropped some money and bought it.
Was a little curious why after I take a picture whether it's in manual or auto mode I have to wait a second until I take another picture. This is 2015, almost 2016. Not 2012.
Also, the compression LG uses on this is...to say the least, disappointing. I'm talking picture mode. I zoom in just once and its distorted, blended, blurred. Why, LG, why?
This is LG's chance to shine. Not with the processor gpu or RAM, but with the camera and Video.
I'm considering fresh installing and master resetting this just to see if the camera is any better after complete reinstall. Has anybody had any success? I'm...seriously disappointed. Not a Samsung fanboy but when I see greatness I appreciate it. I know Samsung will copy this on next flagship, more manual camera and Video settings but this is now, I want a great camera that can compete with the big boys with that f1.8.
Any suggestions? I don't want to take this back but on a beautiful day like today, these pictures should be turning out amazing. Sad That the RAW image is crap too. ?
Can anybody help or am I just whining (gulp)? Could I have a bad camera or not have an update?

Hate to say this, but sound like you are whining to me. Though I am not a camera savey individual...so I can't fully say. The camera...I can tolerate one second for anything. If I wanted true manual camera, I will buy a camera...a real one.
You could try factoring reset to see if that will change your perspective. Also you can return to the store and play with their store demo and see whats up.

Thanks. I honestly want to hear what other people say. I can wait too, but the point is not to wait with these processors. Snap snap snap. Just was curious about how other individuals felt, not the reviewers who honestly almost never know what they are doing or have another objective in mind.

Yes, that's not what I'm referring to, however. From the time you take a picture to the time it takes to take the next picture, there is a delay.
That being said, there must have been something wrong while taking pictures outside yesterday. Not sure what but pictures are a little better today for another wonderful clear blue skies and 73 degrees.
Btw it appears to be an autofocus issue. I'll press button and it will take photo but won't allow me to take another photo for over a second. Same on G4. Tried it in Best Buy last night then the S6. S6 can repeatedly take shot almost instantaneously after you take last shot. I'm still not sure why there is such a delay.
Is this happening for everybody? I keep reading in posts that everyone who loves this phone the camera is "fast" and I'm not sure what they are referring to?
In AUTO mode I think it has a lot to do with HDR. If you turn that off, it'll be much faster. I'm not exactly sure how much will you lose in quality though...
But in Manual mode, it's quite fast for me. I can basically take the next picture instantenously. It doesn't have that lag that it has in Auto mode with HDR on.
After I read this I tested again to see how quickly mine takes shots and the details. I've not done too much with the camera as of yet.
The results :
In Auto mode with HDR auto it fires off pics as quickly as I can press the button.
In simple mode there is a slight delay because when I touch the screen it wants to focus then snap the pic.
There is a little bit of grain upon zooming in with both modes which I've not noticed before. Seems like a little much for a 16mp shooter and I don't think it was that much on my G3. I think for what it is though it is very solid. As some others have said if you want the most crisp detail for zooming an cropping you can't beat a true DSLR camera but I don't think you're sacrificing alot by using this for everyday point and shoot.

Youre definitely NOT whining! I believed the v10 camera hype and bought one two days ago. And i agree 100% with you that the camera is not great. I'll even go further and state that it sucks. The shutter delay is bad and the quality is muddy and noisy beyond words in low light. This clearly stands as my last big mistake of 2015!
I agree. The cams are absolutely not what they are hyped up to be. Especially the front cams. The selfie quality is just horrendous. Both cams are very noisy, terrible in low light, and blow out lights, lamps, etc. to an excessive amount. If I didn't get the phone on AT&T's Next plan.... it would be going back. The cam/vid hype was a huge decision in getting it & it doesn't live up to it.
The best thing to do is complain on both their Twitter & Facebook pages, although they are more responsive on Twitter. I would like to think a lot of these issues could be remedied with software updates for the cameras.

I personally feel the evo3d only takes great pictures sometimes - meaning it is hard to get good pictures.
The pictures tend to look better on the phone than when you look at them on a computer, where they tend to look more grainy when not in the brightest light. This feels like a step down from HTC's other offerings, which can look as good if not better than iphone pictures when pulled to your computer. I have gotten some fantastic pictures, but for the most part the camera has left me a bit wanting.
Playing around with 3d pictures is quite fun, and video recording is very good - particularly the audio, which was lacking in the evo4g.

It takes a much better picture than the Evo4G did. Much sharper looking, even with 3mp less.
However in low light it still gets grainy...the sensor can't help that, but the software can...but it doesn't. It does, however, take fantastic macro shots for a cell phone...surprisingly.
The 5mp cam on the NS4G I had for a few weeks was phenomenal. When I came back to the E3D it really made taking pictures with it seem pointless...and that's not even taking into consideration the .5-1.5 second shutter lag from when you push the button.
For a freakin' cell phone? It's fantastic. I've never used an iphone4 camera but I've only heard good things. But after seeing what a Samsung 5.0mp sensor/lens/software combo can do I am completely down on the E3D's camera. Granted it does 3D and it is a rather compelling effect...though the problems with the 5.0mp single-cam shots get even more pronounced in 3D at 2.5mp.
YMMV, etc etc etc. It is a cellphone after all.
EDIT: Also any shots with motion are pretty much ruined before you take them.
I agree with nhutpham, post number 2. The camera is not nearly what it should be. This phone revolved around its camera's, I mean come on its not called "Shooter" for nothing. 3D pics turn out good, still shots do anyway. But standard pics, thats a whole other ball game. Low light produces bad pics, even with the flash. Some pics will get a greenish tint to them (whites) when using flash. Rather then use all the "auto" settings I find setting things manually will result in better 2D pics. The device was not purchased by me for the camera though. I bought for the dual core processors Though now that I have my dual core I am wishing HTC would have stepped it up on the 2D camera
i think at stock the pictures look ok. but when you adjust iso,sharpness,exposure,contrast in the settings it makes them look much more vibrant and sharp.
i took a compartive shot of small rocks and the evo3d looked crisper and better overall compared to the iphone 4. so the camera cant be all that bad

Being a photographer myself, I am impressed with the camera... but not all of the time. It takes phenomenal pictures outside in a good sunny day and even in overcast. Take the camera inside in average lighting of just about anyone's living room when the sunlight isn't dominating the light, then I'd be reluctant to show it of.
The poorer the lighting, the harder it is to focus and the photos can get very grainy. HTC also chose to compress the photos quite a bit which affects the picture quality, but makes it easier on the phone and network to share and upload. This goes back to a previous comment that they look better on the phone than on a larger display - its the compression.
If you're willing to root and mod this phone, there is a camera mod in the CDMA dev forum for this phone with camera improvements which makes me that much more impressed with the camera. Although, I think all that was changed was the compression for photos and video.
If you are taking a still picture under good light they look really good. If you have kids and are planning to take any pictures of them forget it.
Let's just they are playing baseball and you want to take a picture of them at bat. They get up there and you click the shoot button. The picture is then shown to you for review and you say wait, who the heck is that. Well while you thought you were snapping a picture of your child, by the time the camera actually took the picture your child got a double, the kid after him grounded to third, and in your picture is the batter who was batting 2 guys after him.....Great picture of someone elses child and of course that kid moved so the picture is blurry as well.
Okay, maybe I am exaggerating a little. You would probably get the batter right after him and not 2 guys down in the lineup, but it would still be blurry unless he batted like a statue....

Hi guy's,... I thought the camera was good until i view it on my computer...it's kinda granny with lots of noise... it looks good in the 1080p display but not on FB or in my computer rofl. I guess something is really wrong with the camera.

Welcome to mobile cameras, they all throw pixel count at you when what they really need are better sensors. I have NEVER had a phone camera take pictures that didn't have tons of noise and look like complete **** on a decent monitor. In my experience thus far, this camera is no different than others I've seen.

Have been playing with the camera all day today. Compared to iphone5 this shows lot of noise especially in low light. When cmpared to gs3, noise is marginally higher in low light photos. Under good light conditions, this seems to produce most faithful color reproduction.
Just my observation
Yea, I just compared gsiii and DNA cameras, I think gsiii is better most of the time, but not in color reproduction. But honestly, they are both awful. :thumbdown:

I just downloaded camera 360 from the market, and its so much better than the stock camera.
I went downtown Detroit last night after Dinner, and even though I said that the S3 Camera is better, I'll retract my statement (different thread) after taking some low lights pics. The Low Light Pics on my S3 looked horrible.....but was pleasantly surprised by this camera. I attached a few pictures to show that the pics in low light actually look pretty damn good, especially since it was taken with a Phone, and I was a bit tipsy after drinking too much at Dinner (hands weren't exactly steady).

Damn... I was going to pick up that phone today but after seeing these pics I don't think I am. A good camera is very important to me, maybe I'll get the Lumia 920 instead...
Well, what do you expect from a phone's camera? Whatever the camera's hardware is, if 90% of its settings are controlled automatically, the result is most probably going to suck. In a darker scene, this phone's software may want to bump the ISO higher than another phone's software, hence this noise and lack of detail. But anyway, a different camera app and you knowing how to use it will most probably show better results.
For me, a cellphone's camera is not much more than a barcode scanner.
Exactly. Phone cameras will always suck compared to a quality Point&Shoot. Smaller sensor, few manual settings, and software made by phone manufacturers, not Canon/Nikon. It's fine for a decent landscape shot or portrait on a sunny day but some people just have ridiculous expectations.
People spend thousands of dollars on camera equipment that works well in low light or for fast action. Maybe the iPhone 5 is marginally better than this, but I've played with my family's new iPhones and IMO the camera is still just a phone camera. If I wanted to take a good picture I'd bring something else.

Some people didn't like my review of the DNA saying that I was too harsh on the 1080p 440ppi display. How could it possibly be worse than the 720p S3 panel? Well, I think these will speak for themselves:
First a short video shot by an iPhone 4S...DNA vs S3 playing Underworld Awakening. It's a bit hard to show how much the S3 dominates because it's a video of video playback, but the most accurate part is when Selene and Michael are kissing. You can see the skin tone is MUCH better:

Don't forget-I was NOT really holding the camera steady (Tipsy), but my spouse had my S3 and the DNA's pics actually look better in those low-light shots than on the S3. I need to go to the Conservatory and take some daylight shots of all the tropical plants. THAT'S where I usually take my dSLR and even when I took the S3 there, the pics came out great,popping colors, etc.... Let's see how the DNA can handle those.

I just downloaded the Camera 360 Ultimate from the Play Store and the difference is very, VERY noticeable. EVERY DNA owner needs to switch immediately. It's COMPLETELY a software issue. I'll be testing other camera apps right now, but this was a drastic improvement!!!

On my monitor those pictures look absolutely horrible, grainy and pixely. Are you using a stock camera or a 3rd party one?

Well no camera will ever be like buying a nikon but getting normal point&shoot quality pics isn't much to ask for, nokias are able to achieve it, seems to be just a part of the phone being skimped on. Nothing to stop me frfom buyin though, they are "good enough"

Dude, something is definitely wrong with your lens. Half those pictures look flat out BLURRY. There are a bevy of example shots from the DNA, just google some and take a look. I'd upload some of my own if it werent for the fact they're already out there. Those pictures you took look like something my 2001 blackberry pearl took.
So I've been using my HTC One for a little over a month now. Tried many different ROMs, currently running the leaked 4.2.2 stock ROM.
I've noticed since day one the camera takes really fantastic close-up (3 feet or closer) and macro shots (few inches from subject). It also takes really great low light shots, again close up and macro. These shots in these situations rival my point and shoot Canon.
Once you go outside and take a "normal" shot in great daylight of a group of friends/family, scenery or a building ect. all hell breaks loose. We're talking like one of the worst camera images from a smartphone I've seen recently. Heck my Galaxy S2 and iPhone 3GS took much better looking "normal" shots from a distance.
Images become instantly washed out, details are completely lost, the picture is injected with a super dose of noise everywhere. What is up with this? Is there anyway software will be able to fix the camera in the future? Is it a hardware limitation?
I owned a Galaxy S4 for a few weeks and that phone took brilliant "normal and close up shots" but was severely lacking in low light where images would just be too dark or too blurry.
I'm really quite bummed because the HTC ONE with the new 4.2.2 update is nearly perfect, amazing battery life and performance, much smoother and faster than the POS Galaxy S4. I'm just really pissed that the Camera can't perform in normal situation with great lighting, I would think any Camera would excel in those condition over any other scenario. That and that stupid 5 minute time-out of the LED notification really holds back the HTC One from becoming the perfect smartphone for me.
I wouldn't go as far as saying the camera is atrocious in normal situations, however, the details might not be as good/clear as some other phones. I know the international version got a software update where it addressed many problems such as noise and exposure (issue with pics being washed out ect)... As for the noise issue i think if you go into the camera setting and make sharpness -1 or -2 it will help, at least it did for me. A big issue sometimes for me is that the auto focus is off so it makes the whole picture become what you described, but i guess its probably because i dont have the most steady hands when taking pics lol. I know tmobile pushed a software update a week and a half ago, but i dont think that it did anything to the camera. Apparently, some people say that when you first buy the phone it already comes with that update installed for the camera... but who the hell knows! Tmobile's, AT&T, and Sprints software versions are all different so its hard to tell

regarding "steady hands", i thought this phone has optical image stabilization? i've only taken a few pictures so far and agree that i'm not liking what i see. my previous htc one s takes much better looking picts on well-lit areas. then again my tmous one is still stuck on 1.27 software

Definitely faster than my Galaxy S2 on launch and taking a picture.
This camera has literally made me want to throw the phone against a wall.
What makes it worst is the results are the same with every camera application.
It has to be hardware.

Taking pictures of moving objects is painful to say the least. It makes you wonder how they were able to get those pictures on their commercial...
I would of thought with optical stabilization that moving objects picture taking would be improved.

Optical Stabilization has nothing to do with that. It has to do with "shake" caused by handholding the camera. OIS has nothing to do with moving objects. That's shutter speed.
+1 getting good pictures of my child is a PITA. It's just too slow

I would say the slowness of the camera is my biggest/only? gripe of the entire phone. This should get fixed soon, but we need to put the word out to them that this is a major concern of its users.
Taking pictures of the kids is ridiculously hard!!!! I have to put it on time shot so it takes multiple shots
TL;DR: A cellphone camera is a lot less flexible than a dedicated camera. If a scene is extremely well lit (read: direct sunlight), a cameraphone should be able to freeze frame, such as that soccer photo that was posted above, but if it's not well lit and/or the camera is biased towards slow shutter speeds, good luck. Gotta use the right tool for the job, and a cellphone isn't it.
Here comes the long version:
To create a picture, a specific amount of light is needed - too little, and you're underexposed, everything is too dark, too much, everything is over exposed; white. There's two primary factors controlling light taken in: Aperture (amount of light let in) and shutter speed (how much light is collected). Imagine filling a cup: aperture is how much you open the tap, and shutter speed is how long you keep it open. However, there's an additional factor: sensor sensitivity (ISO), which is a multiplication factor, but introduces noise when used. Think of measuring rainfall with a big bucket or a small glass. The glass will give you a ballpark figure, but the bucket will be much more accurate.
However, in all cell phones, the aperture is fixed, leaving only iso and shutter speed to be adjusted, and in most cell phones the max ISO is low due to the abysmal noise performance of these tiny sensors. In the case of the G2, it only has 4 stops of adjustment in ISO, where most compact cameras can manage 6 (iso 100-3200) and DSLRS can manage 8 or more. And, you really don't want to be using the last 2 stops if you can at all help it.
Problem is, the shutter speed can only go so low until hand shake becomes an issue. The whole point of image stabilization is to allow slower shutter speeds than could normally be used, with the ancillary benefit of less shaky video. Slower shutter speeds mean a lower ISO can be used, which results in better image quality. IS is one of the big selling points of this phone, so it's not a surprise they've decided to make it heavily favor its usage to increase image quality.
But, for moving stuff, you want fast shutter speeds.... with a bias towards slow shutter speeds, well, there's your problem. Sometimes there is a sports mode which will change the bias towards faster shutter speeds, but the G2's doesn't seem to do that (or it doesn't help much). I'd say, set ISO to max (800) and pray.
Or, if you are talking about focusing on a moving subject, either tap on something on the right plane as the moving subject, and take the picture when the subject is in the right spot. In the case of the G2, you have another option, which is to use manual focus. Either works.
Wow, the entire time I thought my camera was defective. The commercial makes a point of shooting pictures while the subject is moving and getting a still shot. In real life with this phone it's pretty impossible.
For most part the G2's camera has been fine for me but I usually don't take moving pictures with my cell phone camera.
It's true. I hope LG addresses this issue so long as it is a software defect. I'm concerned that it could be a hardware limitation though. capturing moving subjects is near impossible even in good lighting. However, the camera app opens fast enough, faster than SOME other devices. The shutter speed also gives the impression that it is faster than the nexus or moto camera. Galaxy devices are faster and then iOS has fastest shutter speed.
As for still subjects or scenes, this phone has arguably the best camera on any android device. In some instances, it is better than the iphone 5s, in others it is not. Low light shots are heavily softened yet the shot is brighter than any other camera I've seen. The smartphone camera that beats all of them is of course the lumia 1020, which many HAVE also complained to be slow.
Well I have a 9 month old and this thing doesn't miss a beat. I do however have that auto intelligence on and that snap is instant.

Zigzag is point on. This is cell phone camera. I find it to be one of the best overall in that area. Every cell phone I have owned has had one weakness or the other. If you need quality pictures of moving objects then you need dslr. Or, snap a bunch and take the best one.

The camera drives me nuts as well. Every time I read about it someone chimes in saying "well its a cellphone camera" but I have had more cellphones than most people and never had such trouble taking pictures of my son/nephew/nice, etc. To get a child to stand still for a picture is tough and sometimes it takes up to 7 seconds (I've counted) to take the picture. That's an eternity as a parent. I love everything about this phone except that aspect of the camera and the fact that Verizon doesn't offer it in white, which I'm hoping is fixed tomorrow. From there I just have to hope LG has an update for this. I don't care about the science of taking pictures, how it let's in light, I don't care if they have little Indonesian kids working in a little micro-sweat shop drawing pictures. It takes way too long to take a picture in anything but perfect sunny daylight, and thats not because it's a cellphone camera, that's comparing it to many other cellphone cameras.

I wasn't saying it drives me nuts... I was saying I don't have an issue with the camera... my son is crawling now and becoming more playful everyday. I don't have any issue with the camera. It does a great capturing him moving around. Not sure what some of you guys are going through because what I use it for it does an awesome job......

I meant to quote the person on top of your post, not your post. The strangest part is that I had the phone for about a week and didn't notice any problem with the camera. I rooted it and still didn't even notice any issue. I uprooted back to stock so I could hopefully return it for a white one If it comes out in the next couple of days and it wasn't until that point I noticed it. I took many pictures the following days as I ended up in Great Wolf Lodge and took many unsuccessful pictures of the kids, but I wonder if it was working OK and then gave me a hard time after either rooting or unrooting or if it just took me a few days to get out of the honeymoon stage to realize it. I'm curious to see what happens if I do get the option to switch my phone in the coming days, if it'll still be a problem or not.
Didn't mean for such a long post, sorry. Just following the lead of the thread, "Blowing Off Steam."

I read somewhere (most likely on here) that the Optimus PRO had the same issue for a while with the slow shutter and was eventually fixed with a software upgrade. I never had LG before (mainly because it isn't a heavily supported brand, which is frustrating with this one as well) so I don't know how they've been in the past.

I have read others with your issue and then those like me with no issue. Could be bad batch ois in some of the phones.

All right, at this point, I think the camera is really good after the updates. I am not an expert on pictures though so lets get a community review on it.
Please, take pictures with your Camera please and post them here. Get outside and inside pics, good light and especially low light pics.
Please include a description of the non-obvious environmental variables of the pictures so we have context of the results, especially for those who haven't bought one yet. I know we would all have loved to see this thread before we bought the phone so please contribute your efforts.
Rules for posting:
1. Try to take good pics. If your pics look nowhere near as good as the pics already posted, then ask for help before posting so you can represent the camera correctly.
2. I took my pics in manual mode. In Low Light, they came out way better than in Auto mode. Play around and see what works best for you.
3. Make sure your phone is updated and make sure the camera app is fully updated as well. We know pictures werent great pre-updates, but now that the updates have come out, I personally think they look great.
Lets fix the bad rep this camera has gotten as I think it was prematurely judged. Or maybe I just need to go play with other cameras, as what I see as really good is really nowhere near good enough. Lets figure out which is the truth
Here are two photos I took. One is with all my lights on and the other is with all lights out, at night with only my TV on. I was very impressed as I feel it debunks all the criticism of the Camera's low light performance. I took both pics in manual mode
Ignore those photos and see these. XDA limits resolution. These stored in my Google photos are full res
One observation: I am assuming the one on the right is with lights out. It appears that it has a much better white balance result than the other one. It will be interesting to see what others post.
As few posts as are showing up on this forum, it seems the phone is not getting out there very much.

You are correct the one on the right is with the lights out. One possible reason for the hue difference is likely that my lights give off a yellow hue and my walls are also slightly yellow. Then my TV has a Full array LED backliggt which will give off pure white light. I mention this as both pics were taken with the same settings. Just a theory though, as I personally think the one on the right looks a little better and that is the only way I can explain it. Your guess is as good as mine though.

I am sure that the warmer light from the lights, and yellow on the wall, is a definite contributor. The only way to correct colors in these situations is to have a custom white balance where you can use something white to have it calibrate to. No phone does that, that I'm aware of.

Can someone give some more? I'm going to buy this phone next week do I do want know if camera is also perfect. I had Zenfone 2 it was awesome at it's time, now I can't wait to buy this but camera is important to me and I wish to real compare to s7 and g5.

Was phone docked at stative or column? Was it auto night mode or your manual settings? It's ready good.

I held it in my hands and just held it still as it snapped the pic. It was in Manual Mode. Hold it still as when it detects low light, it extends the exposure time and then after the photo is taken, it will be a lot brighter than you anticipated. Alternatively, while in manual, you can hold the screen for a second the drag right and it will increase the exposure time. During the day it takes an instant photo and the exposure time is nonexistent, but to get great low light shots, it is necessary to increase the exposure time. The photos always come out better on my phone than the scene looked at night in real life. Let me know if that is at all confusing and I will try to explain better.

In my opinion, the camera is more than okay enough. There are so many camera modes, it is ridiculous. And the Camera stabilization is incredible when taking video is incredible. Just don't take low light photos in Auto Mode as it does nothing to correct it, but ironically in manual mode, the camera does automatically correct low light (unless you manually adjust the exposure time, then that setting will take pecedent).
I think the reviews that said low light photos were bad were either taken in auto mode or the updates fixed a whole lot before I got my phone. Either way, low light now is excellent. I have a feeling that they just didn't fully teat the camera as one review even stipulated that they didn't change any if the modes.
Does the camera support a 60fps recording? How its slow motion? Looks smooth or laggy?

Full HD recording has 60fps. I don't think the 4K does as it doesn't say it. And I haven't used the slow no yet

Just took a slowmo of my TV while watching the walking dead, and it was pretty nice. Looks like what I hoped it would. As smooth as I would expect slow motion to be. OIS works really well as the picture was perfectly stabilized through the entire footage. I think OIS disables when I zoom in though because when I did, my phone was a little shaky. That is just a testament to how good it works when it is enabled though. I haven't tested it with real life slow motion yet but if it does really good recording motion of a TV show, the I imagine real life will be just as nice, if not better.
Just did another of me moving my hand and fingers really fast for 30 seconds and it was really smooth. I am impressed. It looks like a slow motion replay like you see in sports. I assure you, you will be very happy. I didn't even expect it to be that good.

Hockey looked really good too. It slowed the game down to a crawl and the motion was very smooth. I could not imagine it being any better
Slow motion is awesome thanks to 60hz camera recording, the rest is also fine including night mode
