My Alpha was working normally for 3 weeks, and then a day, it started to give an error when trying to unlock with fingerprint: "an error has occurred with the fingerprint sensor"
I unlocked it with password, then switched off fingerprint lockscreen. Then when I tried to turn it back on (click on the fingerprint manager) it dropped this error again "an error has occurred with the fingerprint sensor".
I have done factory reset, reinstalled with odin, downgraded to 4.4.4, no success. Then I took it to the service centre, they have replaced the home button and updated the software (to the same it was on it previously: 5.0.2 COI3, XEH region). The fingerprint worked at the service centre when I tried it. Then I went back home, done factory reset, few hours elapsed, then I tried to register my fingerprint, and this error showed up again. I reinstalled it with odin, with kies, downgraded to 4.4.4, deleted fingerprint app data, no success. I have found nothing helpful on the internet with hours of searching. It should be software related I think, it's very unlikely, that the hardware error (like unglued home button or something) occurred again, within this kinda short time.
Please help me, what to do. I would be very grateful
Im also having this problem, and many more people i believe. There are some fixes to this like heating it up or something. For some people it works, for some it doesn't.
EDIT: there's a video on youtube about it, you can try it.

I've seen it but I'm afraid that the screen or something will unglue due to the heat...
I ordered Premium Warranty Shipping, with spare phone, I hope they fix it but I will tell them firmly to replace the full phone or refund me the 510$ what's on the receipt.
But I'm open for any solution if anybody have it.

Your way of handling the phone is garbage. You are for sure an iPhone fan.
Sensor works 100%.

Going to second this, the fingerprint scanner works great for me, also slating a phone because it doesn't have any unofficial support is stupid.
Anyway probably best to send it back

Hi,
Can anybody help me with this? My gps keeps failing. A reboot sometimes works, I've tried running quick gps but this makes no difference, Sometimes it will reboot itself after it fails (sometimes repeatedly!!) normally when using copilot 8. It doesn't seem to be an issue with copilot as google maps and chartcross gps also fail to work.
rom htc 3.14.405.2(04666)wwe date 29/09/2010
radio 2.15.50.14
protocol 15.42.50.11U
os 5.2.21913(21913.5.0.94)
many thanks
Does it fail in all usage situations (indoor, outdoor)?
Do you use Quick GPS?
Did you try another Radio ROM?

Yes
Yes
No, I've not changed radio.
I tried again last night. Co pilot worked for a minute or so then lost gps, then "gps back, determining position..." then rebooted itself, repeatedly and did freeze on boot up once. I soft reset it and tried google maps, it found no sats and rebooted itself, tried again and it was ok for about 10 minutes on copilot then I had finished my journey... It's infurating I do know! Would it be worth trying a different radio as I've not changed it from stock and it's only recently benn misbehaving?
It's still misbehaving... Is there anything in the registry that might cause it?
This may be a bit too drastic, but a hard reset can rule out the registry as the culprit.
I'm trying to avoid a hard reset if I can. I'd have to reinstall the modified rom if I did wouldn't I? (from htc website)
This is really getting me down now... Last night co-pilot worked for 10 minutes then without warning or apparent loss of gps phone rebooted, then without opening any apps or even touching it, it rebooted itself 4 times. I'm thinking a hard reset has got to be tried..
Forgive my ignorance, but if I hard reset will I have then to reinstall the updated rom and patches I installed from htc late last year to remedy daylight saving issues etc and will I be able to reinstall paid for software from marketplace without buying again?
Can anyone help please?
I've read about the rebooting problem with other users. This was caused by bent battery pins.
Did look at those?
thanks. battery pins look fine to me. i will try a hard reset, i'm just wondering if i can reinstall my paid for marketplace software or will i have to buy again and i presume i will have to reinstall htc patches and updated rom after hard reset. please forgive my ignorance. it threw a fit this morning too. i switched it to silent for an hour whilst at a funeral and when i came out battery was totally discharged. it was about 90% beforehand. it seems to be dying!!!!!!
Does nobody know, please?
i am sorry to say that ur problem is the same with mine, and i think its main board broblem,i open it and remove the gps part and then restart the phone, the same problem the phone keep freezing and restart it self,so i think its mainboard broblem,i bought another used hd2 ,and the old one for parts,

Thanks for the bad news but I think you may be correct.... I've hard reset it and the gps and rebooting side of things is exactly the same, but now it also seems to be eating the battery(COMPLETELY drained in 16 hours with approx 15 minutes of calls made and a brief use of copilot and googlemaps) and I've not installed any additional software or made any changes from "out of box" condition apart from reinstalling my contacts and the latest version of facebook.... It now also is not porting facebook profile photos into contact list even though I have recreated the links.... I have emailed htc but had no response from their "crack" support team as yet (it's only been 26 hours so far). I only got the HD2 in August last year so hope that it will be a warranty issue. I seem to remember people having issues with facebook contact photos but can't find the posts. Can anyone help??
Well, an update. After 3 months and the unit going back to the repair centre FOUR TIMES and a TWO replacement units I appear to have a working device again. HTC repair centre seem to be totally useless. I've had no info from them regards any repairs that have been carried out. Each time it went away for repair it was back within 4 days so very little testing was done.(I did find out on 1 repair the speaker and the wireless card were replaced....Why???) The first replacement unit took 2 weeks to arrive though and that had absolutely no gps.......The second replacement took 3 1/2 to arrive but so far the gps is ok but I still have no facebook profile photos in my contacts list....... Any ideas how to rectify this??
My phone's proximity sensor stopped working, when i restard it works for one or two times and its not working again,
sometimes it is operating normally but about one hour later its stopping again . i was on stock rom and i tried different versions too.
i checked xda before writing this post and i saw one of SG2 owner phones front panel had changed by techical service.
my question is i send the phone to service today, and if there is mechanical problem on my device , they will change it.
So what is yours opinion about it? Is it a hardware or software problem?
Thanks a lot for the answers from now
Is your phone stock?
Have you tried re calibrating?
yes it is and i calibrated 4 or 5 times
any idea about my problem

Either
Have you a case on the phone if so remove it and test as this is the usual sensor culprit .
have you factory reset the phone ??
If not do so and test
Warranty is void if the phone has root or custom rom or rom counter is above zero be aware before returning to service .

thanks i removed the case before testing and yes i did factory reset before trying,
i used jig before giving it to service,
i know something wrong with the proximity sensor but the thing is confusing my mind; the sensor sometimes operates normally, its stopping working about 1 hour later or something like that, i hope the service decide there is problem with it. Otherwise it is a long process (about 3 or 4 weeks). I dont want to hear from service : there is no issue with your phone after waiting 1 mounth.

It looks like a hardware problem. Ask for a replacement, my friend.
i asked for replacement because i know it is the best phone till SG3 but as i mentioned up there i have doubt is service gonna agree with me?
i got my phone from service today, and they told me there is no problem with the sensors they upgraded to new firmware. I checked again the sensors by *#0*# test. The proximity sensor was same. The funny thing is a guy from technical servis said, there is no proximity sensor in this phone, and i asked which function of phone shuts of the screen while i m making calls? he said it is the light sensor.
i think it is gonna take time....
Hi all, I have recently bought an international Galaxy S6 EDGE. My fingerprint scanner was working fine until yesterday. My friend somehow managed to get INTO my phone with fingerprint locked. He was able to unlock it. I was shocked. He got into it twice. Sometimes it allows him to get inside, sometimes it doesn't. Today, I managed to unlock my phone, using fingers I have never registered before. I wiped my home button several times with wet tissue etc. Still same.
Light taps on the home button unlocks my phone. But if I hold my unregistered fingers there, it will show no match.
I am seriously confused. I hope somebody can shed some light on this issue!
Thank you.

Weird indeed, this never happens to me, though directly after turning on my device, i received an update, that said something about Fingerprint sensor, I don't know whether it was an issue that got fixed by the update. Maybe you should search for that update if you don't have it installed already

Latest updates already installed. No idea what is happening.. I already tried switching locks then back to fingerprint. Same thing.

Did you try deleting all fingerprints and assigning new ones? If that doesn't help I think your last resort would be a factory reset
Spoke to Samsung today. They say it's a known issue and the device needs to be reflashed or if it's less than 28 days old your entitled to a new phone.
So, for the second time this month my phone suddenly won't let me unlock it with fingerprint or backup password. I unlocked it with the find my mobile site. Bit now it is unusable. I have tried to registered my fingerprints again but with no help. Anyone have a solutions for this that don't need me to reset my phone? The sensor works in other apps like like finger security or paypal so it must be a software issue.
In advance thanks!
Do you have Greenify installed?
I have the same problem with fingerprint unlock no longer working.
It worked flawlessly for a few weeks then had occasional failures but now has totally packed up.
I have rescanned my finger several times and it will work for a day or two before failing to work at all again.
Is it me or is it a fault with the phone.
I do some DIY around the house, so it is feasible that my prints are eroded and causing it not to be recognised.
Is this possible? If yes, then a fingerprint unlock system is badly flawed and unreliable.

I am having the exact same problem..was working fine for the first few weeks, works 3/10 times on the first attempt now
I have flashed UK unbranded firmware and so far, it is working within the first 3 attempts.
So I've been using the s10 lite for 2 days and wanted to add a new fingerprint, just to find out that the finger registration process gets stuck at around 20-30% each time. I dont have any type of screen protection on my phone..I have tried adding a fingerprint in safe mode.. using a different finger/hand.. but nothing helps. Iwas able to add a fingerprint during the initial setup, and than the phone received a system update (with April security patch) so I'm guessing its a software issue?? Anyone else with the same problem?
79 users have read the post and noone took a minute to delete and try to add new fingerprints?? God bless.

I got 3 with no issues.
Maybe you have a niche problem that 79 users dont have, and if you snoop around you'll find the whole subforum is dead.
You're better of at your local repair shop.

I changed my fingerprint 3 times without any issues. I suggest you should do a factory reset and check again. If the issue persists then go to a service center if possible.
I've done factory data reset 3x..it doesnt help.. tried uso g different fingers, angles.. nothing works.. I will be returning the phone.
The screen also makes a clicking noise when I press on the place where the fingerprint sensor is. Totally disappointed.

Familiar with the concept of mass production and how there could be faulty products slipping by quality control?
You picked the shortest straw, unlucky. But to be disapointed in a niche error and completely rejecting the phone for it..
It happens,
Return it, they'll check it out and if it is a factory error then you'll get a replacement for free.
