hello, i recently just flashed cm7 alpha 3. one particular issue which i have noticed is the choppy video playback (when on youtube for example). i searched the forums and there seems to be some people who have experienced this issue beginning with alpha 3.
since i only recently flashed cm7, and the version being alpha 3, i have no point of reference to determine which of the alphas is the most stable build.
to those who have been on alpha 2.1 as well as alpha 3, which would you consider to be the more stable build? also, does alpha 2.1 have video issues as i described herein above which i have found on alpha 3?
appreciate any insight you can give. thanks in advance.
I have used the two and three versions of Alpha. Two was a major improvement over just plain old WebOS. Three was able to remove the SOD that so many of us experienced, however Three is giving me audio issues with Pandora; a semi-regular "pop" and "hiss" sound as if I was playing a record. As I am 42 years of age, this was funny for about 3 minutes as I was able to relive my 80's childhood. And yes, I did play with DSP Manager, to no avail.
I have not experienced any video issues with Netflix or Youtube.
All in all I love my Touchdroid. As we all are, I am looking forward to a full beta on CM7 or ICS CM9.
I've used 2 & 3. Now I'm trying the tweaked cm7 xron-fied and have no problems, and considering that this is still in alpha; imagine what it'll be like once stable!
I've had no issues with video or audio.
You could use the uninstaller, reboot and install again.
Hope this helps, good luck.
my experiences with alpha 3 isn't so good lots of problem as compare to alpha 2.1
my advice is alpha 2.1 i couldn't see any noticeable improvement in alpha 3 over 2.1
alpha 2.1 is rock solid for me i don't have any issue
Maybe you should try the Xron-ified Mod ver of CM7 alpha 3, works flawlessly for me.
Really frustratring to have a Verizon Note 2 and a Nexus 10 and can't enjoy FULL USB Audio Support. I have two DACs that work with USB Audio Recoder PRO, but I'd like to use that DACs with other apps, not just that app which isn't meant for music playback.
I asked this in the Nexus 10 forum and they said that the rom devs there just aren't interested in this feature (this is really frustrating considering there is a Nexus 7 rom/kernel [Timur?] that supports this, but not Nexus 10). I really don't want to root, unlock and go to the custom rom route with the Verizon Note 2, but the frustration is getting to me.
Any Verizon Note 2 ROMS and/or kernels provide full USB audio support such that I can take my dacs, plug them in via USB OTG, and enjoy audio not just from the USB Audio Recorder Pro App?
My dacs are Fiio E07k and Hifimediy Sabre, if it matters.
Thanks!!

Well USB OTG works fine for me on stock and all stock based roms and it also works perfectly for me on Vanilla Rootbox, CM, and all AOSP Roms with Plasma Kernel instead of the stock AOSP kernel.
As for if it supports USB audio, I would think it might but as I don't have a pair of USB headphones I honestly cannot tell you. I have seen threads where people connected their Note 2 to their vehicle through USB OTG and had full audio but I don't know what they were running.
Something else that may be useful to you just in case none of our kernels have USB audio support, there have been quite a few reports that the N7105, AT&T Note 2, and T-Mobile Note 2 kernels work perfectly on our phone. The N7100 kernels don't of course and the Sprint kernels don't because they write to a different block. Using a Sprint kernel can cause soft, and possibly hard, bricks but using kernels from the variants listed should work just fine.

There are quite a few posts on HeadFi about Android devices (Note2 included) and using direct output to the DAC. I don't have mine at the office to try, but here is the thread.

Thanks, but I am well aware and participate in that thread. The problem with that is I don't see anything in there about VERIZON Note 2 and most DACs like the ones I have, nor do I see anything about roms/kernels for Verizon Note 2 that make most, if not all, DACs work with Verizon Note 2.
For example, apparently Fiio E07k is recognized and works with International Note 2, but not Verizon Note 2. Like I said, it is really frustrating to have a Verizon Note 2 and Nexus 10 and not be able to simply connect any (like the ones i have) DACs to USB OTG to the phone and use them without that USB Audio Recorder Pro app.
After getting shot down in the Nexus 10 forum, I was (Still am) hoping that someone might be able to say, "Oh yeah, so and so rom that you can get here makes most, if not all, DACs compatible without having to use USB Audio Recorder Pro."
But if that isn't the case, that isn't the case.
Thanks anyways (or in advance if anyone can help out)

The reason you don't see the VZW version of the Note 2 mentioned is because not many of us bother with setting up and using DACs on out phones. All the Note 2s have the exact same internals, except for the N7100 which has different radios, the only real difference is the software and what VZW chose to block.
I would suggest you try these kernels, and Roms like CleanROm ACE since it is based on the internationals stock ROM, out for yourself and see if they have the features you are looking for instead of being rude to people who try to help you.
For instance, and I don't know if this will help or not, I have DAC oversampling and DAC Direct in Plasma kernel.

I wasn't trying to be rude (my apologies if it sounded like that), but like I said, the frustration level of having Nexus 10 and Verizon Note 2 and not being able to properly use my DACs outside of USB Audio Recorder Pro App is frustrating. Doubly frustrating that nobody can point me to a kernel and/rom for the Nexus 10. And head-fi has been no help, and I did place my query there in that thread. No response.
I was hoping that I might get a first hand account of someone with a Verizon Note 2 who has a custom rom and/or kernel and is able to make this work (so I know which one to use) rather than experimenting with various combos, especially since my Verizon Note 2 is paid for by my work.
Nonetheless, your suggestion of using a ROM based on the int'l version makes sense. Plasma Kernel + CleanROM Ace sounds like it might be worth trying.
Thank you. Again, if anyone has any first hand experiences of making this work, please let me (us) know.

I'm sorry I don't have any DAC's so I can't help you but just so you know the plasma kernel is only for aosp based roms, cleanrom ace is a touchwiz rom so you can't use them together. I find it odd though that he's basically saying you can do it on an aosp kernel for the n2 when you can't find one for a nexus device, which of course has a ton of more aosp development, but Shangrila knows what he's talking about more than I do.

I'm not saying you can do it for sure as I do not have a pair, all I am saying is that is what options are present in the kernel. Just because the kernel devs for the Nexus haven't built the features in don't mean they can't be built in, a lot of kernel devs only include stuff they want or use. I still haven't found an AOSP kernel with ext4 support built in, I know it can be done because KT747 has/had it but I have yet to see it on the Note 2 (and I mean all the variants).
As for Cleanrom ACE the only reason I mentioned that is because he said it works fine on the international N2, if that is true then the only difference would be the rom ( meaning VZW took that feature away like they did with so many others).
Here is a screenshot of the settings in STweaks, as I said I don't know if it will work or help but the settings are present.
And OP, joshm is right. You can't use Plasma and Cleanrom together. I had assumed you would know that seeing as how you were talking a lot about kernels I assumed you had flashed quite a few for the N2 and tested it already. If you haven't you need to, the only way to find out for sure is to test it yourself.

Completely forgot to check back. I am, as I type this, using a DAC with my Note 2 without using an special software. Setup: Note 2, Beans 19, Latest Perseus Kernel(didn't change any of the options; In fact, I flashed it just to test this). Phone -> OTG -> Hifimediy Sabre DAC (new tiny version) -> Sennheiser HD-650's. I have tested several albums with PowerAmp and everything works as expected. I also tested this with the lastest Sabre kernel and everything worked as well. Since, you have an N10, I'll try to test that later as well.
I'm considering picking up a developer edition GS4 to replace my GS3 but I want to make sure I'm making this decision for the right reasons. Basically I'm looking for a near-perfect AOSP experience "where it counts". That means all primary functions working 95-100%. Does the GS4 have CM builds that fit this bill?
CM on the GS3 has a couple major unfixable issues that have me considering this in the first place:
- Very quiet camcorder recording volume. Didn't think it was a big deal til one of those rare moment experiences took place and I tried to capture it in video only to find the audio was barely audible.
- Flaky data connection in some regions. Being in certain areas would yield a poor 4G connection, often dropping to 3G. Flash back to TouchWiz and voila, strong and fast 4G in the same area.
There are a couple other issues which I don't consider to be primary functional issues like MHL not working and some Bluetooth weirdness (Google really needs to work on this) but those I'm less concerned about. I'm still curious about these things too though.
--
The GS4 seems to be the only device worthy upgrading to for my purposes. The Moto X was interesting but I kinda want a better CPU than what I have now... I'm a game emulator junkie and those push your CPU to the limit. LG G2 I'm more interested in but I really don't trust LG's software and I can't rely on the phone getting CM support or even unlocked for that matter. I highly doubt Verizon will ever see another Nexus device... GS4 DE seems to be the only choice.
Thanks for your time and I look forward to your responses

Before I got my phone replaced (and the new one got ME7 OTA), CM 10.1 was pretty stable for the last few weeks. It did have some bugs at first (with calling and Bluetooth), but those got fixed some time ago. Didn't have a chance to try the new 10.2, as I'm stuck with the ME7 bootloader = can't flash a custom recovery ;(
The AOSP camera was MUCH better than the TW one. The quality was absolutely astonishing on the AOSP.
As for MHL, didn't try it. I **think** that CM 10.1 even had a wireless display feature in the settings.

I wouldn't put too much stock in CM10.2 at this point. It seems to be pretty buggy across all devices sans nexus. Regardless my research has yielded results similar to what you're explaining. It's just difficult to sift through the respective development and Q&A threads to try and find quality info. Lots of people report issues that others aren't having - something I see commonly (but don't experience on my device) in the GS3 threads as well.
Thanks for the info!
Not sure if anyone else has noticed (or could be my imagination) but after trying several of the international Sense 5 roms currently developed for our phones, I am finding the speaker volume/audio quality really tinny sounding and quieter than Sense 4 roms.
I know this is an issue with AOSP roms due to a drivers problems, but I figured with an official Sense 5 out this would not be a problem.
Hopefully others will have noticed and if so, not a good thing from HTC to have such crummy audio quality on their new release. Either that or my speaker is not what it used to be!!
Pretty conclusive for me. I just flashed Insercoin's last Sense 4 rom and the overall volume and speaker quality is 100% better than any of the three Sense 5 roms I flashed for the international HOX+.
It appears the audio quality is much poorer for Sense 5 than Sense 4.
Am I the only one to notice this?
I have a "Original Xiaomi Bluetooth Remote Controller". All ROMs that are not based on MIUI (AOSP, CM ...) can see this cintroller, and I can normally connect and pair the controller and cell phone, so camera shoot picture when I press the button on the controller.
But with Rom who are based on Miui, mobile phone can not find the controller. Not see it. Like it (controller) does not egsist. Applications such as "Bluetooth pair", "Bluetooth Device Picker" see the controller, but it can not be paired with phone.
With some other Xiaomi phones with Miui rum thing works (Note 4g, Redmi 2 ...).
I've tried other modem drivers (p37, p45, p51, p52...), but does not help
What could be a mistake with bluetooth in Redmi Note 2?
The bluetooth driver in the current MIUI is crap, at least for this phone. It keeps randomly crashing and/or disconnecting for me every few hours. There are other threads about bluetooth issues, so maybe yours is just another one of them.

I don't have any problem at all with bluetooth (ROM based on MR-7230). In fact, all other ROMs (AICP, CM, etc) do not work with bluetooth in my car (hands-free phone calls). But the MR-7230 based ROM works perfectly.
@DarthJabba9 which modem version does that ROM use? I tried 52, 51 and 37 and all of them have the same problem of just hanging up and not responding to connection. The 37 one has it a bit less frequent, though.

Modem p37. But I have also used p48, and that was ok as well. I believe p37 is supposed to better for battery life - but who knows?
I don't really see any difference in battery life between those versions. If anyone has already tried the MIUI8 beta, does it have a new modem version, or are we still on p52?
