I live in Atlanta GA.. Specifically, I live in Brookhaven and I spend most of my time in Buckhead, Brookhaven, Perimeter and Downtown.
For example I am close to Lenox mall right now and I am on Band 4...
All of this is on T-Mobile.. Does anyone else see Band 12???
If we don't get band 12 that will be a deal breaker for me. Do not have it in Chicagoland area yet, but I travel frequently to Indianapolis, and along that route Band 12 is often the only band available. Bought the phone(and do love it) with the expectation of Band 12 released at launch. Not having it yet is starting to worry me.

I read somewhere that the old radio will not work with Project Fi tho.
Would it be possible to get OTA after flashing the new radio?

Is it just me or is LTE not working for the padfone S (PF500KL) on AT&T? Just making sure before I have to call Asus support... I was able to go on "nxtgenphone" APN the first week I had it then my data disappeared and I had to downgrade it to the "phone" APN. Will be visiting ATT as well just to double check.

The Padfone S doesn't support LTE band 17 which is most likely the band that is used by AT&T in your area for LTE.

I installed the S firmware on my X in the hopes of fixing the sleep bug that seems to be sticking around -- and to get a Lollipop upgrade if they release one.
But I still get HSPA+ on mine which is good enough for me for what I need to do. Anything faster just seems to suck down my bandwidth. It's really good enough instead of getting a second plan on your device. It's not like you're stuck with EDGE or anything.
Is the padphone x mini worthwhile?
So I guess this is good news and bad news for T-Mobile users. The OnePlus 2 supports band 12. Awesome, right? Not quite. They did not get the T-Mobile VoLTE certification, so now those of us with T-Mobile face an issue. If you are in an area where band 12 is the strongest signal, you will likely not be able to receive/send calls or text because there is no VoLTE.
With that said - is there any way to "disable" a network band yourself in the software?

The device will switch to H or H+ for voice calls even if LTE is the strongest. Its not really a setback, just an oddity.

No - it won't. According to multiple posters on the OnePlus forum, because the phone senses band 12 connectivity, it will not try and fall back. That's why T-Mobile asked the companies who did not meet their band 12 certification to disable the band - at least temporarily.
"This issue that came up with Moto E/G, was that phones with Band 12 support, but not VoLTE certification for that band. It made the phone look like it had service, but wasn't able to re-route the band to receive the call. Therefore, no calls/emergency calls were able to be made. For this reason, T-Mobile started requiring the VoLTE certification or the removal of the Band 12 support. "

Unfortunately since mine shipped (should be here today, actually) I can't do that. I do already have a buyer lined up for it and my Moto X Pure should be here today as well. I REALLY wanted the OP2 though so I'm disappointed.
Is there still no news on whether the OPT will get T-Mobile VoLTE with a software update, apart from the vague "yeah maybes" that were thrown around by Oneplus a few months ago?

Motorola is at least coming out with a VoLTE setting and bringing band 12 back. They've confirmed that multiple times on the forums. OnePlus hasn't addressed it at all since a Reddit AMA with a vague answer. The issue wouldn't be so bad if it was disabled - but since it's not disabled, there will be issues with T-Mobile.

Are you sure about this? I have been reading up on this issue (including your discussion on the OnePlus forum) and most indications are that the device will fall back unless there is no available connection other than band 12. As written here:
"A Motorola employee explained recently that band 12 was removed from the Moto E (2015) at T-Mobile’s request over concerns that it could show that it has an LTE signal, but if all that it has is band 12, it couldn’t actually complete a call since it has no VoLTE support. While T-Mobile hasn’t officially commented on this matter, T-Mo spoke with Android Police off the record and said that any device on its network with band 12 also needs to support VoLTE and E911. Without VoLTE, band 12 phones on T-Mo are unable to make a call if they don’t have any other T-Mo service to fall back to, and they won’t know to roam onto another carrier’s network. Removing band 12 altogether eliminates this issue."
Not trying to argue with you or prove you wrong just trying to get some clarity on this issue while I still have time to cancel my order if need be.
It would be nice if someone with a OP2 on T-Mobile in an area with band 12 could comment.
---------- Post added at 12:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:53 AM ----------
Also, this:
Due to lack of VoLTE support you won't be able to place and receive calls including 911 calls in some buildings and some outdoor areas where 2G GSM and 3G HSPA+ (marketed by T-Mobile as "4G") signal is too weak or non-existent while LTE band 12 is available. You will still have data connection and you can receive and place non-emergency calls via Google Hangouts app (using Google Voice number). To place an emergency call you will have to either move outdoors where 2G or 3G signal is available or disable LTE to make your phone roam on another GSM network.

I can confirm that the Oneplus Two on T-mobile when on Band 12 LTE will drop to H or H+ when a call comes in if you have reception on those. I'm guessing it will also drop to Edge/GSM if a call comes in and that's the only reception you have for voice. I just did it at work right now where I'm getting Band 12 LTE. I called my cell from my work phone and the status bar dropped to H. I'm in the Los Angeles Metro area.

my Signal is great in California.
No problem here in Orlando, Florida.
So...this post from a similar thread in the OnePlus forums made a lot more sense to me than anything else I've read about this.
NaterTots says:
Some are getting confused in this thread.
Band 12 VoLTE support is important IF you have only Band 12 LTE coverage. Then you won't get any calls or texts since Band 12 penetrates buildings and rural areas better than the other Tmo bands.
If you're in an area that your connected to Band 12 BUT there are other bands around then your phone will switch automatically. No worries, you'll get calls and texts.
So if the OP2 doesn't support Band 12 VoLTE and you're not near any other Tmo bands then you'll not be able to make emergency calls or recieve texts.

TLDR: if there is another band available, you're fine, if not, you won't get texts or calls until there is.

Here are three links (sort of cheat sheets) with some information that will help:
http://androidforums.com/threads/how-to-tell-if-a-phone-will-work-on-t-mobile.706991/
http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2014/09/what-phone-works-with-which-operator.html
http://www.droid-life.com/2015/02/05/us-wireless-carrier-bands-gsm-cdma-wcdma-lte-verizon-att-sprint-tmobile/
You should also check out http://www.willmyphonework.net/, and if you end up with the FDD + TDD LTE version, that helps reconfirm things will work because of the 1900 MHz coverage.
You asked specifically about getting data inside buildings. My understanding is that lower frequencies work better for indoor coverage because they can more easily pass through walls, but they do not have the best range. In turn, if you want better outdoor distance and range, then higher frequencies work better because they are less attenuated by the atmosphere. Somebody else more knowledgeable can comment on this. But in the long run, it will probably be about your local coverage, too. I.e. if you are generally close to cell towers, the indoor/outdoor factor might not make much of a difference. And if you can somehow manage wifi calling with T-Mobile, that might also minimize any potential issue.
I think wifi calling must be baked into the phone to use it, but I may be wrong about this.
Any US T-Mobile users that can confirm this either way?
I am waiting on a Prime model myself, and plan to use it with an AT&T mvno in the US. AT&T supposedly has 3G on both 850 and 1900 MHz so 3G should work no problem.
thanks for the response. Accoring to the willmyphonework site it will work on Tmobile with 3g.. So im guessing no HSPA or HSPA+ right? these bands/network/freq confuse me.

This phone should work with T-Mobile 3G, and also what T-Mobile calls 4G, but which is actually HSPA+, and thus, by the book is on 3G. Take a look at the AndroidForums link I sent above. Supposing that information is true, it says the following:
3G
The technology for 3G is called UMTS. T-Mobile uses two frequencies for their UMTS network: 1900MHz and 1700/2100MHz. So if you check your phone's specifications and see that it has either 1900MHz or 1700/2100MHz listed as one of the UMTS frequencies, then it will support T-Mobile's 3G network.
4G - HSPA+
T-Mobile did a bit of marketing on this one. What T-Mobile calls 4G can more accurately be called HSPA+. This is not really a new technology, rather, it's an upgrade of the 3G technology UMTS. Therefore, if your phone supports the UMTS frequencies 1900MHz or 1700/2100MHz, then we just need to check to see if the phone supports HSPA (slower) or HSPA+ (faster). If it does, then it will be compatible with T-Mobile's 4G network.

The RN2 supports UMTS at 1900 MHz and HSPA+ so yes, you should be able to get HSPA+ service. HSPA+ is pretty speedy, and for my own use case, it is perfectly fine. Some people will want/need/demand LTE speeds (even though HSPA+ gets very close, and sometimes passes it...). But at least for my own use case, I don't plan to be downloading huge files, or streaming HD video when I am away from wifi coverage. So for me, data up to 3G/HSPA+ is fine. But you'll have to figure out if it is good enough for you.

tlxxxsracer, I'm always nervous to suggest something I cannot back up with my own firsthand experience. According to the information I pointed out, it seems like the RN2 should be able to use T-Mobile 3G/HSPA+ service. But it would sure be nice to have an actual RN2 T-Mobile user out there confirm this. Are there any of you around?
Check out the Huawei ascend mate 7. It's a little more than the RN2, but is compatible with tmobile lte bands. I'm gonna purchase it here soon. Idk where u live, but I used tmobiles hspa, and got crappy service. Only like 5 down and .5 up. But switching to lte I'm getting like 45d and 8u. Huge difference lol.

I got the Prime (32GB) version from merimobiles.com . The buying experience was good. If you plan on buying from them, signup for their emails, you get a $20 discount points. Create a new account and order via that account to get the status via their website. I forgot to do both these steps, and had to ping them everyday (5-6am EST ) to followup on my order. It will take a good 2-3 weeks to get the phone in your hands. I used Singapore post as my shipping option(extra $$), but they decided to send it via China Post epacket, which was pretty fast once EMS gets their hands on the package. It reached US within 3 days, but USPS/customs had it for a good 3 days after reaching our shore .

Good info, thanks and just found out it has 1yr warranty as well with option for $10 to buy 24month warranty.
Was there any import taxwith the singapore post option you selected?
I'll probably add shipping insurance too, just to be safe.
Did you check out with paypal? is there any protection from them in regards to shipping?
No import tax. ePackets is a sort of China Post & USPS offering. You can actually track the package using both their tracking system. I didn't get any insurance. The phone itself came nicely packaged in a bubble wrap. I did use paypal, but didn't check their shipping protection.
I also have T-Mobile and recently received my Redmi Note 2 16GB version from gearbest.com. Tried out a few different ROMs, both MIUI and AOSP. On MIUI, the network symbol shows an "H+" whenever I'm using data. On AOSP, only "3G" shows up top even though I have "4G Preferred" selected in network settings. Hope that helps!
Friend bought me the Redmi Note 2 straight from China. I have AT&T. Took my SIM out of the IPhone 5S and stuck it in slot 2 SIM. You can't slide it in all the way in as the SIM is a little bit shorter than the slot, it only works if you don't slide it in all the way. I get the H+ for data too which I assume is 3G and my signal is fine. If anyone has an easy way to use the LTE please update!

For the moment, this will not work on LTE using AT&T or T-Mobile as the RN2 does not have the correct band/frequency coverage. If somebody figures out how to hack the baseband and add the right coverage, and there is not an actual physical/hardware limitation, that could possibly open up LTE coverage in the future.
HSPA+ is quite fast, in fact, T-Mobile refers to it as "4G" (but not LTE). Some folks will want/demand LTE coverage, but depending on your use case, HSPA+ may be perfectly fine.

I don't know if it was a custom ROM but it did came with a bunch of bloat ware because I barely had any free space left so I just flashed TWRP and installed a fresh ROM over it.
I can confirm that the phone works on T-mobile HSPA+. I used it while visiting the US recently with a T-mobile MVNO (GoSmart).
I can also confirm that Gearbest ships the phone in an almost unusable state due to constant popups. Flashing new ROM is necessary.

I've had the phone for a couple of days and have flashed it with smiui rom. Its working really well but i have not seen the 4g icon at the top of the screen, all i see is 3g or H. I had read online before i brought this that it would work with O2 4g.
Has anyone else had this and know how to resolve it?
Thanks
Nick

I'm assuming you're in the UK? If so, sorry to break this to you, but O2 4g currently only works on Band 20 (800MHz) (see here for more), which the RN2 doesn't support, it only supports Bands 1, 3 and 7 (1800/2100/2600MHz). There has been some attempt to unlock addition LTE bands in this thread using NVRAM hacks, but no dice so far.
To be fair, Band 20 is not the best for 4g, and is mainly used for rural areas to fill signal holes (there is some interesting info over on the OnePlus forums here). It's often not much faster than 3G. I personally am with Three in the UK on a Redmi Note 2, and I get some 4G in Central London.
So tl;dr wherever you got your info about O2 4G support for he RN2, it was wrong. Perhaps they will expand if the merger with Three goes through, otherwise, you're stuck.
f*ck
thanks for letting me know
Hi I have always gotten my pixels from the Google store the unlocked version. And I also have used Fi for many years. I just dropped Fi because their customer service has gotten horrible. (It used to be top notch) anyway I just moved to verizon because I have FiOS so I got a big discount to switch to them. So what exactly is the difference between the models? I know Verizon locks the bootloader and I'm assuming there is bloatware also is that it?
Is there difference in the operating bands or anything?
My main question that I'm wondering is will I be able to have c-band on my pixel 6. Verizon lists it and says that my town has c-band active but I'm not getting it. Oh boy the way I have the p6 not pro.
Also is there a certain apn that I should be using? Everything does work. My LTE is around 40-60 usually and my sub 6 5g is 80-120 usually. But they told me in my town c-band is active and that the p6 is capable. Isn't c-band more like 300mbps?

Verizon units have mmWave and sub-6 flavors of 5G whereas the Google store version only has sub-6. mmWave can theoretically achive greater throughput with lower latency the sub-6, but to do it requires a LOT of towers. mmWave signals can only travel short distances before dissipating into static.
You already know Verizon units have locked bootloaders. This is so they can keep all those Verizon-specific apps you never use on the device. Verizon sets the APN automatically when the unit is powered up, and you cannot change it. mmWave is not mature technology as of yet, so it's no surprise you've fallen back onto the sub-6 network.
Thank you for the reply. I read that mmwave is misleading when it comes to Verizon. They said that mmwave is a different technology than 5g. I understand what you are talking about with the 5g that needs alot of towers and also antennae on the phone to work. And sub 6 5g is more or less upgraded LTE. Or 4.5g if 5hats how you want to put it. I also understand that the Verizon branded p6 pro has their fast 5g (mmwave as they call it) the only thing I am unsure about is exactly where c-band falls into this. I see the pixel 6 is listed as having c-band capable hardware but not yet certified or in need of a software update. I am hoping that's all pixel 6 not just Verizon.
But anyway realistically I get about 50mbps sometimes 100 if signal is good. Do I really need more than that? No I don't. It's just the tech nerd in me that wants to see the technology in action

There have been a ton of reports on reddit that VZW cband works on the Android 12L beta. 12L is expected to release in March, possibly next Monday with the monthly security update.
That's awesome. I am on 12l beta now but haven't been back in town where c band supposedly is since installing 12L. I also read on a Verizon site that p6 hasn't gotten it yet but I did not look at the date of the article so that could be old.
Thanks for the info everyone

I have an unlocked Pixel 6 on Verizon and I have 12l Beta. I am a truck driver, drive all over the country, C Band works just fine everywhere
