If you encrypt the internal memory, does TWRP unencrypt and have access? I know the N6 initially had some issues with this, so don't want to go through the encryption process until I know. THanks.

Wondering the same
Sent From My LG V10
Just tried it. First even getting it to encrypt was difficult. Second, when it was encrypted everything would crash on the "enter passphrase" screen making it almost impossible to log in. Third, TWRP couldn't mount the encrypted drive. It prompted me for the pin, but kept insisting it was wrong.
T-mobile LG V10. Rooted, xposed, stock rom.
Ughhh, that's annoying. Maybe post in the twrp thread? I'd love to enjoy my phone as is but also be encrypted.

I noticed that under settings > SD card & storage that my Phone storage shows being read only.
I was wondering what may be causing this and if there is a fix for it, because several of my apps no longer work (BeyondPod being the main one I miss) because they need an SD card to work with.
I'm running the out of the box firmware, rooted using amon ra recovery.
I do have an exchange activesync account that requires encryption and pin, not sure if that could be causing any issues.
I did try to search the problem but couldn't find any relevant threads.
do you have SD encryption turned on in settings?
Is that the culprit?
Looks like I need to download that modified Mail.apk
After I re-locked my phone to apply the last GB OTA with new radios, I noticed that when I booted my phone the entire /data partition was in read-only mode somehow and it was causing all sorts of weird problems as you could imagine. Simply rebooting to bootloader and hitting "factory reset" option on the bootloader menu fixed the problem. I was then able to write to /data again and everything was fine. Obviously this will clear it everything. I was then able to apply my nandroid backup though and restore my system to how it was before the OTA.

thats just my guess... turn it off and see if it helps
Started getting weird read errors when trying to read/write to the card while it was mounted in the phone with the password for the encryption already put in.
I think the card was going bad, or just got all FUBAR'd during the encryption process.
Deleted exchange acct, removed SD card encryption, put in new SD card, re-added exchange acct/re-added encryption, everything works!
because of this my SD card cant mount in recovery for me to perform a backup. is there a work around? or once its encrypted u have to undo it to access the SD card in recovery...
This is most likely going to sound rude but that's the point. I don't know what good it would do to be encrypted if you could still just plug it in and read it
If the other card isn't encrypted just switch mount points and back up to the other card

well with encrypted if someone steals my phone, they still have to be able to unlock it to click it over to Disk Drive. also if they pull it out of my phone its unreadable by a computer. so if i lose my phone the information is guaranteed to be destroyed. and as for switching to different mount points, i tried that. i clicked internal storage, and it still said could not mount storage. im decrypting right now, so i can make my nandroid, but i really wish i could keep it encrypted
it says that the phone uses a password built in somewhere to access the information. is there anyway we can set the password and then use it in recovery to access the card? or does this depend on the card and not the software.
Sorry I just reread my post and it looks like I'm saying that I'm trying to be rude lol I meant that's the point of encrypting the card lol. It wouldn't be worth encrypting if you could just open it in twrp. There are apps on the market that will encrypt just the external card and not both but I haven't tried it. I don't see the point of encrypting it when I can just lock folders. My phone is setup to wipe the card if the phone is ever lost so I'm not worried about encryption

very true, idk i guess i should carry a backup micro to backup and flash my roms. unless can the card be partitioned so part is encrypted and part is not?
I've never tried it, perhaps, I know a partition can be locked and encrypted leaving other partition(s) alone but I don't know if there are any apps that support it

hmm next dev idea? throwing it out there to anyone that wants to take a crack at it. would mean rooted phones would be better for the spy business. you know all that stealth and killing quietly nonsense
If I enable encryption will it interfere with my ability to flash roms at all?
I can't find the link but I know I've read that if you encrypt your SD card then flash another ROM you won't be able to read the data. Never read anything about encrypting the main memory and its effects on flashing.
I have the same question. Can I encrypt my phone after rooting and installing a custom boot loader?
I understand the limits of encrypting the SD card.
Anyone here encrypt there phone after rooting?
@Gargantuantua did you encrypt your phone? If so, any limitations afterwards?

Hi there,
First of all, I know that part of this mess was my fault. I had been using CM 10.1 on my Galaxy S2 for quite a while (since 2013, IIRC), but yesterday I decided to upgrade it to CM 12.1. The "CM Updater" app was not working so I decided to just download the .zip file, reboot into recovery mode and flash things from there. I managed to enter the recovery mode, but when I tried to flash the new CM I noticed I couldn't see the .zip file on my internal SDCard... Hmm, this was because my phone was encrypted (including my internal SDCard, of course). So I went back to my browser and did more research. I found a guy saying that, if your phone was encrypted, you could flash your device using the sideload mechanism *or* an external SDCard. Since I have an external SDCard, I chose this option.
Well, it doesn't much to figure out that things went bad. The main partition was overwritten during the installation and I've lost all encryption. However, that's not the worst part: I've also lost access to my internal SDCard! Now I cannot even make Android ask for its password. I really don't know what to do here. I've lost access to photos and videos from years ago. If I am correct, the upgrade process *did not* touch the internal SDCard at all; so my data is still there. Am I right? Do you guys think it's still possible to access it? I spent several hours trying to figure this out without success, so I decided to post my question here before I give up and reformat the internal SDCard.
Thank you in advance!
I am curious, how you manged to encrypt sdcard0 at all.
Never figured out how to do this on CM.
Nevertheless, I guess, Terminal/ADB might be the only option to decrypt and mount that partition. Unfortunately I don't know the commands on Android (on Linux it's cryptsetup).
Hello hello XDA members just got my G5 yesterday and I noticed that it's encrypted already is anybody else's encrypted straight out the box? And though I do like to encrypt my phone I like to do it myself and I didn't see a way to unencrypt it, anyone?
mine's encrypted, i just assumed it was because i put a memory card in
Mine is encrypted as well...however I did boot up the device initially with my sd card installed.

The good thing is that they are using UFS for the on-board storage so the performance should be fine.
I came from the v10 I was rooted once I encrypted my device I couldn't get into recovery I wonder if that is playing into the rooting problem
T-Mo US. Also encrypted out of the box. Wow, no lag at all.
any way to remove this encryption? mine also is as such from fido in canada

Not without rooting it, which we can't do on our Canadian G5's. (yet?)
