FoxFi is back! - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 General

Hey guys, I tried FoxFi yesterday and it was coming back!
Today, I tried again with different configurations like removing and reinstalling FoxFi certificate, changing Hotspot ID and passwords and then it was gone. I was confused and I cleared the data of the FoxFi app and still not working. Then I entered stock recovery and wiped cache. Hey, it was coming back! I want to know if this trick is also working for you, guys too.

Working for me again too. What a relief. Thought i was gonna have to buy a different phone.

Thx. Got me going again also.

Glad to hear.

I got a response from the developer. It was something that Verizon did. Hopefully they can keep on top of any other changes Big Red implements.

I got this Note 3 Verizon from USA that was already unlocked. I am now using it on Telenor (Different Carrier). How could a person like me could subscribe their Hotspot plan? Verizon should think about it before blocking the method like this. Bah!

I used foxfi long time with contract verizon with galaxy nexus, i continued to use it with prepaid
now i on note 3 and foxfi ridiculous, it required to use certificate, but it required me to setup pin, but i dont like it.
but it still not turn hotspot in one click. it useless for me, may it helps turn on hotspot without subscripton.....
is any other programs can turn on hotspot in one click on note 3?
i have subscription

If you have subscription....then get "HotSpot Switch" from evsoft. It's available on Google Play. It's a widget, tap it to toggle the phone's hot spot on or off.

You can not root once you go to Lollipop, you can not go back to an earlier version that can be rooted.

It means the phone is not locked to a specific carrier. ..but it does not mean that every app will work. The Verizon hotspot program first checks to see if you have a verizon plan that includes hotspot before it will turn on the hotspot.
You need a different hot spot app. Look on the Play store...there are several. Search for "WiFi Tether"

So, there is absolutely no way of wresting hotspot from Verizon, so as to enable you toggle it on/off at will? Who knows whether phones with unlocked bootloader are totally independent of Verizon?
I know that FoxFi free works when you are tethering, but file sharing applications like ShareIt, Xender which also need the hotspot cannot turn it on. Thus, sm-n900v can send files to other phones via shareIt but it cannot receive from them.

You can not use Verizon's hotspot as-is, you must use a 3rd party application like FoxFi but with that 3rd party application. Or if you install one of the several Touchwiz modified ROMs the hotspot app has already been modified to eliminate the check with Verizon to see if you are allowed to use it. An example would be the Jasmine ROM.
Bootloader unlock has nothing to do with "need" for Verizon. Bootloader unlock means you can install a real recovery, install a ROM with a modified hotspot app. and/or install a different kernel (boot partition).

Thank you very much for the clarification. I still think though that if foxfi could work round it to get the to get the Hotspot to work, so could there be an app that beat the Verizon restriction - a patch perhaps.
I rooted my SM-N900V with the Arabic tool. I think it probably did more than just rooting because I can go to the bootloader with ease. Isn't that what unlocking the bootloader is all about? I'm not so keen yet though on flashing a custom ROM.

Fixed Wifi Tether (Fixes now incorporated into new Wifi Tether Beta)

Ok, I think I have fixed the issue with Wifi Tether where when using 3g it will only allow you to go to google sites. It works for me but am looking for additional folks to test and confirm it is working for them also. I also need people to test that it still functions properly when using 4g. I don't have 4g coverage in my area to test. If the testing goes well I will submit the patch to the Wifi Tether project.
If you have an existing version if Wifi Tether installed back it up using titanium, uninstall it, and then install the version attached to this post.
Once installed the following options must be selected:
MSS clamping
Routing fix
Please post your results to this thread.
Update:
I have attached my Wifi Tether changes to the bug report at the project site. If you want technical details of the issue and my solution look there. Hopefully the changes will quickly get included in an official release.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/issues/detail?id=1047
Update 2:
I have a new version ready for testing. Along with fixing the "can only browse Google" issue this version also addresses a separate issue which prevented Wifi Tether from allowing any access using 3g on some ROMs. Please follow the instructions above for installation and selection of options.
Update 3:
The Wifi Tether project has released a new beta with my changes included. It can be downloaded here. I am removing my file. You should now download from the Wifi Tether project and report any issues using their bug reporting system.
Yes got it working on websites other than google (espn and facebook worked) via 3g!! Great fix... one question - should I have the device profile set to Automatic or Evo 4g?

It is definitely something with the CleanROM. I tried other ROMs with the stock kernel and everything worked perfectly but I install CleanROM and sure enough no 3G period. This is beyond the scope I originally set to resolve which was to fix the issue people were having getting anywhere but google.com sites. This was the main issue people were facing on other ROMs.
That said I want this to work for everyone, so I will spend tonight looking for a fix. Whether that is fixing Wifi Tether or identifying what the CleanROM folks need to change to allow this to work on the ROM.
I used to be a network engineer by trade so, the last issue was right up my alley. Hopefully this ends up being a network issue or it may take a little longer fo rme to resolve.

Yea, I installed rooted stock ROM, now it's working fine. I was only using cleanROM because it was as close to sprintlovers as I could find. Guess it's time I learn to cook up my own ROM.. Thanx for this fix man.

I know what you mean. This is my first android phone but I am learning fast. I'm about to the point of rolling my own ROM too. None of the one's out there quite match what I want or if they do one release the next release the maintainer decides to change direction.
Glad it working for you now. I'm going to continue on the CleanROM issue so, Wifi Tether can finally be put to rest as an issue.
Check the 1st post for an updated version which fixes the issue with Wifi tether running on CleanROM.

no root and wireless tether works

I received a used Note 2 on Xmas and quickly installed my micro SIM and sure enough, Jelly Bean downloaded before I knew what functions I was losing. I don't purchase internet at the house because I have been tethering for 3 years straight. I am currently wi-fi tethering using Fox-Fi full version. I had not even recalled purchasing the paid for version of Fox-Fi , but in my search for finding a tether I tried it again and it is working. I apparently purchased it when I was trying to tether my Droid Charge before I rooted it.
I originally thought I could only USB tether, so I did that for 2 days. Just a few minutes ago I tried the option to tether wirelessly. The phone forced me to create a screen pattern unlock (not something I usually use) and a backup pin code in case I am locked out of the screen lock (pattern). After doing this, I had to create a pass phrase for the wireless encryption.....after doing this I entered the info in my laptop and it connected. I feared FOX FI might have "backdoored" me into Verizon and ordered the hotspot feature, but no.....I checked by trying to activate the factory hotspot and got the "contact us if you want this feature activated" screen.
I am not a developer and I DON'T KNOW HOW OR WHY THIS IS THE ONLY APP WORKING RIGHT NOW FOR ME.
I just wanted to share what I just found. I have relied on this site for phone maintenance and enjoyment for 3 years and wanted to try to pay it forward. My phone is not rooted (not sure it can be since I took the OTA).
I'd like to think this will help out a few folks........try it out and let me know if it works for y'all.

Yes.....I am running a 100% STOCK phone. I am not rooted and I am running factory ROM. I'd suggest reinstalling fox fi.
Like I said, I had to implement a screen pattern lock. But fox fi directed me to that. Other than doing that, install was straightforward and usual.

Once you get it setup you can remove the lock screen pattern if you want and it still works. You just need the lock screen pattern for the initial setup.

Use the pattern option first. Then purposefully mess up on your pattern 5 times. You will then see an option at the bottom of your lockscreen to reset your security using your email. Type in your email credentials and it will reset your lock screen security which will allow for swipe to unlock. You don't have to setup your lock screen security again if you just want swipe to unlock.

Thanks. I had a pin and neve had a forgot password option when entering in the wrong pin. Pattern fixed that.
FoxFi Works with 4.3
I download the Payed for version. Works Perfect thanks.
I have always found this to be true. I've never ever had to pay for tether and have been tethering (for free) since day one. I've tethered from my old G1 (tmobile), then my galaxy s Vibrant (tmobile), Galaxy nexus (verizon) and not my note 2 (verizon) all using the "1-click tether" app. Never had to create any accounts, lock patterns or pass codes. I honestly don't know why everyone thinks tethering is not free. It is completely free and the only company i have not tested it out on is Sprint. My sister and brothers are on ATT and i've tested it with their phones (both GSIII's).

There's two with that name. I'm looking at the one that's got the higher rating.
In looking at that app, it looks like it's not working on the 4.3 update as I specifically see people mentioning problems using it with Note II phones updated to 4.3 on Verizon.

[GUIDE] Sprint LG G3 Hotspot [New Method!]

Here is a method I discovered through lots of trial and effort, soft bricking my device at least five times before I found success.
Yes I was desperate.
*Disclaimer: Do not do this if you are not comfortable with flashing your phone. You assume the risk.
** Special thanks to justinswidebody for providing the Services.odex file
Things you need to know.
A. Backup EVERYTHING, as Internal Storage will be wiped out in this process
B. You will need your MSL code to perform an RTN reset (You'll need this for provisioning apps as well as tether accessibility)
1. [ LINK ] Use this Restore thread and download all the links to the dll, flash tool, tot file and phone drivers. Use this restore thread to restore your phone back to FACTORY, WITHOUT PROVISION. (A little tip I discovered, is when flash tool says waiting for connection, do not unplug. Instead in device manager under modem, right click the LG modem and select disable, then enable and device should start flashing)
2. [ LINK ] Download Stump root 1.0.1 (works great for me) to root your device
3. [ LINK ] Download the Services.odex file to your device
4. Install your root browser of your choice (I use ES FILE EXPLORER)
5. Change permissions of SYSTEM to R/W
6. Move the Services.odex file to /SYSTEM folder in root folder of the device /
7. Change permissions of Services.odex to RW- R-- R--
_____Read___Write
Owner_[X]_____[X]
Group _[X]
Other__[X]
8. Copy and paste Services.odex to /Framework folder, and overwrite the existing file. Your phone should soft reboot now.
9. Notice how you no longer have carrier provision, including option for tether under Settings/Connectivity/More. Use the ##RTN# code in the dialer, and choose reset. Here you will use your MSL code to proceed.
10. Your phone will now reset, and provision, restoring the carrier bloat and options for tethering. Now that this is down, the modded Services.odex is locked in. My experience is that, changing this file after provisionining results in a boot loop, everytime.
11. Now configure your Tether settings in Setting/Connectivity/More
12. [ LINK ] download jtether app to turn on hotspot and enjoy!
Nice work! Thanks.
it might be easier to buy or obtain https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en ?
I tried the other WiFi hotspot and couldn't get it to work properly, after it installed the binaries, it caused LTE connecting to keep resetting, but this one you link to may work

Yes I use the same app, it is important to use "2 - Android Version 4.2 or Higher" option under "method". Other then that works like a charm.
Not sure why everyone is trying so desperately to get the stock tethering working when apps work fine?
Wifi Hotspot
Just loaded the wifi app and it's working just fine for now.
I just bought the app, did the #2 setting there & my Nexus 5 isn't seeing it. Was wondering, you guys literally using a tether, like for a laptop, or us this a hot spot to & I'm just not setting it up right. I gave it SU permission, just can't see it.

See if it's an ad-hoc network that it's broadcasting. That's really the problem with all the other apps is if it uses the ad-hoc function that phones are going to see. Your computer would be able to see it though.
Found this through the apps settings, & followed the top one, rebooted & it is working now. I didn't really play with settings, but I must have checked or unchecked something but anyway,

Working for me so far. I got a call while on it, the tether dropped and phone rang. After call tether re connected and all was good.
On the tether app, will work on 3g and LTE without resetting phone or data?
Anyone else noticing phone getting pretty warm, noticeably so, when using the app. Could be normal I'm not sure. And, I'm not sure if its the app or the phone, but this is the strongest hot spot I've ever used. Runs Netflix flawlessly. All other devices & hot spot would work, but this thing is like wifi at home. Well worth the $2.50 I paid for sure!

I seem to remember some chatter back on the G2 forums, about people getting service-cancellations when using these 3rd-party tethering apps, as Sprint can somehow detect them being used; the exploit to get the built-in tethering working didn't result in any bother from Sprint. I'm curious to see how it turns out here, or if it would depend on how many GB you end up using via tether.
I found it interesting when I switched over to the new $100 Family plan it automatically added Hotspot to the account and is not showing an extra charge. I'm assuming they don't mind if I tether over the 20GB +2GB per line as it would put more money in their pocket.

Yup, I can confirm this. They canceled my line for unauthorized tethering and were able to verify the use of Foxfi on that phone. Since then, I religiously only use the built-in tethering hack (where available [emoji6]) and haven't had a problem since. But, as always, YMMV.

They did state they could have hit me with it, but were "kind" enough to waive it because of my tenure. So no, I wasn't.

That's what I was thinking. It's tempting to try this app but I don't want to lose my line. Wish they would just give a warning first.
So you came back later / signed up fresh?

Actually, they did send a warning letter stating that unauthorized tethering was a violation of TOS & if it continued my line would be terminated. At that point, I began to use Foxfi very sparingly & would uninstall it anytime I wasn't using it. I thought I might be able to do that as a workaround, but obviously that didn't work & they sent me another letter a month or two later telling me that line would be canceled. I had four other lines & that one wasn't completely necessary, so I wasn't too worried about losing it.

Ah thanks for the clarification. It is good to know a warning probably would be issued before cancellation. Do you know how much GB you were originally hotspotting? I rarely need it, probably would do more than 1GB a month, but I can see their concern on people sucking down multiple gigs without paying the extra fee.

Anybody using Total Wireless have wifi calling working?

Anybody using Total Wireless have wifi calling working on their LG V30?

Is your sim card registered with TracFone for wifi calling? You can register it by searching for "TracFone e911 registration". I'd post the link but my account doesn't have enough posts to embed a url.
The last 4 digits you enter will be the last 4 of your sim card number. If the page tells you the card isn't eligible you might have to have them send you another sim card.
Yes, I have TW and Wifi calling and VOLTE are working fine on my VS996 Oreo install (I think it's 20k?). I did have to use some hacks with Shortcut Master to get this working, and I detailed them on the VS996 Oreo thread...

Got it figured out. Actually, just went by the steps I referenced in the previous post (ie, these steps: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/wtf-lg-v30-t3790500/post76613814#post76613814)
If you're on VS996, you don't have to install those apps, but I remembered that you DO need to have My Verizon installed and updated (not disabled, as I originally had it). Then follow the steps using Shortcut Master as noted on that post. To clarify a bit, I will rewrite those steps here, because a few minor things were missing in the steps when using Shortcut Master. I used v1.2.4 from APK mirror. Below I have copied in the steps, with my edits in [brackets]:
At this point, my phone showed the carrier cell number, which may mean I was all set, but I went on anyway...
After that, I went back to the phone's settings/networks page, and checked "Advanced Calling" and it said it was activated. I also tried a call from my Turbo to the V30 and it showed HD calling was working. Awesome!
@nnjimmy59 You could try those steps (you may need to install VS996 or use the files mentioned in the link above) to get it to work. Doesn't hurt to try!

Eventually I will. It's too buggy from what I'm seeing so far, so I'm not in a rush. Plus I'm out of town on vacation so I don't have the time or tools to tinker properly here.

Just to confirm. If you put it in airplane mode, and turn on wifi, you able to send text and mms? The reason I'm asking so much is because at my job I have very bad signal with Verizon and sometimes I get no signal. Total Wireless has such a good family plan for data, I might go back to them if this does indeed work.

Yes just tested this now. Airplane mode, turn on wifi, texted my wife via Google Messages. We're both on Oreo VS996.
However I did just try to make a call and it said that I need to activate wifi calling. Weird. I did tinker in these settings a few days ago so I may have broken something. I did confirm this once before so I know it worked, as I tested with another user here. I will have to revisit my instructions and see if that fixes it.
EDIT: Yup, calling works too. My Verizon hidden menu/vowifi was turned off for some reason. I used Shortcut Master to turn it back on, and completed a vowifi call to my wife's phone (while in airplane mode with wifi connected).
Remember, my instructions updated some of the links and locations you're looking for in SM... so be sure to find the right hidden menu items.
I didn't have to go further into LG IMS settings...
And to confirm we're both on TW.

I have the same issue after switching my wife to TW and running your debloated ROM (which is nice and lean BTW).
@schwinn8 I can't find an option for Verizon Hidden Menu in Shortcut Master light. I have My Verizon enabled, but can't login due to having Total Wireless as my provider. Not sure if that's needed?

Correct, logging in is not necessary. Follow the instructions I provided before. In my post, I clarified which menus you need, so it should be clear (I don't remember it off the top of my head... that's why I posted it!)
Note, this may not work in Pie... I haven't switched or tried it there yet... I'm still on Oreo.

On Pie I couldn't get it to work, only wifi messaging. If your on my debloated rom, just download Verizon Message+ and run it and let it active. Test it, and if it works put it in airplane mode and turn wifi back on. It should text.
I then download Google Messages that will continue to work now through wifi.

Thanks, I'm mainly looking to get voice calls working over wifi though but I don't want to back her phone down to Oreo now that she's started using it.

How To Guide Pixel Temp-Sim Unlock Tutorial

Even though the December patch kind of ruined everything, there is another method for SIM unlocking a Carrier Locked Pixel so follow on!
(THIS WILL WORK ANY PIXEL, I HAPPENED TO TEST THIS ON A PIXEL 4A 5G BUT THIS WILL WORK ON ANY RECENT PIXEL)
You first have to go to settings...
Apps and then show system apps
What we are doing here is disabling a system app that has SIM lock.
Search up "device setup"

Ok ok, so now go to Mobile Data and Wifi and Disable background data
Now go to App battery usage and put it as restricted
Insert your SIM Card and it will be sim unlocked

still no option to allow oem unlocking on T-Mobile sad how it used to be so easy to unlock a bootloader unless you have Verizon of course this is the first phone I've had from at&t or T-Mobile that isn't rooted or unlocked.

You have to contact AT&T or T-Mobile for a bootloader unlock. The SIM lock is local, but the bootloader unlock is controlled by the carrier.
I just tried this to use a Visible SIM in a T mobile locked 4a 5g which I had done before using a different method. While it did work for the physical SIM at first, I have it set up with a T mobile eSIM and it won't work with both like it did before. Now if take the visible SIM out, T mobile works, but Visible won't work at all in it. I was using a 4a that I bought as a temporary/spare phone until my replacement battery for my 4a5g came in (it took about a month). I decided to do a factory reset because I figured it would be easier to just let it copy everything from the 4a, but it relocked the SIM which I should have realized before I did it, but I didn't think about it.
I'm going to do another factory reset and try again... I'll update soon.
Update: You may have to install Netguard to get Wifi. Block Device setup in NetGuard.

OK... Now I can't get the Visible SIM to work at all. I'll have to switch back to the 4a. Hopefully if I erase the esim I can get Visible to work again so my wife can use it because her phone isn't compatible with Visible's new network that we need to switch to soon.

It works for a little bit, but I guess it figures it out when it gets Internet access and it's pointless to have a smartphone that can't go online. I'm going to try T mobile customer support again, hopefully I can get somebody who I can understand and they can understand me.
