Our Project Fi Experience coming from Verizon - Nexus 6P General

Just thought I'd pass some info on about my experiences to help people decide whether or not to "take the leap".
My wife and I have been on Fi for about 3 weeks and I will breakdown our experiences...FWIW we have been long time Verizon users (since 2009).
Dollars
Fi - We have 1 GB of data each with the 5X (32GB) and 6P (64GB) payments spread out for the 2 year financing. My bill after taxes - $56.95, hers - $51.95 for a total of $108.90.
Verizon - We had the 3 GB Verizon plan (more on this later) with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4 payments spread out over 2 years. Total after taxes and with 15% corporate discount - $140.12
Savings = $31.22/month
Usage
Me - with 10 days remaining I have used only 114MB of data
Her - with 11 days remaining she has used only 28 MB of data
So we are on track to get ~$17 put towards our next bill. Seeing as how our only other alternative on Verizon was 1 GB shared (which would not have been enough according to the usage history) and would only be about $5 cheaper makes me wonder how much background data was being sent on Verizon...
Savings - ~$17/month
Service in Lexington, KY
So far service has been fine. I actually have better service where I work as I am able to use wifi calling. The transition from wifi to cellular has also been good and while I can notice it, I haven't dropped a call. The only complaint I receive is from my father who lives in the boonies saying that he gets a busy signal when calling and that it may take him a couple of tries to get through. He is the only person I've heard this from and he is on Verizon for his home phone. I actually anticipate having issues when traveling, but since we don't travel much I'm not too concerned because even when traveling through West Virginia Verizon didn't have complete coverage.
Phones
6P - coming from the G4 I miss nothing. The screen and build quality of the 6P and responsiveness and battery life of Marshmallow are amazing. My G4 wouldn't last past mid afternoon due to the inability to find service where I work. I routinely have 40% battery life on the 6P when I go to bed at 11PM and throw it on the charger. Camera options are limited with the Google camera app as opposed to the G4, but I don't miss any extras as I just use the camera on auto for the most part. Besides some of the missing features are available on other available camera apps. The size of the 6P does take a little to get used to and 1 handed operation is difficult, but I don't mind.
5x - The S6 definitely has a better build quality and better screen than the 5x. Fortunately, my wife doesn't seem to mind and although the 5X is a little bigger she likes the added weight savings. She does seem to like the camera on the S6 better, but the cost savings over time more than makes up for that in her eyes. Her battery life was good on the S6 and she never had a complaint, but the 5x with Marshmallow is better.
Bonus!
Since the 32GB 5X was available this past weekend (Black Friday - Cyber Monday) for $349 and since we purchased the 5X within the window we are getting an $80 credit on the phone.
Savings - ~$3.33 per month
Total savings on Fi - ~$51.00/month = $1224 for the 2 years should we decide to keep the phones that long. This coupled with having no bloat and always having the latest OS and security patches are no brainers to us.

Thank you so much for this info, I've been on Verizon for years and was thinking of making the switch.

I switched from Verizon as well. With 2GB and 12% discount, I was paying a tiny bit more than $90 each month.
I now have the 1GB + 24 month payment option on my Fi 6P.
$57 < $90 and that's the bottom line :good:
When not on wifi, coverage isn't the best (Indianapolis area). I can barely get 3G in my apartment, but that is negated with wifi.

Count me in the jumping Verizon ship. Got my 6p delivered today and my son's 5x should be here tomorrow!

Just finished up my first month with project Fi, my bill from Verizon with 2 gigs was just shy of $91 this is my new bill!

[Q] New Android GSM 5-row QWERTY in 4-5 days, or new battery for G1 for 8 weeks?

Hey all.
I've been plodding along with my G1 for ... oh i'd guess a few years now, and it's definitely showing its age. Sometimes the keyboard / trackball is doing things when I'm not using them, the ear speaker doesn't work (for listening to phone calls privately - the speakerphone part still works).... and the straw that broke the camel's back? I'm doing good to get maybe 5 MINUTES out of the supposedly fully-charged Seidio 2600 mAh extended battery. (The original battery is about 1100 mAh or so.) Also the camera is no longer working, and hasn't been for several months now.
So, it's time for me to do something about it, and SOON, like within the next few days. I'm currently on T-Mobile on their 500 minute, unlimited text + data plan paying about $62-63/month with taxes and fees. (I got my plan before they started throttling data. I wonder if mine's being throttled anyway, though, as I can't stream high-quality youtube videos in realtime.) I don't do much talking or texting, but until my battery life went down the tubes I was on the web, youtube, listening to streaming music, etc probably a few hours a day or more.
Is there a cheaper plan on a GSM carrier anywhere I could get unlimited high-speed data on? Or am I stuck with having a bundle of minutes, 95% of which I never use? Or should I maybe consider one of the T-Mobile Value plans, for example? They at first on paper appear to be somewhat cheaper than what I'm using now (except I'm a bit concerned about the data). AT&T doesn't have any of the phones I would use (not that it'd matter as I plan to buy the phone without the contract, probably from a 3rd party) so I haven't checked out their rates. Verizon and Sprint are both CDMA carriers and therefore don't use SIM cards, a disqualifier because I wouldn't easily be able to port my account from one phone to another. (I do have a lot of friends on Verizon, though, and I hear Sprint has unlimited data.)
As for the phone ... I'm basically looking to upgrade from what I have now. Things I'm looking for include, but aren't limited to:
* Full 5-row physical QWERTY keyboard. I know about swype, but I don't want a virtual keyboard taking up real estate, and I want to be able to FEEL the keys.
* very long battery life - at least as good as I used to get with the Seidio 2600 mAh battery in my T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream) when it was new. (The stock battery for the G1 was 1100 mAh.)
* preferably at least 2.2 or 2.3 Android OS native, and I'll want to be able to run 3.x and 4.x when they are available. (Also 5.x and maybe 6.x if possible in the future - I may have this phone at least as long as I've had the G1 (originally purchased within a couple months of release) if not longer.)
I'll most likely be buying the phone off ebay or craigslist to save money on the contract. The one I've been eyeing the most is the Sidekick 4G so far. Other contenders, if there's a way without rooting to make them work with T-Mobile (or another USA GSM carrier) are the Samsung Epic 4G / Galaxy S (the one with the keyboard - I understand some don't have it) and the Motorola Droid 3. I'm reading reports that the Sidekick 4G's camera may not be all that great, and I expect to be using it a lot including in indoor environments. (Another reviewer says it's actually pretty good, though.)
I'm basically looking to spend up to about $150-200 or so on a new phone (ebay/craigslist w/o contract), but I'm at a bit of a crossroads here.
Should I buy the Sidekick 4G (or another 5-row QWERTY GSM phone) NOW (within the next 4-5 calendar days)?
Or should I buy another battery and headset adapter (I seem to have lost mine and have lost count of how many I've had to buy) for my G1 and limp along with it for up to 8-10 weeks longer until I can score a good deal on a really awesome GSM 5-row QWERTY slider dual-core 4G AMOLED phone that may not have even been leaked yet? Also if I do decide to limp along with my current phone, is there a way I could open it up and repair / replace the speaker and camera? Also would it be possible to do any internal hardware upgrades like put in a faster CPU, more internal RAM, etc, and load a rooted version of 3.0 on it?
Also, as for the new phone, I'm definitely wanting something with a spacious keyboard and screen, but that will still fit in my pants pocket. Just to give you an idea of the size of my hands .... (sorry I didn't have a pic of my hand with my phone, so this'll have to do)

worth $100 to go from razr to maxx?

Hi all,
just got a Razr and did not know about the battery life issues, i have 14 days to exchange it but they will charge me $100 + $35 restocking fee so $135 for a better battery really worth it?
I love not having to worry about battery life so it was worth the $100 to me. But if money was tighter, I might of gone with the regular Razr. So really, the only person who can answer if $135 for double battery life is worth it is you.
Yeah I am not sure, I tried it today out of box with no charge and it lasted and hour and a half but at 27% to start, I have a galaxy s and if i use that alot during the day it wont make it. i will try the Razr for a few days at work if its worse then the galaxy then i think it might be worth the $135.
You will have to decide what works for you in terms of value.
I got my Razr for 1c on teh Amazon deal, so I'm willing to deal with its poor battery life. If I know I'll need more juice I end up carrying a short USB cable to connect to a computer and throw a $9 back-up battery charger in my pocket. The back-up does not really guive you more than 1/2 f its 1900mah rating, but it works quickly and is small, light and cheap:
I got one similar to:

Its really hard to judge battery life on a new phone because you use it about 50% more than normal trying to learn all the ins and outs of new phone. i can allways plug it in during the day at work so i might be ok.
your battery life will get a bit better after a few charging cycles. Every single phone ive even had i had to have an extra battery with me so i can go through the whole day without charging at all. Now i have the Maxx and i can do that without an external or replacement battery. If i turn off the mobile data and use wifi whenever possible, i can even go 2 days with decent use.
If you think you will keep the phone for a year or two i think its worth it.
I would exchange it for a phone made by almost any manufacturer other than Motorola!
Got my Droid Razr Maxx on Tuesday, this thing is great, loving the performance and battery life, not really getting the complaints against the screen as it looks pretty damn nice to me. Not a big fan of the built-in MotoBlur widgets (and the stock layout it fairly ugly) but that was all easily fixed. I paid $180 for the Razr Maxx, I can't imagine not having that extra battery life and prefer this form factor over that of the regular Razr.
The locked bootloader is my only real complaint, but I usually found myself going back to stock after a day or two just the same. Still annoying.

done that with my galaxy and am back to stock rom. made it all day at work with 50% battery life left and i used it quite a bit so i think im gonna stick with this one, thanks. My wife dosent like the phone at all she wants to exchange it. so i called verizion and since i got the buy one razr get one free she would have to pay for another phone witch makes no sense to me, i can sell it on ebay for at least $400 or more and buy her a $300 phone and make $100 .

Replacing the P9000?

Hello,
so I need to ask: is there any good replacement for the P9000 at the moment? No one should know better than people on this forum I think
I was never that disappointed about the phone, sure GPS can be useless sometimes and the camera is not that great but that's not always the case and the rest is working fine.
It seems to me that there is no similar phone with the same specs at least in the same or similar price range (up to 400 €).
The reason why I'm asking is the issue that the P9000 is not able to dial emergency numbers with an SD card in use. It just ends the calls.
So when you need it the most it is of no help by not being able to perform the most simple task for a mobile phone.
I still like the phone. It has the right size (don't want a smaller - can't have a bigger one) and weight with great features (LTE bands, USB-C fast charge / Qi, NFT etc.).
Looking for alternatives there were always missing features or not the most trustworthy brands - just like Elephone lol.
For my own safety I will need a new phone soon if there is no other solution. So what's on the market right now that I should look for?

Like you, I moved from the P9000 too, similar reasons, great little phone with too many niggles - give to my son in the end and he dont mind it, he likes fiddling with rooting, custom roms n alike
I bought my mates 6 month old OnePlus 3T, (which I realize is a bit of a price jump if you bought new) which again I will give my son when my upgrade is due in around 3 months. (altho this is a great buy for the price I think atm brand new, after all its only kinda 7 months since it was released)
The problem is (or probably a bonus) there are so many "mid range" phones out there and dependent whether you looking at Chinese brands or more mainstream. If Chinese, maybe look at the Xiaomi mid-range, they seem to get pretty good reviews generally. Thing with Chinese brands some are rubbish and some really great (like Meizu, Huawei etc) and pretty hard to choose which to go for.
Although my next upgrade will be more kinda mainstream (prob Samsung, Huawei or maybe new OP5) I usually note down what I'm after on the smart phone and then check whats available at the price point I'm working on, then I usually check as many unbiased reviews I can and also scan the XDA user forums to see what actual user feedback is like.
Thanks,
I would have nothing against going mainstream with a phone.
The Oneplus 3T seems to be nice but is limited to 64GB and is a little bit too pricy, also no wireless charging.
A little research got me to the Aquarius X Pro. Also no wireless charging (I could live with) and has a smaller screen but overall it is bigger in size and heavier than the
Elephone!
Seems like the P9000 is a rare species with no evolution. Great size for a 5.5"
The Aquarius X Pro looks a nice looking phone, nice price too. btw, I know Geekbuying have a kinda flash 75 hour sale (got email this morning with few mobiles listed) maybe check em out
I was also starting to look around, still unsure. I like the look of the Huawei Mate 9 but the overall size puts me off a little ( I done have large hands) so it will look stupidly large when I good it.
just an edit
BTW I dropped my P9000 and it is now useless what a coincidence.
I log into Amazon and see, that I bought this phone exactly on the 26th of June. And that is the day I broke the screen in half

I wouldn't hesitate a second and buy another one for now 200€. But the dialer thing is a no go and GPS reception often depends on luck.
I'm thinking about Honor 8 now but the glass backside is made for a disaster and I don't know about the EMUI thing.
The BQ seems to be too new to get a price drop. Bad luck with my timing I think
The two features of the P9000 that you will find hard to match are wireless charging and overall size. I haven't come across another reasonably priced 5.5" phone that's as small overall as the P9000 and wireless charging is rare in budget phones. But if these features aren't too important to you then there a dozens of phones to chose from.
A good place to start is kimovil.com - you can select the features that you want and get a list of available devices and prices.
I just bought a Redmi 4X for my son - only 5" and 720p, but an absolute bargain at $125 (now).

Yes, I can live without wireless charging although I got all the hardware and new cars are coming out with this function so I don't see why they can't implement that into more phones.
Size is a bigger problem. Seems like I have to go with 5.2 or less to match the overall size of the P9000. Too bad Elephone is a ****ty company that doesn't seem to care about a phone once it is released.

I just switched from P9000 to Redmi Note 4, WITH LTE Band 20, this week. Main reason: small Screen crack. So far everything fine, I just miss wireless charging.
Good luck, Redmi should be a good choice.
I am going to get a BQ phone, giving a non-chinese brand a shot.

Hang on to what you got... or buy it Now!

Don't do it...
Meh, my N975U is getting over 11 hours SOT on a battery nearing replacement. The N10+ color calibration exceeds the S22U's. I'm still running Pie, no cpu cycle sucking scoped storage. Security is not an issue. My current load is over 2 yo still fast, stable with minimal maintenance and zero malware breaches. Zero display degradation, it looks and runs like it was new (always case protected). Only repair has been one replacement battery on this heavily used Note. Even the original 25w brick and cable (included) still are in use. An excellent build Q all way around.
Projected lifespan, another 2-3+ years. No SD card slot, no sale; I use my 1tb SD card as a data drive. Only apps, the dcim and download folders go on the 500gb internal memory. The cam and spen placement, suck on the S22U. Another Samsung dropped ball...
I also have a N975U1 bought new about 8 months ago* running on Android 10. I prefer the Pie variant. Until Samsung and Google Android get their sorry acts together I'm in a holding pattern for at least another 2 years. That's my plan... and it's pretty painless. The N10+ is still as good as it gets in terms of usability, functionality, form factor and it's just fun to use even after almost 3 years. It's also thinner, 30gms lighter and has a better bezel to displace ratio than the S22U.
* no regrets especially now the S22 line has been brought out into the daylight. Both Samsung and Android fouled out as I had expected. Android 13 is looking fubar as if 12 isn't bad enough.
Yeap... it's a beast that runs like a bat out of hell.
Hey I could be wrong but... I advise you to not upgrade especially to 11 or 12.
There's no roll back from 10 to 9, or from 11 to 10. You can roll back from 12 to 11.
I still consider Android 9 to be the best OS version for this device.
You be warned.
Counterpoint and more reasons to buy one today. However while he's getting 5hrs SOT, I'm getting 10 hrs. Maybe his battery is degraded (mine nearing replacement time, 12 hr SOT is typical), maybe his is not optimized or it's Android 12 working its magic.
CPU cycle sucking scoped storage is fully active on Android 11 and 12.

Is this total run time or just SOT? Looks like it was sleeping for a chunk of that time.
In any event this isn't comparing apples to apples... at all.

Yeah, old wine in new bottle.
My analysis since S7.
S7 was an excellent phone
S8 - transition to Samsung Experience, overall good phone
S9- test phone for guinea pigs
s10 - awesome again (except battery)
S20 - Test phone
S21 - awesome
S22 - test phone- given avg chip performance
S23 - ?? hope to be awesome
S24 - test
s25 - Should be really good and bring in some innovations
Snapdragon 8 gen 2 will be manufactured by TSMC, so let's hope it is better than S22U.
If it provides better thermals and battery life than S22U, I will definitely consider upgrading.
What launch/prereserve offers can we expect with S23 ultra apart from vague wordings that Samsung already gave like 5k additional, early access, best exchange value etc? Any one knows if Samsung watch 5 coming for 2999? And any other exciting offers?
The unboxing video is out -

Cost is high, low exchange value and no cashback offer eligibility.. overall waste deal

Yeah, 50K exchange is ****. I got 20K for my 3.5 years old OP 6T with S22U last year. Looks like they are aware of the S22U issues and don't want to buy them back for hefty price.
I think we can get better resale value of at least around 60 to 70k in resale market if they don't drop s22 ultra prices much after this launch of s23 ultra at 1.25 lakhs
Insane pricing and unattractive offers...
Wow 50k buyback value for s22U is a joke
I am confused between getting battery replaced for my 3 year old S20 Plus or getting S23 Ultra? Any advice?
Also is anyone aware how to redeem pre-reserve pass benefits.
Quick impressions on the phone -
Samsung is using the same Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor from S21 and S22, that is the only bummer, everything else is a good upgrade. The screen looks more clear from up close compared to S22 Ultra. And 50 MP shots are fantastic. The bump in resolution is quite apparent. It takes a few seconds to save 50 MP files though. I just played with the phone for some time at a local retailer in Bangalore. They let me install the device info HW app (quick shared the apk from my phone) through which i checked the Fingerprint sensor. It is essentially the same one (QBT2608)
