Unroot Dell Venue 8 7840, how to? - Dell Venue

Can some kind person please give me some pointers in how to unroot my Venue 8 7840 tablet, so that I can install the current OTA patch issued by Dell - the fix for Stagefright and other security issues.
The Venue is currently rooted with 5.1 installed, that was completed by tethering, Intel Flash Tool Lite, droidboot, etc.
I've tried the SU 'remove root' option, but that spent 30-minutes suposedly uninstalling, with "uninstalling, please wait" on the screen, then rebooted when I touched the screen. Afterwards root was still present, and the current OTA patch fails to install at the reboot/installation stage.
I'm currently trying to download the 5.1 OTA from Mega, but that keeps timing out and aborting mid-download.
Many thanks!

Same, unrooted, even done a factory reset. Still aborting.
In recovery log:
E: error in @/Cache/recovery/block.map
(Status 7)
Installation aborted

[Q] Nexus S 2.3.6 OTA rebooted to exclamation mark

Received 2.3.6 OTA on my nexus s which was unlocked and rooted but on stock recovery (init script was not modified so recovery restored).
On reboot triangle with exclamation inside was shown (been there for 30 minutes now).
Any tips? Should I switch on/off and see what happens? Pull battery?
Sounds like you're in stock recovery mode. Just reboot and see what happens (it should boot normally).
Had to pull battery to get it to reboot.
A few days later I've received another OTA update, and the exact same thing happened again. Also had to pull battery.
Is there anything I need to do in order to receive OTA updates while rooted but on stock recovery?
That happens automatically. What I would suggest, is that you install the update manually. See here: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...or-nexus-s-available-wi-fi-and-tethering-fix/ .
Thanks; instructions mention it should not be done on rooted devices. Is that correct? (I'm on stock recovery, but rooted)

See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056062 . Remember, you will lose root if you do this. You would need to re-root to get it back.
Tried manually by downloading both the update GRJ22 (2.3.4) - > GRK39F (2.3.6) and the full GRK39F.
In both cases, from CW recovery I get a signature error. Log shows:
Verifying update package...
I:comment is 1604 bytes; signature 1586 bytes from end
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
I:verify_file returned 1
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Any clues?

[Q] 6.7.246 update fails on Bionic, please help

I'm trying to update my phone to ICS, it is rooted, and I did have some apps that were frozen, but I defrosted them all before I tried the update. I had it run the OTA update last night, and it failed, so I tried installing it manually from recovery, and that fails too, but I'm hoping the error message I get there will be more helpful as to what is wrong. Message is as follows:
Verifying Current System
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/bin/base64".
"469bd96fa7cde29e422bbc425b102b7a4523ec91". "ca3e32d4
e93e1bade6224bcc881009055d9729a")
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
installation aborted.
Any ideas on what I can do?
Update: I ended up solving the problem myself by flashing my phone back to 5.9.902 using RSD Lite. From there I was able to install the OTA update to 5.9.905, and then to 6.7.246.

Problem with recovery 3e - error message

I'm on the leaked 4.1.2 with stock kernel. I flashed the update.zip to get root which apparently worked as I get Superuser, Busybox, etc and if passes the root check app.
The problem is that when I boot into recovery <3e> and I get an error message in red at the bottom:
"E:Failed to seek in /cache/update.zip )invalid argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation Aborted"
This appears even when I'm not trying to install anything, just booting into recovery. It's always there now.
This is stopping me from flashing new kernels (i.e. Philz). I also get a message on boot saying "Android is upgrading..." every time.
Anyone guess what's happening here?
Can anyone help me with this? I can't even flash a new kernel with PC Odin now. Something's wrong.
No-one got any suggestions? I'm not able to flash anything with either Odin, Mobile Odin or 3e and really want to get CWM working. Thanks.
Android upgrade is normal as it is trying to finish the installation. If you can get into recovery try doing a factory reset to get rid of the aborted installation other wise you may need the services of a jtag to repair it.
Thanks CB. Yes, I can get into 3e recovery. In all other aspects the phone is working properly. You think a factory wipe is the only way of getting rid of this 3e error?

After attempt to return to stock, stuck at logo, no BMM

Hi, I was running CM11 for xt910 and was planning to return to stock.
It wouldn't work via bootmenu manager. it would give the following error:
Installing: /sdcard/0/update.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Warning no file_contextsVerifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/bin/app_process", "76c3a9a7a6d400a9ff3e4db391327daa33aa0663", "2a221441bf06f2618aa6c35ae0cade13bd4f6e1b")
E:Error in /sdcard/0/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
or something similar.
So I attempted flashing via RSD lite, after temporary unrooting via voodoo root manager.
It says successfully installed, but at the rebooting process it hangs. (or is it usual that first startup takes over 5-10 minutes and recovery mode gives an android with a red triangled exclamation, not enabling me to do any of the actions?).
So my only chance is to fix this with fastboot. what should I do?

CM11? Are you sure?
If you have the SBF Fastboot file, located Here, RSDLite under AP Fastboot, and start from scratch!
I've never used BMM, I'm a Safestrap advocate (since it's all I've used). It will retain Stock (as long as you don't overwrite it), and then all you have to do, if you encounter a really glitchy rom, is wipe that Romslot (partition), and recreate/reinstall whatever you want.
I hope I was of SOME assistance.

Unable to update latest oxygen OS OTA

It downloads, reboots and tries to install the latest Oxygen update but fails and asks for a reboot.
At one point I installed Kingroot but removed it afterwards. My phone is also encrypted if that matters.
Thanks
having the same problem with my gf's phone...... was a 1003 model if i remember correct.... recovery just had an "Update Failed" and nothing else.... even flashing the full package failed........ i'm considering installing TWRP and going from there but i'd like to avoid that if possible
