I'm noticing quite a bit of lag, stuttering, jumping when scrolling pages in Chrome and other apps. OOS 2.1.3-x, blu spark kernel #53.
Never mind
I'm an idiot.
Where's the delete thread button?
So you solved it? What was the solution? I have lag too.

Hey all,
I don't post on the forums alot but im a frequent reader, I'll start by saying thanks to all of the devs here who spend so much time making awesome software for our phones.
Anyway, the problem I'm having is when using launcher pro plus, there is a noticeable lag between when i swipe my finger and when the homescreens start sliding with swiping between homescreens. I'll move my finger about a half of an inch, and the homescreen will not move at all. Then, after a certain threshold, it will suddenly "pop" and be right under my finger. The lag ruins the overall fluid feeling of the rest of the launch.
I did a bunch of searching (on xda, launcher pro forms, and google) and found that this seems to be a common problem across many devices, but no one had a good answer on how to fix it. I'm currently running supra rom 1.2 on rooted evo 3d with the ginger thyparancey theme applied, although i have flashed many different roms with and without themes and an experience the same issue across all of them.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a solution? Thanks in advance
It happens to me a little bit, not quite as bad as yours
After some more playing around i think i've figured out how to solve the problem. Enabling the "Keep in memory" and "Motorola Droid Hack" options seem to correct the problem completely, and i haven't noticed any negative effects. Sometimes the launcher begins to slow down again after my phone has been on all day and i've been using a lot of apps, but doing a kill all from the memory manager under quick settings fixes it again. Seems like this may be an issue with other apps using up memory and launcher pro not taking priority over them.
random ideas:
add line to build.prop:
debug.sf.hw=1
Increase VM heap to 48-64m
In LPP settings, find the fling speed and set as fast as possible (does LPP have that? lol)
If you still have issues come ask in the d3rp thread
UPDATE
I tried the CM10 preview #5 and theres no delay or "elastic scrolling" at all.
Seems to be something samsung added as a "feature" in the stock rom.
Heres a video of scrolling in CM10

Hey,
I already found this thread but no real answer or solution.
I noticed a lag between the physical touch points and the positions the apps are getting. Some people referred to that as "elastic scrolling" but it seems to be present everywhere.
Heres a little video that shows the touch position from the android developer options and from a multitouch test app.
As you can see the positions the app gets is indeed "elastic" and seems to be delayed just like scrolling.
Another one that shows the scroll delay (even in lists with just a few elements).
I find it quite annoying compared to the direct input on the HOX or even compared to my old phone running CM7 (a Motorola Defy).
Is there any way to get rid of that behaviour? Oh and since I did not try one yet: is the input/scrolling in custom roms delayed too?
The S3 should have enough computing power for direct scrolling ..
I see this elastic scrolling more of a feature.
Me too, this looks more like a feature to me. Can anyone try AOSP-based ROMs and see if the result is the same? Especially on CM10.

Updated the OP with a video showing scrolling in CM10. Apparently theres no input lag or "elastic scrolling" compared to the stock roms.
Why the hell did samsung add this loose input?
this "elastic scrolling" thing annoys me like hell....
I just bought a quadcore CPU phone, and now my phone likes some WindowsMobile6.0 thing?
Come on Samsung, ever tried scrolling on an Iphone?
Please come up with a better solution...

You do realize CM10 is based on "Jelly Bean" and not "Icecream Sandwich" as the current Samsung ROM's are?
ICS has elastic scrolling...
I'm trying to find a browser without bugs to use on Beans 7 with stock kernel. Typically I prefer to use the AOSP browser but I have not found a method to use the AOSP browser on touchwiz. Here are my issues with the browsers I've tried so far.
Stock: Sometimes I'll click links and nothing will happen until I switch to another tab. Or hitting the back button will result in the page refreshing and not actually going to the previous page (LED back button and browser back button, same response).
Dolphin, love this browser but for some reason it will often times refuse to load a page. It will finish loading and the page will just be a blank white screen and no amount of refreshing or going to different links changes it. I'll have to switch to a different tab and close the blank white one to use the browser. Happened often enough for me to stop using it.
Boat Browser/Firefox/Opera, scrolling and pinching in these browsers all seem off. Kind of unresponsive. Like if I go to scroll down and then try to scroll up there will be a weird delay that Dolphin/Stock touchwiz don't have.
Chrome/Chrome Beta, Chrome beta force closed every five minutes and chrome was really laggy with scrolling and pinching. And the font is really damn weird on these browsers, I have no idea what thats about.
I'd like to get the AOSP browser working but haven't found one yet. There was one zip I found in the themes section for it but it didn't work for me.
Any browser recommendations would be greatly appreciated :highfive:
I tried them all and settled on Boat paid version. Easy to bookmark, easy to retrieve bookmarks and i don't notice the problems you mentioned.

Did I do something to slow down my phone? I don't remember my S3 having anywhere near this much trouble with redraws. It is constant. I am almost ready to switch to the stock launcher if I don't find a fix. Does Nova have this issue? Does anyone else with Apex experience this?
Apex Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Keep In Memory
Make sure that's checked.
Use Nova Launcher, much better

Trying out Nova. So far it seems considerably faster and I've only had one redraw since I installed it. Gonna give it a week or two and then if all goes well I'll upgrade to the paid version.
It's funny how feature for feature it seems exactly the same as Apex.
Before everyone regurgitates the same things over and over again:
1) The keep in memory checkbox exists, but I feel like it doesn't help. I get a dozen redraws everyday still.
2) Nova seems to redraw less than Apex, and when it does, it's less noticeable.
At the end of the day, WHY are redraws even happening? I find this unacceptable.
It's usually a certain widget, despite what settings and mods you might have tried to stop redraws. I found once that Wizz Calendar widget was causing Nova to redraw all the time for me. I removed it and stopped getting redraws almost completely.

Right, it could be a certain widget, but the root cause is that launcher redraws isn't prevented by the Android OS. Unless these widgets are gobbling 512mb of RAM, I don't see why a redraw is necessary.
chrome has laggy scrolling but loads fast and I like how news from different sites show when the app is first opened. I've been using lightning and speed browser instead for the smooth scrolling but they've both stopped receiving updates from the devs. the loading on them feels slightly slower than chrome though barely noticeable and without the news. lightning was good except for a space bar bug when typing in the search bar and speed browser is based off lightning with a few bug fixes. does anyone know similar browsers to these that are still getting updates? normally I'm not someone who checks the news that often but it is nice noticing some things every once in a while. I thought about installing a separate app for news except I might not be opening that to check it as much
