Lol @ Google's Holiday Gift for (assuming) Fi customers! - Nexus 6P General

I received a package today from Google saying Thanks! Happy Holidays! Confused, opened it up to find a lego type DIY cell phone charging stand and a USB type C to regular USB cable. Thanks Google, my 6P shall rest....on legos!

Anybody want to model this with a Lego builder?

Please continue the discussion in the existing thread
Google sent me a Christmas present

ElectronicCrapDotCom Thanks!!!

I wanted to share my story and give a big thanks to Steve over at ElectroniccrapDotcom because he has shown the most outstanding customer service support i've ever received from a company in purchasing any type of consumer product.
Unfortunately I received an HDMI cable (the wiring was a little funky and the video would go in and out if I wiggled the middle of the cable) that was not functioning properly so I had to return it for a new one. It had been about 25-30 days after my purchase that I realized the cable was acting funny because I originally just had it plugged in once and it worked and for 25-30 days I left it alone. Once i figure out it was the cable that was messed up I was honestly surprised that I was given the chance to not only return the cable for a replacement but pay the difference for the Dock. It was at this time that I had realized the dock is a much better choice for how I was going to be using my tablet. Steve at no time hesitated in saying it was no problem to return the cable for a replacement or pay the difference through paypal for the dock.
Usually in a circumstance like this and with any other online company I would be out 30 bucks and have to buy a new cable but to my surprise steve gladly accepted the terms of me shipping the cable back for a replacement or to pay the difference for the dock.
This is just my Thank You letter to Steve and a notice to everyone on XDA who wants to purchase any of this products, You have nothing to worry about because ElectronicCrapdotCom truly has defined what giving great quality customer service is all about.

Easy way to connect your PS3 controller to your Prime

I posted this in the accessories section, but I saw that this is the forum for the tips and tricks, so I am reposting it here, I do not meant to offend, simply to educate.
If your like me, and you can't afford any of the little gizmos that let you plug a USB into your Prime, or you don't want to root it or do anything complicated like that, you just want to play Shadowgun THD with a gosh darn controller...well if thats you, then I got some good news for you.
Do you have a Best Buy near you? If so go in, bring your pad, bring your SONY MADE PS3 controller (I hear it needs to be the actual one from Sony, can't be a Madcatz or any third party brand), and the USB cable, ask where the dock is, or find it yourself, hook up your pad, and plug it all in.
You just need to turn on your Primes Bluetooth, and plug it in the dock, then plug in the USB and hold the PS button, and BOOM, your good to go. I literally just did this.
If you don't have a Best Buy near you, try Staples, Office Depot, Radioshack, Target, Walmart, find a place that has the dock on display. Chances are they dont care. If they do, ask for the manager, or just go to a different store.
I hope this helped out all my fellow Tablet Gamers, have a great day! :highfive:

OR...
You can use Sixaxis Controller on Playstore for 2 bucks. It has a free app to test compatibility before you shell out the 2 bucks.
But that costs money. My method is free (minus gas cost) and hooks up your controller and tablet via Bluetooth without having to root or change Mac address, or download and pay for an app. :highfive: :good:
why did you make two post with same topic?

Hmm, given that I root my devices by default, it totally passed my mind that you need root for that app to work. But I suppose people willing to hook up a PS3 controller will be the kind who root anyway. I know it is $2, but that is a cheaper than the abysmal liquid that passes for coffee at Coffeebucks. Plus, you can do the same with your phones and other Android devices once you buy the app... No multiple trips to Bestbuy. Anyway, it is a good option for those with a dock, I must say! Nice hack you found there!

Thank you very much. I look forward to contributing more to this site. :good:
I think it'd cost the majority of people more in fuel costs then the 2 for the app.

Still cheaper than the $125 keyboard dock, or the other $35 USB attachment. Either way you look at it's you need a USB cable to connect the controller. This way you don't need to do anything to your tablet other than remove the rubber stoppers on either side of the charger plug in.
geez people. OP, thank you very much for your post on an alternate method that may be viable to some people. Your contribution is appreciated.
....was that so hard?
Well, it helped me!

Yeah, sheesh. I have the dock, and PS3 controllers. I've been using them hooked up via USB cable. Now that I've seen this, I'll use it by bluetooth. Thanks!

[$$$ Bounty] Chromecast Support for Nexus Q

Born in another thread (Make an app for the nexus q that adds chromecast support: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379961) i am creating this thread to raise attention that some members have agreed to set up a bounty for developer(s) who can bring the chromecast functionality to the Nexus Q (most likely via an Android app / apk).
For now I'm using this thread to write down the members and the amount they're willing to donate to this cause. We'll have to figure out how to make sure the bounty goes to the correct person in the end (maybe some sort of verified paypal?).
I'll maintain this list here and collect information as well. For developers interested in working on a solution together we could also use this thread.
jbriano, $100
Kovs, $50
Surge1, $50
darb, $50
ianandamy, $50
brianwilcox, $35
jmm701, $25
ocdtrekkie, $25
unknownkwita, $25
eddib, $25
Volatyle, ???
Total Bounty Amount as of now: $435.
Feature Requests:
proper HAL audio drivers working too
Would also like the lights to work how they did if that is possible
It seems that HAL is very important to most of the people here.
I will edit this post whenever new information becomes available.
People wishing to contribute just post in this thread with the amount of money they want to donate.
And I think if people posted features they'd like to see I will add them to this OP post as well.
reserved.
this is great!
I'll flash this around where I can.
I will do 50 to start with
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
In all honesty, without having my hands on either, this doesn't seem like it would take that much effort.
I might have to crack open the firmware dump from each and check it out.
I got $35 on it.
I'm in for $100
I paid for two of these devices, and loved them when they worked. I'll contribute $100 toward the cause.
I'm in for 50.0
Sure
I can do $25.
Would also like the lights to work how they did if that is possible

Great idea! It seems, there is hope for the Q in one way or the other. Androidpolice reported on some developers implementing Chromecast already. Here's the link:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...es-stream-any-local-or-cloud-file-to-your-tv/
I think it is great to see what they can already do. I guess / hope in a couple of weeks we'll have a Chromecast reciever app...
If you'd like to update... I'll toss in $25 as my amount. I don't want to buy a whole 'nother Chromecast worth.
I'll put in $25.
On a side note, is it possible to googlecast to multiple chromecast devices with the content in sync like audio could be on the nexus Q? Because that would be a great feature.
This guy for real?
Hi guys,
if this guy's for real, our problems could be over!
"My Q now works as a chromecast device. Happening to any one else?"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397350
Any feedback on this?
If not; I'm in for 25$, but I want HAL support.

It looks like he's just streaming via bluetooth to the Q...
some more interesting news:
Leapcast, a chromecast emulation app for any device: https://github.com/dz0ny/leapcast
found on reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/...st_a_chromecast_emulation_app_for_any_device/
i'm not with my nexus q, maybe someone could look into it?
and apparently the chromecast uses DIAL: http://www.dial-multiscreen.org/
Let's take a look into the Python code. I'm not very familiar with the language as I stopped using Python when I dropped Freevo years ago. But script is script and the heavy lifting is done by Chrome itself. The script just provides the local network discovery mechanisms so supported apps show the cast icon similar to the Nexus Q's or Bluetooth audio.
After selecting the leapcast device from your Android the script starts the Chrome browser with a few arguments (incognito, no-first-run, kiosk, user-agent=, user-data-dir) and a URL from https://clients3.google.com/cast/chromecast/device/config. So obviously there's some Cookie transfer between the script and the Chrome instance running incognito with the /tmp/ based user-data-dir. Somebody with a little knowledge about Python and/or Chrome will soon figure out what's necessary.
Since I'm the proud/ridiculous/sad owner of 5 Nexus Q I have real big interest having Music + All Access running in all my rooms again. Years ago I ran a Debian installation on a rooted stock-ROM Nexus One from the SD card via chroot environment. So my hopes are up high again because
the script might run in a linux/chroot environment on the Q
Chrome on Android may one day be able to run Chromecast display pages (or already is)
I'm upping the bounty by $200 USD if multi-room audio for Google Music is supported on my Q's. Also, I'll start coding by myself now

Anyone mind creating a step-by-step guide? I have no idea how to "connect" to my Q.
Does it need another ROM or is this possible with the stock ROM as well?

Have 2 Chargers for Free to give

I bought 2 refurbished chargers hoping they would charge my watch (not Moto360 Gen 2) and unfortunately not compatible.
They should work but have no way to test. Will provide proof of recent purchase if in doubt.
No brick or cable, just cradle. Giving them away for free pending conditions below and 1 per member:
You pay shipping and packaging via PayPal
You are an active XDA member and contribute to the community ( I will search to verify )
If you are ok with the above shoot me a PM. It is NOT first come first serve, it's whoever has contributed the most meaningful info/posts.
And I'm not selling them because it's not worth the hassle and want to give back to XDA.
Decision will be made 3/11 and i will PM those individuals than. 3 days to respond after which I will choose someone else.
ARe they available now ?
