So as Google made this very weird decision that you can't save the usb connection options, I wanted to change this to how it was on Lollipop (MTP enabled as default). So what happens here is that "MtpService.java" is responsible for doing this. If you want to simply enable MTP as default, look at the updateDisabledStateLocked() function and simply set mMtpDisabled to false in that function !
Of couse it would probably be even nicer to just really have the menu in the developer options save the settings and use that, but that would be a bit more work. Anyway, just thought I'd share it here for you guys to enjoy !
There's the option in developers settings I believe?

Yes but it doesnt stick: disconnect your phone, reconnect and MTP will be disabled again (unless you use my patch above).
Ah OK! My apologies!

I remember when I first flashed my 6p, I had to set my mode to PTP to get my PC to recognize. I remember setting it to always use PTP but it never stuck. Didn't bother me too much, so I probably won't use your method to stick it.

Sure thing mate. This is only for people who are bothered a lot by it, like me BTW I realize not everybody can compile a ROM. So if there's any interest, let me know and I'll see if I can just post a flashable zip.
Would very much appreciate a flashable zip!
yes a flashable zip will be very nice thanks!

You can ignore USB media when plugged into like a DAC or Car Headunit.
Settings > Dev Settings -> Media : Disable USB audio routing

When I connected my tab to the computer using usb cable, it popped up with MTP and the tab shows in the windows explorer.
But after I push the home button and quit the MTP mode, how can I bring MTP mode back without plug in/out the usb case? Is there any shortcut? Thanks.
How can I share files between tab and computer without using the usb cable?
My computer don't have bluetooth and I don't prefer wifi ad hoc p2p connect.
I feel a bit regret to buy the tab as not to have the sd card slot is really inconvenient. I cannot move the pic in the camera to the tab easily.

Get websharing app from market to copy files without using cables. Trial version lets you copy 1 file at a time. Paid version lets you copy multiple files at once.
Also, regretting about anything is just waste, search and you will find answers to all your questions in abundance, that has most and all the solutions.

Thanks. I will try it.
I searched for MTP and could not find an answer.
Just got another question: How can I reduce the volumn of the feedback "ding" when pressing the menu?

anyone got a shortcut to start mtp without taking cable out and in?
I can't get MTP back at all, I tried to do a factory reset and uninstall lord but nothing works.
Also tried using the "kies saver"from Samsung apps but it wouldn't work either.
Can someone please help me

You mean you are not able to see the tab in the computer after connecting it or the MTP screen is not displayed on the tab?
FYI :
After the latest update MTP screen is shown only when some file operations are going on. Not always when the it is connected to the computer as earlier.

Turn USB Debugging off. I have the Galaxy S 2 on Sprint and it has a terrible habit of turning it on by itself, which disables MTP mode. Not sure where in Honeycomb the setting is, but on my phone it is under settings - applications - development.
Uncheck that and problem solved I bet.

On the tab.
But when I want to update the tab I'll get a message that says "unable to convert to update mode".
and I can only transfer small images otherwise it shuts down (kies)

I bought a USB connecyion kit and use a small USB stick. I also use it for backing up data so that when I do a hard reset on my Tab I ca njust plug the USB stick in and restore all data using Titanium Backup.
Hello to all!
This is my first post at xda so good day to you all I'm an Android dev and a lurker for some time, and now it's time to speak up since I've bought myself my own SGS2 which I already rooted and heavily modified.
My question is: I have a Kia Ceed and I can't make the Galaxy S2 to work with it as a source of music. The car's stereo isn't recognized as a PC so I can't turn on the USB transfer mode. Is there any way to force the phone to turn on the USB transfer mode regardless of what's it's connected to?
Thanks
Marcel

Have you tried...
settings > wireless and networks > usb utilities > connect storage to pc?
Nope, that does nothing. The car's lcd says 'reading' but nothing happens on the phone.

In that case, I think you might be stuck with having your music on your SD card and using a card reader!
Nope, if you are using Stock ROM, it does not use a standard USB ATAPI driver.
CM7 has a USB Storage mode which when turned on, should work. Since it uses a standard USB ATAPI driver.
try settings\ applications \ development \ click usb debugging.

Thanks. I'm not sure if I'm ready to jump in the CyanogenMod bandwagon just yet, especially since it's still in it's early stages. But that's a solution!

A card reader on your car keyring is hardly increasing the number of devices! Just offering a suggestion.

You do, but it tells you that when you turn USB storage on.
I have also same car model (ceed) and also same phone (s2). So Cm7 really does the job? Can anybody confirm? Or is there any other solution that car stereo could recognize sd cards on the phone?
Hello guys,
first let me say that while I may be a noob to the forum I am not a noob to the search features and I used it extensively before making this post. However, the problem I have still remains.
My tablet will charge when connected to the PC, but the USB MTP options do not start on the tablet when plugged in. I have tried all of the suggestions, such as, uninstalling the USB drivers on my PC and reinstalling. I have also checked the advanced storage settings on the tablet and made sure that connection as MTP is checked.
I believe this started happening after I rooted my tablet using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474971 But, I'm not sure if that's the issue.
Any ideas???
Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
J
Note: Currently running Stock ICS 4.0.4, Kernel 3.1.10, Build IMM76.UELP
No one has had this issue?
Depending on what I've done last. In settings under developers options. I've left the usb debugging box checked or unchecked and when I switch it from one to the other the tab gets recognized.
Try unchecking usb debugging. You'll need to be disconnected from the PC to uncheck it.
Please don't flame me if I'm off base here. I'm just trying to help with my old man memory.

not having this fixed is getting frustrating!
Update
ok...So I've tried a couple of other ICS deodexed roms and I still have the same issue...The MTP connectivity will not start on the tablet...
Could this be hardware issue?
Not sure on stock ICS,I hated it and flashed cm10 with pershoot kernel, after that I had the same problem as yu,try Settings>storage>three dots on top right corner of screen>USB computer connection>enable media device....worked for me,I also had the debugger checked off....Or if that isnt it,Bad usb cable??? (EDIT) No go for me ethier,I can only mount the PTP part, not the USB storage
Thanks for your input foxcartman, but I already tried that and it still doesn't work.
more troubleshooting...
ok...so I've tried some more trobleshooting...
I have an HDMI adapter, which works just fine.
I've also tried an SD card adapter and the USB cable adapter, the tablet recognizes both but it does not read any data. ie: the pictures I had on the SD card.
I'm waiting to get another USB cable to see if that's the issue and I'll report back.
Thank you, my new lord & saviour

Hey. Just want to get some music files on my phone. This HiSuite business sucks.
Can some one help or redirect me. Please.
Best solution: scrap Windows 10
Second-best solution: use WiFi File Explorer (I personally use the paid Pro version)
Third-best solution: use AirDroid
Once you've done a few file transfers using WiFi, you'll wonder why you ever bothered with a cable in the first place.
I've been using My Phone Explorer on androids for years http://www.fjsoft.at/en/

If you have no use for HiSuite, ditch it, it's more of a pain than it's worth.
Once you've ditched HiSuite, you will be able to drag and drop files to your phone without issue.

Try turning off usb debug, and when your phon asks charging or file management, choose file management (or something like that).
Airdroid is a piece of crap now compared to Airmore. I've been using airdroid for few years, but when you have to transfer large files, it always stop before the end. Airmore is way more reliable than airdroid.
To ditch Hisuite, juste uninstall it from your computer, and when you plug your phone you have a notification : click on it and change from "charging only" to "MTP"

I don't have the luxury of wifi. Sounds nice.
MTP is set up but HiSuite autoloader pops up on my PC.
I'm going to just use ADB for file transfers.

I just use adb, it's way faster than using Windows Explorer.
The OP probably has solved his/her issue already, but what i did with my Huawei GR5 is uninstall Hi-Suite ( with CC cleaner ) , plug the phone in via usb cable , then ignore what pops up on the laptop or cancel it , goto the phone and scroll down from the top to get the notifications , find the USB option which should be on charge only ( nothing highlighted ) and click on the 'Files' option under the USB icon . Then a represntation of my phones storage pops up and let me modify any files on my phone ie add music or videos . hope this may help some peoples having issues in the future .
Hello. When I connect LeEco Max 2 on my computer, it does not come out USB computer connection and immediately begins to charge. He does not give me a choice – Media device MTP, Camera PTP or Charge only. I suspect I may have chosen Dont’show this interface again. How can I fix this?

This could be an issue with the cable. You should be able to find the MTP options in the developers settings if that helps you.
I tried three different cables and I did not find MTP options in the developers settings. Where else do I search for them?

Are you using Android 8? If so the notification is just under the clock when you open the quick settings. Its really easy to miss it. If you're on Android 7 or 6 I don't know why it doesn't show you.
Android 6.0.1
Heyyo, if you're using Windows 10 it probably screwed up the drivers. Happens with TWRP as well.
You'll need to change it like this
https://photos.app.goo.gl/nRYfpAZ0i50GuM512
Otherwise? Try a different PC or USB port to see what happens
I've the same issue, did someone find any solution?
