Figured i'd post this bit of a review/rant for anyone in the market for this phone.
I recently had an unfortunate accident with my 6p where a small glass pepper grinder fell on the device from a little over a foot high. This very innocent event caused a barely visible crack, but rendered the lcd/digitizer completely inoperable (would not power on).
The phone performance and features are great, but unless you surround this great looking phone with an otterbox and an extended warranty, it just feels(an obviously is) too fragile. I've read numerous posts regarding this , unfortunately after the fact.
i contacted Huawei support but unfortunately they do not have any type of repair program. I find this kind of ridiculous since most if not all other manufacturers do have a repair program. i understand they shouldn't be responsible for accidental damage, but to not support your customers only a month or two after purchasing your high end products just doesn't make sense.
Hopefully this helps someone and doesn't sound too whiney.
This is why Nexus Protect is a thing.
yeah, i should have done it, but i've never been the type to damage my phones. Always a first i guess.
Are you saying that there is no way to get your phone repaired? Or that Huawei won't do it?

I would not trust anyone to repair this phone other than Huawei, and they won't do it. The youtube videos on disassembly look to hairy or else i would do it myself.
You don't sound whiney at all.
Huawei should have a repair program.
All phone manufacturers should have one.
I have Nexus Protect *AND* still kept insurance in place on my phone.

Yeah I have the insurance from VZW in place as well, because Nexus Protect doesn't cover lost/stolen devices.

That is the way it works with all of these type of programs. I'm not sure what you think is BS. There is no other way for Google to ensure that you are buying NP after you have already damaged your device and thus taking advantage of the program.
Phone insurance in 2016 is like computer back-up to me. People that aren't backing up your data off-site in 2016, I have no sympathy for you when your hard drive crashes. Same with phones IMO. If you don't have some sort of protection it's really your own fault at that point. Accidents happen, why would you not spend <=10 bucks a month to protect a ~500 dollar device?
I stopped wasting money on insurance years ago, the manufacturers warranty is it. I just "save" the price of s new device on my savings in the event my phone is lost or stolen. Better than RMA. Horrid customer service etc

I cracked my own screen a week ago and Huawei is replacing the phone for free at no cost. Several others have had the same issue with the same resolution, so your experience is not indicative for everyone. Unfortunately it just depends on the person you get and how willing they are to help you out.

If Huawei won't repair your phone and you won't repair it yourself, and you won't let anyone but Huawei do it then aren't you fairly screwed? You haven't given yourself any options. Does anyone besides Huawei repair these right now?
I dropped my phone from my jeans front pocket down on a ceramic tile floor. Not a scratch - nothing. Everything works. I have a Spigen case and a Intelliarmor screen protector. I'm thinking that whether you damage your device or not is really based on bad luck.

You don't need to add it if you never remove insurance from the line.
I have kept TEC on my line for years.
Every time you add a device it covers the device.
I have never explicitly added a device. I have just never removed it from my line.
I have gotten replacement devices for phones I have purchased from private parties with no issues.
Not to add insult to injury but this is from ifixit...
With enough heat, the panel is easily pried and peeled off, exposing four screws Including one covered with a tamper evident seal. If this is your first visit to iFixit, check out our*Repair Manifesto*to see what we think about things like that.

I'd assume if the tamper resistant seal is broken future warranty work might be questioned. If not, why bother with a tamper resistant seal in the first place?

Worth Ave Group is equally good...and, I can get my device repaired at a CPR-Cell Phone Repair shop that's located within 2 miles of my home (as well as a half dozen other locations within a 30 mile radius)...if my phone breaks, I can get it fixed on my timetable, where I want and never need to mail it off...at worst, my downtime will be 1/2 a day.

So I noticed that on my Photon screen there were two streaks which can be seen in the picture. One streak is much bigger then the other. I know the picture is pretty bad, did it on purpose so that the mystery smudges could be soon.
The weird part is that when I wipe the screen with the micro fiber cloth the screen looks brand new no smudges but it seems for some reason those two spots keep coming back as the screen gets used. Anyone have any thoughts? I have never spilled anything on the phone and I do not work in an abrasive environment. I have tried screen cleaner as well still no luck.
I wounder if sprint would fix this with TPE as wear and tear? Somehow I doubt they will though.
hmmm, well since i work at a sprint repair center, i'll just give you my personal opinion, if you brought to me, i would say it's either physically cracked or liquid damage of some kind, but i would have someone else confirm it, but, just take it to your local repair center and keep your fingers crossed it's covered if not, hey, a deductible for an insurance claim is still a lot cheaper $600
I had an issue similar to this with my evo 4g. I took it to the sprint store store and they replaced it the screen. They said it was pressure points on the screen. I have a thread posted on the evo 4g forums general section, cause just like you i was wondering if anyone knew what was wrong with. Must people said water damage...but i take good care of phones and never put them near any liquids.
So when u get a chance, search the evo 4g general forum...check out the pics of my screen and see if they're similar.

not sure if i agree so much with the liquid damage (but obviously it's difficult to know because it's a picture). It seems as if it is a pressure point like it was in your pocket. me being a tech i have no access to photon screens at all. so depending on how smart the tech you speak to is, it could go either through TEP or he/she would just swap it out.

Touche my friend lol
As the title says. My cousin dropped my beloved Prime on the kitchen titles because she hadn't docked it properly. The tablet dropped out of the dock, but the keyboard is fine.
It has two massive dents in the top corners, because that's how it landed: on one corner (the top-right corner) and then 'bounced' onto the top-left.
How do I get this repaired? I really hate my expensive electrical products from being damaged, so I need it repaired ASAP - I ideally need it for college next week, but I know it won't be back by then.
Do I simply phone up ASUS UK and ask them how much it would cost to repair it, then send it away and give them however much they want? Or is there a different procedure?
Thanks guys,
Phil
Best of luck with that, but as all of the main electronics are assembled on the case back, you are talking about an almost total disassembly and reassembly plus a new back. That will be hideously expensive. Based on what camera companies charge for similar work, I would expect between £100 and £200.

ouch... Hopefully you have insurance on it? If so, then it won't be so bad hopefully, but if not it will be really expensive, likely more than it is worth. Does the tablet still work? If so, you might want to think of selling it for 200 or 300 if your lucky, and just buying a new tablet. I guess it just depends on the cost, but whatever it may be it won't be pretty. Sorry, best of luck to ya.

When it's customer induced damage, you have to pay for the shipping cost, the parts, and the hourly wage for the guys who preform the repair. This would probably require a complete dissassembly, and I bet 2-300€ wouldn't be overdoing it. Sadly...
Your probably better off selling it off at a loss and buying a new one if the dents bother you.
*EDIT: This^^^^
Wow, you guys are estimating pretty low there.
Considering they want $400 just to replace the screen on a $499 tablet, surely actually disassembling it and replacing the backplate would come out being more expensive than just buying a new tablet.
Really you're just SOL. I don't think it will be any time soon that your average repair shop (if at all) will be able to get the parts and do it at a reasonable price.
Either sell it at a discount to someone who doesn't care as much as you do or just toss it aside as entertainment for people/kids; use the same amount of money you would fixing it just getting a new one.
Looks like I'm the first to post about this in the HOX+ section
Had the phone face down after having recently rejected a call, my dad and I heard a tiny sound but didn't think much of it. Later when I picked it up I was in utter shock to find the screen had cracked. The phone is only 1 month or so old and HAS NEVER EVER been dropped.
I gave AT&T a call knowing I'd get no where...and yes, I got no where. So I called HTC and they were super nice. However, they pretty much told me that while screen defects are possible, it's next to never that it's ruled as such by the technician. I sent it in anyway to see what happens.
I really don't have any other options at the moment to getting it repaired as I could not find a single place that sells HOX+ parts. Some have reported HOX parts being cross compatible, but I'm not going to take the phone apart (and risk damaging it) on a "maybe".
In sum, I'm heartbroken and pissed.
And to rub salt into the wound, I'm having to use my wife's old iPhone 3GS in the meantime :crying:
always sad to hear about the death of a beloved phone :crying: Good luck and please keep us informed.
I'm more sorry to hear that u have to use a sorry a** iPhone for the time being

I'd cry if I had to use an iPhone. Sorry to hear about your phone. I think the one x and + both share the same dimensions so maybe a one x screen will work but the leds will be white not 100% about compatibility so maybe check with HTC
These phones are actually really easy to tear apart! Don't be scared

I would hope that a technician could tell the difference between a defect and impact damage. If it were dropped, there would be some kind of impact mark somwhere, especially considering how hard Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be to break. Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks guys. Still ticked to no end, and the iPhone 3GS certainly doesn't help. Should have never sold all my ex-Android phones (urgh).
Still no word from HTC. I'm basically torn between forking over $200+ for the repairs if they're not going to repair it under warranty and just selling it as is on eBay. I figure I can get $300, then use the money toward a Nexus 4. It's going to kill me not having LTE, 64GB storage, sharp screen, nor the sexiness that is the HOX+, but I can't spend $200 after just recently spending $250 to buy it. I don't know. Confused

HTC/Futuretel in Canada quoted me $430 for screen + digitizer. I smashed it a few weeks ago, you can find my thread in the q&a section.

My status changed to "In Repair" today. Not sure if that means they're going ahead and repairing it under warranty or that they're looking at and will contact me soon with estimate. Wait and see I guess. Keeping my fingers crossed.
It does not mean that. Mine said the same thing the first day and it was explained to me that it means they are taking it apart to diagnosis the extent of condition. My final cost was 200. They claimed they needed to replace the casing as well... I didn't argue it and paid up. You can dispute the charges though.

You're absolutely right. An hour later they sent me a quote with the same thing, $200 for the screen and casing. I called them up and asked as to why the casing needed replacing when only the screen was cracked. They escalated it and someone is going to contact me back. I don't have a problem paying to replace the screen (which I hoped to be around $120), but why should I pay an extra $80 for a casing that was in pristine condition.

Got my phone back yesterday from HTC and was surprised to find out that they actually sent me a brand new one instead of repairing my original one. This actually makes me feel a whole lot better about dropping $200.

All in all, I'm just glad to have my [new] HOX+ back.
Love the phone, but I swear I'm gonna wait next time around. So far, being an early adopter has brought:

-Screen protectors that don't stick, or hamper the device

Not to mention it's proven moot to order on day one in hopes you'll get the device earlier. That could change but still, whatever. That 820 though. Two times the power two times the efficiency

That's the whole idea of being an early adopter. Taking a risk. Being an early adopter doesn't guarantee you will get a perfect product everytime. I enjoy the risk, and if it doesn't work out, my credit card company ensures i get my money back.
So please stop calling yourself an early adopter if you cannot accept the risk, especially with your issues that involve 3rd party accessories and not the phone itself.
I've purchased every Nexus phone at launch and a few tablets. I've never had a "bad" device or filed a RMA. Either I'm really, really lucky or I don't get worked up about very minor things...

I must have a Nexus preorder 'rush' every year, learning the device challenge and flashing asap on XDA! Everything thing has worked out well so far.

It's always the vocal ones that have something bad to say against the nexus program. I've never had any problem with any of the nexus purchases i've made. The more vocal ones on the forums complain about the minor things like you said, yellow screen, pink screen, etc etc. Most of the complains are user error or "OCD" problems.
My OP was partially in jest.... Don't mean to complain.

Don't mind me I'm just enjoying Marshmallow.
Seriously though this doesn't effect me much.
- Don't like cases. Never have. Have yet to break a screen on a phone in the last 6 years or so. I'm gentle.
- Never use a screen protector either. I did tests in school to show most screen protectors actually increase the chances of your screen shattering as opposed to not having one on. They are good for keeping your screen scratch free but we have Gorilla Glass 4 here people.
- Mess of cables. Well this won't end anytime soon. I have duffel bags full of wires and chargers. So yes another added charger type is a pain, but i'm loving the charge time compared to my Note 4 Fast Charging.
- Uh ok then. Mines good.

Wow, that the longest empty post I've ever seen!
Funny thing. The vast majority use cases, screen protectors, and are somewhat annoyed at the mess that is aftermarket USB C.

An empty post? Ridic. I couldn't have said it better myself. Haters gonna hate. Best phone I ever got on day 2 order. But it's becoming a chore to negate the detractors. Are any of them shills? I certainly hope that is not the case. Although I did read that they are paid to trash other devices. Could not be right?

Oh lord...please stop.
No ones hating. He simply stated that the frustration of not being able to buy fully functioning accessories for a brand new flagship device has him contemplating waiting for things to be stable before making a purchase next time.
No ones hating. It's a valid frustration. Not bring able to protect your device, charge it in the car etc. He's not blaming the device. He didn't say he doesn't like it. He simply said he might wait for the dust to settle next time...
The conspiracy theories of members actually being rival manufacturers shill posters posting these generally vague negatives are just ridiculous. Anytime someone has a gripe, complaint, or problem people start defending the phone like its their deceased brother that the have to protect their legacy at any cost. It's so out of hand...
And once again this just goes to show what happens when people get a development device and want accessories right away. You will find they make few things for devices like this. You will find far better cases, cords and screen protectors for mainstream devices.
Sorry, I have to disagree with that.
Nexus isn't a development device anymore. When they're advertising them on hulu commercials while streaming "The Voice", they've officially relinquished the development device title. At least as the primary target audience.
These nexii are aimed at everyone now. They're not the crude, buggy dark Android devices of the past. They're the clean Android showcase, and they're designed for everyone.
Again though, I'm not blaming Google for anything. It's frustrating that these 3rd party companies rush what are advertised as pricey. Quality items. OPs main point was that he might want to wait next time.for the dust to settle before purchasing a device, as to not deal with shoddy out of spec items.

The nexus will always be mainly a development device. Other wise things like Root and unlocking the bootloader would be much harder. Even commercials target a a group of people. Couldnt really say as I have never even seen a commercial for it but that could be the simple fact that I dont watch commercials at all. I mean really look at it. What devices are shown at Google I/O which is a developers conference. Not mainstream devices, no flagships just the nexus devices. Their main target has always been developers. yes they may target the average joe but they are the secondary targets at best.
Guys this is my two cents worth. Purchase your note 7 supplies like cases etc... at a discount price. Wait a few weeks and get the new fixed Note 7 most likely at a discounted price. If the note 7 never comes back then returned the goodies no problem.
I can't wait for my discounted Note 7 fully fixed
Good luck

Makes absolutely no sense.
Of course it does you think people are gojg to purchase note 7 full price after a massive recal for a major safety issue like going up in flames. No way some incentives are needed to get people back. You will see.
Makes no sense, this also goes to show whats wrong with this generation of entitlement. Samsung does not owe us any type of compensation for what has happened with the Note 7. Stuff happens. If they just so happen to feel generous then so be it but other than that be happy with your phone or go else ware.
hey, think, think, you really believe samsung is going to sell note 7 a the price of a second rate device? come on, be serious
We will see ......I like Samsung and I wiill get one no matter what, I have s Note 3 now but lets face Note 7 for the mass consumer its pretty much dead. It blows up dude that is not jst an antenna problem. It will take a pretty heavy dutty propaganda campaign to turn the tide on this one. Samsung will offer incentives how much its any ones guess but right now you can get cases etc for it at a pretty low price. Check Amazon.

The Note 7 recall could change how the public sees Samsung smartphones, and that is arguably the biggest challenge that the company is facing right now.
Read this ar another forum exactly my point.

I disagree.
They have put consumers in danger and for some caused injuries and damage. I would say that goes beyond "stuff happens".
For others whose devices have not exploded (like mine) it has certainly cause differing levels of stress and nervousness having the device not knowing if or when it will pop. Im a pretty chill guy but Id be lying if I said it didnt worry me at this point when i charge device. And this whole ordeal has changed how I use my device day to day which is not acceptable.
Then there is samsung asking for everyone to power down the devices and use what exactly in place of it? Not everyone is fortunate to have multiple devices lying around.
Then there is the train wreck of a recall...ive signed up for it and called numerous times and none of the CSRs knows anything and all give different answers which then causes more stress and uneasiness as you have no clue whats going on and clearly neither do they.
Oh and they expect us to drive and drop the defective devices off at drop points. Easy enough for some not for others...me personally im not lifting a finger to drop my old one off anywhere...i have better things to do. You want it...come and pick it up...you screwed it up in the first place.
Then theres the issue of going on an airplane with it...not even going to go there.
Oh yeah.. what about those of us who spent $50+ for ghost armour or similiar things front and back? Of course i have to pay for it AGAIN when i get my new device...whenever the hell that may be. Thats also not acceptable, samsung should be paying for it.
So yeah....your damn straight they owe us, the people who pre ordered and do so every single year and buy multiple samsung devices each year for many years all outright. And in the Note 7s case If I pay $1200 for a device i damn sure do not expect it to blow up in my face...literally
I am the least self entitled person and anyone here who knows me knows thats true but im this case yes I am expecting compensation from samsung for this major screw up.
Stuff happens this is true, but if it was that minor would the US and CAN governments be involved? Highly unlikely.

This will absolutely change the publics opinion and trust in samsung....to a massive degree.
Its not the recall thats going to cost them its the loss of trust from the public which equals lost current sales and future sales and in the long run market share. Their market share has already droppef and it will get worse before it gets better.
They will need to bend over backwards with incentives and freebees to get people back to where we were in buying samung products.
This goes well beyond mobile as well...dont think for a second this wont hurt their other areas of interest..TVs,appliances etc

For informational purpose only how come you paid 1200 dollars for your phone? In US is onky around 650 and hiw come you can't return it and get your money back? Here you can get your money back or get another phone.
I still think once they fix it it wil be cheaper to get one or there will be great incentives.
Time will tell i am waiting a month or two to upgrade to one once the problems are fix.

I believe the Note 7 its pretty much a done deal. Only people like us that really want the phone will purchase one. Main stream I believe the note 7 missed the station long time ago. On the other hand even died hards like us dont like to give our money away. I have been searching and I will consider something like the moto z force if the price of the Note 7 remains the same. Remember its on a no fly list and will take a while to be removed if ever. Note 7 its a tainted phone untill the day it dies. Its sad but in reality , the bad perception out there will not change.
