I own a Samsung Galaxy SIII and I love that device. But the main thing that bothers me is that it's LTE-incapable. That's why I am playing with idea to replace its mainboard with a LTE-capable mainboard of an i9305. Since I disassembled that device and replaced LCD and several case parts a short while ago by myself I will surely be able to replace the mainboard as well. The dimensions of both mainboards looks the same to me. But I am not sure if all the connectors placed the same and if the rest of the hardware (cameras, sensors) will work with the i9305-mainboard.
I would appreciate any thoughts on that topic and some support would be nice!
Cheers

afaik the devices have different display controllers wich are not compatible with each other. for some reasons the imei will be cleared after replacing.
I know from some cases where users of i9305 let repair their screens, but by mistake they placed a i9300 screen and then the problem appeared.
No, they are not compatible.

Hi All,
apologies if i have posted this in the wrong section, if so, please move.
I have been searching without any success of finding a Samsung S3 CLONE that would use a LCD Screen the Original Samsung S3 would recognise. I have not found images in the internals of these clones aswell
I wonder if anyone here or outside this forum has been successfull in finding a Clone S3 that uses the same LCD configuration compatible with the real S3.
I have seen many replacement LCD screens which claim to be compatible but are not AMOLED or have the exact resolution as the S3, so are these "replacement" screen LCDs really used in the Clone.
any one here able to shed some light on this possibility? :fingers-crossed:
Impossible as they are different technology
LCD and AMOLED
Even through you found right size,, right connected LCD screen and attached it into S3, still won't work due to driver problem or something like that

but im wondering what abt these replacement LCDs that are lower in resolution etc and seems to work with the S3. where are these screens from and are these screens used in the clones?
as for drivers, im sure people in this forum can mod something to make it work?

Serious?
Those clones, just another model of phone which "accidentally" has very same outer appears as Galaxy S III, doesn't mean they are compatible.

no way, don't even think about trying it
yes you can
I've installed three different types, all low resolution and one was two small you would see a small black strip at the top because lcd was two short. But they all worked , if you own a repair shop I think its important to figure out who's making these lcd because when a new model comes out and the assembly is 250$ and Samsung designed the s4 to break at the lcd not the glass , so lots of ppl need lcd. So the price states high for a wile , meanwhile the iphone screens break at the glass so there's millions of good lcds floating around the price drops fast , the iphone 5s is already down to 80$ from its original 250 just two months ago . So the iphone parts drop in price fast but for galaxy parts we need to find who makes these clone lcds so our galaxy customers have a alternative repair option under 300$
We do the 5s for 150$ , the part is 80$
The s4 part is 209 so we have to charge 269 installed.
Insurance deductible is 150....

Hi there!
I have I9105 S2+. Accidentally I have broken the screen. I would like to ask if I can replace the broken display on the screen for GT-I9100 (S2). It is much cheeper.
Thanks a lot for reply
Cheers!

I think OP meant to put S2 display into S2plus phone
Yep you're right. Poor reading skills on my part

Exactly!
I have plan to install display from Galaxy S2 into Galaxy S2 Plus. Screen size is similar, even the socket. Is there any chance to do it?
iFixit have disassebly guides for most of the popular handsets out thete. Look for the disassebled S2 and S2plus to compare the parts visually.

I have noticed about that I see it will fit. Otherwise I'm affraid about the digitalizer can work wrong. For example when I press numer 1 on the dialler phone recognize numer 4. I asked not about the fitting itself but about the futuer proper work.
it works - almost
Don't know if anyones still interested, but i got a galaxy SII with broken mainboard and one SII Plus with broken display from friends. so i thought i'd give it a try.
after disassembling both i found that only one connector for the three buttons below the screen was changed - two extra pins. connecting all other connectors the screen was working. and after wiggling the buttonconnector the home button worked. so i cut off some plastic so the connector fits.
All the buttons work now, only the button backlighting isn't working.
its not fully working but functional
Hiya!
For the next 13 days I have 2 Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4s because I recently broke the first one's screen and filed for an insurance replacement. My gripe with the replacement is that it came with the locked ME7 bootloader, whereas my other one is still happily on MDK.
I have all of the tools to completely disassemble a phone (including the uv gun and glue). Do you folks think it's feasible to take the chipset out of my old one and put it in the new one?
The only reason I didn't just replace the screen myself was because I've never done it and didn't want to mess up the digitizer, but i am unsure of whether or not you have to remove the screen to take out the components (you likely do if my experience with other phones means anything)
if they are the same color, why not just pull the back off the one with the broken screen (with the board and everything), and hoook up the front of the good screen to it?

Does that include the exterior casing? It was bent somewhat badly and I'm unsure as to whether or not it'd fit a screen without first reshaping it (part of the reason I didn't just replace the screen myself as well)
ah, yeah im not sure about that.
Do we know if the chipset is bound to the exterior casing in some way?

It shouldn't be. I've never taken a Samsung device apart but every htc phone I took apart was separate from the shell

took a look at a teardown and it seems like you can swap the motherboards with (relative) ease and without removing the screen. Neat, I may try it this week.
I work primarily with computers and I can't think of any reason this wouldn't work. I would equate it to swapping computer cases but carrying the components over, right?

Correct but sometimes as they make improvements to the device over time, components do change. I had an old evo 4g that had a few different hardware revisions and the ribbon cables were different on the digitizers. this device is still fairly new though so you may not have that issue

Here's hoping to compatible insides!
absolutely doable, I swapped my MDK mainboard from a white S4 over to a black one with an ME7 board, then sold the white one with the ME7 mainboard.

+1 to this. I have done it as well. Bought an ebay S4 with MDK and swapped the Mobo (as the exterior wasn't that great) into my black mist phone, put the ME7 board into the ebay phone and sold that one.

If you filed for an insurance replacement, your old phone likely now has a blocked ESN and won't be able to work on Verizons network now.
So if you do the swap, you'll have a working phone, that you can't use.
It worked, though I forgot to plug the headphone jack back in and the motor I think is sitting incorrectly because vibration feels weak and like it "skips"
Either way, I got what I wanted. I'll have to open it again to fix the motor and the jack but at least I got my MDK board in the new phone

Phone still works, they sent me another sim, should i activate and use that one at all?
So, okay. I've searched everywhere but found no reference of Samsung S3's touchscreen compatibility.
There are at least 3?? variants of our beloved S3, but does the touchscreen of a I9300 fit that of SHV-E210L?
I have the E210L with a disabled touch after rooting. Now, I want to change its touchscreen but don't want to buy something I'll regret later. I've done everything from restoring, factory resetting, and re-flashing the FW but still the touch is disabled.
So, XDA-folks. Does the S3 have touchscreen compatibility or does it fit to all Samsung S3 variants?
Bump? Anybody?
Easiest way would be check those selling replacement screen assemblies, if one screen fits several models then you may have your answer.
However, as flashing the wrong kernel seems to always destroy the touchscreen I would doubt they are compatible.
I also don't think you can change just the digitiser, it's glued to the oled and unlike the glass screen is very fragile.

Hey man, thanks for the reply.
I'm thinking about replacing the whole screen, not just the digitizer as I don't have any experience at all with separating the touch and LCD with the heat gun..
Unfortunately, we don't have an eBay-like service here in the Philippines (which do returns) so trying/fitting screens is quite out of my options. Also worth noting is the E210L's antenna attached at the back cover, I'm afraid that if I do buy an I9300's screen it would somehow get in the way.. It's detachable though, but yeah..well..you know. :silly:
Guess I have to resort with phone techs scattered throughout the area. I just hope they don't make matters worse with my phone. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks again!

Rae
Hello folks,
after I bricked my Z2 LCD Display, Backcover and Bezel I replaced it twice by used parts from a smartphone dealer. Twice everything worked well except for the displays brightness. It is neary black, only visible under strong light irradiation. That lead me to a problem with the logic board or did I have had bad luck two times? Even if it showed crap, the bricked Display shined much brighter.
Any hints or experiences with that problem?
Regards,

Hi Loepen09,
I had the same Problem with my first Z2.
Everything worked without problems and suddenly during browsing or something the display got very very dark like in your description. Only under bright light it was possible to handle with the phone...
I've sent it to a repair Shop in Germany, they have replaced the display with backlight twice but no luck..
He said the the Problem was on the logical Board of the phone, something with the backlight Hardware. But instead of buying a new logical Board I bought a new Z2 and sold the old
Wish you good luck!
Best Regards!
Andreas

Hi @loepen09
It is the LCD Illumination Fusible on the Mother board. there is plenty of threads on XDA talking about this one and it can be shorted and bypassed, it could have been blowed out because of the new LCD electrical parameters that differs from brand to another. Z2 comes with different brands LCD From factory.

Thanks a lot. As I don't have the right tools to bypass the fuse I'd prefer to buy a new Motherboard. Did I understand you right, that the same problem may occur with a new motherboard depending on the LCD brand?

bro, do not waste your money for a new mother board. it is a very easy 5 minutes job. you just need a soldering iron. you can take it to mobile or electronic repair shop and they will do the job for you.
You need to be sure that the problem is with this fusible before buying a new mother board. bypassing the fuse wont do any harm to your phone it just helps you to 100% identify the problem.

Well, I called a few electronic repair shops but they all worry about guarantee. As far as I read about it, I have to remove the fuse and bypass it with solder, right?

yes right,
you can test it with a small jumper before soldering and see if the LCD Light illuminate or no. i don't know if you can manage to connect the battery and display and be able to test with the jumper, i think you need some one to help you with holding the mother board in the right position
If you are willing to buy a new motherboard than you can try and you don't have to worry on the Warranty issue electronic shops are talking about
What kind of jumper are we talking about - a simple piece of solder wire?
