Once we have Base... Ports are next.

Fingers crossed. Waiting patiently.

Bumping this as we are more then half way there.
I'm excited for a CM base, I don't know about the rest of you...

Even though everyone is excited for a cm based rom, we have too keep in mind that this phone is amazing because of its camera and I'm pretty sure in order to run those features it'll require alot of lg files so in the end , most of us will most likely adhere to stock than cm , at least IMO

Yep, and in addition to that there's also the HiFi DAC/Amp and the secondary screen. With such specialized hardware I feel like a debloated stock-based ROM is probably gonna always be the best bet, though of course more development and more options are never a bad thing

Working CM 12 is posted in the development section. Flash away.

Differences between the JB ROMs?

This might be a silly question, but what exactly are the differences between the three Jellybean ROMs I see in the dev section (Paranoid, CM10, AOKP)?
None of these seem to have any kind of "feature log" or changelog.
Anyone have any insights?

Paranoid Android Is Jellybean
AOKP....not going there with that one
CMX, Pure build from code. Great rom.
differences, not exactly sure, but most will have a twitter to keep up with changes if possible

I'm not trying to be a ****, but you kind of didn't answer my question in any way.
a) What's wrong with AOKP?
b) I know Paranoid is JB, that's why I mentioned it. Are you saying it's stock JB? Kinda confused on the wording here.
c) Obviously, you're a fan of CM10 (aka CMX). What makes it so good compared to the other two? I see the thread for it has more posts (and thus seems to be more popular), but why?
Again, I'm not trying to be difficult. Just hoping to get an answer without having to flash 3 different ROMs.
Each ROM has different features.
CM isnt just straight AOSP

As much as I am grateful that people are paying attention to this thread and attempting to answer, this is the 2nd non-answer I've received so far.
I know each ROM has different features, that's why I made this thread.
I know CM isn't just straight AOSP.
My issue is that unlike most of the Sense ROMs, these JB ROMs have no feature list at all, and don't even cite any sort of changelog. Thus, I can't make an informed decision on which ROM to flash.

That's like.. not even fully correct.
Please make sure you know what you're talking about before you answer questions, as not knowing the answer will only cause more confusion.
To OP,
Paranoid: Paranoid Android is an AOSP JB ROM that focuses on the fusion of phone mode and tablet mode. Typically putting a phone into tablet mode would be cool, but some features of tablet mode just don't work that well on a phone. So they've worked on making the tablet mode experience work better on a phone. You can read more about it here.
AOKP: AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) is a highly customized AOSP build that is somewhat similar to CM in that it has a lot of tweaks available to it. AOKP actually has a bit more customization than CM, allowing you to center the clock, add the day of the week to the clock, weather in your notification menu, and a few other neat tricks. You can read more about it here.
CM10: CyanogenMod is the most popular custom Android ROM around, with a very large user base. It supports many different devices. We just recently received official support, meaning we will get official releases and nightlies on a daily basis. This is a plus for CM, because we don't have official support for AOKP and Paranoid, which means we might not always get the newest updates. While it has less ability for customization than AOKP, CM is still a very solid AOSP ROM. You can read more about it here.
All three are great ROMs, and at this point they have mostly the same bugs. I would personally suggest CM10 because the development for it is a bit more active and I've noticed better battery life and less buggyness while running that over AOKP.

SoraX did a great job of explaining the main goals/differences between the ROMS>
The reason there isnt a changelog is because at this point the developers are more focused on getting things working 100%. Its the nature of the beast.

Getting the YP-G70

Today or within the next few days, I will be replacing my (pathetic) YP-GI1 for the YP-G70. A charging issue messed up my device and the screen does not detect half of my touches. I have found great deals on Amazon of refurbished models running for 119 USD and was wondering if I should stick with the refurbished model or splurge for a new one. If any owners of this device have information and pros/cons, it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, 64kb.

Afaik, you can't get a YP-G70 "new" anymore but hey if you find a place post links....
I found a good refurbished deal and can get it tomorrow; I'm very tempted to install a custom ROM but kind of like Samsung's firmware. Should I keep it how it is, or use an up-to-date version of Android?

Thanks, I've managed to soft brick my device within 2 hours of receiving it, so while the recovery downloads I'll check it out.
EDIT: The recovery was successful so now I can start flashing a custom recovery.
I've been installing custom ROM's on my Galaxy S for years, just got the SIII and have had trouble with it. Now I'm moving on to my son's Galaxy Player 5. It took a bit of working, but I finally got to play with a couple ROM's on it.
We got his from Walmart for $139, haven't been able to find a better price out there. I am curious as to why they haven't developed a replacement for this. It definitely has a market out there! I don't want my son having a phone yet, and a tablet is too big. Someone NEEDS to put a dent in Apples Ipod Touch market, but Samsung seems to have abandoned this en devour.
Anyway, I am looking for what y'all think is the best ROM opportunity for the 5.0. The CM10.2 is fine, but has just about as much bloatware as Samsung. Tried Team Remics, but less and less support for this one, and it is crashing the keyboard. How is PACMAN?
Not very many choices for a good quality ROM. Is it easy to make one? Where would I start?
Thanks!

I'm glad you've asked this question, and although I only got mine earlier this week I can give you some of my personal opinions on custom ROMs. I recommend sticking to stock 4.2 or 4.3. This includes PAC, CM 10.2, SlimBean, to name a few. PAC and SlimBean are very customisable while CM 10.2 is lightweight. I currently use SlimBean because of its options for customisation but CM 10.2 and PAC are also very good ROMs.

PAC is very customisable. You can change almost everything in the ROM, but be prepared for some bloatware. If you have the knowledge of uninstalling or disabling system apps this should not be as much of a problem. If you like to customise your device, this is (in my opinion) the first choice.
Another awesome alternative to PAC is SlimBean. Like I stated earlier, I currently run this on my phone. It isn't as bloated as PAC and includes Slimsizer which lets you uninstall system apps. It's my personal favourite.

This is mainly because the Galaxy Player 5.0 is an old device and not many [developers] have it. If you wish to make your own, it will take a fair amount of experience to do. You can start by porting a ROM from a similar device (such as the Galaxy S) to this device to get a feel for basic ROM development. Once you feel ready, and you have hours of time and at least 100 GB of storage available, you can build a ROM from source. Building from source means you have control over what apps are included in the ROM, so you can make a lightweight, fast distribution.
For now, I recommend sticking to Jelly Bean, but that is just my preference.
Hope I helped with something!
Cheers, 64kb

Will the I777 ever see the light of Lollipop?

I realize this is the age-old question everytime a new milestone comes out, but I'm eating lunch and it's kind of quiet around here.
Quiet indeed.
If Lollipop makes it to the i9100, then I will do my best to make sure that it makes it to the i777.
The i9100 has a MASSIVE following, but a lot of the devs have moved on to newer devices that are better supported by the manufacturers.
Either way, my fingers are crossed, and hopefully we'll have some code-savvy help if I get stuck. (I'm looking at you @rogersb11 and @TheGeekyNimrod )

If it gets Lollipop I'll be shocked as it didn't get kitkat officially. In fact, it didn't even get a jelly bean 4.2.x update from at&t. Now if you mean custom lollipop roms, then I am sure the sgh-i777 will get at least a few.

I'm still hanging around lol. I know CyanideMod isn't updated super frequently but I wanted to try and bring this old dog something that had, well basically everything lol. So many additions that I've really even shocked myself. From shifted cm where I stated the changes I deleted my branches and started over for CyanideMod. I plan to as I mentioned bring at least one Lollipop build to the i777 and of course will give @cyril279 and @TheGeekyNimrod any useful advice that I can in aiding them bring it as well. I'm quite content with CyanideMod at this point so probably won't myself be focused on Lollipop for awhile as I just dumped at least 2 straight months into it LOL. BUT to answer the OP it will indeed see the i777

The biggest thing I think we will face is updates needed for the device trees. I'm sure there will be a few other snags along the way, but the device tree is a must in order for anything to work. I know CM, Carbon, Slim, Omni, and all the rest will eventually update to Lollipop, and when they do, I plan on updating my builds as well. There's not a lot of us maintaining anything for this device, but I think the general consensus is that we will stick around and try to keep this never dying device on par with the rest of em.
i just want to put out a thanks to you guys for keeping it alive. it was a pleasant surprise to end up back on my gs2 and see that there are still great roms to run my 360 on. it was also a great reminder as to why i don't really need the latest and greatest phone to enjoy owning one.

Ok, my question is neither a disrespect to any dev working on the device nor i decline all their hard work which they put in bringing us cm and twrp etc... This is simply a question...

I hope some custom roms some through fast, the stock really sucks a** and it's just not Android from UX or it's functions! Such crap OS, hell, can't even use basic root apps effectively (like TB) or install straight forward mods (v4A for ex)....all things either screw up the system or just don't work! The CM build by crpalmer seems to be working for most, but it lack fingerprint support something of a factor that made me buy this phone in the first place

Without the correct sources and binaries i'm not seeing any sort of custom ROMs become stable enough for daily use. Even Lollipop ROMs are currently bug-ridden due to Honor releasing ****ty code.

Yea, thanks for the hint though i love all the tinkering I do, I missed the alternative launcher option! I installed Nova and it's much better than the stock Huawei home launcher.
Also, on the V4A, somehow it refuses to work at times and having an "abnormal" status for the driver. Uninstalled it completely now and flashed the Dolby Atmos, seems like my phone has suddenly come alive when it comes to speaker quality and music on headphones.......way better than what I was getting with V4A.

I was having the same problem with the "abnormal driver", then I got the selinux mode changer app and set it to change it to permissive on every boot... Viola! And yes it is much better with a different launcher. I'm running Google Now launcher and now that we have xposed I'm using xposed gel settings to get it just the way I want

Which is the most favored ROM for OPX? And what makes it different from the rest?

Firstly I'll apologise for making such a thread. Every developer gives their best to make their ROMs, but then there are normal people like me, who doesn't know anything about ROM development :3 if our phones get bricked, we're screwed. This is why I'm creating this thread. Comment away! Thanks in advance
This is why we say do some reading before jumping into flashing and try new things.
I suppose you may not be familiar.
I would have given you a long descriptive answer but I think that will break the essence of testing and some ethics of rom development possibly.
I would say - Start reading the development threads initial posts and try them out. They're quite helpful in finding out how stable it may or may not be.
On the lighter side of it : Ashwin's CM13 or Temasek's CM based ROM might be your best bet.... But like I said earlier there are other ROMS as well.

What is more stable, Ashiwn's or Temasek's CM13?
I planned to ask a similar question about what ROM is least buggy so I can use it as daily driver. (I'm most of my time with no internet away from home)
This weekend I spend most of the time reading those topics of the ROMs and haven't decided which one to flash.

i'd say ashwins, have used both and for now, ashwins has 0 bugs (FOR ME) people are complaining about background noise in calls, they hear the people behind yu as clear as you self etc.etc. but yeah, now you have my opinion.
Hit that Thanks if it deserves it.
for me ashwins is the best also and i have tried most of them.
For me (only my opinion), stock oss is best. Although i hear complaints, personally i don't have any issues. It has been my daily driver since xmas i bought this phone.
Really depends. I recommend you give both AOKP and AOSParadox a try. Both great ROMs.
There really isn't a best.... It depends on ehi you are and how you use your device
Loving the color os experience.. Tried almost all the MM roms available for opx but came back to LP as it is more stable for my daily driver. I need Bluetooth which is better in cm 12.1.
Color os has gr8 battery life and loads of customization... Installation is little tricky though.

If u want smoothness !
After installing gapps and other daily apps , I faced lags in all ROMs except
Purity ROM built 8/4(MM)
Cm12.1 built 11 (LL)
With ecofix!
Acc to me these are the stablest for me !
I use xposed heavily .
I was a bit disappointed after OOS 2.2.1 because Bluetooth is not fix. But after reading this thread, I would more install a third-party app instead of flashing another ROM. OK OOS is not perfect and has less customization than Cyanogen but stability and good camera is a must-have for me. Now, I never flashed my OPX.
Exodus bcoz it use layer + opendelta (no need to fladh full zip when update come) + nightly!

Is ashwins being actively developed? In the thread it's seems stagnant and no updates in the changelog for a while.
mokee coz of aegis (+ the rom is rock stable & smooth)
CrDroid with Blue Spark Kernel. Almost no bugs , pure AOSP experience. Cyanogen Tweaks. The way an Android is meant to be IMO
MoKee has been pretty good to me, and Aegis is an insane battery saver. I don't like to have too much bloat when it comes to Xposed and such so having just one great saver is awesome.
I do want to try out other ROMs though, and ColorOS might be my next stop.

I do want to try out other ROMs though, and ColorOS might be my next stop.

I've just tried MoKee and unfortunately, Titanium Backup is not working. And Root Explorer is crashed
