hey there,
I was just wondering if *anyone* has revieved the android 6 update for his Z5 compact.
As far as I see, according to the usual tech websites, it should be available by now but I'm still getting no update prompt.
cheers

No
Only the Z3 and the Z3C have Android 6 beta (Marshmallow Concept) at the moment.
Sony is taking lot of time to release 6.0. I hope they:
- improve the camera firmware for the Z5 camera
- fix auto brightness bug with the colors (already announced)
- implement fingerprint sensor using standard Android APIs and not custom Sony stuff.

To the things you mentioned above, they got many bugs to fix across the board. Let alone the kernel contains many bugs.
Plus, the kernel's CPU power management changed if they updated the kernel to a newer CAF branch (which i suppose they did),
and it takes time for them to refactor hotplug etc.. to the updated scheduler (very likely there will be more than 1 A57 online in 6.0+)
and correctly setup stuff.
It's better they take their time and release a relativly stable firmware >>upgrade, and not a rushed firmware which ends up being worse than Lollipop.
I agree with you Tommy but I think they should have developed a Concept for the Z5 too.
The Z5 Lollipop firmware have some terrible bugs like the auto brightness bug. That should have been fixed a few months ago.
I honestly think that without a proper concept firmware we are going to have a buggy 6.X just like the current 5.1.1
I appreciate all the other info you mentioned from CAF by the way.

ok, we'll wait then I guess
Not yet.
Time is not a matter. I hope they release a great working update next time
Xperiablog reported that it seems the Marshmallow update for the Z4 Tablet is being delayed, so I find it quite likely that the one for the Z5 phones is delayed as well. I would be surprised if it arrives before the middle of February.

I think he refer to this news. "Good news coming from Turkey, namely the Facebook profile of the company. It appears to have begun the roll out of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the range Z5 . At the moment there seems to be a bit ‘of traffic on servers but the OTA was sent and is therefore only a matter of hours or at most a few days."
Unfortunately, we can't confirm whether or not it is true or fake. It's very unlikely Turchey will get it first. Turchey is the country who used F-16 to shoot down Russia SU-25 last year.
I am from Turkey and unfortunately there is no any OTA MM update yet.
It was March last year when the z3c got the lollipop update. I'll say same for z5 line and MM. Sony is officially terrible with updates.

You hit the nail on the head. The existing camera firmware and the poor fingerprint sensor recognition are my two major disappointments with my Z5C. Will be great if they can fix them.

We've also waited for LLP and after months of struggle, Sony released it full of bugs... so they are not really taking the time to release a bug free software....they are just taking the time ^_^. Hope i'm wrong with this one.

Wow! I just fell off my chair! Gimme now lol
I cannot bloody wait! Thank you Sony!
But not for the UK? Has release as USA :'(
No Australia?
The last time Sony VAIO released an Android update, American got it, then a few months later, so did Europe - that was Release 5 for the Sony Tablet.
However, seeing as though that is just a USA forum, in the past, ALL Xperia Tablet S updates have been released at the same time.
Eagerly awaiting the release notes. Mobile Bravia Engine, please!
I'm pretty sure that it will be a global release, we will have to wait till afternoon tomorrow here in europe!

Always has been with this Tablet.
I expect he's just saying that as he is a rep for the US.
Project Butter at last. The main thing (other than the random shutdowns) that bugs me about ICS is the 30fps animations.
60fps here we come...welcome to 2013!!! Fingers crossed for a European/UK launch!
Even if its not a UK release just yet, I'm interested to see if its different or whether they've included the new Sony Mobile launcher. Given this is 4.1.1 after all....
I was hoping for a new feature from Sony here.
If its a good release, I'll cancel my pre order.

Ooooh, interesting - not tempted by the boost in screen res/features? Or just not that fussed about shelling out £400+ within 7/8 months? Will just need to wait and see. My XTS is destined for the graveyard anyway so this will just make its passage to the next life a little more...buttery.
I do enjoy using this device, nice screen size, good processor, so if the JB release doesn't differ much to the Xperia Tablet Z, then not much point upgrading!
Besides which, the XTZ is still over a month away!
Something tells me though that Jellybean won't arrive here for quite sometime...(UK)
Oh, and i just bought a new car
Bit skint.

Fair enough then, makes sense! I am still fingers crossed for the Jelly Bean launch today but, as you say, not holding out that much hope. Since using Nova Launcher I get far fewer shutdowns etc anyway so not too fussed.

It will come out today in Portugal as they've updated the info on Sony update site. http://www.sony.pt/support/pt/product/sgpt121e1_s
Procedimento de actualização do software | 18 /04 / 2013 (Procedure of software update)
Actualização de sistema Android 4.1.1 Actualizar já (Upgrade of Android system 4.1.1 - Upgrade now)
Even tough, the link isn't working and the System update on the tablet isn't allowing to update as it says that the System is updated. It will only be a matter of hours I suppose!
Why 4.1.1 though?
Sony VAIO always seem to be one iteration behind a release. 4.0.3 instead of 4.0.4, I was looking forward to the single gesture notifications.
Not alot of new features really, certainly when you consider it has supposed to have been in development since last September. No Mobile Bravia Engine which is a shame.
DLNA Function? I thought this had DLNA?
I don't know. I stopped trying to understand them since I think they don't really know what they're doing. Nevertheless, the changelog seems a little bit narrow and is only available on GB site (Portuguese and French sites haven't) so I hope the performance enhancements have a little bit more to add to it. Are you able to download it? I'm not.

@ Nimadroid, how is the battery life in your 5.0.2 Lollipop rom?
As most of us already mentioned, there is a memory leak as well as battery drain in all Lollipop roms.
Scrubbers port is still the best for battery although suffers from battery leak.
What other bugs/issues have been solved? Should we expect longer lasting battery life, possibly better than Kitkat?
Has performance and speed been increased as promised?
How about camera2 api? Did sony work on it? Or same with other manufacturers.

going one by one:
doing what? only with stock apps? android doesn't have any way to fix problematic programs running in the background having locked a core and draining the battery.
doing what? also, again, what sony or any other manufacturer never says up front is that the moment you install *anything*, then it is "nope, not our problem, we are not responsible if firefox ****s everything up, memory and battery", so to say that battery is optimised or whatever, when it is not really in your hands, is misleading. At best.
benchmarks are pointless, very easy to fake and you should be ashamed for even mentioning them. at least for ten years now it is known that companies can and do optimize their software to get great benchmark scores.
Also, 5.0.2 is out... 5.1 is out... What version are we getting, exactly?
Has the content-adaptive backlight option been restored? We had it in the first z ultra rom and it saz soon removed. It is very annoying and distracting to have the brightness fluctuate based on what the screen is showing.
have the sound problems been fixed? The sound has a delay whenever the phone has been silent for a wile and there are frequent clicks and pops.
can it FINALLY play music without clicks and pops?
I am very *very* dissappointed in sony.

IT'S MY OWN EXPERIENCE
AND YOU HAVE SOME PROBLEM THAT I NEVER SEEN IN MY ROM
Plz Be careful that lollipop have bug AND NOT SONY
Well I saw imporvements of battery, overall experience and antutu score around 42-43k also in Official CM12, so they are probably general improvements to the Android, that Nimadroid is seeing.
The clicking noises while listnening music is also something it dont have any of the roms I have tried (including stock).
I know it's all suppositions for now and nothing has been announced or can be confirmed but following Sony's support for its previous tablets, do you think the Z3 Tablet will get N ? I just bought one and although I already prepared myself to accept the fact that if N does reach the device, it will probably be its last major update, I could reconsider my purchase if you guys say "no way, period". It'd be a pity to miss the long awaited multi-windows update...
Thanks !
Not likely. With the impending release of the X series, our Z3TCs are now 4 generations old.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic. Xperia Z3 currently running as testing platform for N Developer Preview, most like it will receive N-update in the aftermath. And Z3 Tablet is younger than it's phone counterpart.
And we still have Z2-series, which are still receiving updates. And I highly doubt that Sony will simultaneously cut two generations of Z devices from updates
Yes, actually i'm 99% sure we will get it:
- Sony releases a line each 6 months so the X series doesn't make us "4 generations old"
- There is a N preview for the Z3 series, so they are working on android N for the Z3 (if not they would have released the preview for the Z5 or the X)
- If the Z3 recieves android N then we should get it too, because our tablet is from the Z3 line with the same processor very similar hardware and actually newer than the Z3 phones
- The Z1 got Lollipop but not Marhsmallow, the Z2 got Marshmallow (and it's very unlikely they get android N) so the Z3 it's going to stop in Android N.
The thing i don't have hope is for Android M
it's difficult to say that the tablet will get "N", but if the tablet get it, will be in 2017. only we have to wait..
Sorry for my english.
We certainly have the horsepower, but perhaps not the user base to justify it? So, let's yell real loud!
I would be sad if we don't official get N simply because the custom development of this device on XDA is one of the worst I've ever encountered. I noticed that this beautiful powerful device is really underrated in the Android community. Currently, even though several regions have already released Marshmallow for this device, nobody knows a reliable way to root it, nor can anybody confirm that it is successfully rooted on 6.0.1.
Furthermore, since NUTs XZDualRecovery development has stalled completely, I really don't know how long a bootloader locked root method will stay alive. On YouTube most of the videos of this tablet is about the unboxing after the release but that's all. I really like this tablet and it has received good reviews, but the popularity is pretty much non existent which I find it strange.

I agree the development for this tablet is almost nonexistent, but you can have root on android M, you just need to flash 5.1 root with kingroot, install XZDualRecovery, flash prerooted zip of android M and done.
I really hope there will be an update to N. As of now, my tablet is completely stock and I hope to keep it that way. Just easier.

I don't mind how my screen looks. If my screen is good enough then I am ok with it. I just wanted to get someone's opinion.
Go with S8/S9 or even the A8. I have lost faith in Sony's camera output, Amoled screen can also be a single reason to switch
No doubt... XZ premium.. True Sony...
Not sure about Z5 premium, but last week, after good few years with it, I upgraded from Z2 (currently Carbon Black ROM) to Z5 dual SIM (stock ROM so far). I like the look of it, how it handles, how fast and responsive it is. Fingerprint reader is an added bonus.
Brand new unlocked Z5 phone is aprox 290USD in my country. I would say you get quite a good spec for your moneys. Most of my friends have their Huawei and Lenovo crap, despite being few years old Z5 still shines here.
Just my 2 cents.
Cheers
Buy a Oneplus 5t or wait for the 6. its cheaper and has flagship specs better than the lastest xz

If i were you i would keep my Z2 as i dont like sony stock firmware as it runs slow and lags for me, I dont know about the Z5 premium if it lags or not but developer support is a must in my case
The developers support is the problem, although xz premium has less developers than other devices
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
If you look at developers support..a phone developer support starts when the company ends support for the device... Looking at Z2, from 2014 to 2016 though there is developers working at various roms, infact for stability most of us preferred staying on stock rom and only few people who unlocked bootloader to experiment with latest android and new features ported from flagship devices... Since Z2 was one hell of a flagship it didn't need much working on..just a latest version rom satisfy but on the same hand stock rom also new and was pretty happy to have all stock features.
And Z2 wasn't laggy or slow and it's smooth as butter all days long. Towards end of 2016 when Sony said end of support, then starts people like us frequently visiting XDA for new roms with latest version, latest security patch. Also more developers starts getting involved to take Z2 to a new height to keep it updated and last long.
Likewise Z5 premium which is not laggy or slow has got nougat and end of Sony support is happening.. So from this year end onwards there will b developers getting involved more to bring new roms nd features to the Z5 premium.
One problem is we don't want to lose Z5 premium 4K features and other stock functions.. For that we need to stay on stock rom. There is custom alternatives for Z5 premium and few mods can enhance stock usability of that phone.
If u ask why z5 premium not that popular is bcos of its snapdragon 810 chipset which was a failure when launched bcos of overheating and battery issues... 810 easily heats up... Sony did made updates to control overheating by downgrading performance. Still losing a single 1% performance is not acceptable for people like us..
So now there's d answer solving all problem, getting that rich premium feel and big 4K with snapdragon 835. And that is XZ premium..
If u don't overuse the phone Z5 premium is ur best friend for life. Otherwise XZ premium if u can ask dad to buy it. Or exchange Z2 but I don't think there is much resale value for Z2 in 2018.
If Current Z2 has not much problem then use it for 1 more year... Snapdragon 801 is performing well above expectation comparing to newer phones on market.. Except latest android....
Still it's ur call...

I know how to XZ premium feels becuase he had bought it for himself asked me if I wanted to switch to his Z5P. So I read what you have written and I will keep my Z2 for now and watch the Z5P forum if it gets any atention by developers. Only thing I can complain about Z2 is it's cameras. Main camera used to be good but after many years some scratches appread on the camera lens so the quality of my pictures dropped a little bit but the main camera is still usable. Frontal camera was bad and still bad so nothing I can do about that. So the Z5P will stay as a backup phone for now and maybe I will switch to it as the time goes on.
Well custom rom/kernel development for this device was pathetic enough now the ****ty people at asustek decided
not to update the ultra to oreo. They just updated zenfone deluxe and posted @ zentalk fourms that ultra will not be getting the oreo. Reasoing : in order to ensure the stability of ZU680KL system and user's best experience,
the company finally decided not to plan further software update to Android 8.0 system which
caused inconvenience. We are very sorry thank you for your ASUS product. Support . Well i request u all to send email or contact the asustek in anyway and make them to update the ultra to oreo . What a shame. Its one of the better devices i have owned screenshot of conversation is attached. :crying::crying:
Just awesome. I'll never buy anything from Asus ever again.
What a bunch of crooks and liars. Shame on them.
F*ck Asus. Was waiting for Oreo update for my ultra.
Well this surely pisses me off!
I'm officially learning how to build Android for our phone. I only have a few years coding experience, but I'm going to give it my all. Wish me luck boys.

all the best-good luck!
while i had this device, I tried to port miui eu (deodexed) from the mi max 2 pro (same processor, resolution, graphics) but could only get to mi boot animation. Not many resources out there (mostly old and understand porting is a very case-by-case task)
might get interested in the device again if some rom development starts. Weird as it has a qcom processor but all interest is in samsung, sony, and even some smaller Chinese brands but not this one. (6.8 screen maybe) admit i have very little knowledge if any on development but tried it anyway
So that certainly means kiss off Android p. Asus definitely doesn't mind stepping on their own crank. Such a great / fast device, but it was almost abandoned from the first few months.

What about rumors that Zenfone3 Ultra at last will get 8.1Oreo upgrade? Lot's messages everywhere around Jan 3rd 2019 and no word from ASUS.
Any clues?
