What is the name of the Ariel/Antenna connector? - MTCB Hardware Development

Hi,
The FM tuner in my unit has given up and no longer picks up radio stations.
As an alternative I want to use my existing car antenna, and plug it in to my Nooelec nano stick, which has an MCX female port for the the antenna.
Im looking to buy an adapter but dont know what the antenna connector for the android unit is called, looks kind of like a phono plug?
Does the make sense? In short I want an MCX male to this phono type plug female.
Any help out there?
Thanks.

This into this...

I believe that is a DIN antenna plug.
Can't seem to find a DIN to MCX adapter though, you may have better luck...!

That's a Motorola car radio (or AM/FM) connector.

Thanks guys,
At least I have a name for it.
It is looking like an adaptor doesn't exist. Ive spent hours this afternoon searching but keep coming up blank.
Closest I could find is this : http://www.mp3car.com/android-tablet/156654-mcx-to-motorola-car-fm-radio-antenna.html
Im not sure if that will work so may have to just buy them and try it.
Im about another 5 internet searches away from throwing this head unit in the bin and installing my old factory fitted unit.

That connector is usually used for UHF/VHF wich I think is close enough to FM that they are interchangeable. I would find an antenna for that connctor that you can fit somewher in your dash or maybe in the edge between your winscreen and dash.

Thanks,
I ended up making my own using scissors and electrical tape. No additional connectors necessary.

Bottom connector for XDAIIs

Does anyone know where I can buy the plug that plugs into the bottom connector for an XDAIIs?
I've asked everyone I can think of, searched Google, Maplin(UK) and Expansys and I can't find one.
It's probably because I don't know the correct name for it!
Ideally, I'd like one that has all 22 connections and even cables attached - they look really hard to solder onto by hand!
Any information would be greatfully received
Thanks

http://www.gomadic.com/connectors.html sells connectors
Wallaby, Himalaya are compatible with HP iPAQ Connector Plug Assembly (19/22/38/39/41/43/51/54/5500 Series)
but read that the plug of BlueAngel is not exactly the same.
I purchased an XDA II car charger from the O2 shop in Manchester - it came with a plug that works fine with my XDA2s - have used it on the car charger and on the supplied power lead - charges fine.
When I got my IIs, it CAME with the plug already, any standard car charger can plug right into that plug and then the IIs... You sure you guys didn't get it?????
I think you mis-understood me - I'll try again!
I have developed a complete installed car kit for XDA, XDAII and IIs that does the following.
Mutes stereo when in call and puts all sound to front speakers
Can put navigation commands through the stereo
Hooks up to external microphone
Has PS2 (Holux) and RJ11 (TomTom and Leadtek) GPS connections
Charges device
I'm trying to get hold of a connector with 22 connections because I have one problem left.
To switch the car kit on, I either need a 5V feed from the device OR need to be able to put 5V in on one pin and get 5V out of another.
If anyone can help with either the connector or letting me know which pins I might be able to use send me a mail please
Thanks

USB extension cable for the TYTN 11 pin connector?

Hi all,
As per subject...
Anyone know if such as cable is available?
I was planning on getting the new 3-1 Adaptor for the TYTN to make use of the 3.5mm jack and charging feature in my car.
The thing is, the cable for this adaptor is very short and cannot be hidden easily when in the car. So, I was thinking of using an extension cable of some sort, so the adaptor could be more easily hidden elsewhere under the centre console.
Many thanks.
USB Stupidity
Hi,
Affraid i didn't find anything either, and wanted to do the same thing.
I resorted to buying the cable from expansis and "Adapting it my self"
The project was fairly simple, and if your happy with a soldering iron and a multimeter you should be fine.
I now have a small connector on my dash that will disapears under the dashboard to a breakout box. All i basicly did was chop off the box that has the two female connectors in it, extend the wire with an old cut up parralel printer cable (multicore and was lying arround) and then terminated in a project box from maplins.
This has two headphone sockets, (audio out stero, and mic in) as well as a USB socket to charge the phone. (the plan was to have the USB socket be usable for data... but that bit went a bit wrong...
Still from the testing i have done, i now have tomtom and WindowsMedia mp3 play back comming through my car stero, and my VarioII reports to be charging. Havn't had a chance to test it on a long drive yet, i think i might still need a beefier 12Volt to USB adapter.
If anyone want more info on what i did, i'd be glad to help.
here are some pics, sorry v bad Q....
I don't seem to see any pics?...
Ooops...
here you go
Seems good to me- as long as it all works ok then its a good job.
Always been interesting in making my own adapters/cables but have never tried. Perhaps I should give it a go!

Any news on that extension cable yet; is it available?
i brought one of these and successfully lengthened it with an old peice of printer cable (only multi core cable i had to hand)
i then used an off the shelf diy project box to hide the junction in.
worked very well, but i have since changed to a bluetooth car kit.
the soldering was a little small and working out which wire was which was a bit of a pain, but all in all only took an hour or so to sort out. probably worth it.
(AFAIK my dad is still using the one i adapted.)
sorry to put old post on top !! but own a dimaond and just buy a touch HD !
i a m looking for this kind of cable !!
If someone have info !!
where to buy for exemple ?
thanks in advance !!
how about extending the power cable? seems like that would be easier.

11 pin usb connector....

Here's a good one for ya, I need to replace the 11 pin connector on my Hermes, I already have a replacement jack thats the standard 5 pin mini usb, I know it won't be fully functional, i just want the darn thing to charge and i know the standard will do that as well as sync w/ a computer. Now my problem is, theres the 11 pads to solder onto on the board, but i don't know which is what. So, if one of you techies knows the answer, GREAT! if no one knows it, if you could by chance just take a photo at about 45 degree angle looking at the back of the usb jack, that would be AWESOME! I've looked through the wiki and cant find any pics of the angle i need.... Thanks for your help guys!!

replacement for the USB connetor
Hello together,
has anyone an idea were to buy the 11pin usb connector which is inside the Hermes?
Greetings Pudl
11 pin socket!
htc do a little adapter that allows charging and a wired headset to be used at once isn't this the answer to all your problems?
1: remove 11 pin socket and solder into your fone! could be the same as the one in your fone!
2: wire it into your stereo and attatch 5 volts to charge it in the car
job done?
i removed the plastic from the plug and fitted it in place of the mini usb plug in my brodit active holder and can charge and use my wired headset at the same time if i need to
i also cut the plastic off a headset and added wires so i could charge and listen at the same time, i removed the headphone speakers and fitted a 3.5mm socket which allows me to plug it into anything with a line in socket. i can even use it as a speakerfone as i fitted the socket after the microphone!!!

[Q] iBolt Car Dock (or any with) Audio Out?

Does the iBolt car dock have a 3.5mm audio out? I've seen a few sites who's spec's indicate it does, however it looks similar to the Verizon one, and I have my doubts.
If no: Any car docks for the Rezound out with audio out? Is this even possible through the USB port? Should I be looking to upgrade my stereo with one that supports Bluetooth?
Thanks all,
Drew
As a side note: I've seen the charging problems with both VZW and iBolt docks, and the fix - My girlfriend and I are both very handy with a soldering iron, so I'm hoping I can fix that without much trouble.
I believe they are one in the same. I have the VZW branded one and it says ibolt on the box.
The mount does not interfere with the audio jack on the phone, so no need for a new stereo... sorry!
Can you link to the fix for the charging? I have not come across that yet... but it is a real issue.
I'll have to track down that thread, but I'm pretty sure it was on XDA. The fix involves shorting pins 2&3 (i think, don't try it yet!) on the phone connector inside the dock. This tells the phone that it's connected to a high-amperage source, and it can draw more power. If you do this, you, of course, want a 1A or greater charger. The best fix would be to pass pins 2&3 through from the phone connector to the charger connector, but that's more work.
I'll see if I can track down the thread and link it.

Had the I ibolt but returned it because of the charge issue and because the suction cup mount couldn't articulate into the position I needed it to. I bought the mount in the link above, it is far better, I mounted it with the fixed mount but I also bought the suction cup mount an it is also a better design than the ibolt and would have worked where I wanted it but I found a Better spot for the fixed mount.
This thread references the problem and a generic fix, I couldn't find the one that was specific to the dock. Perhaps the thread was from a different handset or a different forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367120
I could be doing this mod soon, if I do, I will try to take plenty of pics and maybe do a short write-up.
I don't really like the look of the craigsdock, I prefer the VZW/iBolt one.
Edit: Found it now, look in this thread:

Radio Accessory for Exynos Models?

I would like to find a portable solution for listening to FM radio through my Exynos model which doesn't have native support.
The best solution would be some kind of Android-compatible, USB Type-C radio accessory that recieves signal from the headphones.
Since USB Type-C is still relatively new, I'm guessing it would be easier to find a Micro USB version and use the adapter.
I've also got a 2mm gap to clear from my case to my ports, so it wouldn't be flush anyway. A cable or raised surface would be optimal.
I'm just hope that the solution can be secured in jean pocket, haha.
Please let me know if you have any ideas.
