Yes, this device is rootable.
Hey there, figured I'd give you the heads' up. This device is very easily rootable, and you can find the details at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 (seriously, download it, follow the prompts, select 'Other' and ensure your phone is in either MTP or Charge Only mode when connected to USB), sitting on its stock 4.0.4.
Easy does it!
Cheers
If anyone is interested in specs and benchmark for this phone you can find it in this link:

For thr price i recon its a bargain. Its not a samsung s3, but with 1 gb ram 4 g on board i think it good.
Once you load it up it can be a pitty laggy at times, but hey i can cope with with that price, so iam happy with it.
Root ZTE T81
Hi all, It seems that no root method including Bin4ry's and SuperOneClick, have worked on my Telstra ZTE T81 so far, and the bootloader is impossible to access through ADB using "adb reboot bootloader" as the phone seems to go into DFU mode(red light, black screen, no response till you pull the battery out).
Physically I only seem to be able to access recovery mode, FTM, and DFU with a combination of the power and volume keys. I have a suspicion that maybe ZTE, in their recent FOTA update that i naively installed may have something to do with my being completely unable to access the bootloader or root the phone.
Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated
Device: Telstra ZTE T81
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: T81_T01
Kernel version 3.0.8-perf-svn21987
Software version T81_M01

I have bought the phone and it is very good and have also tried rooting the phone aswell. I have done the exact same as you with Bin4ry's and superoneclick and also noticed there seems to be no bootloader. I would like to root my phone but for now I guess we can't
Thanks for useful links.
Thanks for the benchmark link over there. Your links served too good. It was good visiting here. And if someone gets more about this device share it over here as I am looking forward for this phone.

The recent update for the ZTE t81 will also un-root a previously rooted device! I rooted my t81 about 4 months ago with Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31 and it worked perfectly, first time, no problems. However today, after I downloaded the new update, my device lost its root. I am currently in the process of attempting to re-root my device. I will let you know what kind of result I can get.

I tried the above method and it does not work.
There is no "others" to select in the menu.
So have you acutally rooted on of these phones?
I'm not sure if its applicable but this ZTE Avid 4G
{link to GSMArena I'm not allowed to post}
seems a similar specced ZTE phone, apart from the CDMA and FM radio.
If so, would the root method used here work on the T81?

NB: androidforums also say that ROM Manager will permanently brick the Avid 4G

Hmm, I've tried just about every method available and still no results, this device sure is a stubborn one.
I would advise anyone with this phone and wanting to root or keep their root not to update their firmware from the stock version otherwise the phone becomes unrootable. ZTE however, have assured me their update should not effect the rootability of the phone, this doesn't seem to be the case though

Huge thanks to yodhe for this!!!!
Yeah. Worked for me too. Reboots a couple of times and you need to ensure its rebooting into FTM mode.

Dear Lenovo Support,
I regret to say that unfortunately I had an opportunity to update the Android version of my phone Lenovo P780 from Android 4.2.2(stock version) to Android 4.4 Kit-Kat ver. latest released by your good Company, that I have downloaded directly from the Integrated Lenovo system update over Air/Wi-Fi.
Then, just right after update installation and phone restart I immediately started experiencing worst ever problem with Voice quality transmission while talking on the phone with any of subscribers/friends/colleagues.
Nobody can hear my voice at all or hears rustling with constant voice interruptions. Very poor voice quality transmission indeed.
You are kindly requested to support my case and provide qualified instructions on how to fix this problem and avoid farther problems, as it is impossible to use the phone anymore while such problems exists.
Thanking you in advance for your kind assistance which is highly appreciated and hoping to receive your soonest reply,

Look in post How about some modems in the section Vibe.
Root your phone and try change modems from there. Backup first.
Reply
Dear stympy,
Thank you very much for replying to this matter.
If I get you right, this is distinctively a problem with modem, whereas the version of the modem included in general update to Kit-Kat version for users worldwide that Chinese developers Lenovo published is not compatible to work with all countries cellular network providers, particularly in my country - Ukraine and the only solution for fixing the problem is to find a compatible/proper firmware of the modem.
Please confirm.
Since, my Lenovo P780 is fixed to stock version and never been rooted before, can you please advise if root is compulsory and provide the link with step-by step guide in order to root the phone if it is compulsory to change the modem version and the link with modem versions.
Also, please advise if I will need to change for a custom rom in case of modem change etc.
Thanks again for your kind support,

First you must tell me if your system has been updated to KK version.Andoid 4.4.2.
Second you must tell me allso if your ROM is ROW(Rest Of the World) or Chinese.
Here is the link with how to root your phone:http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p780/help/rooting-tutorial-kitkat-t2835605.
This is for ROW.
Because you are from Ukraine(by the way i am sorry what is going on in your country now) here are 2 sites with two awsome comunityes from i learn alot of things:

Good day stympy,
Sorry for not replying for a long time. Getting back to the issue where nothing changed to a good side and I still experience problems when nobody hears me properly as if I am living underground in the tunnel and the Wi-Fi signal by the way is not stable.
My Lenovo P780 has the next firmvware:
1. Firmware ver. P780_ROW_S223, 2014/09/01 - last one updated over air recently
2. Firmware of radio module: P780.ROW.V104, 2014/09/01
Not sure whether the phone was rooted before, as I got it new device but from the seller-guy who flashed the phone.

Hi. You have the ROW version , thats mean: Rest Of the Worl, not Chinese.
To check if your phone has root, can download any root checker from market and see.
The next step is to change modem software you must root your phone and install custom recovery like TWRP or CWM.
After root and custom recovery go to my post: How about some modems and you will find there alot of modems for KK. That modems you must use. Not others. They are located in folder:Modems for S221 LATEST UPDATE. For Europe i recomend: modem_P780_V101_Life_Vibe.zip
Your firmware is the last OTA for sure.
Good Luck.
Modem change
Thanks for your clear explanations stympy. For sure will try out today, evening time.
Before I proceed can you please advise
1. How to make proper backup.
2. Is there a way to test the quality and level of the signal after modem change procedure to see and check if the level of transmission of signal is high enough to be sure that this modem firmware suits me best.
Thanks a lot in advance
Will revert with results in any case.

Hi.
1.The proper backup for me is with custom recovery TWRP. You can allso backup the 2 folders(system/etc/mddb and firmware) with the modem software with ZIPME fom Google Magazin.
2. The quality and level of signal after modem change is to keep monitoring you phone signal and speak. After this you will see if signal is crushing and the one who you talk is hearing you and revert !

****, I am still stuck on with USB driver Installation.
The files you have provided, I have successfully downloaded them.
When I connect the device to my laptop, the PC sees the device and asks for a driver, I have installed these drivers you provided but my laptop does not recognize them as compatible drivers saying that device is not recognised, I am stuck and I think I can not move any further because of this
Zero results
As the result of my many hours attempts yesterday to make the phone working and recognized by the PC properly lead to zero results.
The problem with the driver. The PC detects the connected device asks for a driver, installed the drivers you have provided stympy. But Lenovo P780 icon doesn't appear in the list of devices in My Computer or Explorer or when appears after Clicking on it, does not show the content at all. Empty list.
Owning many different phones, I neved had such a problem before. All devices after short drivers installation were always recognizable at first connection.
Strange and very dissapointing.

Attempts for phone root with intention to change the modem
Dear stympy and the rest of to whom it may concern,
Writing again to submit my dissapointment that has no positivie results at all. Not able to root, install TWRP or any other ROM Manager software etc...nothing!
Would like to specify that I have a Lenovo P780 device with 4 GB memory and most likely a device for sale on Chinese markets as labels on the cover box of the phone and stickers under the back cover are in Chinese language.
Although, the device I bought from a seller as new device was upgraded to a firmware he said, in fact I do update my firmware over air which is designated for the "Rest of the World" (as per Settings info.).
I go through the step-by-step guide written by stympy and I am stuck with SP Flash Tools software.. I tried using the SP Flash Tools as per the guide while the phone is in switched on and off conditions but the utility does nothing to the phone, as if it the phone is not recognized by SP Flash Tools.
When I connect the phone to the PC in the switched off condition I get the message thatn an as USB device not recognized asking for a driver (I browse to the drivers folder indicating the correct driver initially it was recognized and now not anymore) but when I Connect the phone to the PC in the switched on condition then phone is fine, immediately get recognized and I get access to the Internal Memory and SD Card content.
Very, very strange and ridiculous behaviour.
Same problem actuall to other PC connected with my Lenovo P780.
I wonder if there is another way to root my phone and change modem firmware. Please keep me advised accordingly,
Thanks a lot for your support

Hi. Lets try this trick :
1. Look on the internet for this app called 1 Mobile Market apk
2. Download and install.
3. There you will find alot of chinese app for rooting.
4. Install and try to root your phone.
5. If you succeed instal Mobileuncle Tool and flash TWRP recovery from there.
6. After this you can flash modems
7. Good luck.
8. Waiting for feedback.
Sent from my Lenovo P780
SUCCEEDED!!!
I am back with good news. I managed, I managed!!!! Yeeehaaaa!!!!
I managed to flash TWRP and root by the method you have described above stympy.
Now, what I was doing wrong is that upon running SP Flash Tools software I was connecting the phone with USB Cable before pressing the Download Not Firmware upgrade button and NOT AFTER as advised (1) and my second fault is that I used only one scatter file coming together with TWRP and recovery.img.
I have succeeded flashing with the alternative scatter files for 4 GB version.
Check with Root checker - device rooted!!
Now, going further I have put the model firmware as "modem_P780_V23_S226_ROW" on the internal memory of the phone and will try to install it via TWRP manager.
Please advise if this firmware will not work well or work as bad as previous one, Do i just install another modem firmware on top of the installed one and that is it ?
Thanks

Modem Firmware change success
Dear stympy,
Once again writing my feedback to confirm success in modem firmware flashing, changing to "modem_P780_V23_S226_ROW". (looks to be latest one available to download and with hopes that most corrected version)
From now on the voice quality is better enough than before, the voice quality is much clearer and higher, but still not smooth enough.
During the tel.conversations on the other line, the person who I am talking to hears my speech with interruptions from time to time.
Do you think I still need to give another tries for alternative firmware ?
Please provide again the link to the folder with modem firmwares stored and also advise which firmware best suits my case.
Thanks

Hi. You could try one more who i think is the same as v23. The modem from LiFe rom must do the job. I used both and have no problems.
Good Luck.
I will for sure try the firmware you have advised above.
Moreover, I proceed to receive an OTA Updates for the Android system, but taking into account the last issue with modem, understanding that it will not do any good only harm. What do you think about it ?

My Nexus 6 has presented me with an interesting challenge. During my attempts/process to root my phone, inevitably, one must reboot your phone. And as the reboot takes place the phone always goes into the "Charge" mode and not the "File Transfer" mode that the phone was in as it began the root process. I'm at a cross in the road because I cannot complete the root process. The only option that has presented itself to me is to restart the phone. And while my phone works properly, it halts the root process. I have just purchased another USB cable that charges and transfers data/syncs to cover that question. Any hints would be appreciated. I have had this phone unlocked using Chainfire's Nexus Root Toolkit a while back. It worked flawlessly. I've not really been interested in a custom ROM/Kernel etc. but in continuing to research this area. I'd like to try and unlock then root the phone again. Any hints would be appreciated
If your phone got the January update from Google, they patched a ton of the "exploits" that previously were/can be used to root Android devices. These were pushed out to the Nexus line by Google and made available for OTA by wireless vendors otherwise. This could be the issue you're running into now. If you haven't updated, then I think you just may need to find an alternative rooting method, as the one you tried may not be 100% compatible or is missing some sort of command to direct the device to go into file transfer/download mode.

If you haven't updated, then I think you just may need to find an alternative rooting method, as the one you tried may not be 100% compatible or is missing some sort of command to direct the device to go into file transfer/download mode.

I really appreciate your perspective. And without a doubt I'll look around and see where this goes. Just reading about all the work that has taken place since I purchased the phone, the landscape is a lot more enticing.
anyone help me with stock rom wont boot and says use emergency recovery but i tried kies and the other software says phone unsupported
Hey have you ever figured out how to fix your phone....I had the same problem...I experimented with ODIN and I was able to successfully re-flash my Samsung Galaxy Express 3. There are some other options you need to check in ODIN to make it work...Please email me at [email protected]
I've just spent the last week messing around with a j120a. There 2 available firmwares on the net that you can download. J120AUCU1APC8 April 2016 and J120AUCU2APJ2 November 2016. There is a newer Jan 2017 but it's nowhere to be found on the net yet.
This is how I successfully installed the OEM Firmware.
1: Installed latest Samsung drivers
2: Downloaded & installed latest ODIN
3: Put phone in emergency mode (Vol down + Home + Power), then Vol up to select E-Mode
4: Run ODIN & plug your phone into the PC via a USB cable
5: Click the AP button and select your ROM(Firmware)
6: Click Start & it installs.
Possible errors & their solutions.
1: If your phone shuts off during the install process you need to swap USB ports. On a desktop use a rear USB port. DO NOT USE any extension cables or USB hubs or front USB ports. USB cable MUST be plugged directly into a rear USB port. Laptop, not sure. I never tried. Try swapping ports.
2: If while installing the firmware the install process errors then you are installing an older version of the firmware. It will not work. You must install the current version or newer. Start with J120AUCU1APC8, if it errors then try J120AUCU2APJ2. The J2 worked for me.
Note!!! J120AUCU2APJ2 comes in 2 versions the Oct. & Nov. versions. Every file I could find was the Oct. version. It is lacking a security update that the Nov. version has. Because of this the Samsung Galaxy App (Samsung App Store) will not work and you will most likely not be able to upgrade to the latest Jan. 2017 firmware via the OTA updates. It will just say you are already up to date. But your phone will function properly otherwise. Once someone uploads the Jan 2017 firmware the you can most likely use the above directions to install it.
Hope this helps.
Custom rom for j120a
Does anyone have a link to a working custom rom for this phone?
Root successful...........but at&t?
I was able to root with firmware version J120AUCS3AQE1 but because mine is an AT&T phone the bootloader is "locked and signed" meaning it's never going to unlock........? I have the latest version of firmware that came out in may 2017 and it will be available to you as soon as I can post an outside web address............ Every Recovery image that I flashed caused everything to fail and a big triangle that said AT&T detected software on your device that is not allowed on our device so I guess this one is never really your own........ but you can Root with Kingroot and supersume pro to get rid of bloatware and such but other than that no custom stuff on this one.
If Kingroot keeps freezing just restart phone and keep trying it took me a long while to obtain root.
Hello together,
I have a really big problem with my new HiSense A2 (with 6.0.1 Marshmellow)
This is a double-side Android-Smartphone from Alibaba with a 5.5" LCD on front and a 5,2" EInk on back.
So, it will be impossible to find a working custom ROM, for this device as I believe.
I really love this device - if two problems were solved....
1. Problem
Tried to unroot with RootKHP Pro 1.9 - when finished, it says OK - device is rooted, but SU says not rooted and no access to the system-directory.
Then tried KingoRoot - it recognice the Device as Hisense A2 but brakes operation and can't root it.
Is there a possibility to root this Smartphone?
Had rooted all my devices in past cause using titan-backup and other apps that needs root-access.
2. Problem
I'm developing watchfaces for the Samsung Gear S2 and S3 and own this wearables.
Unfortunately the app "Samsung Gear" isn't compatible to the HiSense.
So I got the three apps:
- Samsung Gear
- Samsung Accessory Service
- Gear S Plugin
from my old (and rooted) Smartphone, a LG G2 and installed them onto the HiSense.
Installation was sucessful and everything seemed to be OK.
Can connect the Gear S2/S3 with Bluetooth to the HiSense, they appear as paired devices in the bluetooth-list.
But the app Samsung Gear could'nt establish a connection to the Watches and stays in searching mode - anyhow the Watches are paired and accepted the code with 6 numeric chars..
Is there a way to get Samsung Gear connecting the Watches and push the notifications from the HiSense onto the Watches?
Searched hours and hours in the web for help.
But could'nt find a help anywhere.
Hope, some here can help me to become glad with the Hisense.
kind regards
Veronica

Hi,
I tried to root my A2 using kingroot, towelroot, framaroot and one click root apps without success before I found this thread.
drfone app showed "rooted" although the phone was not rooted. Meanwhile, the windows version offers rooting for free and it rooted my phone. However, I am trying to unbrick it since the following reboot...
It is quite possible that this problem would not exist without the numerous previous failed attempts.

Peter
Hi Peter,
do I understand correct, DrFone in Windows free version was able to root your A2, but now your device is bricked after a reboot?
This sounds really fatal.
Hope, you're able to bring your Phone back to lifeain - crossing fingers for.
If your A2 is working again, could you explain, what you did with, please?
kind regards
