Sp flash tool error "unrecognized ROM detected" - Lenovo P780

Hi guys Need a help with flashing my mobile.currently using miui v.6.1.21 row 8gb I need to flash my lenovo p780 to stock since I decided to sell it.I tried to flash the KitKat version(s228) with sp flash tool version(3.13040.0.119) but after I loaded the scatter file and hit the firmware upgrade button and connect my phone the progress bar just jumps to 100% red line in the baground of progress bar and just keeps running waited half an hour nothing happens, the timer just kept running.tried with stock version s119 and s124 same results.so I downloaded the latest flash tool that is sp flash tool version(5.152.4) opened the tool and loaded the scatter file but the preload was empty I manually loaded the correct preload after pressing download the tool gave a error "unrecognized ROM detected" have no idea what to do. PLEASE HELP.

As I said got error "unrecognized ROM detected"
Do you think this will work ?http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v02G0SCsR30

The solution that I've found works well in this situation is format all except bootloader in SP Flash Tools and then disconnect phone, select Download option (not Firmware Upgrade) and reconnect phone)

1.If your phone is not already soft bricked, back up whatever you want. External SD card is fine. If your phone is soft-brick then say goodbye to your data and skip this step.
2. Uncompress all the files you downloaded from this thread into a directory where you can remember. Including the ROMs.
3.Shutdown your phone if its not in a bootloop. If it is skip this step.
4.Open "Device Manager" on your Windows PC.

6.Recognize the device tree where it appeared, and wait for it as you unplug and plug in your phone again (if bootloop, its automatic!)
7.Catch it with a right click as it appears! Then choose "Update Drivers" and pick the directory where you uncompressed the drivers you downloaded above. Its ok if after catching it the device disconnects. You only need to install the drivers now.
8.Assuming the drivers are correctly installed, run the Smart Phone Flash Tool.
9.Click on scatter-loading and choose the scatter file "MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt" of the ROM you want to flash.
10.Make sure the checkbox "DL DA All With Check Sum" is CHECKED
11.Click on "Firmware->Upgrade" button.
12.Plug in your powered down phone via the USB cable again. See it flash.
13.When a big green circle appears on the screen, your are done!

Additional information about the Lenovo P780 (some information might be duplicate),
This device is usually shipped in 2 software flavors
(In addition to the hardware flash being 4GB or 8GB):
1. Chinese based version - These ones are Lenovo software ROMs sXXX, sXXX, sXXX (to fill out)
2. Worldwide / English / ROW based version - These ones are Lenovo software ROMs, s119, s123.
I Saw a couple of posts online that identifies the different version of the device by the appearance of the battery markings (Though i'm not sure that these posts are right 100% of the time)
The partitioning of the EMMC is different between the 2, and as such, Images from one of the flavors cannot be flashed (using the FlashTool) onto the other(the images are just data, the structure that is incompatible is the scatter file). - You would probably get an error from the SP flash tool since your scatter file differs from the map that actually reside on the EMMC (Nothing would be flashed).
Please note that these problems only apply when flashing an image onto the device, and not using a script / existing file system (Recovery and .zip files are using the on-device file system to update roms, that should work regardless of the scatter/base)
Rebasing:
If you'd like, there might be an option to repartition the EMMC in order to cross-flash versions.
Note that there might be 'radio' issues accross different areas for as these roms might not designed to run in your region.
Preload mode - Flashing with SPFlashTool:
On the p780 There is no need to press any volume to access preload mode (I.E. Mode that is required for flashing using SPFlashTool) just hit 'download' and connect the usb to the device while powered off.
MTK VCOM Meta mode:
If u screwed up your Prealoder, Meta mode can be accessed and you can flash with SPFlashTool
Accessing meta mode is using VOL Down+power until u see on the PC "MTK VCOM Meta" or something similar.
SPFlashTool:
Both version 5.something and 3.something seem to work for me.
Dumping your own rom:
One thing I'v noticed is that if you dump your entire image (For example with MTKTools)
The preloader paratition outputted WHEN READING, differs from the input paratition file THAT IS AVALABLE ON DOWNLOADED ROMS.
Seems that when writing with the spFlashtool, address 0x0 is in fact 0x800 (ie, in the file you dump from your device there are extra 2048 bytes before the preloader paratition). If u'd like to flush a ROM you dump, be sure to check for this. It is very noticable that a downloaded rom prelaoder.bin differs from a dumped preloader.bin in the first 2048 bytes.
==
The above information was VERY VALUABLE to me when I received my phone, and this information weren't to be found anywhere gathered together.

Ok, I answered my own question. Flashed to ROW S123 using the PC tool and then updated OTA to S124. All working fine, baseband changed from S820 V51 to P780 V23 during the flash. Don;t see much difference between the two ROM's other than a new Video app and a few new options.
LED still not working for notifications on S124
@ashoknraj, thanks for the deatailed instructions in first post, hardest part is installing the damn drivers and there are some steps which were different for me to get it working:
- Download the drivers and install on the PC using the exe tool in the package. Once installed, ensure USB debug mode is enabled on your P780 and that it is powered on and then connect to your PC using the USB cable. The drivers should pick up the P780 and install the device.
- Next, power off the P780 and then connect it again using the USB. The PC should again pick up the P780 again and you will see it briefly appear as an unknown device in the Device Manager. However, no need to right click and update drivers as you have already installed them previously so just let it search automatically for the best driver to use and it will finish installing. Once done, disconnect the P780.
- Run the flash tool and only connect your P780 after clicking the "Firmware->Upgrade" button. You will see a message in the status bar of the flash tool that says "searching" and then COM once the P780 has been found. If it stays on "searching" then it means the USB drivers haven't been installed properly and you need to redo.
- The whole process to flash takes about 7-8 minutes and a sqaure with a big green circle will appear on the Flash tool once done. Disconnect your P780 and power on as normal. The first boot takes about 5 minutes so don't panic, it will just show the usual Lenovo boot screen.
- Before rooting or doing anything else, go to System Settings -> All Settings -> About Phone -> System Update to update OTA from 123 to 124.
stock ROW or SLX? why?
bootloader
I just bought the Lenovo P780. I'm really happy with it so far. Just one issue, the bootloader is in Chinese. I'm not very good at reading Chinese. Does anybody know if there is a translation of the bootloader anywhere? I've been google diving for two days with no success. Even just a translation of the pinyin would be very helpful. A custom bootloader would be better. Thanks friends.

I managed to fix it by flashing - P780_S223_4GB_KK_Light - rooted with TWRP 2.7.1.1 from the russian forum by using SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1352.01.
Now I have to find a wholeNVRAM backup to restore my IMEIs

just came across this error !!
found easiest soln. for this just use format tab on spflashtool v5.1352.01.
select "auto format flash" and then select "format whole flash except bootloader" and hit "start"
after this 'S_FT_READBACK_FAIL (4009)" error goes away and you can get back on using flashtool normally
Thank you

[Q] Stuck !! Boot Loop !! Tool DL image fail !!

I forgot to check the DA DL cheksum option while trying to flash a custom recovery. Now I am stuck with a boot loop having error message "Tool DL image fail". I have tried flashing the whole rom s226 but failed as I already updated to s227. Please help me out!!!
Hi, I noticed that the SP Flash tool version is very sensitive for flashing without errors.
I don't remember the exact version I used unfortunately, but it was the one from http://www.needrom.com/download/4-4-2-row-for-china-baseband-p780/ (you need to register and log in to view the download links, including the Flash tool).
You have to use version 3.X of the SP Tool (not 5.X), and with me, had same issue, but another minor minor version of the SP tool made all the difference. (I used 3.X.Y.Z and it was supposed to be 3.X.Y.A, where the letters are the numbers I forgot ).
I flashed 226 using SP Tools, with a version I still had on my PC. Got the "Tool DL image fail", even if I checked the DL checksum option.
Then flashed 226 with SP tool version of link, with checked the DL checksum option, and it worked.
Since I used the 226 version of the link, (ROW for CN models), it was rooted, and I then just upgraded to 227 through zip installation in recovery, and installed also the superuser.zip straight away to avoid loosing root. Worked out just fine.
Read the instructions on that link carefully, to make sure you have the correct model (ROW vs. CN) and manufacturing date (2013 vs. 2014) procedure.

Stock recovery should be included in the stock rom package unless you mean custom recovery.

So there is an update I was able to successfully Flash a firmware from same board which was used by HCL me connect 3G 2.0.
I searched this for 3 days and found that Digma idnd 7 tab used the same board , so I hunted for Digma firmware and luckily got them, the file link contains both ota and Flash file via MP tool.
I tried ota update but I got the same error.
So I used MP flash tool v5.1352.01
Download adb drivers of HCL me tablet.
Extract the zip, then edit the scatter file name to "MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc".
Now open SP flash tool and choose the scatter.
Click on download and then plug the tab in using the USB.
Then I got some PMT file needs to be updated error which was fixed by the next step.
Stop the download, pull the device out, then click Format options in the 2nd tab and then "Format except Bootloader".
Plug the device in.
once the format is done, plug out again, click download(make sure scatter is selected).
Plug in the device.
It will start flashing.
File links :
HCL USB drivers : androidmtkDOTcom/download-hcl-usb-driver
SP flash links : androidmtkDOTcom/smart-phone-flash-tool
Digma original firmware : Unable to post link so : use google and search supportdotdigma
ps: may be this helps digmaDOTru/catalog/item/1344
Also you will need to change the language to English after Booting up.
Click on the equalizer>> click on icon marked A[use some common sense that's what I did xD] then inside that tap on the very , top of the submenu, you will get the option to change to English.
Please let me know if if works for you. Or you need any thing.

Bricked k8 plus (3gb ram indian variant)

hi
so i have a Lenovo K8 plus 3 GB ram variant. Let me explain what happened first.
I unlocked my device's bootloader to flash the patched boot image for magisk root, then this orange state sign started showing up eerytime i booted up. then when the latest update rolled out in march, i decided to relock the bootloader and then update my device. did it and then a red state sign showing up accompanied by bootloop (it said something like rollback kernel too). so I formatted the whole thing via sp flash tool and downloaded the stock rom.
now when i try to flash it, preloader flashes FINE, recovery flashes FINE, but when it comes to md1img it shows this error: STATUS_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER (0xC0010007). I tried flashing all the files individually to find the cause of the problem and see exactly which particular flash file was causing the problem. results are as follows.
[STATUS_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER (0xC0010007) ]- this error was displayed while flashing these files - md1img, md1dsp, md1arm7, md3img.
[ STATUS_SEC_IMG_TOO_LARGE (0xC0020005)] - only popped up while flashing the oem image.
when I exclude these files from the queue, the rest files flash fine.
In short, I have a bricked phone which i am unable to flash via sp flash tool.
Thanks in advance

How to Unbrick Lenovo K8 Plus 4GB
Hi All
I tried many stock roms and many versions of SP flash tool but none helped me to unbrick my lenovo k8 plus (4gb ram).
I was trying to downgrade it to Naugat from Oreo but it shows same error every time.
Error is (SP Flash tool version latest 5.18)
" Error_Status_Sec_Insufficient_Buffer( 0xC002004B)
[Hint]:
Verified boot is enabled.
Please download signed image (md1img-verified.img) or disable verified boot."
Plzzz help same problem
Enabled verified boot ...how to disabled
Same problem my lenovo k8plus
Enabled verified boot ...how to disabled
You need to use "Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant" instead of SPFlash tool to flash and you will be good to go. You can get the tool from the Lenovo official website.

Try with Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant. I too have bricked my phone... but I've successfully started my phone using this tool. you will get official signed ROM from here.
you can use LMSA tool to rescue,90% sucessfully ,don't use splashtool beacause it's many error if you choose wrong version
Had the same problem. Can confirm Lenovo's tool sucessfully recovers ohone from bricked state. A lifesaver!
Downloaded from https://lenovomobilesupport.lenovo.com/br/pt/downloads/ds101291-rescue-and-smart-assistant-lmsa
then updated to version 5.9.2.4 from inside the app itself
