Htc One M8 AT&T stuck in airplane mode - AT&T HTC One (M8)

My HTC M8 runs Android 5.0.2, Software number 4.28.502.2 and it is stuck in airplane mode. In settings the airplane mode is "greyed out". I did a hard reset,
spent 1 hour with HTC technician on phone and no one could help. Only solution seems to send it to HTC for reflashing. Any ideas out there on how to solve it ?
Would appreciate any help, thanks.

Run the latest ruu for your phone. But backup everything because that will wipe your phone clean. Best results is using Windows 7 You can find the ruu here http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news

Is the phone "stock" or has it ever been modded (unlocked bootloader, root, custom ROM, etc)?

Than I agree with the previous recommendation, RUU to stock is your best bet.
Backup your data first, as also mentioned, RUU will wipe the phone.

See the link in Post #2 above. The RUU download is at the bottom of the linked HTC webpage; and the instructions are near the bottom under "Manual system update instructions".
PC is required, and Win7 are USB 2.0 are suggested.
Its not really "tinkering" but rather an official HTC update/recovery program, that is pretty self-explanatory and intended for use by folks without much specialized knowledge.
If you want to backup any personal data on the phone before running the RUU, the methods would depend on what you want to save; and your preferred storage method (SD card, computer, cloud).

So, I started the process, sync manager does not recognize the phone, so had to do it the other way with the fastboot and that worked, but the upgrading of ROM is stuck at 14%, and the version I am installingis the same as the one I had installed.

RUU just gets stuck sometimes, its not uncommon based on reports here.
Disconnect the phone (or otherwise end the process) and start over. It says you're not supposed to do that. But there isn't anything else you can do.

That is normal and intended. In this case, its not an actual "upgrade". But rather a recovery, re-writing all partitions back to stock; which will hopefully fix your "stuck in airplane mode" issue.

Well, I re-did it and this time it did all correctly but the phone is still stuck in airplane mode. I am starting to believe that it is a hardware problem. I bought the phone new on Ebay from an online retailer
in November and HTC will not repair it because the seller is not an approved HTC retailer. So now I am stuck with a useless $300 piece of equipment and of course I will never buy an HTC again. If you look at the blogs
there are literally thousands of people saying that the after service from HTC is the worst in the industry. I have written a letter to HTC in Taiwan with copy to HTC USA in Oregon explaining everything and how disappointed I am at the way they do business.
Well all you XDA guys out there, many thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. PATRICK

Sync manager should recognize the phone. Hook your phone up to your PC and wait for sync to see the phone. it should automatically run the OTA updates for you. (some models will allow updates from HTC Sync) You are on older software. Have you tried a more recent RUU to see if it goes through? running a repair with same version will not let you know if the phone fully took the repair, but with a newer RUU, you will see in settings - about phone the software upgrade so you know the RUU took.

AT&T version will only update over the AT&T network.
Also, no further OTA updates are available for the AT&T version at this time.
AT&T is an oddball version, so you not knowing these things is understandable.

4.28.502 is the current and latest software and RUU for the AT&T version. They haven't rolled out MM for AT&T version yet.
I agree its worth a try to RUU to MM, when its available. But I'm not optimistic it will change anything.

I tend to agree that its a hardware issue, since RUU back to full stock did not fix it.
Have you tried another SIM?
So the phone has been working since November, and just recently "stuck" in airplane mode? Any other changes to the phone around that same time that may be related?

Guys, again thanks for all the help postings. My only chance is to update to MM when available with AT&T, but I doubt whether it will work. Like I said before, more and more
I am convinced that something inside the phone is simply broken. It could be a defective circuit board. What puzzles me though is that worldwide there are thousands of HTC owners complaining about the same thing, none has managed successfully to repair one and the lucky ones simply got a replacement. What bugs me most is the horrible service at HTC, minimal efforts to help you, borderline rude. Years ago I had a similar problem with a Nokia, the same day they overnighted me a replacement phone to help me until my broken one could be sorted out. Now, that was service.

Well, to be honest, you bought a phone from a third party. Phones have a 1 year warranty through HTC. I know from personal experience, the first boot an HTC does in it's life (not a factory reset or RUU will do this) it provisions itself and tells HTC the time stamp it was turned on to activate the warranty.
Now, you bought it from a third party retailer. This phone is obviously over a year old. Maybe the phone has been on for over that year marker? Quite understandable when you think about it. I got a DNA off a friend and when I had issues with it, I asked HTC if they had a way to see if I could just warranty the phone. They told me the exact time down to the second the phone was set up for the first time. It was out of warranty, sadly and they couldn't do anything.
Also, do you know if the previous owner unlocked the bootloader? The phone's serial gets sent to HTC. Maybe they knew the warranty was void. (There is a way to "hide" the fact it wasn't unlocked, but HTC still knows)
Did your Nokia ever get any modifications like that to void the warranty?

You make a valid point but we the consumers buy from a "reputable" online retailer a brand-new-in-box phone and we get it and it is originally packed and sealed in November 2015 and we feel that the warranty starts right then. Has the "reputable" seller tinkered with it ? Maybe, how is the layman to know.
But, let me tell you that they checked the IMEI and spent 1 hour on the phone trying to help me, to no avail. The phone cost me $300, they could have offered to repair it against cash and if the price had been reasonable I would have gone along. But no, our specialists cannot fix, you should send it in but you cannot send it in because the warranty is out.
After all, it still is a premium product at a premium price, the only thing not premium is HTC itself.

I know from experience HTC will fix any of their phones for a price. I openly admitted to using an exploit to s-off my DNA and they quoted me the screen replacement and the new main board as mine was s-off they would need to replace that as well. It was pretty steep due to pretty much needing everything but the battery and shell.
Also, I admitted in the call that I got it second hand from someone else which is worse than a third party seller. The quote was $275 at the time.

Well, I paid $300 for mine and the way I see it they would not repair it but replace it a probable cost of at least $300.
In this transaction I was always the loser.

Their rule is phone is under warranty 17 month after production date, that's in case when you or they can't prove when the phone was bought . Call again and tell them that you got it from att , they might ask for proof of when was purchased , tell them you will try to get proof then call again and talk to somebody else and pray that they don't ask for proof. that's how I did it and was covered under warranty. I think its about who you talk to on the phone. Never claim that you are second owner, just say you are the original owner. Good luck.

The moment they see the IMEI number they know they will not cover it. In a last desperate attempt to get consumer justice, I wrote a letter to HTC Headquarters in Taiwan asking for their stand in this matter.
I also posted some blog links which show that this problem seems systematic on a large number of HTC's worldwide. If this fails all that is left to do is use the "crippled" phone as an Ipod.

Stuck Airplane Mode
Dear Support Team,
Am from Kenya and I have a HTC one M8 with the exact problem explained in this forum. Stuck Airplane mode and it it greyed out and I have lost network in the process.
Mu phone is currently running on Adroid Version 6.0; HTC Sense Version 7.0 and Software number 6.14.707.1.
How do I reset the stuck airplane mode ?

Panic much? There's actually a thread here on xda that links a flash tool from HTC to remove root/etc. I'll see if I can find it, but you should search as well.
You'll find how to return to stock if you search these forums...
It will be easier to help you if you would explain exactly what you did up until you lost the ability to use your touchscreen.

Easy. Boot into fastboot, then flash the shipping software from winxp. Have the HTC sync drivers installed, but htc sync stopped. It works.

I have an HTC Aria (well, wifey does) whose screen randomly quits working. I think it may have to do with the battery, as troubleshooting suggests that possibility, and a totally full charge seems to help (where-as it may not work at 80%). Anyway, doing what I can to mitigate it while I get a replacement unit. Although it is under manufacturer warranty, I'm scared to send it in to them, as you get charged so much if they find it to have violated warranty in any way (e.g. water damage or something). Almost cheaper just to buy a used one on eBay.
Send me your email and I can send you the stock 2.1 recover that breaks the root. Its what I used to return my first aria. Just make sure to backup all your data on your computer. Change the SD card also or back it up on your computer and delete everything on it if your sending it to HTC. I must warn though your replacement might contain the new hboot which their is no root for as of know.
P.S. my touchscreen failed because of the phones high temperatures mainly in the 105-110° F.
Signatures are fancy.

WARNING T-Mobile NOT helpful! BEWARE OF UPDATE!

To get to the point, people DON'T UPDATE YOUR VIBRANTS and T-MOBILE HANDLES THE ISSUE HORRIBLY! Obviously this is not a universal problem, but if you do happen to be one of the lucky ones that bricks their phone with the update there is no saving it (at least with the help of T-mobile).
I just got off of the phone with tech support and they were less than helpful. After the regular punching in numbers, talking to two different people, and trying to re-boots that everyone with half a brain have tried, they informed me that they would replace the phone but I had to PAY for shipping. While I realize this is a normal policy when it comes to random malfunctions, which may or may not have been the users fault, this is absolutely ridiculous when the problem is 100% their fault. Seriously, T-mobile ships a top of the line phone that has some major flaws and inactivated software (media hub), then breaks the phone with it's official update, and somehow this is MY responsibility to pay to get fixed? The rep even asked if I at this point wanted to add insurance so next time I wouldn't have to pay for shipping and if I wanted to pay extra for expedited shipping! They were trying to make an add-on sale while fixing an issue THEY caused!
That's not even the end of it, because I was so irritated they sent me to a "loyalty specialist" (who sounded like a used car salesman). He rambled on about how he would waive the shipping fee (he made it sound like he just saved my first born child). I told him I appreciated that but it didn't fix the fact that T-Mobile was not handling the issue well. When a large number of phones break from an issue originating from the provider they should either 1) have re-furbished phones (or even set aside new phones if necessary) to replace these broken phones as they come up or 2) offer free over night shipping of the replacement phone. He told me that these options were too expensive for T-Mobile, and that if I like I could sign up for either of their two insurance plans, as they would allow me to do an in-store replacement (he later noted that one of them was only available within the first 14 days of owning the phone...). I couldn't believe they were trying to another add-on sale! The best part being, I later called around to all my local T-Mobile owned stores and none of them have the Vibrant available for in-store replacement (and never have).
So the Cliff-Notes of my rant:
1) DON'T UPDATE YOUR VIBRANT
2) If you did brick your phone, make sure to complain and they should refund the ridiculous shipping charge
3) If you don't own a Vibrant and are thinking about it consider the following (Don't let it stop you, just consider it):
- Still on 2.1, when Nexus One has been on 2.2 for months (and the Galaxy S 2.2 official ROM has been leaked so it does exist in some form.) => Meaning updates are super scarce and extremely late.
- T-Mobile is selling a good phone with many flaws, and their first attempt to fix it bricked many phones (do a google search I am not the only one).
- While it may be better than other companies, T-Mobiles customer service is FAR from flawless
P.S. My phone was completely stock (so please don't mention how I did this with a lag fix, etc.). I waited at least 15 mins before I pulled the battery, before which I had noted the T-Mobile sound starting without the animation (seems like a timing issue or something). And finally, I realize this is a duplicate post to many others but I want people to find this info (not be at the bottom of a really long thread) to get the word out how T-Mobile deals with their errors.
I hate when people mess with their phones then get angry at a company for "breaking" their phone. Im running stock rom with root and also got bricked, but, I manned up and knew I was in the wrong and accepted what happened. I didn't put the blame on TMo, because completely untouched vibrants that I was aware of had no issues with this OTA. If you added functionality to it after the fact that it wasn't originally on there before when you initially purchased it; then its YOUR fault that it bricked, NOT T-mobiles. Take some responsibility and stop crying.
Had the same problem but this is a pretty fix using Odin.
If you install an update from an OTA T-Mobile should be held responsible
I don't know about you guys but when you have been a customer for 10+ years, T-Mobile will pretty much suck your balls.
Either way, if you guys rooted it, then that takes the fault from T-Mobile to you. You changed the phone. The update was designed for a pristine un-edited Samsung Vibrant, if you changed anything in the system by rooting or flashing it is your fault for changing the equation. T-Mobile is NOT at fault for your actions.
Yeah why warranty the phone when you can just ODIN and fix it yourself? Do a xda search. If you're gonna use xda to complain at least use it to solve your own problems as well. Unless your phone is hardware locked it is 100 % fixable.

Did you not read that part?
I bricked two stock Vibrants with the update. The second one failed during Mini-Kies update and was hardware locked.
It is a known issue according to the Tech guy that I spoke to while getting my replacement.
First phone wouldn't power on after failure, second phone was hardware locked so un-fixable.
No, no.
This happened to me, I had a rooted phone I had uninstalled the inflight internet, etc on it and hadn't overclocked or anything like that. Phone kills itself. I went to the tmo store and they only make you pay for shipping if you take the overnight option.
PROTIP - DON'T ASK FOR EXTRA SPEEDY SHIPPING AND THEY'LL PAY FOR IT.

Word. That's one of the first things I did when I got the phone and was playing with the features. Switched it from phone storage to memory card.

Here is the business side
If I am T mobile every time some person has a problem and I offered free shipping, the Every moron would be shipping the device back for Any problem. Way way costly, so that is not going to happen. If you Really believe the phone is factory defective then, pay the shipping and move on. If you messed with it at all then the burden to resolve is yours and be honest about that. Remember the reason people are in here is to customize the phone and improve it. Like the XDA mantra sez.......... It is not just the result... but the journey....

There is a hardware lock fix now, you really should flash that before you do anything else. Yeah, you run the risk of bricking with the hardware unlock, but it's probably a safer bet than flashing away.

If you Odin it with the JI6 update, you might still be able to get a working system out of it. Worth a shot to see if you can get it without having to flash to stock first (which will wipe).
With all the time you spent with tech support, you could have found the thread that delineates how to fix your phone and update through odin. Its very easy and, frankly why be on a developers forum when you are not willing to tinker around a bit.

As long as the phone still powers on you can still use ADB Pull and save the data from the /sdcard folder. This update isn't a totally bricking the phone (at least it didn't mine) just making the display and inputs not work. To quote Billy Crystal: "He's only MOSTLY dead"
Odin was really simple to reflash the stock ROM and then I was able to do a nandroid restore from there.
The T-Mobile OTA update left my phone only booting to the vibrant screen, but it was a pretty simple fix with Odin. The hardest part was getting the proper drivers installed in windows!
Mini kies wouldnt even let me update,so I rooted and flashed bionix 1.8,works great.**** tmo.
Fyi to the people with hardware lock. I did the update on my gf's phone which was hardware locked and it failed. The phone would only boot to the vibrant screen. The good news is the ota update unlocks the hardware because her phone is able to get into recovery and download mode even thought the update failed. The point is don't worry if ota fail on you because you can just use odin to fix it since it unlocks the download mode.

Sprint Tech updated my phone to hboot 1.5 after I insisted he didn't

God I just need to vent......
My ear phone speaker was blown so I cleared everything, reverted to stock with hboot 1.4 and s-on and took it to the store and asked them to fix the ear piece for me.
While he was entering data he asked if everything else was ok with the phone. I said ya it was pretty sweet, then slipped and told him it sometimes it was kinda buggy and froze some but no worries really.
He looks at me and says oh I'll take a look at it for you. Of course noticing there was an update he told me about it. I told him I'm not one for updates... if it isn't broke don't fix it right?
He looks at me and says "I see, well we will see if this solves your problem and updates to 2.08"

Never revert to stock for hardware issues. I pay every month for insurance, they will fix the phone. Most say that my phone is awesome & can I root theirs

Download the PG86IMG RUU you will find in the development section
put it on sdcard
boot into bootloader
flash update
type 'oem writesecureflag 3' into a terminal to give s-on
just leave it stock unrooted with s-off.
then they can update all they want and you have a way back.
hell just flash the latest hboot so they have nothing to blame it on.

That sounds like a sprint rep, when I bought my 3d the guy was activating it on my account and then said oh there's an update available let me get that for you, even after I specifically told him DO NOT UPDATE THIS PHONE. He just did it anyway like an ass.

That sucks man, for the OP and you. When I got mine the update thing came up and I told the rep to not update it, he said "ok no problem, just know that updates sometimes fix things" but hit cancel right away anyway.
I guess it depends who you get you know? =\ If I was in your shoes though, I would have just asked for a new one right there since you were just buying it.
same thing happened to me. it sucks

This is so absolutely true. It makes me physically cringe when I see people clamoring to unroot their phones because they have to make a visit to Sprint.
They.Just.Don't.Care.
EVERY time I've gone in, I've gone in Rooted, and EVERY time, i've not only gotten exactly the same service I should expect, but usually, end up getting into a conversation with a rep about some new feature that Ive gotten, usually ending up providing dropbox links for apks, advice, etc.
<<bringing it since 2010>>
I am not sure if this will work every time, but when I was in, I left the SD Card in my pocket. When they returned it they mentioned that they were going to update for me but since there wasn't a card in it they couldn't. I have to take out back in. I think it needs to be replaced so hopefully I can get lucky again.

Yeah, if it's hardware related, what does rooting have to do with that? lol
I have never walked into a Sprint Store in my life with reverted phone software. They take it like it is or I raise hell.
Most, if not all software issues can be resolved by simple trial and error, searching the forums, or a bit of know-how.
Hardware issues are the ONLY reason why one from XDA should ever visit a Sprint Store for phone assistance.
In a case like this, it might be a good idea to temproot and remove the security certs...the phone will download the update, but the actual installation will fail
When I bought my 3d launch day, I told the rep not to even open the box, that I would set it up and if I had problems come back.
With my OG evo I had the speaker replaced twice, both times, fully rooted with cyanogenmod. Told him I tried on stock rom and speaker was still distorted. Both times, replaced with no problem.
As mentioned before, they don't care so long as they have common sense. If it is an obvious hardware issue don't sweat it.
<-- Sprint Lead Tech
Ok I'm a lead tech at an S&R location in TX. I root every phone I get and encourage my customers to do the same (if they seem capable). While Sprint discourages rooting phones, they eliminated the prior rule about not working on rooted devices a while ago. The only thing techs won't be able to assess is software, unless they're like me and love seeing rooted devices. That being said, any and all hardware issues are to be fixed as stated by Sprint Service and Repair policy. Best thing is to just be honest and let the tech know what's going on and why you don't want anything updated. I'll keep working on pushing phone unlocking from the inside, you guys keep making progress in development.
Let me know if you guys need anything.

[Q] Is my Amaze bricked ??

Ok guys, yes...I'm a noob...
I did a master reset on the phone and now I get nothing...
It won't turn on unless I plug it in to the charger.
When it does turn on, all I get is a few vibrations, and
the icons at the bottom light up.
I can get windows to see the two "drives" of the phone,
but they are empty (have 0 bytes if you right click and check properties. If you left click, it says please insert disc).
I've tried a new battery and my battery turns another phone on...
I've also tried two cables and two PCs.
It hasn't been rooted or messed with, the battery died and I went to charge
it and nothing...I left it on charge overnight and at least see a bit life.
Any ideas, or should I just send it on to HTC??
So that others have a better idea... can you get into hboot or fastboot?

he said he already tried a new charged battery, so it can't be that. I'm thinking his phone's OS might be gone so he should probably installed a RUU or something.

Can't see anything come up on screen...
no idea what mode it's in, hboot, fastboot or anything ??!?!!
Think it might be possible to install just a stock (Tmobile) RUU?? If so, how ?????

There isn't a way if your phone isn't detected or you can't get into hboot. Meaning you have no control over your phone to do anything.
Anyways, for htc warranty exchanges that is done with tmobile... they usually send you the phone first and then you send one back in return. Unless your policy is different. So i suggest you calling them immediately.
Update
I can go into control panel and "see" the phone listed in device manager under portable devices as "F" and "G". Click properties and they are found as HTC devices. Does this mean I can do anything to it? I just want my phone back working as fast as I can. Sending it in will take a while. I bought this phone for the camera. We have a 1 yr old and don't wanna miss the Christmas pics...

are you on tmobile? they usually send within 2 days, their distribution center is in texas or something. I usually get it next day.
You said your screen doesn't turn on or doesn't show anything. It's gonna be hard to determine what you're doing even if you can run ADB to put it in oem fastboot and to flash a RUU that way. But it sounds like your display might be a problem too then. It'll be quicker to do an exchange. If you call in today, they'll probably ship it on monday and you'll get it wednesday latest. unless you have tmobile insurance plan. it should be next day and you'll get it tuesday.
Thanks
Well that might work for me then...can't hurt to give it a try.
Thanks a bunch for letting me know !!!
No problem, I had my fair share dealing with tmobile exchanges lol.
If you purchased directly from tmobile it should be very easy to do an exchange because your warranty is verified.
If you bought it off craigslist/ebay. sometimes the previous users used a different carriers that makes the warranty no longer verified. HOWEVER many customer reps will still try to process the exchange (you can determine by their upbeat personalities lol).
If you run into someone who won't do it, just call again and talk to another rep. Most of the time they will push it through because it's still a newly released phone.
Have you already contacted T-Mobile support? You'll have to talk to them anyway before they agree to replace your phone.
The reason I am asking this is because there might be an unpublished backdoor way to restore your device if your device is not completely (hardware-wise) dead. For example, Dell Streak has a complete firmware image on its internal SD card and you needed to somehow trigger an IPL routine to restore the device to its original condition.
I haven't heard of anything similar on HTC devices yet, but hey, it's just a thought. And if there actually is a way, and you are the first one to post it here, you'll be a hero!

yeah we normally just flash a RUU, but you can't even see the screen, so we can't even be certain that we're in the correct modes to be flashing and stuff. because we require to ADB it to restart in fastboot, but we can't even see if its going to fastboot. or if it already is in fastboot to begin with, so we're not certain which commands to run with the screen being off. Well you can always try commands and it should only work in certain modes, but do you really want to do it blindly? I would rather just exchange the thing.
Not afraid to try....
Well, I can't use it as it is...exchange is a hassle even in 2-3 days. Can't do anything until tomorrow anyway. I was thinking today, I've heard they can port Android to iPhone...there's no fastboot there, is there ??? Soooooo, if it's turning on, I should be able to do something...I want my phone back !!!
Edit: I misunderstood the issue

Bootlooping after Lollipop update

Here's the background: rooted my Kyocera Brigadier last June with King Root. Installed Titanium Backup and used it to delete Verizon's bloatware from the system. I did not make backups of the programs I deleted. Phone has run great, except the last few months would not notify me when voice mail messages were left for me. In November started getting notices for updating system to Lollipop. I've been exiting out of the notice half a dozen times a day ever since. Finally, three nights ago decided to do the update. Charged battery to 100%, backed up programs and settings with Titanium backup, and tried to delete King Root. There was no option to uninstall the app in App Manager, so I disabled and re-started phone. Checked phone for root with Root Checker, found it was no longer rooted, and initiated the update. After an hour, phone would vibrate, display "Powered by Android" then the "Kyocera" splash screen, then go black, and go through the cycle all over again. I plugged the phone in to keep it charged, and let it run the cycle over night without trying to interrupt it in case the update was taking longer than expected. Next morning, same thing - vibrate, splash screens, black screen, repeat. So, I have found that I can get the phone into stock Recovery, and I have executed the "factory reset", and "clear cache" commands. Phone still does the bootloop routine. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to rescue my phone?
Same thing happened to me last night! So aggravating! I've been searching all day and found nothing for this phone. There's not much support since the bootloader is still locked down. Couldn't find a stock rom or anything otherwise we might be able to flash it through fastboot. I think we may just be screwed unless Verizon will replace it. Probably gonna try to get a replacement tomorrow. :crying:
A guy at the Verizon store fiddled with it yesterday for 1/2 an hour, mostly going into Recovery and doing the same things I already tried. They said, "sometimes these old phones aren't compatible with the new software", then offered to sell me a new phone. I asked, and they said that there is no service place to send the phone for repair, Verizon just treats these units as disposable. Break it and it's time for a new one, at your own cost, even if it's Verizon's update that broke it. I'll be checking with Verizon support to see if the guys in the store were mistaken about repairs, but I suspect they know what they are talking about. I may fiddle with the "Software Update Assistant" (I found on the Verizon website) later this evening, and see if it will work with the phone in Recovery.
Is there a way to permanently disable the OTA notification?

I'm not sure. You could check under Settings > System Updates to see if there's a disable option under there.

I would definitely talk to tech support, I chatted with a Verizon rep because I had to activate an older phone because of this problem and they said that would be the best option. I'm not totally confident in the knowledge of a lot of Verizon store employees. I think if this happens because of their update then it should be their responsibility to replace or repair the phone free of charge and if we complain loud and long enough then we might get somewhere. As for the "Software Update Assistant" is that a downloadable program? I checked on the Verizon website and I'm having a hard time locating it if it is. From what I read it looks like it's something that starts up when you plug the phone in but of course it would have to be working already. Also, I don't think this phone has a download mode which would allow the computer to pick it up as a USB device. I know if you boot it into the bootloader it will show up as Android Bootloader Interface so maybe we can do something from there. I couldn't get mine to show up while in recovery mode. Maybe if someone can get a copy of the Verizon firmware update we can flash the update through ADB.
OlafTheOx
I found the upgrade assistant on my computer actually so no need for the link. If you need the program, PM me and I'll send it to you somehow. Maybe you can do something with it. I messed up my recovery mode so I can't boot into it to see if it will work but it's not doing anything in the bootloader. If you happen to have a copy of your recovery.img that would be amazing. If you can fix yours and then make a copy of the recovery.img that would be much appreciated. Let me know.
Update:
After some research, I discovered DMClient is the app that handles OTA updates on our phone. Froze it in Titanium Backup (Pro needed). Boom. No more annoying OTA notifications.

I have a TWRP-made backup of my recovery, if that would help? I made it by fastbooting (NOT FLASHING) the TWRP build found here:

PM me and I can give you a temporary dropbox link.
I need the stock rom or some sort of file to restore my Brigadier. Please PM me with links. And what program do I use to load the rom into this phone?
Well, if anyone is interested, my phone is up and running. I wound up sending it to the Kyocera repair center in Texas. They took about 3 weeks to make the repair and ship it back to me. They installed Lollipop (along with all the Verizon bloatware). It appears that they did the repair under warranty, which surprised me, since I bought the phone used last summer. No invoice to pay. Cost me $20 to insure and ship it by UPS. The info on how to send it in is at this address https://www.kyoceramobile.com/support/repairs/united-states/faq/ Be warned, they were not very communicative about it. I got one email to acknowledge receipt of the phone, then it just showed up one day by FedEx. No paperwork in the box, just the phone. Not complaining, mind you, just try not to get too anxious while waiting if you send your phone in.
What version of Lollipop do you have now? I'm curious if it is the last... I was about to send my broken phone to repair center last year but decided to fix it myself... Now it's fully working without their help. LP without bloatware and with root. Good choice...

Android version: 5.1.1
Software version: 2.906VZ
I've been getting prompts to update the firmware again. The prompts started 2 days after I got my phone up and running. Apparently, the repair center didn't have the latest version of Verizon's OS. The update prompts are for Software version: 2.955VZ according to Verizon's support website. Not sure if I'll try to root the phone any time soon, so I'm tempted to go ahead and do the update, hoping for the best since I haven't screwed with the system yet. I may try rooting with Kingroot again, if the unrooted experience turns out to be as aggravating as I expect it will be.
Anybody brave enough to try Flashfire to install the OTA (possibly) more safely?
