Since the update on Saturday I can't get more than 2 hours SOT,before the update (lollipop) I used to get 3-3.5 sometimes 4. Same exact apps, settings (Wi-Fi on when home off when not, mobile data on when not on Wi-Fi auto switch enabled,GPS on all the time with little GPS usage mainly google location services being used ,everything "optimized". I'm really lost here. If anyone can tell me their experiences before and after the update that would be great with setting changes if available. NOTE: I'M NOT ROOTED (PURE STOCK).
Anyone?

My suggestion would be to try this.
1. Root your device and S off.
2. Flash a custom Rom
3.profit.

Don't you have to pay to get s-off? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

@racingmatt1 yes you do. 25.00 for s off via sunshine. @Deathmeter let's look more into it. Have you s off?

You don't need s-off to flash custom rom or root.
Unlock bootloader, flash twrp recovery, flash custom rom, root (No need for s-off in all that)
And as @Deathmeter said, no improvement in battery life with custom rom or root

There is a new kernel in the sprint Android development section(I use it on badboyz ROM)... with a few tweaks from flars kernel app I use, battery life has improved for me.

As it says I rooted my phone, a samsung galaxy S3 through Sprint. I know I am not supposed to accept OTA updates, so whats the best way to keep up to date? Is there a sneaky thread somewhere? When I get the updates I assume I just flash them with odin and all will be good no interference with root access?
Thanks for the help.

Whenever updates are released, usually developers will incorporate them in their roms, and if you are just running stock, then usually someone will release the stock rom with latest update that will still keep you rooted.

I am just running rooted stock. Any good place to keep track of that info?
depends on update
it depends on the update as to whether you would need to get it or not.
the 2 updates so far sprint has put out have been ok,
several instructions are out there to help with install if rooted.
won't work if you have Clockworkmod as the recovery though, unless incorperated into the ROM

I have clockworkmod as recovery, root instructions required it. :\
Thing I really want is an update to get the brightness widget in the notificaiton bar. The current version I have does not have that update.

I have not worked with a custom rom before, though I am not opposed to doing so. What should I know about customer roms? I heard that CM9 was out for the S3 what do think of that as a custom mod.
its out as a nightly, basically a beta
i hear it gets rid of all the samsung goodies

Hmm ya it looks like a good choice. I think I may go with it, but cyanogenmod has a nightly too which I have heard is supposed to be a great rom.
So my phone downloaded the update at&t released today, but it just boots into twrp recovery... is there a way i can locate this update and install it manually ? What's the trick to updating a rooted phone? I am on stock.
No it isn't possible

So i can't install a newer version of the stock software if i am rooted? can i like unroot and then do it ? heh
To install an ota you need to be completely stock. Not rooted, no bloatware removed and be using stock recovery.

Wait just a second
Update, At&t released a update., what update
Anxiously runs to phone, checks both AT&T and HTC software updates, nuthin, nada, zilch, goes back to coffee, now depressed and out of sorts, gonna call in sick
Hmmm, if your rooted, and running twrp, your technically not stock.
I just posted an easy unroot zip I made for a friend who has the same issue as you.
Going with this thread, how can you get the OTA again?
The main reason i want the update so i can use Spigen glass tr protector.... ;/ The stock is very clean and runs great.. there has to be a way to update it somehow... Since my phone downloaded the update it means its stored somewhere?? can't i use recovery to install the update ? Now i understand that might break root prob but then re root ? just thinking outloud here. What is the best rom tha is a smooth as stock or even smoother with better battery life? trick or revolution ? those seem to be the popular ones

if you're stock rooted and want what the update gives you, just install this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291908
you can flash right over your stock rom and not have to wipe or lose anything.

Im just curious as to what a update has to do with a screen protector
Fyi
You cant install the update without being 100% stock, theres a ruu posted in here thats the current firmware and recovery
The glass screen protectors didn't work well with older software because the capacitive button sensitivity was messed up. The latest att firmware fixed them
You can't install updates when rooted. End of story

I probably want to get all the OTA updates out of the way before unlocking and rooting right???

So if I flash this it should have everything that's included in the att OTA update? Is this supposed to be the new sense 5.0 and 4.2 android update, or is it just maintenance? Thanks.

Hi All,
I was curious what my best method to receiving the latest stock Rom on my phone would be, while, if possible, maintaining MDK as my phone's Bootloader.
All I'm really looking for is the MDK bootloader, Latest Stock Rom, and root.
I'm no longer really interested in keeping up with custom roms at this time, which has led me to consider unrooting the phone and taking the OTA updates, but haven't yet, as I feel I may regret it later.
Please advise,
Dan.

If you are rooted and have recovery just flash the mk2 full stock deodex...its 100% stock mk2(newest ota) minus the locked down bootloader...it gives you the full experience without losing ability to flash aosp roms...don't forget to backup current rom beforehand... Good luck!

I have the note edge, still on kit Kat, it's rooted. But it's got a stock rom. I was thinking about upgrading to lollipop, but read I'd have to unroot kitkat, install the official lollipop, then root lollipop?
Are there step by step instructions, or maybe even an easier way out there?
I miss the days when we could just flash radio updates and any rom we wanted without doing anything else. Ha.

OK2 isn't rooted yet, so flash the OG1 stock rom for lollipop and root that one. Don't take the OTA though cause you'll lose root.

I'm sure I do somewhere. But it isn't a fresh install. It has my hacks and my own settings and my everything including any personal info they it stores? I. E. Google wallet info and lte encryption keys.
Thats no problem if you're still on KitKat make a new backup excluding the data and cache partitions, hopefully thas not too much for a friendly request lol
For the last couple of days i've tried to find a way to unlock my phones bootloader, but i havent found any answers yet. Its a shame because there are tons of beautiful custom roms out there that offer a wide variety of features and a huge performance boost. So, does any of you have a way to install a custom recovery?

Not possible. Locked bootloader. I doubt if it will get unlocked. But, search around for safestrap or flash fire. These will allow you to flash some custom ROMs.

you can kinda have safestrap on lollipop but it's kludgy. the safestrap splash screen shows up 5-6 times before the OS boots up
Try rooting with king root. There's instructions on how to remove it afterward, then try albe95's galaxy s6 rom on her. It's the only one I've been able to get connected to verizon's network. It runs way better than stock rom once you turn off the edge feature.
I'm rooted on 5.0.1 with Lollipop and my performance and battery are phenomenal. I changed CPU to 810MHz on all cores and changed governor to Interactive with a Deadline scheduler. It's smooth, hardly lags and the battery lasts 24 hours (original battery). I used KingRoot APK, and I have not had any issues at all. The only thing I really want that I can't have is xPosed.

I don't remember doing that, but it wouldn't hurt. Also, it seems not all OF1's are created equal. If you get Stang5litre booted, seems some can't, then you stand a pretty good chance. You probably know that anything can happen though.
