Hi,
I plugged my charger in backwards and I fried my battery last year. There are names, numbers and texts I need to see for legal reasons. Can anyone help me power up the phone, I don't care if I can't use again. I'm just looking to download to my computer through the USB link, but I need the circuits to fire up. Thanks.
PS. I have an adjustable power supply, both Voltage and Amperage.

I took it apart and tried applying 3.8 volts to the disconnected battery terminals. Nothing, not even an amp draw.

You can try with a battery from a different phone. Just make sure to connect the third wire(sense pin) so the phone knows there is something it the battery. It should work this way.
Thanks, I bought a ten dollar replacement battery. I will wait until it arrives. I am ever going to be upset if it's all I needed last year., but then I likely couldn't have waited a month until it arrived here. By the way, I didn't realize that there was a "sense" pin. That must be the metal tab holding the battery in.

as i tire of hunting for hours for a thread i post. here goes...
for some unknown reason my g4 8125 wont charge. it went dead on the charger and i was thinking that my wall charger had freaked out. well after about a day of sitting i hit the power button and the lights came on! well it was a built up charge so i know the phone didn't brick. i put it on the usb cable to see if the red light would come on and no such luck.
any ideas? r they known for suddenly ignoring the charger??? any help is great!
oh and i haven't modded anything but the carrier unlock.
*i found on ebay a few that were selling with the charger port "broken" ... this a common thing? it able to be fixed if so?

I had a similar issue a few months back. It happens that the wizard needs a minimum charge on the battery in order to being able to charge. It´s like the charging connection is made by internal software.
Probably you drained too much the battery to a point that it no longer can sustain the cellphone on enough time so it recognizes the charger and it starts charging.
The workaround would be to jumpstart the battery.
There´s a post on thiss matter but in order to give you a straigth answer, you will need to find a low voltage source (better of 5volts or less, DC). Many users have used the usb port on their pcs, cutting out a cable.
Then you will need to remove the battery from the phone, and find the (+) and (-) sing. Probably you will find that there are more than 2 power connections on the battery. I assumed that the + and + were the most outer ones and it worked for me.
Then you would need to "connect" the power source cables to the battery. Beware of the polarity. keep the cables there for about 5-8 minutes so the battery would have a charge on it.
I personally used as a power source, a small 4 AA NiM rechargeable battery pack that gave me 1.2 volts x 4, meaning 4.8 volts. So even when the battery is only 3.7volts, a 5 volts power supply as the USB port, would do the trick. Just be carefull not to overcharge the battery. If you feel that the battery is getting hot, then probably something went wrong and you must stop and recheck the polarity. After 5 minutes the battery shouldn´t heat up too much on a 5volts surge.
To use the USB you just need to cut out an old usb cable that you don´t use (from an old mouse, or anything similar. Find the black and the red cables (the green and white are data cables, so don´t mess with those). and use them to connect to the battery with your fingers.
Tell us how it went.
thanks as always you guys are like the boy scouts...always prepared!
at least i think that's their motto...isn't it? anyway thanks a million
The title says it all. The device refuses to charge or detect my charger. I am not sure what to do or if anything can even be done.
What would the "next step" be?
Is the liight on the charger on?
Is there 12V on the charge plug?
If yes, send it back.
The answer to both of those is yes.
My next question is how much would it cost to get it fixed by Viewsonic (a rough estimate)? I only ask because my warranty is shot due to me flashing Vegan 5b.
I called viewsonic and as it turns out they cannot fix devices that have been flashed.
So, unfortunately I have a brick that will not charge.
If you have any charge left, I would nvflash it and get it back the original firmware and kernel. It's really not difficult to do. Then I'd send it in for warranty repair.
That's a good idea, but my device has enough charge to turn on for only one minute.
Not enough time to reflash the original firmware and kernel. I was unaware that it wouldn't charge until it refused to light up.
Will it run with the plug in?
I tried this and it seems to work. Plug the power supply into the Gtab with it powered off. Hit the right side of the tablet on the edge slightly. This worked for me to get the red light on(I hit mine about three times and the red light came on). Mine only charges while plugged in but I still get a full charge even thought the battery indicator shows 0%. I have used mine all day today without a plug and it sits at 0%
Your idea intrigues me... you tapped it, eh? Well it's worth a good shot, I'm about ready to try incantations!
Okay, so the light on the charger is on. But is it really charging. It could not be charging or have a bad cable or......
You need to find a way to make sure the correct voltage is coming out of the charger plug (the specs are on your
power adapter/charger).
And if you know the charger is actually charging....
I don't know much about the inside -- there are some posts about things like this
from along the way since November. But it might be worth your while to open the case and make sure it's not something as simple as a wire that has come loose.
Also, if it is the charger you can go on the web and Google for MPA-630 power
adapter (it also is used for those digital picture frames) and find a replacement.
Good luck. I wouldn't give up yet!!!

...I could lick the charger I suppose that would prove to me if the tail end is receiving power from the head.
I am not a man who gives up, but I do lose hope very quick.
You know, in my head I'm going over a list of things that I can do to inject this device with any amount of energy. Just enough to enable me to reflash the stock on...Buying a dock, replacing the battery with a spare fresh one, throwing the whole thing on top of some power lines...

heh, well I tapped the hell out of that thing... nope (In my heart I didn't think it would work)
I should also say that there is nothing loose, I shake it... and nothing is rattling.
With the DC plugged in, try gently and slowly wiggling the connector left, right, up and down and see if the RED light comes on during the wiggling. If it does then the pin on your DC IN Jack is loose due to failure in the soldering joint holding the DC Jack to the motherboard.
IF you know how to open the Gtablet, you can can resolder the connector. The DC IN Jack even in laptops eventually fail and need to be replaced and/or resoldered. For this reason, I purchased the dock as a backup method to charge the Gtablet.
China computer products are known to be sometimes undersoldered.
Try Googling "loose DC Jack laptop" for more info.
This assumes you power adapter is good.
Hope this helps.

I wiggled (very slowly) the connector in very direction possible. The red light still didn't come on and the jack felt a strong as ever.
...Maybe it IS a problem with the adapter itself? however, I still don't think so...
Buy a doc from i2steve here on xda. You will have a sweet new accessory and an alternate charging method. Worth it. At that point you can charge it, flash it and send it in for repair. Or if your lazy like me, just use these doc to charge it and call it good.

hi i recently loaded a new rom on my g tab after id finished it started up ok but plugged my charger in and behold it did not charge no charge light on, so did a few checks with my multimeter found no supple coming from the power charger.
just thought id reply to your enquiry. so im in the throws of buying a universal charger with the same power requirements. hope this helps. yorkygeorge.
Try going to an Office Depot or a Sears and see if they have a G on display. if so, plug yours in to its power adapter. At least then you can rule out your power supply.
^ nice. Really good idea
If you have a 12V adapter with Cigarette plug lying around the house with the right size plug on the end. Try plugging it into your car ( engine off). The voltage on the adapter is 12V.

I'll try to get my hands on a multimeter to double check that the problem isn't with the charger (I licked the darn thing and didn't get a shock either).
Hi there,
I noticed that every fortnight or so, my battery would stop charging at all. Does anyone know the reasons for this? For example, I always leave my phone charging at night when i go to sleep. Sometimes, when i wake up in the morning, i discover that the battery has not charged at all, and i am left with about 13% to last me throughout the day.
This is most often caused by the cable. The best option in such cases is to buy a new one. Don't worry, they are cheap, and many phones have the exact same cable, you may even have another one at home.
And if you don't remove the picture from your signature, a moderator will do it for you, you may even get banned.

Are you using the wall charger or is the cable plugged into a computer?
Most operating systems have power saving features that will turn off USB ports when not in use (for example, when your phone isn't pushing data).
If it's a wall charger, check for any buzzing while it's plugged in. This could indicate a defective charger. Though, like the cable, the charger itself isn't all that expensive, either.

A healthy charger should make a high-pitched squeal when you put your ear to it. If it's defective, it'll sound like a lower-pitched buzzing or a humming.
A quick way to rule out the battery and phone would be to try charging it with another USB device and see if it charges regularly.
Luckily, the batteries for the O1 are cheap and abundant, and the charger can be had from anywhere.
Hello,
I have a Nook Tablet, 16GB model, that I received during the 2011 holiday. This summer, about 4 months ago, it stopped turning on.
I have flashed it with CM7 Alpha from CelticWebSolutions, but that was at least a month before it stopped working. CM7 ran fine while it was working. There is no physical damage to the device. The Tablet does not even get warm when plugged in and the screen does not turn on. Windows does make a noise when the device is plugged in but nothing is recognized.
I am not sure what other information I can give. I would have posted this immediately to the forums if I was not so preoccupied this summer. All help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Not to be super obvious, but have you tried holding in the power for 20 seconds? Then plugging it into the wall charger and letting it sit all night?

Thank you Solar.Plexus,
I had tried charging overnight, and holding down power for 20 seconds. However, your post had me think of trying the stock nook cable - the one with the extra pins. I charged overnight and sure enough, it worked!
Now, when I try a microusb cable to charge, it still works. Why would a microusb cable still not charge the device before, but does now? What could the extra pins have possibly done?
Anyway it is working now. I am sorry if this post has polluted the forum. Please remove if necessary.

No sweat about polluting the forum -- this is the place for Q's and A's...
There's some really good information about the B&N cable located in this thread from the Accessories forum (look at post 17 in particular) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386602 that can probably answer your questions better than I can.

FWIW - The B&N USB cable has the extra pins because it provides a higher charge rate (more current) that the USB "standard" allows. In theory, a standard USB connection should charge the Nook, but it will take much longer. I'm wondering if the Nook was so discharged that the charge circuit wasn't being triggered by your USB connection. Was it your PC or an external charger? It's also possible that your USB connection voltage is too low. A fairly common problem. My Droid X is really picky about charge voltage.
From feeble memory, B&N charger = 1 Amp or 1000mA. USB = 500mA max.

Thanks, wellersl. This summer I had tried charging overnight with my regular microusb cable, which I believe came off of a wall charger. Before my Nook died, I had last charged it on the road using the same USB cable, but with a car to usb adapter. You have a good theory, though. I hope if anyone runs into the same problem, they will find these posts and try out the stock cable. I never like to use it because it is incompatible with other devices while using up a USB port.
I have been using my Nook most of the day. I updated CM7 and have done a factory reset - all on battery. After roughly 6 hours on battery it says I have 81% battery left. I am hoping the battery life has not been negatively effected by a full drain and four months of neglect.
It has the extended pins because B&N wants to make money and proprietary cables enable this. It has nothing to do with the amount of current that can be pushed.
For reference, my stock galaxy nexus charger pushes 5V at 1amp.

Allow me to correct myself. The B&N charger is rated 5V @ 1900mA (Mine is, anyway.).
Anyway, I'll have to respectfully agree and disagree. Certainly B&N is in it to make a buck. But there's more to it than that. And I'll be among the first to point out the FUD that's been posted all over the web *because * of that proprietary cable.
Standards are wonderful. There are so many from which to choose.
Okay... so in an attempt to make his razr work with the 3rd party charger/audio input cable he installed in his car, my genius roommate decides to see what would happen if he put 12 volts of power into his phone. I'm not exactly sure how he did it but I believe he basically touched the 12 volt wires from his car to his usb charge port on the phone and SURPRISE it shut off and will not turn back on. I'm thinking there is a chance (albeit VERY slim) that it could have just fried the battery.. He has ordered a new battery and it should be here in a couple days but I wanted to see if someone could just tell me definitively whether it was just the battery or if the whole phone is just royally effed. Thanks in advance for anyone's input.

If the battery is on the way, you will know in a couple of days anyway but, my money is that the phone is fried. The phone processor shares the power source with the battery, which is why you can usually run a phone with a bad battery as long as it is connected to a power source and the battery isnt decrepid enough it still completes the circuit. Car chargers have fuses built into them for a reason. The droid razr charges at half an amp. Depending on what circuit the wires were connected too, he could have put anywhere from 1.5 amps on up through the phone with no dropping resistor, no protection.
