AOSP by vova.vafin, it has 720p 120FPS camera.

And how long does it take to focus when taking a photo on AOSP/CM roms, compared to MIUI? Is there a significant difference?

Custom ROM with best camera?

Hi all,
Since December I'm using a Redmi Note 2 Prime. I like the phone, but not a fan of Miui.
I tried one of the CM roms on here a few months ago, which was a big improvement in user experience for me. Only the poor image quality and slow focus speed was a big let down.
Is there any non-miui rom out there that equals the stock miui camera's image quality and focus speed?
Try the AOSP from vova.vafin. It is based on AOSP and has the Mediatek Camera so you won't lose any photo quality..

The photo quality will be the same, BUT You lose PDAF focus..
@tonydeli7; thanks for the suggestion, I'll have a look at the thread.
@galakty; hmm.. that's a shame. I really love the near-instant focus, crucial to capture my 2- and 4-year-old.
You can try MultiRom or Xiaomi.eu or Smiui(based on xiaomi.eu with a few tweaks)
All customs ROMs based on MIUI Stable/Developer but without Chinese bloat...and the same quality camera as stock!

Hi Tony, already running xiaomi.eu from day 1, but do not enjoy using Miui one bit.
Still can't find anything in the Settings menu. (Rant on: Why the h×ll are half the SIM settings hidden away under 'Privacy' in 'Additional Settings'? Why are the most used settings hidden under 'Additional Settings' as well? Why is Wireless Display' hidden under 'More' in ' Network', instead of 'Display'? Why do the pull-down notifications and power toggles take up 2 full HD screens, and still need scrolling to reach all toggles? Why can't I delete never used toggles? Rant off)
The list goes on, but generally I need to swipe & tap twice as much to get things done compared to Aosp or Cm.
The CM roms haven't made any progress regarding camera, and probably won't for the forseable future. I had a go at sMiui yesterday, but despite trimming most unused Miui stuff it used an extra 250MB compared to regular Miui (might be an error on my side though). Will try vova.vafin's Aosp rom tonight. See how I like the camera and overall user experience/stability.
I can say I'm on the same boat because I prefer AOSP..but until Xiaomi releases the kernel source,we will not have one that works like on Nexus phones. There is a trick to run the original android settings but they don't fully work :/
The ROM from vova.vafin is AOSP based on CM I think but he uses libraries from the MIUI for the camera. And also he is not using the stock camera but a camera named Mediatek Camera that is specially made for phones/tablets running MTK processors. I used it for one day just to test, the battery was almost close to stock and I didn't notice any change in camera quality. You might give it a try
Yeah, running the rom since early this evening, just doing the final tweaks in gravity box. So far it's looking good.
i've tried many roms, camera quality almost the same at all roms

I agree. Rom with best camera quality, except of course miui, right now, is vova's.
The BEST camera for sure.
Is this possible to port it at bules rom? Or just extract it and make it work somewhere else????
miui 6.4.14 with better camera
Miui of course has the best camera. We talk for custom roms here....

camera quality

do camera quality in official stock rom differ from custom roms as i find good pictures capture from stock camera then on custom camera picture quality looks like washed out,i m bit confused whether to stay on custom rom or stock rom for camera as i take lot of pictures n i dont waana loose any detail of pictures,so tell me does custom rom camera makes difference in picture quality?
Yes a lot of difference , stick with Miui

Use a rom with newest OSS drivers. Better than miui. But only sufficient photos.

[Q] Time to think beyond stock?

Ive been using stock roms from the time i got my kenzo. Stock roms are great and so much feature rich. The recent launch of MiUi 10 has many interesting features and it has made me think if I should go back to MiUi just for the visual experience. I mean user experience is also important right. What do you guys feel?
Quite a subjective question. I only use miui like a week. I don't the visuals nor the amount of crapware it has.

Agree, few like MIUI and few like me hate it from the core of the heart. I kept my phone in drawer for 14 days until I was able to unlock the bootloader. I can't stand MIUI, I can still use buggy AOSP rom instead of stable MIUI.

Miui gives u good features. Good camera quality, audio experience, battery life too. It also has inbuilt call recorder. But it has stock gapps which u may not use all and consider it as unnecessary bloat.
Even if it has so many features people mostly prefer higher android version and go with custom roms. Coz it has better performance, security and new innovative features and much improved core structure.
As mentioned before, I've never seen anyone neutral about miui. This ROM is made and optimized for xiaomi devices and there are many features only miui can give compared to others. The convenience and the visual experience, the smoothness of miui kept me going back to it again and again - Epic ROM Miui9 was the best build I've tried and used for a 6-8 months. Now I use oreo RR, because this is now on a level to compete user experience with miui... I mean this was... before miui 10.
Now I really hope that both, android P and miui 10 will be ported to this device, and I can try both before decide. I love my oreo setup now, but this is getting boring after months of use...

Its the same thing with me.. Oreo setup with AEx rom is cool bt its getting boring now and all stock roms have more or less the same features. Miui 10 videos are too tempting to give a try wen its out.

How bad is stock OS?

I am getting a Poco F1 in the mail this week. I've been reading and seeing videos about how great the custom ROMS are like Lineage OS and Pixel Experience but they also "break" working features like WiFi hotspot and IR Face unlock (i think now working?) that i use. Also it's a lot of time and hassle and the only REAL benefit i'm reading is the "stock" experience and maybe the Camera works better on the customs ROMS? questions...
1) Is IR Face unlock working on any ROM? if so, what one?
2) how much better is the Camera on Lineage/Pixel vs. Stock Miui?
3) Am i missing anything else? what other benefits are there to installing a custom ROM?

1.) I think I found some ROM that supports IR Face unlock find it somewhere here https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/development But some ROM uses Google Face unlock feature (idk if it uses the source code of the IR face unlock by xiaomi)
2.) They said that google camera port for MIUI changed the game but camera on other roms, I don't know. I think they have same results as google camera port for MIUI
3.) Customization and less restrictions. (Official custom roms offers OTA updates, nightly updates, etc.) But you can stay stock, I think it is fine. Just flash some mods and tweaks and MIUI will be good and fast.
1) All roms I've tried use google face unlock feature. It works just as fast. The only downside to that is that these roms don't have an option to turn on the screen when you pick up the device or take it out of your pocket. You have to press the power button, unlike in MIUI where you can just pick up your phone, have it recognize your face and be unlocked in half a second.
2) Gcam is a MUST. It's a game changer. You can have it in MIUI or in any custom rom, so I don't think you necessarily have to switch from stock to custom. I think your device has to be rooted to use Gcam, though I'm not 100% sure about that.
3) While I was waiting for Xiaomi to let me unlock my phone, I tried to use the latest MIUI as my daily driver. I just couldn't stand not having a clean, aosp-based rom on my phone. You will lose features for sure, but I think it's worth it. MIUI has... to much stuff? I don't know how to put it.

the only drawback of using custom rom is battery backup which is not an issue if u are going to flash franco..... and there is slight fps drop in custom roms..... what i tested is i get 59.79 avg fps and in custom i get 59.12 which can be anything from server lagging or anything.... but u should flash custom rom..... if u gonna use poco...... the camera is pixel 3 camera i will suggest any day...... it can compete with op6t with gcam.... and in miui what i heard "they limit the camera performance to balance out with much higher premiums like mi 8"....... ir works in lineage....

MIUI GSI

Hey guys, I found this
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/gsi/MIUI/
Do you think this images could work on our device?
Why did you get a mi a3 if you wanted miui? Redmi note 7 or mi 9cc have miui.
And why would you actually want memeui on your device in the first place.
Better to stick with something with little bloat

Because of the features, I know some people who prefer MIUI over stock because of some of the features that it provide. There are people who likes the MIUI look than the stock look. I know people who really adore the so called "bloatware". Also MIUI used to provide better battery life than stock android back in the day, but I don't know how's that situation right now.
That should explain your "Why?" concern

And so ..... Will it work or not? Because your answer does not solve the question at all. I'm glad you're happy with Android stock, but there are other people who want to try MIUI (by the way, calling it MEMEUI wasn't funny the first time, so you can end calling it that way) so just let other people do whatever they want without judging them..
Stock android is really boring compared to miui. I always root so adverts are not a problem. Miui has matured into a very good rom, which useful features & battery life. I wanted to give android one a try, but so far not impressed. I am sure its the same way many others feel too. You can move from miui to aosp (treble) but cant move from Android One to Miui, which makes me admit that Miui phone is even a superior choice.
