How can I disconnect Hangout from my phone's sensor? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hi all.
Sometimes I like to browse the internet or do other things when I talk to my family oversea. Hangout is the best.
However, sometimes my hand can cover the phone's sensor , and it makes the screen off. And I hate it. I want to know if I can also disable the sensor.
Please if you don't know the answer, don't respond to this post.
Thank you.

There are apps to disable the proximity sensor.

mute button pressing by accident

Hi all
I have got a new sony x10 mini pro, and have an odd issue that seems a design floor.
When on a call my ear constantly presses the mute button and mutes people.
any one know of a way to remove the mute button on the interface or another app that can be used for in call functions.
any advice would be much apreiciated.
thank you
Mat
Place rthe phone closer to the ear so that the proximity sensor disables rthe screen

i have d same issue n keep muting calls
I have posted the same issue here
I use hands free but it is still easy to press with the side of your hand if you are holding the phone...
I notice on my phone the touch still works outside the screen border. and it sometimes goes on speaker or mute

Really need a fix for this. Mostly the mute button is the problem, but i have had the loudspeaker activated a few times too.

This is really annoying.

I really nead a solution for this.
I was also annoyed with this, so I made an app that launches it self after accepting the call to avoid the issue. The app can be found at my site on paxanima DOT net (can't post URLs yet, apparently)
I just made it, so not too much real life testing, but seems to do the trick.

Good work on that, thats a start.
But can someone just remove the goddamn mute button? UHHH!
It's too complicated for me. I think i installed like 4-5 apps but still couldnt get to the point where you can get the apk from the phone.
True, this is very annoying. SE has received plenty of complaints so I hope they're working on a solution. I am wondering if installing any of the new custom roms would sort out the issue for me since waiting for SE updates is a nightmare.
My problems started when I first updated to 2.1 where it happened in more than half of calls and got better with the last update and now happens only occasionally.
i never had that problem but i think that costum rom will help for these prob.
sory for bad english
Yeah, you have to be careful. Hold your phone from the back to avoid touching the front sides and slowly approach it to your head (the proximity sensor is at the top left of the phone). I'm pretty sure I look like a retard while doing so but hey, better than having the person on the other end saying "hello? is there anybody here? hello?".
Same here
This issue has also been annoying me from the beginning, and on every release of the SE standard ROMS. I don't understand why some people have the issue and others don't. Maybe it has something to do with the shape of one's ears??
No seriously, when i do some tests, like calling to my voicemail and then holding the phone in my hand, on some occasions the phone goes black after covering the proximity sensor with my finger, and sometimes the phone does not react at all when covering the sensor. So maybe some processes that are running prevent the proximity sensor from working correctly.
Would it be possible to adjust the semcphone.apk to have no mute button at all? I never use this option anyway.
Or is it only possible to change the shape and color of the icons/images.
As far as I know. When ever you made a call or answering call, the screen will turn off, right after you place the phone on your ear... So there's should be no pproblem answering or making call and suddenly pressed the mute button with own ear. Im using the same phone, and making almost 20 to 30 calls a day. And never even once encounter the problem as stated.

I get this problem once in awhile too. I have to bring the phone to my ear slowly.
can't we just replace the dailer APK with something from HTC or something?
I also hate the current contact list, theres no smart search.
Yes you can. But it has to be ported with some mod for it to work.

Hey i dont have this problem, but there is an alternative way to end the call by using the power button. Go to settings>Accessibility>Call answering/ending and you can tick that option
I will try ending the call with the power button.
Fixed, went to play store and download an app that checks your sensors(androsensor).
I find that my phone's case was blocking the proximity sensor, so with a knife is peeled until I removed the waist, and the sensors work nice again.

2 Problems With Phone Calls and Maps

Hi,
I am having 2 problems with this device. The first is some sort of proximity issue when I'm on the phone. While talking to someone, my face will activate things on the screen. I can see the phone screen turning off as I bring the phone to my ear, but the problem persists. I downloaded an app from the play store to check my proximity sensor, which appears to be working fine. Any advice on this?
Also, when using maps for navigation, the compass/arrow is oriented in some strange direction ie not straight on on the current road as I'm used to. Any advice?
Running RomAur for what it's worth.
Thanks!
Bump, anyone have similar experiences?
Second issue with the compass, try calibrating your compass. There's an app in the play store which acts as a compass but also has a calibration feature. It's called smart compass.
It's worth a try.

I used an app called "call screen lock". That solve the problem for me.

[Q] Proximity sensor fail

Hello!
I have a Sony Xperia Z2, and I was very satisfied with the device until I made an upgrade to the Android verion. Since then, the proximity sensor has issues, is working for a while, after is not working. When I restart the device, it's working again, but not always. Also, the gyroscope is having the same problems. Can all this be because of the software? I am running 23.0.1.A.3.9
I've always had issues with the touch pad waking up when I'm on a call. It hasn't annoyed me enough yet to look for a solution.

try repair via PC Companion
I've tried... The problem is still there. I've made also a factory reset, without results. Someone told me that a custom ROM will fix it, or maybe the update for Android L. It is obvious that is a software issue... Annoying!

Have you attached a screen protector recently? Try downloading the app "Proximity Sensor Finder" on the playstore. Does it count up continuously even if you're not holding your hand on top of the sensor anymore?
I never used any screen protector. I installed this app, Proximity sensor finder, now the sensor it's working (I mentioned that it has periods when it is ok and when it's not). What it seems to be unusual at this app it's that it gives only the minimum and maximum distance when I approach my hand to the sensor.
Also, after a restart, the sensor stopped working. Another restart, it's back on. Could be something from the software?

This is what Proximity Sensor Finder app says when the proximity sensor is not working.

Try disabling "double-tap to wake phone" and test again. Go to Services Test > Proximity Switch by entering *#*#7378423#*#* to test proximity.
Default is OFF, but when you cover the proximity sensor, it will display ON

For me, it just stays ON indefinitely, but sometimes it turns off. Weird
Hi bgl79.
Did you ever resolve your issue? I'm having the same problem.
Thanks,
JC
Hi guys.
I have the same problem with my phone. Did you find any solution ?

My screen turns off during call, and can't turn it on during call

I have this issue with my S3, that is infuriating! Whenever I get a call and answer it, my screen turns off after a short while and during the call I can't turn it back on. The power and home buttons do nothing, and the proximity sensor isn't working either, so I can't turn off a call.
Anyone know how I can fix this? I have Lollipop, CyanogenMod 12.1 custom ROM installed.
Thank you for your time.
This bug partially exists in stock roms too. It's just magnified in custom roms.
You should be able to set it to keep the screen on during calls. It's the only way i know of.
I fixed this problem by opening up the phone, unplugging the proximity sensor, and throwing it in the bin. (the trash to you Americans)
Screen stays on during calls now, but I've not had problems with accidentally ending calls with my face, so I'm happy.
You also lose your front camera because it's part of the same tiny PCB. But I've never used the front camera on a phone in my life. So my solution is perfect for me, but maybe not for you.
The other option is a software fix. There's an app, or a method that you can do yourself to disable the proximity sensor, but I had problems with it, so did it my way.
Edit: I forgot to mention that the reason my proximity sensor wasn't working was because whoever had this phone before me did a screen repair and had half severed the ribbon cable for the proximity sensor by accident. Not just because of the bug that sometimes exists.

Proximity sensor problem. Manually calibrating it solved the issue for me.

Go to that thread and follow instructions. The code for sensors might be different for s3, Google it.

Bah, that's the boring way to fix it.
(didn't work for me. maybe work for OP though)

I remember that I saw a MOD or xposed module to keep screen on during call.
It's better than throwing the sensor to the bin (trash ) .
